3 hours!! She's been going from boob to boob for 3 hours!!

brooke89 · 17/12/2012 23:59

I've given in and given LO a bottle of aptamil to see if she sleeps better. MIL actually brought it round earlier with bottles, never thought I'd feel pressured into not breastfeeding... Feel like I can't moan about being tired because I'm bf! Hope she doesn't sleep any better deep down just to prove a point and get everyone off my back!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 18/12/2012 00:41

brooke of course you can moan about being tired even though you chose to breastfeed. Sleep deprivation is a form of torture!

Well Ethan screamed for half hour instead of latching Hmm

MaMaPo · 18/12/2012 00:57

First night trying infacol - wish me luck everyone! Also have colief in the house but not using it yet as its a pain having to mix with milk.

Tonight going ok - tomorrow MIL staying with us to manage her fussing/screaming, just to wake me for feeds. A v kind offer. I jumped as it meant I could fall asleep with my husband - I miss it so much, as at the moment we take it in turns to manage C while one of us sleeps.

Apparently, so far tonight little C's trapped wind has been helped with a dummy. Hopefully that works for my shift.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/12/2012 01:39

Every two hours on the dot. How does he know?! We definitely have day and night mixed up. I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow so might try feeding him every two hours instead see if that makes a difference... Also I have a headache Sad

Brooke you can moan all you like. One bottle won't do any harm bit don't feel you have to do it!

Enjoy your sleep mama sounds lovely Smile

brooke89 · 18/12/2012 02:01

I know nightmare ILs and it hasn't worked so I can tell them to F off tomorrow. She's happily sucking away at boob now Grin will persevere!

Bellaboo123 · 18/12/2012 02:09

At least you've proved a point brooke!

This bf lark is bloody exhausting I never realised quite how much!

brooke89 · 18/12/2012 02:37

Me neither but if we can master it then its worth it and tbh I think everyone's doing really well!

Also annoying is all these pads - every time I do nappy change its a change of pad and Breast pads for me! Anyone know how long the bleeding lasts for?

Bellaboo123 · 18/12/2012 02:40

I was told up to 6 weeks but I'm just over 2 weeks in now and have hardly any bleeding now.

Aurelia has just had another feed but doesn't want to settle yet...stubborn madam!

Hope we all have better nights tonight!

brooke89 · 18/12/2012 03:19

6 weeks! Confused

Hope she settles down - I've just put Isla in her Moses basket fingers crossed she settles too!

FriendofDorothy · 18/12/2012 03:21

Can anyone remember how long a newborn should feed for. Edward is feeding for about 10 mins each side (at the most) every 2 hours.

Either he is really efficient or he isn't getting enough!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/12/2012 03:48

FoD Felix only feeds for ten minutes one side each feed. He just has an efficient suck Grin

Walnut8 · 18/12/2012 04:14

Don't know FOD but the mw seemed to think that every two hours during the day was too much Confused ... but then that I wasnt feeding enough at night (A can go without some nights from midnight to 6am?!).

Honestly, I keep veering between thinking "this is my second and I'm feeding on demand and she's gaining more than enough weight, so it's all okay" and "shit, she's not getting enough/too frequently/not enough at night/I'm just not doing it right" etc etc etc. Mad.

I remember bleeding for about 2-3 weeks last time. I'm hoping for a max of three weeks, I agree the pads are such a pain.

MaMaPo · 18/12/2012 04:35

Why don't they just come with instruction manuals? Then at least you'd be able to turn to the Troubleshooting page

Am such a mug - just woke C for a feed as its been 2.5 hours. But she stinks to high heaven and will wake during her change so I might as well fill her belly. Or would others let her stay in a wet/soiled nappy, as long as she's comfy enough to sleep?

Clarella · 18/12/2012 04:42

so far (ours aren't smelly yet) I would as doesn't seem to bother him though were just decided to change in same situation! my reasoning is a feed clams them after though of course they usually poo again ..... Grin that doesn't really answer it!

Clarella · 18/12/2012 04:42

calms them ...

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 18/12/2012 04:56

I would change her mama as you say then you can fill her belly. It won't do any harm.

Well Ethan just slept from 1-4.40. :) he's still fussing at the breast today though Confused

Walnut8 · 18/12/2012 05:17

I find A gets a bad nappy rash if I don't change her when she has a nappy full of poo. And/or it leaks and gets all over everything. Otherwise I would be inclined to leave her.

That's a good stretch stacey!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/12/2012 05:41

I leave ds if he isn't bothered and is asleep. If he stirs or anything I change him straight away

RarelyUnreasonable · 18/12/2012 06:07

fod ds fed for 5-10 mins for the first couple of weeks, but still gained weight. Each day the feeds last a little longer.
brooke keep going for as long as you want to - fwiw, I ff dc1, and she didn't sleep through until 6 months... And not consistently for many more months.
mama I used Infacol before every feed yesterday, and last night was much better. No trapped wind, anyway.

Ds also has night and day mixed up - any ideas how to teach this?
As for pads, it was about 8 weeks w dc1. Seems to have stopped at 3weeks this time as you get hoovered with a c-section!

Secondsop · 18/12/2012 06:10

Zach won't stop crying.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/12/2012 06:50

The one time dd is still asleep at this time and ds is wise awake from 5:30! Typical!

MaMaPo · 18/12/2012 07:48

So basically, Infacol is brilliant. Little C has slept in stretches of 2-3 hours overnight and has had to be woken to feed (my boobs make excellent alarm clocks). I worry a little because she's also feeding way less (5-10 minutes instead of 15-20) but I will keep an eye in that and be more concerned if she doesn't increase in time across the course of the day or when she's more awake. She's still fidgeting and grunting a lot, but seems less acutely in pain.

Oh, seconds. It's so stressful, isn't it? I burst into sobbing years yesterday because of it (and also because my husband snapped at me due to his level of stress). I really hope he has calmed down and you have too. Can I give some contraband hugs on here?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 18/12/2012 08:37

Ok after 4.40 Ethan screamed until around half 6! At which point I must have fallen asleep as DH woke up me asleep with baby across me and boob out! Blush

And I've got a nasty cold and sore throat. Oh the joys!

Secondsop · 18/12/2012 09:59

Thanks mamapo - turned out he wanted yet more food so I'd been feeding him pretty much constantly from 2am-7am and it was utterly wearing me down. Plus a wet nappy every 2 hours. I also got irrationally cross with my husband for making the quite sensible decision to sleep in another bedroom to get some sleep, because although I know there's absolutely nothing to be gained from both of us being kept awake, I hated being left to it. I'm afraid there were several spells where I just lay and sobbed while Zach screamed for several minutes. And now he's starting up again.
