Ethan is laying on his changing mat wide awake gurgling to himself! So so cute! Dd keeps peering at him while she eats a picnic tea on the floor (toast, cucumber and carrot! Lol) and watches the grinch.

I love it when there's peace in the house!

brooke89 · 17/12/2012 17:58

Missmummy my LO refuses to I have tried each night till 5am she will only sleep on my chest. Not even going to attempt it tonight and just going to let her sleep there... I need sleep!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2012 18:43

Honey the shred is available on amazon and is a killer 20 minute work out DVD Grin I'm trying not to be jealous of my friend whose week old (ff) baby is barely waking at night...

Missmummypenny · 17/12/2012 18:58

So my LO is far from unique then - good to know. Brooke I know what you mean about just letting them do it as you need the sleep.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 17/12/2012 19:03

spotty generally ff babies will sleep longer. Just think of all the great antibodies etc you're giving ds by bf. it will make all the sleepless nights worth it :)

Clarella · 17/12/2012 19:03

congratulations to all the new mummies!

hi all checking in and will need to do some serious recapping on both threads
wee George Cosmo is now a week and 2 hours old and I'm celebrating with my much needed skin to skin time.

I feel more like he was born today than last week. Ill give a proper birth story another time - despite the 'emergency' bit I found the whole thing very positive. what I found harder the deal with was his weight - 5lb 2 oz - at 42 weeks. I sort of was in shock all week, on top of the physical shock my body was in as it was not at all predicted from scans e.tc though I'd noticed measurements hadn't increased for the last few weeks. anyway, despite my worries it was my fault/some sort of syndrome/illness etc he is now more than fine. I feel I've had some bonding issues as a result of the section and worry. my placenta was small though oddly they said very healthy for 42 wks. I feel he either just didn't lay down fat stores as he's long but v skinny or started to loose them.

the best thing is my milk supply was freaky, talk about feeding the 5000 with the colostrum and the transition milk may as well have been proper milk! and wee Cosmo came out ready to guzzle - the nurses were hesitant but then so impressed with him when I finally poo pooed their 3 hourly feeds with top ups (worried more bf was too tiring for him) and went to demand feeding, because basically he was really demanding it (doesn't really cry air it tho) - in 2 days he put on 140g!

so he's now 5.lb 5oz so fingers crossed he can keep it up :) I've learnt a lot about yellow and green poo today from the la lech league and breastfeeding support line. the hardest thing in hospital ( apart from attempting to hand express colostrum 30 hours post op bent over a cup in the dark as the light didn't work with my glasses falling off my nose trying to hold my mobile in my teeth for light) - was the mammoth amounts of conflicting advice about bf! drove me nuts!

sorry big me post and I'm looking forward to reading all the stuff I've missed!

Clarella · 17/12/2012 19:05

I sort of needed to get all that off my chest, hope you don't mind ladies x

Bellaboo123 · 17/12/2012 19:12

Welcome back clarella!

Bellaboo123 · 17/12/2012 19:13

Oooh and off to google the shred!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2012 19:15

Lovely to hear from you clarella Smile glad all is going well

I've just expressed for the first time since moving to ebf and the amount I've got is pitiful Sad only 30ml it's hardly worth dp doing a feed Sad

Secondsop · 17/12/2012 19:33

Welcome clarella! That sounds like a really, really tough experience, but it sounds like you're doing absolutely brilliantly. Well done for sticking to your guns with the feeding.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 17/12/2012 19:47

Welcome back clarella

We had a cluster feed this afternoon so hopefully we'll have a few hours between feeds tonight. Not that I mind night feeding tbh, I find newborns so much easier than being pregnant!

WeeJo08 · 17/12/2012 19:48

Welcome back Clarella! Lovely to hear from you again & great to hear all your news. Glad George Cosmo doing well - sounds like he is thriving on the breastfeeding! Grin

brooke89 · 17/12/2012 20:11

Welcome back clarella Smile nice to hear you're both doing well!

HoneyMumandSon · 17/12/2012 20:21

Welcome back clarella

Bit worried about Dash - despite being up to 7lb 5 last week we tried him in his newborn clothes tonight which are supposed to be up to 7 and a half lb (up till now he's been in tiny baby) and they are all still massive on him. He's getting the weight but is still really compact.

Secondsop · 17/12/2012 21:11

honey I think those weight guides on clothes are all over the shop. Eg we've got some 7lb vests and they have to really be stretched to fit 6llb-something Zach, and we've also got some newborn babygrows that are way too big for him. Try not to worry - all babies are different shapes eg Zach often fits right to the feet of something whilst the arms will be flapping around an inch too long.

Clarella · 17/12/2012 21:17

thankyou ladies, sadly it kinda felt like it was a project with a deadline and targets but I was totally reliant on nurses and my electric lifty bed to do anything! I guess it's all about perception and focussing on the positives! I still giggle about the birth bit, despite an 'emergency' it was also quite funny at times (will write some time soon!)

all the staff were wonderful though (despite never agreeing) :)

honey what make are they? I'm noticing bizzare differences in arm n leg lengths between the diff makes.

Bellaboo123 · 17/12/2012 21:30

Honey we're all over the place on sizes too - arms and legs seem to be massive! It's shop is so different on sizing!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2012 21:32

I wouldn't worry too much either honey we've always found most baby clothes pretty big even on our porker babies Wink

Bellaboo123 · 17/12/2012 22:10

Argh DP just spilt a bottle of expressed milk all over me - what a waste!!!AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 17/12/2012 22:15

Oh no bella :(

Well we're still cluster feeding. This has been going on since 6. I'm watching Ross noble DVD trying not to giggle too much as it disturbs ds feeding. DH has been asleep for the past hour. Tomo morning I am coming back to bed. And if he moans he's tired (like today Hmm) I'm going to punch him. (he's not been disturbed by ds at night at all).

I am enjoying my snuggles though. Can't believe how perfect my baby is :)

Secondsop · 17/12/2012 22:40

Don't wish to jinx everything but I am currently NOT involved in cluster feeding. Z has been feeding on something resembling a 2-3 hour pattern today including a record feed of 55 minutes earlier. He has been asleep for much of it though so I hope he's not just keeping his powder dry for a renewed nipple attack tonight. I am taking to my bed, while my husband will keep Z downstairs for a while longer while he (husband!) watches the cricket and he'll give him a bottle, and I'll then take over with the breast in the early hours.

I know not everyone approves of mixed feeding but that nighttime bottle is what is currently keeping us halfway sane, and I do seem to still have milk to satisfy Z during the rest of the day. He was on formula only for his first 5 days and as i didn't start to dry up then, I'd hope that I'm at a position now where I can successfully add a bottle and subtract a feed without it adversely affecting the supply.

Cookiesandcoffee · 17/12/2012 22:50

Oh no bella I would be angry!
Today I expressed a load just to relieve my boobs, got over 4oz from one boob I was impressed.. But can't use it can i? Well il freeze but when can we introduce bottles? No problems with bf and she has dummys no prob ?

Welcome back Clarella I've been away from MN too just been so hectic. Glad everything is ok. Looking forward to your birth story. Still not posted mine actually. Oops.

Those MiLs need a good telling off to be shot I'm yet to have dps family around when she needs a feed. Dreading Christmas. I don't know how you keep your mouth shut!

stacey lots of cluster feeding in the evenings here too. I'm thoroughly enjoying my snuggles. I don't want her to ever not be this small!

Had 5th day appointment today and B has only lost about 3oz which is 2% of her birth weight (and had done three big poos just before Smile) so feeling a proud mummy

HoneyMumandSon · 17/12/2012 22:56

cookies bottles should be fine- specially if she has a dummy no probs. dash has been on combination breast and ebm since about a week old

HoneyMumandSon · 17/12/2012 22:58

Oh and clothes- he's outgrown asda tiny baby but their newborn are hugs, just still get into John Lewis tiny baby, mothercare tiny baby sleepsuits are a bit big but tiny baby dungarees are huge, marks newborn vests are a good ish fit.
