I loved kate's thread name but thought we needed a birthday theme for this one. We'll soon have 6 weeks of birthdays to celebrate!

DS is certainly a stubborn little thing. He spent the whole 2 hours crying, and refused to eat, drink or sleep. He's in for his first full day on Monday. I'm not looking forward to that Sad

Aethelfleda · 07/11/2012 21:44

(((hug))) kate it will get better, honest.

Muffinpig · 07/11/2012 23:06

Quick catch-up from me as should be asleep...

Congrats missree on the promotion :)
northern what is a humzinger?!
kate DD has been settling in with the CM and have had a few tears as well. The thing is, DS still cries in the mornings sometimes and he's been going to her for 2 years and LOVES it there. He often doesn't want to come home and drags me around showing me what they've been doing all day. But he stiLl gets upset leaving me. DD is refusing formula and sleep as well. They will get there eventually but I know what you mean about the guilt! Especially now DS says that he wants me to stay home with him all day and not go to work :( but I keep telling myself to think long-term and that me working makes me more fulfilled and we will be able to afford a bigger house in the future, take them on holidays etc etc.

Good news here is that DS has given up his dummy! He's nearly 3 so it was time but he's had it (only for sleeping) since he was born as he was in NICU a while and it reduced his stress/discomfort etc so he was VERY attached to it and always sucked away at it like crazy to get to sleep. I had been saying for a few weeks how dummies were for babies and then at the weekend he said "mummy I don't want to be a baby anymore, I want to be a big boy" and gave me the dummy! It was as easy as that and I still can't quite believe that his sleeping hasn't been affected by it. As its been 3 days now we had a little ceremony today where I tied the dummy to a helium balloon and DS let go of it in the back garden. He was so proud of himself and yelled out "I'm not a baby any more!!". Awwwww, he's still MY baby but I have to be careful never to say that or he will get cross.

Oops I have ended up waffling on so will sign off now and go to sleep!

thekatsatonthematt · 08/11/2012 07:35

Aw muffin that is adorable.

NorthernChinchilla · 08/11/2012 11:07

That is really sweet muffin! A humzinger is something aethel recommended to me (if I've got the name right), they're sticks of pure mashed up fruit which are easy for babies to handle.

Working from home, so just taking my 5 minute break with a 'nana and off to empty the dishwasher.

Figgygal · 08/11/2012 12:42

Sorry for the drop off earlier in the week been very busy back at home and then full of germs so feeling sorry for self, not to mention DS 3rd tooth coming through meaning lots of disturbed nights/mornings although yesterday he slept until 7.20 .....best sleep ever!!!

Every year we have a 3ft artificial tree on a table as the skunk wouldnt cope with a 6fter she would be eating it/generally poking at it but even that will be fraught with boy related difficulties i expect as he is into everything, touches everything....god help us.

Off to catch up over lunch.

jigglebum · 08/11/2012 13:25

We'll put the christmas tree in the playpen this year! with no decorations low down.
Freya screams every time I drop her at nursery. It's horrible. She also barely sleeps. It is only one day a week but that is probably part of the problem.
Can't remember what else I wanted to say!

BeeMyBaby · 08/11/2012 13:39

Northern I can see where your colleague was coming from as DD1 was very good with the Christmas tree but I think I'll not be so lucky with super naughty DD2.

I was enjoying getting DD2 to push DD1 around in the little wooden walker we have last night, I started thinking maybe I should get them a ride on for Christmas but then decided I'd just be ruining their imaginations - if they can imagine its a ride on it can be a ride on (until it snaps!).

NorthernChinchilla · 08/11/2012 19:22

Gah! Bloody Amazon!

I ordered three things as presents last night, got to the 'what you've ordered' page and there were only two. Cue much swearing and having to re-order.

Today I get two copies of the damn item which dropped off the first order.

I just thought you were off having fun in Scotland figgy, sorry to hear you've been ill.

My Mum sent us all the advent calendars, which arrived today. Family tradition Smile. However, this year she has outdone herself- DP and I got a huge, foot and a half at least, in the shape of an Xmas tree, Thornton's Continental one each, and DS got a Thornton's one with his name iced on it Grin
DP even looked at me and asked if we actually had room for them! I showed them to Mum on Skype and she was rather taken aback at how big they were.

December mornings are going to be nyom

OiMissus · 08/11/2012 19:42

I got far too much chocolate for my birthday. Sad I really need to lose some weight though...
One of my friends posted a link showing "onetwotree", a wooden sustainable fold out tree, which I like. Wonder if its horridly expensive/ available here...

Figgygal · 08/11/2012 20:02

Shit just put DS to bed and discovered we have 1 nappy left, dh off at the spurs match in London and not home until early hours of morning by time he gets back, what do I do?

Sorry to hear of your woes Air Sad

AWomanCalledHorse · 08/11/2012 20:33

Hope your Uncle wasn't too badly injured Air, and that everything sorts itself out soon. x

Figgy, do you have any maxi pads or some of those postnatal ones or smaller sized nappies lying around? Put in a pair of your knickers (hairband around the back if they're too loose) & a towel on the cot sheet, it will need changing more often than a nappy but should last you until DH is back (had to do this when I was babysitting my sister once).

We ordered new bedroom furniture, put all our clothes in (open) bin bags in the kitchen until the furniture arrived today. Guess who has a mouse in the kitchen & now has to wash almost everything, not to mention the deep clean and find a mouse to catch/kill.

Northen, Amazon boo! GIant chocolate advent calenders?! sounds amazing!

Aww muffin! What a big boy he is! How sweet.

jigglebum · 08/11/2012 20:45

Had a bit of a shite tiring day today, culminating in freya screaming about going to bed and has terrible nappy rash again with explosive nappies again and a moody dh (and me) but watching crap tv - 16 and pregnant and feeling better about myself and life!!!

Advent calenders - yum!
Have you seen the thread about how much people spend at christmas? - 700 quid on one child - no way! Less than 100 here easily.

air sorry to hear things are not so good at the mo

OiMissus · 08/11/2012 21:25

air Xmas doesn't have to be expensive. Hope needs nothing. At all. Neither does DH. All you need to do is get "the thing" for Air. One Christmas, when I was Air's age, or thereabouts, I remember getting the one thing that I really wanted. A Christmas tree of my own (mum bought one that was 2.99 from woolworths). I can't remember what my "big" present was that year. But I remember my Xmas tree to this day. Chin up chuck.
(But don't get quotes for a brick wall - bricks are silly expensive!! It'll only depress you further! - maybe look at concrete slab type things instead if you're looking for something non-flammable.)
You'll get through this. You've survived so far missus, you're made of sterner stuff. Smile

OiMissus · 08/11/2012 21:27

figgy I saw a video from the nappy lady, I think. Making a nappy out of muslins. Stick a maternity pad in there as advised previously and you'll be good to go!
Or something... Good luck!!!!

SpectralMissSpooky · 08/11/2012 21:30

We're sharing a lego advent calendar:o

Boo is unhappy, told him we are not doing a shoebox for school. He's slightly mollified I that I've said we can research a not OCC scheme and do that instead:)

Kids all asleep, so will catch up properly tomorrow:)

Aethelfleda · 08/11/2012 21:54

Figgy, if you can't do the muslin origami get two face flannels, fold them lengthways into three and form a "u shape between baby's legs, put a neoprine swim nappy or a close fitting pair of shorts/trousers over the top and sleep him on a towel. It's simulating a prefold cloth nappy and you can wash it all tomorrow. If you don't have facecloths cut up the oldest towel you own (or a microfibre cleaning cloth!) and use that.

Figgygal · 08/11/2012 23:09

Thanks for tips ladies he's gone to bed in the last nappy, dh missed train now will likely be 2ish before he gets back I've instructed him that unfortunately the local 24 hour Tesco beckons for him. I tried put next door neighbour they have a 2yr old who I expect is n size 5 nappys but they not in tonight so couldn't even ask them to sit in for 10mins while I go out get some, I have a key to their house for cat sitting duties but creeping round their house stealing nappies in the dead of night may be a bit much Grin

I do have swim nappies for morning in a full emergency until we can get to shop if he doesnt get to 24hr shop hopefully it won't come to that.

Am very tired so why can't j sleep?

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 09/11/2012 07:38

Air hope your uncle is okay? As others have said Xmas doesn't need to be expensive, just one present doesn't have to be big that is fine Smile Chin up as your doing so well and you are stronger than you think.

Figgy Hope DH managed to get to Tesco this morning.

It's been a long week. My nan is being discharged from QAH today. She has hardening of the arteries - not quite sure how they deal with that. Apparently medication and slight diet/lifestyle change.

Proud of my Darcie. She has 4 singing gigs coming up 3 at Xmas lights turning on and 1 at Portsmouth Guildhall Grin Her hypermobility is giving her jip at the moment so she's on painkillers and rest.

Sky is doing well. Def think she is teething tho. So calpol is going to be my friend over next few days!

AnAirOfHopeForSnow · 09/11/2012 07:53

I feel bad for posting i dont want to be negative or depress the thread. I will be fine things always work out one way or another.

Regarding dh i know what i was getting into its just happening faster than i thought and want. I love him and hate his condation but i cant cure it so we live with it. As long as he trys and sticks to my rules im fine lol

My uncle is fine just very shaken by it.

Thanks Oi i might leave the wall untill after xmas Grin

Anyway its a great time of year birthdays and xmas is fab with children.

Its a shame we cant put buntings on our posts Grin

MissChristmastRee · 09/11/2012 09:46

Don't feel bad for posting if you're feeling negative or depressed Air. We're not just fair-weather-friends you know - we're here to support you through the tough times too!

seven77 · 09/11/2012 09:53

air don't be daft, it's good to hear from you. Glad your uncle is ok.

DS is being really naughty and horrible, he keeps kicking DD and nothing seems to help, it's making me feel like a bit of a crap mum tbh :(

How many bottles are your LOs having now? DD is still having 4 a day, HV said she should only be having 2 when she's a year old. It isn't affecting her appetite, she eats well and weighs just over 20lb so she isn't overweight. Am I giving her too much (I know it is over the guidelines but does it matter?) or is HV talking nonsense?
