Dying for a wee but Dash is asleep for the first time in hours lying on my chest. Can't bear the screams if I wake him...

MaMaPo · 18/12/2012 20:04

This child is getting worrying - since 1pm she's fed for 19 min

Clarella · 18/12/2012 20:22

oh honey - can you clamp him in one hand and try to go to loo or does any movement wake him?

after being driven nuts by the lovely conflicting nursery nurses re bf and expressing I phoned the breastfeeding help line and spoke to a really lovely Scottish lady who was sooooooo helpful - thoroughly recommend it for any questions. to train my over expressed boobs down a bit and let Cosmo get the fatty latter good stuff Im to stick to one side over 2 whole hours - so if he wants more (usually does if needs changing after a feed) it's back on that breast. she saidI'm aiming for softer breasts (less engorged). fab results, in a day, getting yellow poos finally! the earlier milk has more lactulose apparently which makes them windier. (sorry if you all knew that I'm late to the party and found that fascinating.)

I have had a horrendous headache today. Decided in the end that it was probably due to being dehydrated so loads of water, painkillers and back to bed for the afternoon and I feel much better.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 18/12/2012 22:31

FoD I had an awful headache the other day and realised that 1 pint of water all day and bfing every 2 hrs do not mix Blush

We have our 'new baby' hv visit in the morning. Bath for me and Ethan after the school run methinks. He's just started shedding his skin. I remember dd being almost like a snake at this age! Bath and moisturiser should help.

FriendofDorothy · 18/12/2012 22:36

How often are you guys bathing your babies?

brooke89 · 19/12/2012 00:10

Fod I've only attempted it once so far and it was a bit of a disaster, going to give it another go tomorrow. I think mw said no more than 2 a week

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 19/12/2012 01:05

I've strip washed him twice and will attempt a bath tomo. If he screams too much I'll carry on strip washing for a while lol. As long as they are cleaned it doesn't matter his it happens.

MaMaPo · 19/12/2012 01:52

Two baths, 2 strip washes in 2 weeks. Much prefer strip washes st this stage. Skin's almost completely shed and have been using olive oil on her (to MIL's horror!).

Is there anything more annoying than a wide awake baby when you know you have to be up in two hours? Sad

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 19/12/2012 04:35

Nothing at all, Spotty. I've refused to let r sleep on me, had no more than 2 hours straight Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 19/12/2012 04:44

He's been awake for two hours now. Just done a big poo though I might be able to squeeze in an hour.... I feel bad because I'm wishing dd wasn't around so I could sleep!

Two hour stretches is definitely an improvement pidj and you will definitely be pleased you did it in the long run Smile

RarelyUnreasonable · 19/12/2012 05:10

No sleep for me either. Ds wanted to feed every hour, but seems to forget how to latch on in the night. Cue screaming.

MaMaPo · 19/12/2012 06:29

I hate to be that person, but my usual 1.5-2.5 hour night waker has just done two 4 hour stretches of sleeping. I am so confused - and my boobs are killing me.

I am wishing other wakeful mums some magical sleeping vibes. It will improve!

Cookiesandcoffee · 19/12/2012 06:37

spotty don't feel bad I feel exactly the same. Do you find yourself counting down throughout the night because you've only got X amount of hours before they'll be up too ?!

Does anyone else have a ridiculous amount of milk?! Mine just leaks constantly .

I've forgotten when it is they shed their skin?

I've been so naughty and let LO sleep with me all night again but she sleeps so well?! Please someone reassure me it's not just me and I'm not a terrible mother ?!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/12/2012 06:59

Cookies yes I do! Dd has her settling in at nursery today so I have to be out the house by nine Shock ds will no doubt sleep for five hours now and I'm not even sure I'm legal to drive! You're definitely not a bad mum! If dp wasn't such an oaf I would probably out ds in with me Grin

I might cancel ds's hearing screening tomorrow because I can't handle the forty minutes there and then trying to get thm both out the car in the rain etc Confused

RarelyUnreasonable · 19/12/2012 07:09

Coffee's on you, mama and cookies!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/12/2012 07:10

Rarely and I will go have a lay down on the sobbing sofa Grin

FriendofDorothy · 19/12/2012 07:37

I had a really bad night too. Felt Luke Edward needed to feed constantly. It's just exhausting!

brooke89 · 19/12/2012 07:41

I'm on the sobbing sofa - only 2 hours again last night Hmm bring me the coffee!

RarelyUnreasonable · 19/12/2012 07:43

.
Have started a Chat thread about nocturnal babies, hope someone has a miracle solution...

Is anyone using nipple guards? Ds is 4 weeks on fri, and generally a good feeder so v tempted to try them. Have some boots ones and a pair of painful nips crying out for respite!

RarelyUnreasonable · 19/12/2012 07:43

Cross-post. Coffee for brooke.!

Barbeasty · 19/12/2012 08:10

Cookies if they want to feed all night then having them in with you is so much easier.

I feel bad for DD. DH and I seem to be telling her off for all sorts of things that she would have got away with 5 days ago. I have to keep reminding myself she's behaving exactly the same, it's just our expectations have increased massively. And I can't get over how big she seems now Anthony is here.

DD keeps trying to be helpful, but it's a really fine line between thanking/ praising for wanting to help & share, and being firm about what she can't do- she mustn't carry him to me, no he wouldn't like to share her chocolate, I know I said he has just milk but I meant my milk and not from her beaker ...

We have the mw coming again today, and hopefully he's put weight on as he'd dropped just over 11% at 3 days. Going to register him this morning too.

I couldn't believe it when the cord fell off last night. With DD we were asking the HV about it, and I was still in the MLU at this point.

CODwidow · 19/12/2012 09:30

cookies dd has been in with me from day 1 and I did the same with my other 4 dc's and they were all in their own cots by 6 months. I think in the early days it's just about getting through and managing as much sleep as possible. Your not a bad mother!

Secondsop · 19/12/2012 09:36

I got a lovely unbroken 3 hour stretch last night. But it was because I accidentally fell asleep while feeding z in the lying/down position so he slept cuddled up next to me, which I know is ill-advised.
