Getting the thread ready when all the Christmas puddings start making appearances...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Clarella, if it's just a mouthful, it's called posseting and is where their eyes are bigger than their tummies i think. R does it every so often, especially if he's put down. He really can't stand being on his back, even on someone. Roll on rolling over so he can go on his front!

I've got nearly 3oz expressed for dp to give is it wrong that i love being able to do that for them? Xmas Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 21/12/2012 16:56

I've put a photo up of DS if anyone wants a look... Grin

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/12/2012 17:09

Aw spotty he's cute! (so is the baby grow!)

I seem incapable of uploading photos :( or I'd show off how cute ds2 is lol!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 21/12/2012 17:19

Aww, bless! R in his Christmas hat is on mine Xmas Smile

itsMYNutella · 21/12/2012 17:55

Hello mummies :) just sneaking over to see how you are, chatty bunch you are I really can't keep up!
And I have a question; all the Drs are generally closed from now until about 2nd Jan, there are emergency numbers you can call of course. Since our bean is likely to put in an appearance between now and new year (FX it's sooner rather than later - I've had enough and am driving poor DP to his wits end I reckon :o ) and here (sorry, dont know how it works with babies in the UK) there is a 2nd check up that's supposed to happen on all new bubs between about 48 & 72 hours old is it worth staying in hospital/MLU? I'm not too keen on staying in too long but can see the sense in staying at least one night (DP and I have no real idea how babies work Xmas Confused ) and there might be a chance of a family room too...
What would you do?

itsMYNutella · 21/12/2012 17:55

Spotty very cute pic of DS!

Bellaboo123 · 21/12/2012 18:03

Nutella hello! I'd stay one night if I were you...even better if DP can stay too. You'll really appreciate it.

Secondsop · 21/12/2012 18:05

clarella well done on the excellent growth! We're breastfeeding and top ups (started formula only cos we had to to regulate a blood sugar problem, then moved to exclusively bf after 5 days, then reintroduced top-ups). The hv was definitely more worried than the doctor - I guess the doctor can look and see a child that is essentially well.

nutella I think I'd find it hard to know what to do in your situation until the baby is born and you see how you feel about things. I was in for 2 nights because the baby's blood sugar was low and had to be regulated (but in all honesty I was in no fit state to go home without staying overnight - after the birth my bp went so low for about 24 hours I couldn't even stand up without feeling incredibly dizzy). I was utterly desperate to go home after night 2 though, to start our family life.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/12/2012 18:22

nutella I would stay. It's only a couple of nights and you could ensure you get lots of help with breastfeeding etc. it would be especially good if you can get a family room Smile

itsMYNutella · 21/12/2012 18:33

Thanks ladies! I've packed bags so we can all stay (they're very good at providing nappies, baby clothes, maternity pads etc here so the bags aren't too huge) and I think it would be nice to have us all taken care of.

Really like to read about all the babies gaining weight and being measured. Well done everyone on the BF! Picking up lots of tips from you lot. :o

Clarella · 21/12/2012 18:43

I must admit nutella the help with bf can be invaluable - as well as lots of other things. we were in for 4 night's due to his weight and my c section (which I never thought would be this debilitating) and even got a how to bath baby lesson which, as dh has had to do so much as I just lie in bed feeding George, has been invaluable. but, I didn't like it much being in a ward with 4 other women who often seemed more concerned about their tab breaks Angry

it sounds like youre doing all the right things
seconds, keep up the good work :)

Clarella · 21/12/2012 19:21

btw I just wanted to add that this lo's mammoth weight gain is probably cos he had lost a lot of weight in utero as I went to 42 weeks and my placenta was small (though apparently surprisingly healthy according to .mw) - it really looked like he had had some fat and had lost it as had folds of baggy skin. I know that little weight gain or indeed loss can be very worrying for people and don't want to flaunt his weight too much!

it was horrible when they told me his weight -I was totally shocked and confused - and when they showed me him I was just so worried and puzzled and I didn't get skin to skin etc so had some bonding issues last week which are fading since we escaped hospital and I'm less wacked out from the section. I'm expecting weight gain to plateau soon.

on a much happier note the mw gave me the green light to get a prescription for lanosilwhatsit today thank the nipple lord!

Clarella · 21/12/2012 19:26

gorgeous pics btw on your profiles! will attempt to do too. will be told off as am supposed to 've napping now!

we get possets but have had 3 humungous pukes - 2 in bed with mummy all in her bra. :) however I think I know what happened with those incidents despite dhs fretting.

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 21/12/2012 20:56

nutella I would definitely stay at least a night. I stayed 2 and I felt utterly shell shocked. It's so nice to have the help with feeding, changing, bathing etc and not to have to make your own meals!

Including induction I was in almost 4 days, when I left the world felt like a big scary place!

I'm having a bit off a shocker with feeding at the minute, managing to get some food into the little mister but I'm having to express it due to his tongue tie. It's killing me as I'm having to top up with formula doubling the time each feed takes. DP is handling most of the feeds while I express but I feel like I'm missing out

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/12/2012 21:11

Oh willyule what have the hcp's said about the tongue tie? That sounds like hard work and very emotional for you!

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 21/12/2012 21:26

He's been referred but will take 6-8 weeks for an appt. that means that I'd have to keep expressing to keep up supply for that time. I just don't think that I can do it, especially when DP goes back to work after Christmas Xmas Sad

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/12/2012 21:51

6-8 weeks is ridiculous! Shock

Secondsop · 21/12/2012 22:37

Oh willyule that is tough especially having to express - it's such hard work isn't it. Are you pumping? I have a pump but personally often find it easier to just give a bit of a squeeze by hand.

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 21/12/2012 23:04

I'm pumping in a hospital grade medela double but I only have it until 27th and then I have to decide if I want to hire one for £45 a month. I'm getting about 35ml from left but a lot less from right but it's still only day 5. U thij it's so long as its Christmas.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/12/2012 00:50

I can't work out if Ethan fed at 11 and we went to sleep and have just fed again, or if we've fed constantly since 11 Confused gosh the sleep deprivation is getting to me!

I hope others are having a good night tonight!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 22/12/2012 00:57

6-8 weeks Shock I'd give them merry hell about them starving your child and denying simple treatment, that's appalling! Channel the hormones!! Your milk will be in any minute, which means you'll get loads more over the next day or two.

Clarella · 22/12/2012 01:53

willyou the expressing is exhausting but hang in there for your milk. and echo 6-8 weeks being ridiculous! I thought it was quite an easy thing to do?!

by the way I had lots of conflicting advice re pumping and ended up over expressing meaning that when ds fed he wasn't reaching the hindmilk - which is a gradual change throughout a feed, but as he moved on to demand bf he couldn't feed for long enough. too much fore milk can make them a little windy. ive since been sticking yo one breast over 2 hours. some said express for 10 mins, some said 20, some said till you stop dripping ( which seemed to be never on day 3) it's worth checking again with someone for advice tailored to your milk supply when it comes in and ds's needs/ weight. I've been told no more than 15 mins at mo if I want to.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 05:53

I agree 6-8 weeks is ridiculous. A threat of stopping breastfeeding should speed them up (I know it would have with ds's paediatrician). I did it for a week and a half and I found it exhausting, I really feel for you. I would definitely get some advice. Envy

Well we fed 11, 1:30 (dp did bottle ebm) and are feeding now. I think he would have gone a bit longer but dd came in and turned my lamp on!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 22/12/2012 06:14

I handed R over to dp at 5. He then woke me at 6 cos he needed the loo Angry

SpottyTeacakes · 22/12/2012 06:15

Oh pidj I hope he is going to make you breakfast after waking you up!
