I loved kate's thread name but thought we needed a birthday theme for this one. We'll soon have 6 weeks of birthdays to celebrate!

Aaand relax, it's Saturday night...

AnAirOfHopeForSnow · 24/11/2012 19:48

Offers egg free cake round Wink

MerryChristMoose · 24/11/2012 20:38

Fort McMurray, Northern Alberta. It was -21 yesterday, -31 with the wind chill!

MerryChristMoose · 24/11/2012 20:42

London, Ont is about a day and a half's drive from here!

MissChristmastRee · 24/11/2012 20:53

That's a loooooooong way Grin

Feels like my commute into London is that long sometimes even if it is only 20ish miles Grin

That's a wee bit on the nipple side too Shock brrrrrrrr wrap up warm!

Muffinpig · 25/11/2012 07:39

Grin at nipple side!

Welcome Merry or Moose?! Do you have more or less constant snow on the ground in that temperature?

MissRee so glad that they don't think its anything sinister, have been thinking of you this week.

Air the cake thing would upset me too. ((Hugs))

DSM have you got Sky to take the dairy-free formula yet?

DD is walking really fast with the walker! And she can just about walk holding onto one of my hands. She has this cute but annoying habit of crawling over to the step down onto our slate kitchen floor (ie really hard and unforgiving if she were to fall over on it) then stand up and try and walk down the step. Argh! Have to leave the stairgate up all the time just for that one step! So lovely to see her nearly walking though, especially as DS didn't walk until he was 2.

Muffinpig · 25/11/2012 07:47

We went to meet a family yesterday whose 11yo old son has CP and it was really reassuring to see how he lead a full life and didn't let it define him. He was never bullied or anything either, which is one of my worries for DS. I think a lot depends on the school though. And the boy was really matter of fact about it. DS enjoyed comparing splints with him :)

DD still sleeping well at the moment, hurrah! But I wake up at 4am like clockwork every morning and yesterday didn't get back to sleep, and it took me until 5.30am today. I have a lot of worries on my mind at the moment and they just seem to catch up with me at 4am Sad

Didn't help this morning that I realised at 4am I'd left the heating on all night so had to go and turn it off then was paranoid DD would be too hot so went to fret over her before going back to bed! Of course DH just snores peacefully throughout Hmm

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 25/11/2012 07:59

Muffin 2 days of put dairy-free milk now
Smile so hopefully we will see some change soon.

Hope you manage to sleep past 4am soon x

Aethelfleda · 25/11/2012 10:16

Groan- I slept in. Nice of DH to let me sleep
But there's a squilion things to do and I feel all jetlagged...

Good thing about the CP visit muffin but hope yoi get to avoid early wakeups: they're extremely common when you have stress. Do try to keep an eye on your mood level too hon and male sure you talk to someone if it's making you depressed xx

DSM brownie point for getting Sky to take the dairyfree formula, that stuff smells vile!!!

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 25/11/2012 11:01

Aethel hope you feel refreshed after your lay-in?

Muffin It's sounds like you had a lovely afternoon yesterday Smile

It's taken me a few days to get her onto full dairy-free as was mixing it with her other formula due the fact it smelt and prob tasted vile. She is now used to it Smile

Any other chilaxing day Chez DSM today. Have a good Sunday all x

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 25/11/2012 13:31

Darcie's letter from Santa been sorted. She loved getting it through the post last year Smile

NorthernChinchilla · 25/11/2012 19:54

How's it going with the list aethel?

Hello and welcome to MerryChristmasMoose, and great to add an extra international dimension to the group of crazies thread! It'll be great hearing about the different approaches to stuff in Canada.

So glad to hear about your OH MissRee, that's a relief, although it's total pain when they can't locate what the actual problem is...

Really good weekend here: Xmas shopping officially completed, bar one present I'm going to buy when on my December trip to York, and about 3/4 of DP's present... I've got him a wrap up, but he likes to select his pressie and he hasn't told me what he wants yet. But other than that, we're done Smile
Have also washed seemingly every item of clothing we own plus the bedding from all three beds, got it dried and away.

I'm doing pizza tonight- have made up a big vat of homemade sauce, and went to make the dough to find one of the bloody - unopened, I should add!- bags of flour had gone mouldy!! Bob knows what it'll turn out like, but it may end up being a kind of crisp bread....

DS has been lovely this weekend, all full of belly laughs. We've got his birthday present too, a kind of caterpillar marble and car run from ELC. I may also have spent £8 on a fat, material robin for the tree, but I had to have my one moment of stupidity Grin!

OiMissus · 25/11/2012 20:55

Hey up ladies, and Willkommen to moose! I'm currently in Germany.
I got home from France on Friday night after he had gone to bed.Sad I had A Saturday full of tight squeezes and clingy cuddles Grin, but have abandoned him again thus morning to get here.
Thankfully it's just for one night.
Can I offer around some choccies? I have a great selection. I got 4 boxes for my birthday, and the frenchies gave us all special fancy boxes last week. Please eat them!
I ate so much last week. It was marvellous. Cheese cheese and more cheese. On the Thursday night my stomach was soooo big, and hard - it stuck out like a step under my bra, it looked and felt like I was 7 months pregnant again. Not good. (Great if I was pg, but otherwise not good!)
Congratulations to figgyboy on his first steps!
And to you missree for getting the almost all clear for your DH.
BOi is great at going upstairs , muffin, but can't seem to accept the idea of climbing down backwards. He climbs down backwards off the bed and the sofa, he's just about got that now, but he wants to go downstairs face-first. This is another thing that falls into the "not good" category!
Otherwise he's doing very well at walking. He still half walks/ half crawls everywhere, but he may be fully upright by his birthday (10th).
I called home earlier and got a "Hiya!", he doesn't always do it to order, so I am blessed!
He's had a horrid cough for the last 10 days, poor chap.Sad
I've missed the thread for the last week, so I apologise if I've missed anything that should be noted/name checked.

  • I know what I wanted to ask - where would you recommend I should start to find a part-time nanny? Do you know any reliable/credible sources?
(I hope you're munching away through those chocolates! If not, I'll have to take them into the office).
MerryChristMoose · 25/11/2012 21:44

We've had snow of varying depth since mid October. The roads are ploughed and sanded (too cold for salt), so everything goes crappy and then freezes solid. It will be like this until March/April.

Despite two nights of crying and fist in mouth, Harrison still has no teeth. He's trying to master climbing down stairs, which I'm finding terrifying. His "no" is now much more determined and comes complete with a shake if the head. He's also pointing to things he wants, which are usually electronic and expensive.

AnAirOfHopeForSnow · 25/11/2012 21:45

Hope is one tomoro. I final finished her cake its on my profile. Gifts wraps cards done and meal booked. Just getting Airs school clothes ready for tomoro and i can go to bed.

OiMissus · 25/11/2012 21:50

Btw I'm in Germany because I'm making a video of our facility here. The crew I've hired are from Denmark. At dinner this evening, they were talking about some of the stuff they've done, and apparently Cliff Richard is a really nice guy (and has a blue tennis court at home, so it looks like a pool from an aeroplane Wink) But the assassin in Mexico was pure evol. (Yikes!)

OiMissus · 25/11/2012 21:54

I get much pointing and grunting. But he doesn't say "no" yet. He is very good at ignoring "no!" too. Sad
However, if you say it quite often, it seems to invoke a mini-tantrum. BOi likes his own way. BOi better start liking my way!
I like his way best. He's bigger than me Blush

LittleMissFlustered · 25/11/2012 23:06

Sorry I'm being a bit weird still.

Today I failed to go my hair right:o

Any decent college/school hockey near you?

Happy birthday to Hope for tomorrow, her cake looks very pretty .Air

MerryChristMoose · 26/11/2012 02:45

Hello LittleMissFlustered we have a junior hockey league team in town, the Oil Barons. They're very well supported. They have a lottery every year to win a dream home worth about $1.5 million. It's always a sell out.

There have been a few things about raising babies here that have surprised me aside from the basics like diapers and pacifiers. Midwives are very rare. I didn't meet my OB until I was 36 weeks. We have one hospital for 130,000 people. There are 3 OBs and around 200 babies born every month. If you're earlier than 37 weeks you get flown to Edmonton which is 500km away. Theyre a bit c-section happy here. There's a 1 in 13 chance of having one.

I'm just finding out that the words and tunes of nursery rhymes are not the same. The bus goes all through the town, not all day long. It's Itsy Bitsy spider rather than Incy Wincy. I tend to stay quiet for the first verse and then join in when I'm a bit more sure of the words and tune!

Good job with the cake Air. May you and Hope have a lovely day.

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 26/11/2012 06:37

Happy Birthday to Hope Smile

Your cake looks fantastic Air I'm not quite skilled enough for that!

Oi Hope your trip to Germany isn't to bad.

Back to nursery for Sky today. Although I personally would love to stay wrapped up in my duvet when I see the shitty horrible weather.

Muffinpig · 26/11/2012 07:19

DD has a bit of a temp (38) but no other symptoms. She's meant to be doing her first full day at CM today, I guess I have to cancel don't I? Seems a bit hot just for teething. She slept just in pyjamas and gave her calpol but that hasn't brought the temp down much.

Happy Birthday Hope!

Figgygal · 26/11/2012 07:24

Happy birthday hope well done on the cake!!

DS loves the stairs he shoots up them but now wants to bump down them holding your hands he crawls over to top of stairs, sits on his bum and puts his hands up for u to hold them while he bumps down which is all very cute until he goes without me one day and does himself an injury Sad our stair gate won't go on the banister at top so it's across his room door instead may have to reconsider that when he's older!!

DS babbles all the time but doesn't really say words except ta and dada still, je hates no especially when turning the tv off or slapping the fish tank he throws huge tantrums which usually involve him smacking his face off the wooden floor either intentionally or unintentionally dread the terrible twos!!!

Right hair still wet must get ready for work!!

LittleMissFlustered · 26/11/2012 08:28

Plague house here. Squidge has had spiking temp all night to go with her aching joints and tiredness. I'm not saying flu, but if she were a man she would >_< Boo's temp is skating at just under 38° and he has a headache. Octoboy just spewed down my arm.

Monday can jog on!

CheungFun · 26/11/2012 11:02

Morning everyone & welcome MerryChristMoose :)

Air the cake looks amazing! Hope things are a bit easier at home now?

I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday when DS lobbed his food across the kitchen floor for the millionth time :( Luckily DH was there and took DS so I could get the cleaning up done and de-stress! Feeling more calm this morning!
