Getting the thread ready when all the Christmas puddings start making appearances...

honey he may have just squealed at the suddenness of it - how is he now? But trust your instinct - if you've any concerns then take him to a&e even if just for your own peace of mind.

Those of you with mother in law / mother baby hogging issues - it's similar here with my mum, who is great in every way but doesn't realise that advice on things like feeding, wrapping up baby and sleeping have changed since she brought up her children. Eg she took him for a couple of hours at 5am one morning when staying with us, to give us a bit more sleep, for which I remain eternally grateful but she didn't feed him for over 4 hours and we've told her many times that he has to be fed more frequently than that even if he is peacefully sleeping, because he's still so small. She also kept telling me he was cold because his hands were cold, but we've been told its chest temperature that matters and that their little hands are often cold because their thermostats aren't working properly yet but that we shouldn't judge temperature by hands and feet. She also keeps putting the nappies on really really loosely around his waist, ie so that the waistband isnt touching him to the extent that you can get about 4 hands in around the waistband and said "it's ok! It won't fall down!" But my worry was more that the poo and wee would go absolutely everywhere.

HoneyMumandSon · 22/12/2012 16:34

Do you think I need to take him to a and e seconds? I assumed I was being overly neurotic he's having a feed now and is a bit grouchy bit that's likely to be from being out all afternoon ;even though he was asleep most of it!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/12/2012 16:41

Honey, don't worry he'll be absolutely fine. When ds1 was about 4 weeks I fell while holding him and bounced his little head off the pavement as I hit the floor. He was fine then, but did scream for 10mins and I felt soooo guilty! He was also asleep in my car when I was crashed into (only going about 15mph) and stayed asleep throughout!

spotty have you borrowed my mil? Exactly the same problem I had last week, sympathies!

yuletopian99 · 22/12/2012 16:46

Hi guys, not had ours yet but reading another thread on here about Bounty reps in hospital - totally shocked as I had no idea this happened... Did any of you get repped while in post natal?

emilyeggs · 22/12/2012 16:50

What happened with them Yule?

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 16:53

I've seen them around but never been approached. The probably feel sorry for me as my babies' are always in SCBU Wink

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/12/2012 17:08

I've never even seen one and I've got 3 dcs. Maybe I'm unapproachable! Lol

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 17:25

Lots of feeding this afternoon hope it doesn't carry on all night!

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 22/12/2012 17:27

Wow sorry if I miss anything out, this thread has started to move as fast as the antenatal ones!

utopian I was approached but they weren't pushy and were quite nice.

I haven't looked into the private option Bella I may start googling.

Honey I find the crying thing really irritating as I'm a heartless bitch tough cookie and tend to stand up as fight rather than cry. I hate people who can dish it but can't take it! I'm sure Dash was just a little bit startled and will be fine

Secondsop · 22/12/2012 17:46

Yes honey as the others have said I'm sure he's just fine, and you know him best - I only mentioned a&e in case you were worried about it, not suggesting that you needed to take him there.

Re bounty reps we had one in hospital and she wasnt unpleasant or anything but i did find her very presence to be a bit much. she first of all asked whether we'd had our bounty bag and then wanted all out details to give us one but I didn't give my phone number or email. She also asked whether we wanted their photo package thing but we didn't. I didn't appreciate being sold to when I was still recovering from birth - it was no place for it. It should be medical care and friends/family only in the wards, in my view.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 22/12/2012 17:58

Hello! Sorry not managing to get on here long enough to read and respond at the moment (and lacking in the available brain space). Just wanted to ask a quick question about bleeding...I'm 15 days on from the birth now and still bleeding red blood but not a huge amount unless I try to go Christmas shopping and do too much. Is this normal?

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 18:06

Strawb it can last 6-8 weeks. I think what you describe is normal. If it gets heavier it's a sign you need to slow down Grin hope you're doing well!

StrawberrytallCAKE · 22/12/2012 18:15

Thanks spotty I have been reading All sorts of things that have made me worry about it still being red and you'd think I would know with this being number 2!?

We're good, just living the after effects of a 10lb baby being pushed through my bits, my hips seem to have fallen apart and I can't really walk properly. Phoebe is wonderful though and has regained her birth weight + a bit more. Hope you're doing well too...am still lurking when I can especially during night feeds!

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 18:23

Yes I can imagine that hurt quite a bit! I'm finding I'm enjoying it so much more this time round. I've recovered quicker, I'm worrying less and I'm just generally calmer and making the most of ds. That's not to say we don't have bad days/nights but I know they won't last forever Grin Eugh get me being all soppy, must be hormones Wink

EggNogMichelle · 22/12/2012 20:32

Been lurking as well, between feeding, house work and sleeping I'm struggling to find the time to shit let alone message :( we are feeding now, and for once not fannying around with latching. Nearly back to his birth weight, hopefully at weigh in next Friday we will be discharged.

Honey he was probably just surprised, car seats with stand a lot of force.

No bounty reps for me, but think that's very poor form to be promoting their business to very vulnerable women.

SeymoreInOz · 22/12/2012 20:47

Hello all! Just checking in, I've missed loads.

Strawberry that sounds about right, with my first I bled for 6 weeks. Ouch to pushing out a 10lb baby. I hope you're getting lots of rest.

Funny how many of us are having MIL issues! I wonder if I will be like that when my DSs have kids of their own, I hope not!

We are having a rough time with thrush. I've got it on both nipples (prob because they were so horribly cracked at the start) and feeding is very painful again. The thrush has passed straight through DS and given him the worst nappy rash I've ever seen, he's missing loads of skin. Sad It's not helped by the fact he is doing tiny poos every few minutes which really sting. He's beside himself and I'm changing him several times an hour. I'm admitting defeat today and making a GP appointment, on a Sunday which will cost $$$.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/12/2012 20:50

seymore do you have metanium over there? It's a miracle cream. You need the nappy rash yellow one not the new everyday barrier one though. I hope you and ds get better soon!

SeymoreInOz · 22/12/2012 20:50

I saw a bounty rep just after I had DD. I remember her asking about the photo package and thinking I've just been through a 3 day labour without sleep, bugger off! I wonder how many people go for those.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 20:51

Ouch Seymore your poor ds. How do you know if you have thrush?

I just got some bargains for dd in the next sale Grin

SeymoreInOz · 22/12/2012 20:54

stacey no we don't! It was a life saver with DD, my sister is coming to visit on 4th Jan and I've asked her to bring 3 tubes. There's nothing comparable here and all the nappy creams are heavily perfumed. Shock

SeymoreInOz · 22/12/2012 20:56

Spotty my nipples are really stinging all the time, even between feeds and I've got some deep breast pain.

Ooh Next sale, I might send my sister there too!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/12/2012 21:34

Ah at least your sis can bring you some. Roll on jan for you!

Ds has fed constantly for 2 hrs. I'm sure my boobs are empty but he's still going!

HoneyMumandSon · 22/12/2012 21:44

Is next sale on already? Dash is just fitting perfectly into their first size sleepsuits!

Thanks all for the reassurance about Dash - he seems fine.

I had bounty lady in the day after I had him but I kept repeating 'he's in scbu, that's all in thinking about right now'

Re: bleeding. I'm still bleeding a bit 8 weeks on. Dr doesn't seem worried and the fact that I started on minipill, bled lots, came off and started on combined pill prob hasn't helped. Bleeding never full stopped but slowed right down to pretty much nothing before trying minipill. Then got really heavy, stopped pill and kept getting brown blood, started combined pill and started getting some fresh blood and still se brown discharge but dr says to see what happens after having first pill break when should cleat out fully. Prob shouldn't have started adding pills into the mix so quickly

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 21:56

I had a VIP slot not sure when it starts properly Smile

Ds is wide awake Hmm

soandsosmum · 22/12/2012 22:16

Hi there

Sorry to check in so late. Dd2 was born two weeks ago in 3 hours time. She was born at home in a pool and was much easier than dd1 (after whom I had a third degree tear)

She caught a cold from her big sister last week and has had a nasty cough. I took her to the gp and then a&e on her recommendation. They were happy she was ok but she's not gained weight since day 5 so I'm hoping she's getting better and heavier!

Strawberry: I am having almost no bleed some days then loads on (more active) days. Can't wait to stop wearing pads!

Any one else still waiting for LO to regain birth weight?
