Getting the thread ready when all the Christmas puddings start making appearances...

I've got the avent dual electric one brooke. It's good enough but much cheaper online than in shops

HoneyMumandSon · 16/12/2012 20:05

Re: boobs. One of mine us back to normal most of the time but one is still really full Confused

Bellaboo123 · 16/12/2012 20:07

I'm getting on well with my medela swing like the spectra you can change the strength.

Also it comes with a calma bottle which is apparently as near to the sucking action a baby needs to create on the nipple...

Welcome dog...feel your pain with OH!

Secondsop · 16/12/2012 20:18

Welcome dogs. Re your husband - is this your first c-section? If so I wonder if he doesn't realise how different the recovery is compared to a vaginal birth.

brooke I've got the medela swing. It was recommended by the hospital and they let me have a go on their big industrial medela to see if I got on with it. I'm not getting on well with expressing generally but I don't think that's the fault of the pump. It has adjustable levels and is reasonably comfortable to use. I don't think I'd like a manual pump as I gather they can be quite hard on the hands.

dogsagoodun · 16/12/2012 20:58

Hi all! Yes first section. The other two are 4 and 2. I think you're right that maybe he does not appreciate that a section is very different. I am certainly finding recovery much harder than the other times.

Thanks for advice. Will try a tactful chat tonight!

Is it ok to hang around here? Would be lovely to have some company. Feeling a bit lonely just recovering up in bedroom whilst listening to chaos ensue downstairs! (although thoroughly enjoying all this time alone with the new one)

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/12/2012 21:28

dogs welcome, we're a rather chatty bunch (when the new bundles let us) so we'll keep you company!

Well I am expecting a bad night as Ethan has slept all evening. At least I'm prepared.

brooke89 · 16/12/2012 21:50

Course you can dogs Smile

Thanks for the advice ladies, think ill have a look online of they're cheaper!

Really hoping for a good night tonight - certainly due one!

RarelyUnreasonable · 16/12/2012 21:52

Hi dogs, I'm new to the thread too and also recovering from a c-section.

Wishing y'all a good night. see you in the early hours.

dogsagoodun · 16/12/2012 21:58

Hi rarely. How you feeling? How long since section?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 16/12/2012 21:59

Welcome along, Dogs Brew

R had his first bottle (ebm) today, although he wouldn't touch it with me in the room. Duck to water when i buggered off according to a very chuffed-with-himself dp. No apparent nipple confusion, if anything he's got more efficient as he's feeding shorter and sleeping longer... Fingers crossed!

Mine's a Phillips Avent manual, perfectly adequate but tiring on the arm muscles

RarelyUnreasonable · 16/12/2012 22:09

I have that pump too pidj. Not used it this time round yet, but it was great w dd.
dogs mine was an elcs about 3 weeks ago. I've really noticed a difference in the last couple of days and am starting to feel much better. Still taking it v easy though and am lucky to have DM here entertaining the toddler and taking charge of housework now that DH is back at work.

Bellaboo123 · 16/12/2012 22:35

Question for those expressing...when do you tend to give the expressed milk? Does DP solely give bottle/have you tried giving bottle? Do you give am or pm? Just wondering what's best...

Cookiesandcoffee · 16/12/2012 22:45

Welcome to all these newbies Grin hope you're enjoying your little bundles.

Been so hectic I've not even had time for mumsnet?! Feeding is a mission and a half. Will catch up properly soon I promise

WeeJo08 · 16/12/2012 23:21

Mine is the Philips Avent electric one (single) which I really like. Simple to put together which is good for me (am not v technical!)

Bellaboo C gets the expressed milk in the evening if I think my supply's running out! Tonight she had milk from me up until about 9 then switched to expressed. Either DH or I feed her, whoever's free!

FriendofDorothy · 16/12/2012 23:48

Ooo think my milk starting to come in. Boobs starting to feel distinctly solid d d lumpy. Very strange feeling!

brooke89 · 16/12/2012 23:49

I think I'm going to go for the avent one. Have been trying to settle I since 8 and no luck... Really don't know what I'm doing wrong Hmm everytime I put her into her basket she lays there for 5 mins then cries to be fed, feed her wait for her to fall asleep, back in the basket and she cries again ConfusedAngry surely she must be tired? And now I'm worrying that I'm not producing enough milk to satisfy her - hence the breast pump so we can see how much she's having. Really don't think I can handle another night of only 2 hours sleep!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2012 01:38

brooke expressing won't give you am idea of how much milk she is getting as babies are much better at getting milk out than a pump Smile it sounds like a comfort thing to me, she just wants to be close to her mummy!

FoD it's a weird feeling isn't it?!

I thought ds had gone four hours but no, it's only been two!

brooke89 · 17/12/2012 01:43

Hmm Thought that might help. Sat here crying - 6 hours I've been trying for now, rowing with DP Angryfeeling mega sorry for myself!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2012 02:41

Oh brooke Sad how about putting her in the pushchair? Anything to get you an hours sleep

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 17/12/2012 02:58

Brooke, it's a growth spurt. she's building your supplies - you're doing it right not wrong by feeding constantly. It sucks, but you have to ride it out - it's just for a day or two, honest.

I've ridden it, just slept with R on my chest for 4 solid hours Xmas Shock

Bellaboo123 · 17/12/2012 03:04

Echo what spotty and pidj saying, it sounds like a growth spurt, it's shit for you but it's how LOs tell the body to get producing more milk. It will get better honest we had a spurt at around 9 days and again at 14

MaMaPo · 17/12/2012 03:07

Ok, feeling a bit desperate. Little C has been really restless at night and I think she's had trapped wind, albeit really mildly (no crying/screaming, just fidgeting and squawking). So tonight I have fed her and tried to wind her. A couple of farts, no burps, and she's beside herself. Never heard her cry like this. She cries whenever I lie her down to swaddle her, and the only way I can calm her is by putting her on the breast. But isn't this compounding the problem - giving her more of an opportunity to trap more wind? I am a bit at my wits end - she's miserable, I'm exhausted, and we're going round in circles.

Help?

I've tried all the techniques I've read about but she gets so upset that I haven't really tried anything longer than a couple of minutes. Any other ideas? I'd try infacol or something, but there's none in the house and I have no idea who'd sell it at this time and don't have a car anyway.

:(

Bellaboo123 · 17/12/2012 03:11

Mama that's frustrating...Have you looked on YouTube at some baby massage techniques to ease colic? I tried that and got some infacol like you said. Some one recommended to me trying her with some cooled boiled water...haven't tried it though.

Secondsop · 17/12/2012 05:59

Oh god,Z has been feeding all night. I can't cope with this.

Bellaboo123 · 17/12/2012 06:24

Growth spurt seconds? How many days old now?
