Getting the thread ready when all the Christmas puddings start making appearances...

spotty at her age I would completely ignore her. She's too young to threaten [bad mummy emoticon] but if she gets no attention for it she should stop pretty sharpish. Good luck.

Well ds2 was up again at 4 and 6 and is now feeding again!

Clarella · 21/12/2012 07:53

god I'm crap keeping up with this thread! will try to do better.

honey hv said something about the soft bit on top of head might pop up if they're ill ???? Confused

spotty I don't have another child but at work with my sen kids who are sort of at toddler level though aged 7 - 11 I find a complete non reaction, looking the other way and then offering a distraction quite good - as soon as they latch on the word causes a reaction they keep doing it. if the word is treated as little as 'donuts' they loose interest. however, I have no idea if this works ay home!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/12/2012 08:08

clarella not sure about their soft spot 'popping up' if ill but if they're dehydrated the soft spot sinks so they have a dip in their head

WeeJo08 · 21/12/2012 08:10

Have appointment for 9 o'clock. Hopefully that will sort me out. Hope Dash's jabs go okay, honey.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/12/2012 08:13

Right I will ignore. I hope she doesn't say it at nursery Blush it's completely my fault too it's what I say when I hurt myself Hmm

Afrodizzywonders · 21/12/2012 08:40

I'm off to the dr's today, both my eyes are red and sore and I have the start of an uber nasty nose sore, very run own.

Kitty cluster fed from 5.30pm-10pm last night then woke 1am, 4am and7am.

We just managed our first feed lying down, that's just amazing as I can properly relax.

WeeJo08 · 21/12/2012 09:10

Oh dear Afro Hmm hope the doctor sorts you out.

I haven't tried feeding DD lying down - how do you do it?

WeeJo08 · 21/12/2012 09:10

Afrodizzywonders · 21/12/2012 09:22

Weeks, here is a link how to breastfeeding lying down www.mother-2-mother.com/tut-layingdown.htm. It is far more relaxing than sitting up, during the nit it was a godsend when I fed my first....

FriendofDorothy · 21/12/2012 09:24

We had a good night too. Woke at 3 and 6 to feed and he is still asleep. Just about to wake him up.

Afrodizzywonders · 21/12/2012 09:35

Sorry for the typos!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 21/12/2012 09:54

We managed 8-11:30 and 12-3:30 but he was awake and ready to play for the day from about 4 Xmas Hmm

Hope all the ill people get better soon Brew

Bellaboo123 · 21/12/2012 10:59

HV just been and A has gone from 6lb 2oz to 6lb 10oz in a week!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/12/2012 11:24

Well done bella how old is A now?

Bellaboo123 · 21/12/2012 11:48

3 weeks tomorrow...at least my all night feeding is doing something lol!

RarelyUnreasonable · 21/12/2012 12:11

4 weeks today and ds celebrated by sleeping 11 til 4 and then 530 til 730 Grin. The bedtime bottle of formula may have helped...

Secondsop · 21/12/2012 12:15

spotty the appointment was today. He's put on a little bit since Wednesday which is good news. I increased the formula to 3 feeds a day over the past couple of days and that's obviously helped a little. The doctor said he seemed otherwise fine - didn't seem dehydrated or unwell. We're to take him in at the end of next week (or on Christmas Eve if we're worried about anything) for them to weigh and check him again. He'll also be weighed at the health visitor clinic next Thursday as well.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/12/2012 13:28

So the dr didn't seem concerned seconds? Good news that he's put on weight Smile

Dd and ds are both asleep. I could have a nap too but feel I should be doing the red cabbage....!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/12/2012 14:33

bella sounds like you're doing something right! Well done you and A!

seconds it's good he's put on some weight and the doc seems happy. Well done you!

Well I haven't got up yet (other than to fetch food). Me and ds2 are having a very lazy day after our awful night!

WeeJo08 · 21/12/2012 15:47

Thanks for the link Afro will check it out now.

Well, went to the doctor this morning & she was absolutely lovely. Said it looked like "classic mastitis" but the good news is I have apparently spotted it really early so no other symptoms like temperature, shivers, etc. She has given me antibiotics to stop it getting worse. She said that I could leave it & see if it goes down by itself but that she'd recommend taking the antibiotic to be safe. Going to do that as I think the last thing I need is to be unwell + sleep deprived over Christmas!!

We've just been down to DH's work to introduce his colleagues to Claudia - they all fell in love with her & told us how beautiful she is so naturally we basked in our daughters reflected glory Grin

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/12/2012 16:09

Glad the doc gave you antibiotics weejo I'd def be taking antibiotics at this time of year. The last thing you need is for it to get bad when the doctors are closed!

Still in bed, feeding about every hour and a half, hopefully he will sleep tonight after all this feeding [hopeful emoticon]

Secondsop · 21/12/2012 16:15

spotty the doctor wasn't too worried as he'd gained a little since Wed, was producing wet and dirty nappies, and nothing else came up on the physical examination.

weejo glad you've got the antibiotics - hopefully you'll be much better by Christmas!

Secondsop · 21/12/2012 16:20

Oh spotty re the swearing, a friend's 2.5 year old started calling her mum a fucking bitch (!) - they think she heard some older children saying it at the campsite they went to on holiday. In the end, they resorted to telling her that her granny and granddad wouldn't come and see her any more if she said it again. It worked, but not sure I'd advocate that approach! The ignore her approach seems much wiser.

Clarella · 21/12/2012 16:36

gah I keep posting here and getting distracted and then not pressing send! bad the number of texts that are still in draft form!!!

my morning post included: hot lemon and honey for all the poorly people and cuddles for any poorly babies - how's Dash honey?;
yes I was a bit Hmm at the head thing stacey wondered if anyone else was told that?

seconds, several people have mentioned that some hvs get very hung up on weight gain where as docs are more laid back. not sure if anyone mentioned but I found bf headline surprisingly helpful explaining how to get the most out of milk (are you bf and top ups? sorry I may have missed some posts)

I too have a mini rhino in the room - does anyone else's Dh get excessively worried about this and when baby is sick? babies puke right?! he's only done it 4 times in 10 days and I can account fir each as not being properly winded/ a failed attempt with a bottle (we're leaving them now he doesn't need top ups as he's doing so well on the boob and I can just about cope with the sleep patterns) but dh is ready to buy shares in infacol. this baby worries me for the LACK of crying ( though don't we know it at changing time).

I am such a proud mummy; George Cosmo was weighed by hv yesterday on day 9 and after being born at 5lb 2oz at 42 weeks (and making mummy very sad and worried for a week) he now weighs 5lb 13oz!!!! mummy is working on not googling v low birth weight

and I swear his head has grown huge today.

....and there was an explosive nappy. must....post..... this post ......

SpottyTeacakes · 21/12/2012 16:44

Great news clarella! Some babies' are just sicky, others not so much, and it always looks more than it is. The HV said to me that most babies don't start properly crying until two weeks Grin dd was six weeks and she was four weeks early so I suppose that works.... Ds on the other hand knows how to cry!
