I hope they are as good as the last 6!

MB - She hasn't bitten me yet! She has two teeth through on the bottom, they're really sharp! She's bit my finger so I am not looking forward to when she does bite me when I'm feeding! I cant feel them when she is feeding, I am under the same belief as you where the tongue covers the teeth, but I guess time will tell!!

Ref pregnancy - I am thinking of taking a test just to put my mind at rest. I am having huge cravings for things that I did when pregnant, such as spring rolls etc. No AF here either. I can eat meat and veg though which I couldn't when pregnant. I hope I'm not!! Will buy a test tomorrow and see!

mawbroon · 08/04/2006 13:56

LOL Elf. I've just done one and guess what?????

I'm not pg Grin

It's funny how the mind plays tricks though Shock

morningpaper · 08/04/2006 15:15

Hello all, just checking in. It's so weird reading the 'first time mummies' talking about baby's moods and what's going on in such detail - with two it's all a blue and I don't really have time to think about what 'mood' she is in!

Everything is going well though.

Summary:

  1. We have two teeth
  2. I have LOTS of teeth marks on my nipples Angry
  3. I'm going to start making an effort with solids this week
  4. She has started nursery for 2 mornings a week and is settling in REALLY well (and so I am working - yay!) although she has not learnt to use a bottle yet! But she has done a painting!?!?!
  5. She goes to sleep at 7 and wakes a few times in the evenings needing cuddles to settle back down, and usually wakes at 10pm, 2am and 6am for feeds - gets up for the day at 7. Writing this down makes me realise that she's basically feeding every 3 hours during the night but it doesn't really bother me!
  6. She can sit up! and is generally as cute as a button
morningpaper · 08/04/2006 15:16

that should say "with two it's all a BLUR"

oh and I forgot

  1. there is no way I am pregnant unless my name is Mary and have received a joyous visitation by the archangel Gabriel
SusiS · 08/04/2006 21:40

mp i hope your gabriel was worth it Wink
seems like your little girl is coming along really nice. ouch at the nipple front!

no teeth here just yet. but sitting is getting better by the day - 80% there i guess.

and i so agree: with 2 it's just a struggle through the day really.
solids are not going too well really. but mainly because she was quite ill the last few days :( - high temp, no appetite.
so i guess we'll have to start all over again 'grmpf'

nights are not too bad really. she goes to bed 6-7pm wakes briefly at 2ish (dummy and stroking her head puts her back to sleep) - then at 5ish (mostly dummy helps again. sometimes she'll have an oz very diluted formula) - so here's hoping now she's better that she sleeps through the 2 o clock wake up call!

Piggiesmum · 08/04/2006 22:38

oh blimey. I've been away so long there's a whole new thread.

Elf - thats such a cute piccie :o. Wow two teeth already.

MB - I think Johnny and ds could be twins lol. Everything you say about him is so spot on, same weight gain, feeding times, double chin, teething and a mum who's stubbornly trying to hang on till 26 weeks to wean.

MG - I know what you mean about rescueing them when they are whineing. Sometimes it's so hard to leave them to it but so satisfying when they finally figure something out by themselves.

MP - ouch at the teeth marks Shock

Well we had a great weekend at the IL's. The only dodgy bit was when MIL gave us some chocolate buttons for ds "because he's too young for an Easter Egg" but dh got round that issue by saying "We haven't even started weaning him yet. Piggiesmum will have to eat them haha"
We went out for a meal with dh's family on Fri and Sat night and ds was sooooo good. He slept through most of it, through all the noise etc in the restaurants, both nights, and when he wasn't asleep he just sat happily in his buggy looking round and taking everything in. MIL is besotted with grandkids so she had him at every opportunity which meant I could have a couple of lovely lie-ins. Ah bliss.

This week my parents came to stay with us a few days. We live 5+ hr drive away from everyone so they don't get to see ds very often. If we go out anywhere I have no chance, mum had him in the baby carrier when we had to use that and dad clings onto the buggy as if he's glued to it and pushes ds everywhere, even mum doesn't get a look-in with the buggy lol.

Ds seemed to have taken a leap forward in the last couple of weeks. He has started rolling over regularly (rather than every few days), and is happy on his front now he's getting there on his own. It seems really wierd but it seemed to happen overnight. He is grabbing stuff, passing it from hand to hand, putting it down on his own and generally playing with stuff himself without me having to help him all the time. Still no signs of sitting up on his own yet or sleeping through the night. We are planning to move him into his own room in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to miss him so much (sob).

Poor little fella is struggling with his teeth though. He's fine during the day but gets really tired at 5.00 and will not sleep at all. He gets so close, his eyes shut and then he jerks awake and cries and stuffs his fist in his mouth to chew. I'm giving him calpol but not sure whether it's having much effect :(. After two hours of this, he'll take a feed at 7.00, be bright and alert till about 8.00 and then go to sleep almost straight away!

Piggiesmum · 08/04/2006 22:39

oops, waffled on a bit there Grin

Elf1981 · 09/04/2006 08:07

Last night Evie was in her room asleep when she started to whine. I got up to see how she was, DH said "leave her for a min, she'll settle back down."
I think I managed half a minute before I went in to see how she was, she was crying because she'd rolled over onto her tummy in her sleep and couldn't work out how to get back!!
Managed to settle her by rocking her for a minute and she slept through til this morning. Kept calling DH a meanie though!

MB - hopefully I'll be saying the same thing later today about the test!!
PM - isn't it funny how you dont get a look in with your own child when the family are around? I went to town with my mum and sisters, and I had to limit them to pushing the pram one shop each as they were bickering as to who was going to push!

nervousmum · 09/04/2006 10:22

Wish us luck - we're transferring Joey into his own room for the first time tonight! I always said he would be in with us till he was 6 months old, and he'll be 28 weeks tomorrow, so it's time. I'm going to miss having him in our room. My little boy's growing up so fast!

Elf1981 · 09/04/2006 14:01

And the results are in.....

not pregnant!

Woohoo!

Isn't it amazing how your AF is either your best friend or worst enemy?! Dunno where she is hiding esp as I dont breastfeed or express past eight at night, but at least I know it's not because I am pregnant! 'Cause I'm not!!

Elf1981 · 09/04/2006 14:03

Good luck NM about putting Joey in his own room. We put Evie in at five months (DH wanted her settled before I went back to work, one upheaval at a time he said) and she actually sleeps better in her own room than she did in ours. Not got me tossing and turning or DH watching telly to wake her up.

Yokefleet · 09/04/2006 21:24

NM Hope all goes well for you tonight!

We've been up to Yorkshire for the weekend so will catch up with the thread properly tomorrow.

Yokefleet · 10/04/2006 07:30

NM Well how did it go?? Smile
elf & mb Congratulations on the negative test (I was so relieved too!!) Grin
pm the grandparents taking over sounds just like mine too (I'm sure that Thomas saves the best smiles for me and dh though!! Wink)
susis how is your lo today? feeling better I hope. Thomas has been off his bottles for the last few days but has still taken solids, so I have given him loads of porridge cos at least there is some milk in there.
mg lol at the "20 bags well 4!!" sounds like a regular trip out for us
mp I don't Envy the teeth marks!!!!!!!!!
jb I don't Envy you trying to sell your house, we were trying to let ours when ds was 3months and when we had someone for a viewing I would go to my parents flat and my dad (who owned the house) would go in and tidy it and show people around! I think I would have scared everybody away

OP posts:
nervousmum · 10/04/2006 12:40

Don't ask! It was an absolute disaster! I put Joey down in his room at 9.15pm post feed (ie. usual bed time). At 9.45pm i got up to him, as he was screaming his head off. Then again at 11pm, then again at half past midnight, when we gave up and put him in our bedSad

Trouble is, we spent all of yesterday moving furnature to get him into his room, so just giving up and moving him back in with us is not an option. I've already said i'll have to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor in Joey's new room tonight, as DP is working tomorrow and obviously needs sleep. I don't understand why he was so unsettled last night - it's not like it's a new cot or anything?!?

Also, got to go back to the GP this afternoon, as my nips are still really sore and red, and the right one now has an open weepy sore on it! Sorry for the long post, hope everyone else is ok. NM x

Elf1981 · 10/04/2006 12:59

NM - have you tried "white noise" in Joey's room?

nervousmum · 10/04/2006 13:59

No, but after last night, i'm prepared to give anything a try! Just ordered some blackout curtains for his room, so i can eliminate the possibility of light waking him up. Trying to sort through all the miscellaneous baby paraphenalia and find a home for everything in his new room - how did a 6 month old accumulate so much?!?

Yokefleet · 10/04/2006 17:52

NM sorry to hear that it didn't go well last night. Does Joey sometimes just have an odd bad night now and again or is this really unusual for him?
My parents have got my 2.7 month old neice staying with them for a week or so, we took her and Thomas a play area on the beach this morning and Thomas had his first go on the swings and he loved it Grin after about 10 mins though, he looked like he was going to fall asleep! very soothing I think! My niece isn't toilet trainned yet, my parents are going to try this week with her, what is the usual age for doing this my dad thinks she should have been trained ages ago?
I am going to have my neice all day Wednesday on my own with Thomas whilst my parents go to a funeral [panic emoticon needed here I think] Blush get the feeling it is going to be a very long day.
rtl are you back to work yet?

OP posts:
nervousmum · 10/04/2006 19:26

He does sometimes have bad nights, i think we just picked one yesterday! Here's hoping for a better one tonight...[fingers crossed emoticon]

Found out what's wrong with my nips - despite any obvious evidence, Joey has a touch of oral thrush and he's 'kindly' transferred it to me! NM x

Yokefleet · 11/04/2006 08:13

NM Hope that you had a better night with Joey. Smile
Bad night here Thomas woke at 2.30, 3, 3.50 and I finally brought him into our bed at 5.15 in the hope that dh would be able to get some more sleep Sad Thomas has now been up and smiling since 6.40!!

OP posts:
mawbroon · 11/04/2006 08:54

NM - I hope that your nipples heal up quickly now that (presumably) you and Joey have been given something for it. I had to give Johnny thrush medicine when he was around 5 weeks. It was cherry flavour and you should have seen his eyes light up every time I took the bottle out!! Hopefully Joey gave you a better night last night.

YF - Hope you make it through the day ok. I bet you're knackered!

MG - DH is billingual and has dual nationality. He has spent almost equal time in each country at school and work, but he definitely feels more Scottish than Dutch and has said that he would much rather live here than there so I don't see us ever moving there. There are many things about Holland that I like, but whether I would like to live there is a different matter all together.

We had a not too bad night last night. Johnny went down no bother at 7pm but he woke at 9.20pm and it took an hour of feeding and cuddles to get him back to sleep, but on the plus side, he slept until 7am, so I had a full nights sleep and because he had fed in the evening, I wasn't full to bursting in the boob department. I have started putting him in clothes rather than sleepsuits all day now. This is only because I got a huge bag of clothes from my SIL. They are 3 - 6 months and they are still a bit big for him, but they do fit nicely over his big terry nappy bum! I must say he's pretty cute in the clothes though Grin

Yokefleet · 11/04/2006 09:28

mb yes knackered this morning!! Do you think Johnny looks older now you are dressing him? we started putting ds in clothes 2 weeks ago now (before we had him in sleepsuits unless it was a special occasion) and he just looks so grown up and long! very very long Grin
nm Joey is going to be one of lifes little sharers! Wink

OP posts:
mawbroon · 11/04/2006 10:55

Lol YF. yes, I think he looks sooo grown up and also much bigger! The socks are starting to annoy me although i have a set of five pairs which stay on great. Johnny only gets one shot at clothes if we are out though. I only carry sleepsuits as emergency sick/poo/slaver replacements as I am not humphing an entire wardrobe around for him!

I was at the docs this morning and asked if there was anything I could take to stop me going up and down for days after the ferry crossing to and from Holland. All the seasickness type things are contra indicated with breastfeeding, so I'll just have to get on with it. Last time was quite bad, I was staggering all over the place as though I'd had a few too many for over a week after we got home. Perhaps I should drink a lot and it might even itself out WinkGrin blimey thats 14 months now without a drop of alcohol...

Elf1981 · 11/04/2006 12:36

I think all our babies got together and said they were all going to wake up last night!
Put Evie down as usual, she woke at 11:00 for a feed, then murmured throughout the night (moaned for a minute or so but then fell back asleep)

morningpaper · 11/04/2006 13:28

I'm keeping baby in with me for a good while yet - I CANNOT be arsed to get out of bed in the night and it's so easy tucking her under my arm when she's awake/cold - basically MY sleep is the most important thing and keeping her with me means I get the most/better sleep because I don't really have to wake up properly. I still have to go in at least twice a night to the three year-old so I'm keeping the baby next to me for the forsesable future or I'll just be spending all night padding up and down the hall!!!

nervousmum · 11/04/2006 18:04

Joey went down at 9pm last night, and bar a six minute feed at 4.30am, he slept through till 8 this morningSmile

Only thing is, he wasn't in his cot, again!!!Grin We tried, and failed, so gave up. Still, at least we all had a good night's sleep.

Have sorted my shifts for when i have to go back to work today - i go back from the 10th June, and i'll be doing 4 x 6.5 hour shifts a week, instead of the previous 3 x 11.5 hour shifts pre-pregnancy. It means quite a drop in pay, but i'd rather have the time to be with my son, and it means DP and i should be able to work childcare between us, which will save money. Everyone was cooing over Joey, and all i could think was "i'm dreading coming back"! Roll on a lottery win between now and then! NM x
