I want three and time is marching on as I will be 35 this year. So I should really get my skates on....

nervousmum · 21/08/2006 09:01

Elf - still no house sale! We've only had 3 viewings in the last 4 weeks, and i'm sure the last lot only came round for a free babysitting service (by me!) whilst DP showed them round then they had the cheek to say it was too expensive! What they actually meant was that their house was on sale for 20 grand less than ours. So why look then, FFS?!? AARRGGHH!!!

Joey's cut 2 more teeth He was being a bit grumpy on Saturday, bit my finger, and i soon found out why! He's now got his top ones through, so we're up to a grand total of 4

Hope Everyone's ok, NM x

Has any one elses LO said any words yet? Johnny has had a fascination with the light for a couple of weeks and when he looks at it he waves his hand as if he is trying to make the sign for light. Today, he looked at it, and completely unprompted said "tight". It might have been my imagination, but it did seem pretty clear. I don't know why I am so surprised by this. I must think that I am still looking after a wee helpless bundle rather than a 10 month old boy!

Johnny seems to have cut back on what he's eating. For the last couple of weeks, he has hardly been able to shovel the food in quick enough but this morning and at tea time last night he hardly ate anything at all. I wonder if his last growth spurt has finished. He seems to be dribbling and doing funny things with his mouth so maybe it's sore in there from teething and he doesn't really fancy eating. He is still bfing loads though so I'm really not worried about it. I just hope it's not the start of fussy eating. We have adopted a strategy where the food is put in front of him and then taken away when he's finished without comment. This is in the hopes that he doesn't eat for praise or not eat for attention. We talk at mealtimes but not about the food, other than telling him what it is. I'm probably completely barking up the wrong tree here but it's worth a try!

hello

lots has been happening hey! promotions, inspections and growing babes. wonderful.

yes words - stells says beedy the name of our cat and looks for him (or chases him!) - she also says baby when she sees a photo of one and dadda when she sees him indoors. but light is VERY impressive MB!! i am of course wishing for anything approximating mamma but then we all have our egos to bear don't we!!

we have been mainly finding out about new playgroups and noodling about together. she seems to be going through a separation anxiety phase and grizzles if I leave a room or just follows me everywhere. anyone else had something similar? now we've got four teeth two top and two bottom and finally after a month her virus is packing up and leaving the lass alone.

wondering if any of you have given nuts in feeding yet - any thoughts?

birthday - yes a tea party and fizz i think and lovley folk to spend it with of course - but i'll be kicking everyone out at 5 so the gal can chill her boots. MMx

Elf1981 · 23/08/2006 06:53

Evie says "mam" "da-da" and "no". The no s repeated when the CM says it when she is pulling all the CDs from the CD rack! It makes it hard to tell her off!

Isn't it funny what their first words are! Of all the words they could say in the world and they pick x, y or z.

Nuts - not tried them yet. DH has discovered that Evie loves crackers! She seems to eat loads of different things, just not tried nuts or eggs yet.

Oh and for those who breastfed & got their A/F's back - were they really irratic?

nervousmum · 24/08/2006 09:25

I stopped BF mid-May, and my AF's are still really erratic! Sometimes it'll be 3.5 weeks, others it'll be 6-7 weeks (prompting the purchase of PG tests!!). Although, i wasn't always totally regular pre being pregnant either! (but it wasn't this bad)

mawbroon · 24/08/2006 10:22

I am sooo not looking forward to getting my AF back. I was on Depo injections for 4 years before ttc which got rid of them completely, so I've only had around a dozen or so in the last 7 years! Very good for the environment

How many dirty nappies are your wee ones doing just now? Johnny seems to have a stinker in almost every nappy except the one Daddy does at bathtime. And boy, they stink!! I suppose if I was eating as much fruit and veg (relatively) as he is, I would have rather a lot going on down there too.

Oh I got my registration certificate through the post today so I am allowed to start childminding!! We are going on holiday at the beginning of September so I will start once I get back from that. Eeek

mozarellamamma · 24/08/2006 12:21

congrats MB - you're off. how will you get your first wee babes recruited? by the way was considering getting a backpack but do you think that once they get to over 20lbs it's too heavy - you are after all the lady hill rambler...

on the poo front stells usually poops twice a day in the am and in the late pm. she even comes to find me and prefers to stand up whilst grunting. lovely. am thinking of getting started on a v slow toilet training programme as the baby whisperer is a fan of an early start - what does everyone else plan to do?

i'm now on cerazette so apart from random break through bleeds i'm not having a period (sorry don't know all the anacronyms here). would have liked to have my coil put back in but told that after a c-section it's best to let all the deep healing happen first. also advised to wait 18 months before trying again tho have to admit unlike everyone else on our thread I've no broodiness again whatsoever (mind you it took til i was 28 before i even decided i wanted children - before i didn't - how things change).

i'd like to get a cracking toy for stells birthday are there any you've heard really good things about? MM

morningpaper · 24/08/2006 12:26

too much to read

just to say that they are at SUCH a fabulous age

I LOVE this bit - when they are much more happy in themselves and SO lovely and chubby

enjoy your babies

mawbroon · 25/08/2006 09:27

Hi MP. You are so right about that!

Johnny seems to have discovered that he can close his eyes at will rather than just when blinking, sleeping etc. He spent most of yesterday looking at me and then closing his eyes. It was sooo funny and cute.

MM - I really don't know about a backpack for you. Johnny is over 20lbs and although I can still go out and about for over an hour with him, I have been carrying him since he was around 7 weeks so I have built up the stamina. It really depends how fit and strong you are I suppose. My DH will be able to carry him for a lot longer than me and the backpack is ok up to 40lbs. I can just imagine me crawling along with a 40lb Johnny on my back because I'm too stubborn to get a buggy. On the subject of the coil, I was told that it was ok 8 weeks after a section. But I can't have one anyway as I have a bicornuate uterus. Bummer, because it was what I wanted instead of this stupid mini pill.

I am going bra shopping today. I have been in every shop locally looking for a t shirt bra to wear under my outfit for these various weddings etc that I am going to. Life was easy when I was an A cup but I can't get one in my DD size (I was an E before Johnny started solids ). So, I have to go to Edinburgh. A day trip just to buy a bra. It's ridiculous. I don't fancy getting one online just in case it doesn't fit. I thought about trying to squeeze myself into my old one but I couldn't get it fastened!! Then I had visions of the hideous blocked ducts that I would probably get, never mind the ridiculous shape I would be in a badly fitting bra.

I think it's nearly time to start putting Johnny in the big bath. He has a little toy boat which he now flings over the side of the baby bath on purpose. Then he leans over the end of the bath to reach for it. The edge of the baby bath is under his armpits and the rest of his body is floating in the water. He goes to all this effort, gets his boat back and then flings it over again. He has obviously learned that we don't play the picking up game, so he has to do it himself.... We are so cruel, he'll be going up the chimneys next.

mozarellamamma · 25/08/2006 10:47

MB thanks for the tip. Just keen to see how you were experiencing 20lbs plus. I think I'm pretty fit and strong what with all the horses I ride and all their saddles etc I scoot about. Mind I do have a cracked back from a riding accident many moons ago - but tis all worth a try. We too 'wore' our babe with the huggababy sling and Native carrier from the start and still use the bjorn again active but it's starting to pull on the lumbar. Interesting you were told 8 weeks re c section my obstetrician was very firm on the 18 months and said that that's how long it takes to genuinely heal. But that's the medical establishment for you! I think there's different advice between scotland and england too - my mate lives in edinburgh and her hv said starting to wean at 4 months was fine whilst here it's 6 months on...

Bras - i really loved getting a whole new set enjoy it. I also treated myself to a glass of fizz after in the selfridges bar! MM

nervousmum · 25/08/2006 20:19

Argh, afternoon from hell! Just had to put an over-tired, over-stimulated, hyperactive baby to bed (with some difficulty!) post a visit from MIL!

Cup Q - Joey was exclusively BF till he was 8 months old, then i switched him to formula from a bottle. I'm now trying to move him onto a cup given that he's 11 months old, with not much luck! I've tried a Doidy cup and an ordinary plastic beaker which Joey just cheerfully flings everywhere, and i've tried various cups with teats (hard and soft) which he just chews and gets frustrated with! Any tips? (incidentally, he was like this at first with bottles. It cost me a small fortune to finally find one that he would drink from! Don't know where he gets his awkwardness from)

Elf1981 · 25/08/2006 20:31

know what you mean about the cups!
We struggled getting Evelyn onto a bottle for the expressed milk, cost me a fortune!
Same with cups! We brought a load, wasted a load of money. Eventually we had to start with Tommee Tipee beaker thingies which were easy to get water out of, then gradually build up to another type which the name escapes me at the moment! I think it is a tommee tippee again but one you can turn over without getting soaked!!

Elf1981 · 25/08/2006 20:32

we also gave her water out of one of those plastic cups you get in vending machines! She drinks really well from that, think it gave her an idea how to do it all!

Yokefleet · 26/08/2006 18:50

Hope you are all well, dh is has been on holiday for the last week so I haven't had much time to post/catch up. Thomas started the week waking at around 6am (we usually wake him at 6.30 to take dh to the station for work) and each day he has got later and later resulting in a wonderful lay in for the last two days until 8AM
Good boy! Dh is off next week too so we will see what happens then.
It is my 2nd wedding anniversary today so we have had a nice family lunch out and Thomas has now gone to bed so I am quickly typing this and then we are going to have a chilling evening in front of XFactor.
DH saw my post the other day saying that I would probably choose to start trying for another baby later then we were planning and has said that's ok with him (he didn't want to be an old dad but says another year or so isn't going to make that much difference)
oh and we use a Tommee Tippee beaker for water was called something like "kids on the go" its blue with fishes on (free flowing with no handles on that one) the other one we sometimes use is yellow with two handles on and a green spout that needed ds to suck/chow on, again a Tommee one but no idea what it was called as we didn't buy it, we have been happy with both.
Must go as dh and the sofa are calling me.......

Thanks for the tips re cups. I shall have to get Joey in training!

Well, the In-Laws have gone home today, yay! And my little man was very well behaved at a formal family lunch today - we'd bought him a new booster seat high chair and he sat in that quite happily having his lunch and playing with his toys for an entire 3 course meal! I was so proud, especially when everyone commented on how good he was NM x

nervousmum · 27/08/2006 20:24

Oh, and happy anniversary Yokefleet. Hope you had a lovely evening

Yokefleet · 28/08/2006 17:25

Thanks NM - lovely evening

Thomas has today got tooth number 9 and I don't think number 10 is far behind! I wonder how many teeth Redtartanlass's little one has now as her lo had lots very early.

OP posts:
Elf1981 · 28/08/2006 19:06

Glad you had a good anniversary YF!

Wow, 9 teeth! Evie has 6, she seems to get two at a time, we think that two more are going to pop through soon.

Anybody still b/feeding and finding their baby wont sit still?! Evelyn is going beserk during day feeds, tends to prefer to kneel down next to me when feeding rather than the usual sitting down / lying down. I dont mind too much but she seems to keep biting me!

mawbroon · 28/08/2006 21:35

Johnny has got six teeth as well. Two on the bottom and four on top.

Elf - Johnnny was getting a bit squirmy at some feeds and I have taken to cuddling him in a blanket when he feeds. It seems to calm him down so he can get on with the feed. Other times, I give him a little teddy to play with and he seems quite happy to play with that and feed at the same time.

We moved Johnny up to the next size of carseat. I on a 90 minute drive this morning and thought he would sleep most of the way. He didn't sleep at all as he was too busy gawping out the window as he's much higher up and forward facing. I suppose it's much more exciting than the back of the chair which is what he's been looking at for the last 10 months!

Elf1981 · 29/08/2006 06:18

MB- shall try the blanket thing! She lays wonderfully still for the first and last feeds of the day, but she's in her sleeping bag then, so blanket may work.
Car setas - we moved Evie up in July, she didn't quite weigh enough but she was hanging out the other. We brought it on the Friday and all over the weekend she was like Lady Muck, I half expected to see her waving at the passing cars. But on the Monday we travelled to Mablethorpe, about 80 miles and she slept the whole way!

Yokefleet · 29/08/2006 08:41

Sure enough tooth number 10 is through this morning! We had a restless night with Thomas last night he kept waking and crying a little but we didn't need to go into him but at least we know why.
We too had to put Thomas into next size car seat early as he was too big for the other and he loves it, arching his neck as far as he can to get a better look out of the window (mind you in the first car seat I had him in the front with me and he just stared out of the sun roof)
elf we bottle feed but have a similar situation that the 1st and last feeds no problem and the other 2 can take 20 mins to get through as he just gets distracted by everything else going on around him. (nosey like his mum )

mawbroon · 29/08/2006 10:32

Wow number 10 YF cool.

I fear that the two naps are going to be coming to an end soon. Johnny's morning nap is getting shorter and shorter. This morning I peeked in on him after 45 mins and his forehead was jammed on the bars of the cot. I moved him a little and he woke and didn't go back to sleep. He was wide awake with no intention of going back to sleep. Next time, I'll just leave him!

My bra shopping trip the other day was expensive but very worthwhile. I ended up in John Lewis where I got fantastic service and it appears I have been wearing the wrong size bra for 20 years. I always thought I was 34 round the ribs, but apparently I am 32. As soon as I tried on the bras the woman was suggesting, I could see the difference and the bruises on my knees from my boobs swinging down there should fade soon I got a new nursing bra too and it is really comfy. I never imagined I was a 32 DD

mozarellamamma · 29/08/2006 19:51

i know what you mean about the bras when i got re-measured post baby i'd gone up to a 34E from a 34c but there's nothing like some decent upholstry (sp?) is there.

we use a nuk sippy cup (from beaming baby catalogue or green baby) and it seems to work well (no nasty pvc plastics in it either ) - though she only really gets a good amount of water down her through a bottle. is everyone else who's not breastfeeding anymore just using cups for milk now then? I fear we have fallen behind as i still feed her milk feeds with a bottle. Ooops.

Then teeth are amazing but not as a amazing as 8AM or sitting through a three course meal. Hurray for babes. x

Elf1981 · 29/08/2006 19:57

MM - we use a bottle for dd's milk in the day, will move to a cup at 12months or so. We use NUK bottles in the day for milk, along side a Avent beaker for water (stupid me thought it was Tommee Tippee, checked today, it's Avent!). So you're not falling behind

RE bras - I was a 36B before pg, went to a 36F! Since back at work, gone to a 36DD.
