morning all, hope you are all ok? will try and go back and catch up on the thread shortly. My bad year is continuing Sad on Friday my sisters dh left her (she is in Yorkshire and we are in Wales) came completely out of the blue for my sis, she seems to be getting her head around it and is now not feeling quite so devastated and is trying to keep practiacal for her dd who is 2.7. Her h thought she might decide to move near to us but she said that she couldn't take dd away from him, we told her that she had to put herself and dd 1st for a change (he would drop everything to see his mates or go on a bike rally, never really grow up. he is 29 and acts like a 17 yr old without responsiblities) she spoke to him about moving nearer us and he doesn't see that as a problem, so some good might come out of all of this mess. We are driving up to Yorkshire tomorrow night to see her for a long weekend as my dh has booked a week off, can't wait to give her a cuddle!
Sorry for long post will try to catch up with all your news now! Wink

NM - you go and kick some ass! Grin Good luck.

Another lovely sunny day here. Johnny and I had a fab time in the garden yesterday. He sat in the backpack whilst I pottered in the greenhouse, watered the seeds, hung out the washing etc etc. Hopefully we can do the same again today when he wakes from his nap.

We have started to do some baby signing. I feel a bit silly doing it, but I will love it if he cottons on to it.

I think I might be a closet lentil weaver.Shock
Bf past 6 months, cloth nappies, backpack, baby signing, BLW, growing my own veggies.... Shock

But I look so NORMAL....Grin

Elf1981 · 28/04/2006 10:23

wow MB hows the baby signing going? Are you using any particular books / teaching guides, or did you know signing previously?
My friend started this with her DD2, as her DS (now adopted out the family, but thats another story) is deaf. For a good while, her DD2 would do a lot of signing, but it seems to have fallen down the wayside now. DH wants to teach Evie to sign, and its something I always wanted to learn (always wanted to learn another language).

mawbroon · 28/04/2006 10:32

LOL Elf - we only started signing yesterday!! I bought the sing and sign vocab book as a starting point but have only managed to learn a dozen or so signs! DH is billingual and I hope that using the signing in both languagues might help Johnny grasp the concept of things having more than one name. I hope you feel better soon. Bummer on a Bank hol weekend too Sad

tjacksonpfc · 28/04/2006 11:17

thanks yorkfleet

nervousmum · 28/04/2006 18:01

Well, the meeting went semi-successfully. My boss has begrudgingly agreed to me going back and doing 2 night shifts and one early shift per week for the first 3 months of returning, but will then insist on me going back to long days (8am - 8.30pm) from that point. However, i'm only contractually obliged to them for 3 months (so i don't have to pay back my maternity pay!), then i can leave, so i've got 3 months of doing the shifts i want then i will resign and get a more child-flexible job anyway! I'm just glad it's over - it's been really stressing me out. Hopefully i can enjoy our holiday to Zante in Greece next week now!

mawbroon · 28/04/2006 19:34

Oh that's good news NM. I hope that the three months fly by for you. Sounds like you need your holiday! I hope you enjoy yourself.

MBSmile

RedTartanLass · 29/04/2006 12:54

Hiya tjacksonpfc, how on earth do you say your name Grin don’t think your ds is the only one not sitting up. Impressed by the nearly crawling though!!

Nm Angry for you about work, what a load of crap, you just don’t need that sort of agro when you’re on maternity leave. Great news, have a brill holiday

Elf – Angry about pay-rise, our bonusus are decided next month not expecting anything.

MB – I’ll catch with you on MSN, about September Grin We did singing with ds2, it was brill. I nearly burst in to tears in Tesco once, when he saw a wee toy and signed CAT. I said “No it’s a dog, but it looks a little bit like a cat”. Then realised I was conversing with an 11 month old!! Absolutely Amazing!!

Yorkefleet – yes, back at work, only took a week off, as rash had scabbed over. Sorry TMI. I obviously had it for a couple of weeks before!!

nervousmum · 30/04/2006 10:11

Joey just had his first-ever slice of toast! (cut up, obviouslyGrin) Most of it ended up crumbled in bits around the high chair, but he seemed to really enjoy the bits that actually went in his mouth! (also his first time of self-feeding too, rather than me just spooning gloop into himSmile)

Hope everyone's having a good bank holiday weekend, catch up in a fortnight when we get back from Greece. NM x

RedTartanLass · 01/05/2006 08:03

NM hope you're having a brill time Envy

We're a quiet bunch at the moment? Are the 6 months not sleeping as much as they used to Grin DD hasdecided she only wants milk again, I think it's because she has another wee tooth coming through - 7th!! Only thing is, I'm sure her first 2 teeth are slightly discoloured on the tips - a different colour white. IYSWIM Has anyone heard of that before? Do you think it's because her teeth came through so early?

mawbroon · 01/05/2006 08:43

Things are going fine here. We spent virtually all weekend outside. Johnny was eating outside in his highchair too. Makes for no stress about the mess!! I seem to have a banana boy here. He wolfed down a whole one almost unaided this morning and instead of sucking on it like he did last week, he's biting huge chunks out of it, but seems to be able to deal with them. Shock Most other foods just get sucked on without a lot of it getting eaten. Saying that, he did manage to suck and then swallow a piece of cooked chicken. I am making meatloaf today so I will keep back some of the mince and make him little patties to see how he copes with them.

I gave him his first row yesterday. Sad OK, I only said "Johny, no" in a firm voice when he was pulling my hair whilst sitting in the backpack, but I felt like a cruel mummy. I can see now that things are being deliberately flung away rather than being dropped through lack of co-ordination, so I suppose this is the start of it. It is so true that they don't stay babies for long Sad

RTL - I've never heard of that re the teeth. Are you worried or just curious? I'm sure your dentist might be able to reassure you if you were worried.

Elf1981 · 01/05/2006 09:40

I know what you mean about telling babies off. Evie has been pulling at my hair a lot recently, I say "Evie, let go of mummies hair" but eventually I have to pull my hair away and say "No!" She's also started grabbing glasses and has bit me a few times when breastfeeding (ouch emoticon!). I say "No!" and stop feeding for a minute or so. The first time she looked a bit bemused. I have found the biting has stopped though. Still makes me feel evil for saying no.

She's also truly mastered rolling over now. She'd done it a few times but this past few days, after putting her on her back, she'll automatically roll over. Great fun to watch, lots of clapping from people who haven't seen it, but very difficult to put her nappy on! My two sisters were going to attempt putting one on her while she was behind held up yesterday Grin

mawbroon · 02/05/2006 09:21

I need matchsticks for my eyes today. Johnny woke at 9pm, 10.30pm 12.15am, 1.30am and 4am. I gave in at 4am and just took him into bed with me. Normally he would feed in bed then go to sleep, but I am pretty sure that he sucked non stop from 4am until 7am. I think his teeth are bothering him and he just wanted some comfort. I wish they would just come through. He's been dribbling since he was three months old and there are still no teeth to show for it! I gave him a rice cake to chew on this morning and he seemed happy enough to gnaw on that. DH tried a rice cake yesterday for the first time ever. He took a bite and then started howling with laughter that they pass for food!!

Elf1981 · 02/05/2006 12:56

aw, MB, heres hoping those teeth come through quickly.
Did you see the tip board re making ice lollies out of breast / formula milk for babies? You could make an ice lolly out of b.milk which should go some way to help soothe those gums.

My CM is on holiday for the next two and a bit weeks, Evie is with my sister today. App she wasn't very happy this morning, but from the pics my sister has just sent, she seems to have cheered up :)

mawbroon · 02/05/2006 13:05

LOL Elf. I'm a lazy mummy!! I also would hate to see my precious EBM lolly getting dropped on the floor. I would run it under the tap, but I would still lose some.

Having had a terrible night, Johnny has been remarkably good today and has just gone down for his after lunch nap. My sister in the states got to see him on the webcam today which was nice. For some reason it is hilarious when a baby tries to eat a webcam and you get a view of the tonsils!! Grin

Elf1981 · 03/05/2006 06:25

Just gone in to check on Evie, she's asleep on her tummy!!

MB - I wont make breastmilk lollies as it would take me days to get enough milk. I express 15oz in a day but that's her milk for the next day, so I'd be in for a long slog trying to do a b.milk lollie. DH suggested a tiny amount of baby juice with water which I may try in the summer.

(Evie licked my magnum ice-cream the other day, her face was a picture of delight!)

mawbroon · 03/05/2006 08:43

I've gone for the wet washcloth in the fridge to chew on for his gums but since I put the cloth in there, he hasn't had any bother with them.

I am going to the optician this afternoon and don't have anyone to watch Johnny so I'll have to take him in with me. I won't be in for long as I am just getting my contact lenses checked as I am a new wearer so I hope he doesn't howl the place down Blush
