Getting the thread ready when all the Christmas puddings start making appearances...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

He does get his tummy filled, it's just the odd occasion he seems determined to drive me to distraction getting there! 9/10 feeds are easypeasy.

2oz/60ml expressed. Is that loads or pathetic?

kate2boysandabump · 16/12/2012 11:58

Sorry everyone else is having a crap time too. Got the pump out as feeding off the right is excrutiating. Hoping to give it a bit of a break and try and sort the latch when the midwife comes tomorrow.

Going to try and get some nipple shields too.

pidj sorry you feel like giving up. Try and just get through today. I'm just taking it an hour at a time.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 11:58

That's a good amount pidj Smile they were giving Felix 30ml/hour in SCBU based on his weight at the time of 8lb3

Secondsop · 16/12/2012 12:24

kate "one day at a time" is what is getting me through. The thought of months and months of breastfeeding stretching ahead scares me, but then I remember I've got this far and that if you're still breastfeeding at 2 weeks there's a good chance you'll still be going a few months later.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 12:28

Is that true seconds? It's night time that I often have a wobble and want to stop I'm fine in the day!

Secondsop · 16/12/2012 13:09

spotty yes I can't find the source now but a friend told me that most people who stop breastfeeding do so in the first couple of weeks and that if you can get past that point you're doing well. Another friend though told me that her particular moment of weakness came 6 weeks in so I'm sure it depends per person.

I find the nights the hardest too. Especially as although the midwife said formula top ups were fine for Z, the health visitor told me that it would be better not to formula feed at night but to breastfeed at that time because the levels of prolactin were higher.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 13:13

Between 2 and 4 in the morning is when it's highest apparently. One day at a time seems best as even another week like this seems too long!

RarelyUnreasonable · 16/12/2012 13:23

One hour/feed at a time works too Grin,

Ds asleep on my chest. Screams if removed, even if cuddled by someone else. It is cute, but I have things to do, quite fancy a nap and am bored as I read the whole Internet (it feels like) while he fed from 1.15 to 3.30am last night!!

Is anyone else irrationally grumpy w their DH?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/12/2012 13:49

rarely I'm grumpy with DH but not sure if it's unreasonable or not! Lol.

Had a bath but come back to bed, Ethan is sleeping on daddy. I might have a nap. :)

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 13:56

I could be having a nap right now but dp has buggered off to give his boss his time sheets. Sad

Secondsop · 16/12/2012 15:43

spotty Z clearly knows what he's doing as between 2-4am is when he's been at his hungriest for the last couple of nights! He's obviously stepped things up a bit as there are more nappy changes being required now.

We went to Wilkinsons. I don't know what possessed me. I think it's because my mum is visiting so we took the opportunity to pack in a household / baby shop while she could look after Zach. We certainly bought as if we would never get to shop again.

MaMaPo · 16/12/2012 18:22

My inlaws have arrived and mil has tarted taking per the house. Completely expected, but we need to train her to either sit down or leave when it's nap time. She is a whirlwind of energy and thinks 'ill just sort this out quietly' while I lie in bed fuming because I can hear every movement.

They're in the uk for a month. I am going to have to pace myself.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/12/2012 18:23

Has anyone else's boobs settled down? My engorgement has disappeared and I'm not sure there's enough milk to feed Ethan Confused he's only 8 days old. I'm having to put him on the second breast each feed. Slightly worried that he's not getting enough. God this is hard, I don't like the not knowing of bf at all!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 18:26

Mine have stacey they're all squishy and practically pre pregnancy size. Felix is still putting weight on though Smile

Secondsop · 16/12/2012 18:34

stacey mine have too - like spotty mine are pretty much at pre pregnancy size althoufh they didnt grow very much in pregnancy. Hope Z has started putting weight on - will see on Tuesday. He's certainly eating plenty at the moment.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/12/2012 18:51

Ok maybe I should relax about it. Lol I didn't realise that they'd sort themselves out so quickly! Xmas Blush I hope he's putting on weight, got hv visit on weds so I suppose they'll weigh him then.

Bellaboo123 · 16/12/2012 18:56

Mine did but I woke up after a bad night and they seemed engorged again! Mine seem massive! Fx they settle again!

Here's to hoping we all have a better night tonight!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 19:00

I hope so Bella I'm in bed already Blush with a packet of skittles

RarelyUnreasonable · 16/12/2012 19:07

Mine have shrunk too damn it.

Bellaboo123 · 16/12/2012 19:12

I'll share mine if anyone wants them!!! There is plenty if boobage to go around here lol!

Envy Of skittles and bed...DP friend is on his way cld so do without it!

dogsagoodun · 16/12/2012 19:14

A bit late but can I join in? Dd2 is 6 days old. She wad delivered by an emergency section on Monday two days before a planned section. I had a low lying Placenta which had caused a few bleeds. I bled heavily on Monday morn hence the emergency section.

We came home on Wed and so far things have been ok. Feeding going well. Feeling lesss pain as each day passes etc. I am so happy and really enjoying my third child!

But ... Dh is doing my head in! He really is trying I am sure of that. He is looking after two young children and housework and trying to work from home at the same time. But he is making a right meal of it. Only if I remind him a million times do things get done. Then I am accused of being too critical. I am aware that I am probably being unfair. He is in a foul mood because he is so busy but he is taking all the joy Out of it for me. I am sick if arguing and just wish he would use his common sense and do what needs doing. How do I talk to him without starting a major row?

Oh and huge congratulations to all those with new babies. It us such a magical time to have a new little person in the house.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 19:22

Welcome dogs and congratulations Smile

It's really hard trying not to offend the other half I think you just need to be honest and say how you really appreciate all he's been doing and you're sorry if you seem to be nagging but you've just had a baby and could he please just rinse the sink when he's done the washing up because its disgusting to leave it there Grin (guess what my dp never does?!) it will get easier you're only six days post major surgery and having a baby!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 19:23

How old are your other two dc?

brooke89 · 16/12/2012 19:36

Welcome dogs

Ladies that are using a breast pump - I'm sending DP in to town tomorrow to get me one. Is there any that you would recommend? I'm assuming an electric one is better?

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2012 19:40

I've got a spectra 3 not sure if you can buy it in shops though Confused I like it because you can change the strength of the suction so have it low to start so it doesn't hurt then crank it up. When I used a manual for dd, although it was good for getting the milk out, it was painful to start with and made my nipples bleed Shock
