Eliza, yours sounds exactly like mine in terms of weight and health, that's really reassuring.

kissyfur · 20/11/2012 15:19

Hello lovely ladies, finally coming to join you on this thread! Can't remember what I last updated but baby Francesca arrived 2:27pm on Thursday by c section, weighing 8lb 10 1/2 oz. it was all a bit if a whirlwind tbh, one minute we were sitting on the ward waiting to be told what was going to happen, the next I was on the operating table and she was coming out! I didn't enjoy the section one bit and was quite shell shocked afterwards but obv all worth if! She's the absolute spitting image of her big sister as a baby. Feeding is going well but midwife came today and said she has a tiny bit of jaundice. She's lost 380g which is in normal range apparently but she looks a lot less chubby now than when she was born. Just gotta keep feeding feeding feeding! (my poor nipples!) So in answer to your question VQ my LO was born by section, was a bigger bub at birth and has lost a fair bit.

I'm feeling a bit bruised and broken after the c section but so happy to have LO here finally. I'd forgotten how lovely it is having a newborn Smile

Congrats to everyone else who has graduated to this thread Smile

petit hope your LO is back home with you v soon

evil hope you are ok, please don't beat yourself up about what happened. When DD was small she wriggled off our bed and I felt awful about it for ages, but it was an accident - these things happen and they happen to everyone

DebussyHead · 20/11/2012 15:28

Petit so glad your wee one us doing ok and you are getting some answers. Must have been v frightening time for you.

Evil as everyone else has said could and will happen in some form to any of us. I am currently sleeping with J on my chest as it's the only way he will settle, he is 10 days old. We have a king size bed and DH is in spare room so I sleep in centre of bed with pillows and duvet cleared from either side so if he did roll off it will be onto mattress only hopefully! I have a Bednest attached to one side so he could roll into that but if I put him in he just cries and cries. Hoping after a couple weeks he'll have grown out of the need to sleep on me. My DD rolled off the bed at about 4nths with a great thud. What a fright, but it seems to be common at one point or other.

J was 9lbs 8oz at birth. 8lbs 12oz 2 days later and at 8 days was 10lbs! So feeding is going ok, he was vaginal delivery with ventouse tho. I am discharged from midwife now. Gave him first bath today and now his skin is all flaky and dry, used special sensitive baby bath stuff. Any tips on what to put on dry skin? Heard olive oil good?

NervousAt20 · 20/11/2012 16:02

I don't wake LO for a feed and she's never ever gone longer then 3 1/2 hours and she only ever went thy long once. I have to change her after every feed because she has huge poos after every feed

I use metanium if her bum starts looking abit red and imflammed but have sudocrem as well

Congratulations kissy

debussey my HV told me to use olive oil on dry skin

petite in glad you've got lots of good news and your feeling more positive, hopefully your LO will be home soon

Just got back from hospital as LO had her hip scan today and thankfully everything is fine and they don't want to see her again Smile I was completely amazed at how quick they were! We've been to a baby group today aswell and in glad I went, spoke to some lovely women and it got us out for a little while, going to another on Thursday too

horseylady · 20/11/2012 16:13

Nervous really nice isn't it? I spoke to some really nice people today.

Just been to see the crainiologist again, we dont need to go back unless the colic flairs up again. Totally recommend it if you are having issues. I might still be a bit sceptical but he's been happier since his first treatment Thursday. Could be an age thing though. Who knows!! She said he was more relaxed, he has felt that way.

We also had weight issues. Again traumatic delivery I do think it affects them!! He didnt eat for three days. Back on track now hopefully! Will get him weighed next week at the clinic.

daisychain76 · 20/11/2012 16:31

Great news nervous and congrats kissy. Baby H had his weekly weigh in with hv and has put on 9oz going up 1/2 a centile (to 2nd one), He was a c section. HV annoyed me tho ~ seems to assume. the sleep issues are to do with my milk supply. Left me feeling like my confidence has been knocked tho l feel fairly sure she?s wrong.

PetiteRaleuse · 20/11/2012 17:02

Yay. All the tests came back negative. The pee tests are going to go for more detailed analysis and they will call us if anything comes up because... We've been discharged ! Best birthday present ever. Obviously with paracetamol and nose drops and a long list of instructions along the lines of what ifs. But she's coming home. Has been a very long 48 hours. Cracking open the champagne this evening :)

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/11/2012 17:12

petite glad the doc listened to you, really does help when they're on your side! Hope she is home safe and sound with you very soon.

I haven't had a nap today and god do I feel tired. I'm all squinty eyed and throbbing head. I hate sleep deprivation, it's cruel because you want to enjoy your newborn but its like its ruining my first few weeks with her because I just want to sleeeeep!

I don't know how in going to cope with them both when dh is back at work next week.

ValiumQueen · 20/11/2012 17:31

petite happy birthday! Sorry I forgot you had said it was your birthday. Enjoy the champagne, and hope wee one is ok.

DS has not settled all afternoon due to wind I think. He would sleep on me, but nowhere else. Except the changing table, so that is where he is (closely observed)

Did anyone see the Oprah thing about babies talking? Very interesting. Sorry cannot link. I will try it out tonight and report back.

Gripe water is a bit more natural I am thinking than infacol etc. It is not colic. I will google such things later, and may start a thread to ask the great TikTok.

I will also see if there are any cranial boffins around locally. Was it expensive horsey ?

Have we heard from evil today?

catbag has been quiet too. Hope you are ok x

ValiumQueen · 20/11/2012 17:35

DH21 it is hard with two, but you just cope as you have to. Just remember you cannot keep them both happy all the time, and get out and about as much as you can. Peppa pig is your friend.

horseylady · 20/11/2012 17:41

Two sessions cost £60 well £57. Worth it IMO. Not sure if it was colic or a headache. The high pitched squealing has reduced, he'll lay on his back happier so maybe it did work. I'm happy to think it did!! I'd have been more suspect if shed have said he needed more treatment. One more I'd have accepted, much more probably not. Everyone I know who's used it has only had two or three treatments and noticed similar results.

He had all the symptoms I used these

ValiumQueen · 20/11/2012 17:46

Cheers horsey I was thinking DS would not need it as a section, but the web page says they can have problems as not had the moulding. His skull bones are quite angular which I have never noticed with the girls. Clearly DD2 had a fat head too Grin I figured it was part of his chiseled good looks.

horseylady · 20/11/2012 17:51

Well ds has a large posterior fontinal as well as the anterior one. I knew that before I went and she confirmed it. It's worth looking onto I guess. That's how I felt anyway. No idea if it would have rectified anyway? Who knows.

Petite glad she's coming home!!

Dh21 you'll find a routine and remember the sleeplessness doesn't last forever (though it feels like it!!)

YellowWellies · 20/11/2012 17:52

Jonas has his first cold manflu let's just say he's not a stoic and has been a snot firing limpet all day. I've finally got him to settle off me, on the couch closely guarded by our cat who leaps like he's been burned by every snuffle and wriggle.

Other than aspirating out any particularly big bogies (he has got narrow nostrils thanks to the birth) - I feel like there's nothing I can really give him other than cuddles and long feeds (he's slower to feed due to his blocked up nose). I don't really want to medicate him for the sake of it. But a cold - is there anything else I can do to help him? He doesn't have a temperature but is proper grumpy and snotty. I don't need to call the HV do I?

YellowWellies · 20/11/2012 17:52

Woo lovely news petite and daisy. I'm really chuffed for you ladies x

NervousAt20 · 20/11/2012 17:58

Yeh it is nice horsey I'm going back to another group on Thursday

Thank you daisy

Woop petite that's a great birthday present, I'm sure you'll be having lots of cuddles tonight

ValiumQueen · 20/11/2012 18:17

YW saline nose drops are good. You can get from dr on px or from supermarket. So long as he is otherwise well, ie not blue, no temp, eating, peeing pooing and not overly sleepy etc, he should be fine.

kissyfur · 20/11/2012 18:19

Happy birthday petite glad to hear DD is home Smile

Francesca had a bruise on her head after delivery, going to take her to see the cranial osteopath when she is about 10 days old like we did with DD.

Not sure what to suggest for a cold apart from menthol or carvol in the room but think our babies are too small for that yet YW? Hope he's better soon. Why did his nostrils get affected by the birth? Will they get better?

horseylady · 20/11/2012 18:21

Saline nose drops are fab!!! Really helped us!! Only used them twice but they worked. You feel mean administering them though!!

I also put olbas oil and lavender on a hanky (one drop of each) under his mattress at the very top end. That also helped over night.

ValiumQueen · 20/11/2012 18:26

I bought saline drops for DD from Tesco, got home, and someone had nicked them out of the box. Took them back and they did not believe me. Like I would bother to defraud them over two quid?? I also second olbas oil. Good stuff.

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/11/2012 18:39

I def think a routine will be needed, I never really had one with ds.
Luckily ds is really good at playing by himself and Q doesn't feed for age at a time.

YellowWellies · 20/11/2012 19:09

Oh my olbas oil said not to use until 3 months old? I suppose a hanky under the mattress can't hurt though. I might get some saline drops tomorrow if he's still suffering. He's not blue, doesn't have a temperature, is feeding (though slower due to blocked nose), and is a bit sleepy but then he is pretty sleepy generally as he's only reached term yesterday - mindst he ought to be sleepy considering rather than two hour long night feeds as normal - he fed non-stop from 1am til 5am last night....

ShellyBobbs · 20/11/2012 19:20

debussy, I've tried to pin down both my midwife and health visitor about what to put on dry skin as in our notes it says oil, ask midwife for advise. Midwife said don't use oil as it can affect babies ph balance and knock it out, don't use anything. The health visitor said much the same, they both said to just leave it or put a bit of vaseline on to ease it. So who knows? Tommy's ankles and feet looks like a Greggs pasty!

Petite Absolutely fantastic news, so pleased your little one is coming home Grin, you must all be so relieved!

I've had the health visitor here today, thank goodness I've got one that uses common sense and not charts. We had a good chat about breast-feeding, it seems that the area I live in is doing really well with it. I told her about all the advise from various HV's regarding formula top up's, she just looked a bit shocked and said there was no need for that straight off. She also said all babies were different and so lots wouldn't follow charts, she seems OK but we'll see!

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/11/2012 19:36

Also had the hv here, lied through my teeth about sleeping arrangements! She's in the 'do not co sleep under any circumstance' camp. Ds still co sleeps with us for half the night! I didn't tell her that either though Grin

Generally though she was v friendly and it's nice to have them there, even just knowing there's someone to call if things go wrong is reassuring.

YellowWellies · 20/11/2012 19:46

Shelly we were told not to use any products in the bath and only cotton wool and water for bums rather than wipes (even the sensitive ones) for the first six weeks - and if J gets flakey skin to apply a dab of olive oil after his bath to the dry areas. It seems to be working. Haven't heard about affecting pH balance but deffo planning to avoid baby bath products for a while as they all seem to be full of dodgy chemicals like parabens which I try to avoid.

VQ for the cheeky wipes I've added a couple of drops of their essential oil mix (lavender and chamomile) as they recommend but will keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't irritate his skin. It seems good so far - we've had a few weeping free nappy changes - result!
