temporary car trouble pomme? Wink hope A is ok. :(

apart from the poo and then throwing up on his sleeping bag, it was actually an ok night in the end. got him back to bed by about 3.30 and he slept till 6.30 Shock I guess that's only one wake up between about 10ish when he fell asleep on my knee in the living room and 6.30.

he is still looking v puzzled at food after 5 days! I'm sure there'll be more enthusiasm soon...

i even went to the effort of expressing a tiny bit of ebm for his porridge today but he still had a 'WTAF?' look on his face and just wanted to play with spoons. Grin

jaggythistle · 24/10/2012 10:36

pet that's a much more sensible idea than car trouble.

can you just get a drink/snack, put your feet up and chant 'this too will pass' repeatedly? sorry no actual suggestions!

PetWoman · 24/10/2012 11:27

Bless you Jaggy - I think that probably is the way ahead. Only then DH will complain about the lack of housework again...

PetWoman · 24/10/2012 11:29

Oooh, have you seen the Halloween smileys? I like [hgrin] and [henvy]

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/10/2012 11:29

Hugs to Pet for your clingy DS, and I hope Pomme's DD2 feels better soon. Poor LOs, poor Mums!

I second Pet's suggestion to Pomme re Friday night. Two nights out in a row is a big ask when you have a small baby anyway, let alone when she's ill!

Jaggy we recently bought Ewan the Dream Sheep, and DD really likes him. Unfortunately it's not a miracle cure for us, but sometimes I can get her to play with him in her cot when she would otherwise be fussing to be picked up. Also I think playing the music helps me to leave the room without DD hearing me when she's just drifting off to sleep. It has very soothing sounds, not like the horrific tinny music on some of DD's other toys!

Sorry to hear about all the general sleep problems. We're in the same boat here with DD waking up constantly through the night despite being six months old tomorrow (Shock). I do believe a few recent changes are gradually having a positive impact though: I've switched her last feed from normal formula to aptamil's "hungry milk"; she now has a bedtime routine that always(ish) starts at 7pm; I try to put her down sleepy-but-awake (which is far more likely to succeed at the start of the night than at 3am); I've got Ewan the sheep and I play his music whenever she's looking sleepy in a desperate attempt to create a sleep cue! Still, she's up at least 3 times a night at the moment, and that would be a good night! Sigh.

Survived my terrifying dental appt yday, it was the first half of a root canal completed with a temporary filling and I now have to wait WEEKS for the follow up appt under sedation. Sigh. At least it's not hurting as much as I expected it to today so far

Quick q, do any of you ladies have access to Which? I had trial access for a while but I cancelled my membership when the trial ran out. DD hates lying back in her maxi cosi cabriofix, she wants to sit up all the time, and I'm toying with the idea of buying her next-stage car seat and just hanging on to the maxi cosi as a back up for use in my parents car or when we need to put the car seat on the pushchair. I just want to get hold of the Which reviews for the various RF stage 1 seats out there. Especially the BeSafe Izi Isofix. Is there anyone I coule PM who would be willing to send me the copied review text?

Also, do you lovely ladies have any recommendations for next stage car seats? I'm assuming there are no stage 1 car seats that would fit onto a pushchair chassis?

TooImmatureGhostiesAndGhoulies · 24/10/2012 12:18

Pomme, I like Pet's idea of being honest and throwing yourself on their mercy! Friends should understand.

Jaggy, M wasn't very keen on food at first either. Or if she was, she dropped it on the way to her mouth/spat it out immediately by mistake. There's no rush!

I did have a fairly decent night, thanks Pet. M finally went to bed at 10.30 [hhmm], then was up at 1.30 and 4.30-5 (Transfer failure at first), then slept until 8.15, hurray!

I am conducting a dairy-free experiment because yesterday M had yoghurt for breakfast and dinner and threw up continually afterwards, both times. It was really smelly sick, too. [henvy] But she had scrambled egg, tomato, mushrooms and a bit of sausage for lunch and she wasn't sick much at all after that. She's never bothered by being sick - no screaming or anything, but it does get a bit wearing as she soaks her front/the sofa/me/the bouncer/me/the carpet/me. So today she's had porridge with a teeny bit of jam mixed through it, rather than her usual yoghurt. I've not been dairy-free, though, and she was a little sick after a big bf mid-morning, but nothing like yesterday. I felt guilty about the jam because of the sugar content but I haven't been shopping properly this week and there's not much in the house. I've now found some pears that DH's aunt gave us - they were still in a carrier bag after the weekend, because I haven't unpacked properly [hblush] - so she can have some pear mashed into tomorrow's porridge instead. Must do an online shop today!

Scream, I don't have Which?, but I shall be watching any car seat chat with interest. I really know nothing about car seats because I didn't have to do any research for M - SIL gave us her MaxiCosi one and that was that.

Biscuitsandtea · 24/10/2012 13:29

Pomme io'd either just be up front and say its too much or add in that dd2 isnt sleeping well and so you'd better stay home.

Scream for some reason i have in my head that you cant use a group 1 car seat until they weigh at least 9kg? Group 0+ (like the maxi cosi) usually go up to 13kg and of course rear facing for as long as possible is the safest thing. So if you're thinking of getting a rear facing group 1 car seat then it doesn't matter as much how early you switch i suppose?

Dream is our official expert on rear facing group 1 car seats i believe [hsmile]

We bought a britax isofix one for ds1 and assuming its still pk we will be using it again for ds2 (but it is forward facing). We also had a britax evolva 1-2-3 as our spare seat for ds1 which converts to a high backed booster so we're currently using it as a spare booster for ds1.

When ds2 gets to a group 1 car seat we'll use ds1's main one for him and probably put the straps back in the spare one and maybe buy just a booster cushion to keep for ds2 as a spare.

Oh and I would guess no group 1 car seats would go onto a pushchair chassis as they all stay in the car i think. They are jolly unwieldy things and of course are much taller to accommodate a much older child.

JenFrankenstein · 24/10/2012 14:59

No idea about car seats but will take notes for when I get to that stage

Pomme YANBU to think it is too much. Just explain and I'm sure it will be ok

Well done for being brave Scream

Now DD has been teething for yonks and we did have a tooth coming that we could see and feel. The dentist confirmed it too so we weren't imagining it. Said tooth has disappeared completely! Cannot be seen or felt and has been like this for a couple of weeks now. Is it normal for them to vanish?

DreamingOfPeace · 24/10/2012 17:04

I don't have Which? anymore either scream but got it for getting dds car seat. The BeSafe iZi Combi isofix got a best buy. It didn't recommend any of the tether strap type ones as said it was too easy for user error to render them unsafe but dds seat for grandparents cars is the Britax two way elite, I just watched the fitting videos like a million times :)

No time for more, off for weaning hell, just been digging for worms with DD who signs she wants to hold one, is delighted when I find one but then professes herself scared...

musicalmrs · 24/10/2012 22:58

Jen - Yes, that is normal. Or at least, that's what people tell me! Iz's have been doing the same- up and down. I think we're winning on the 'yonks' schedule with two and a half months of teething and no teeth. I'm hoping for a full set to make up for all her misery Grin.

Too, hope M doesn't need to be dairy free, and that the sickness was just a blip.

Afraid I can't help with the car seats discussion as ours is a 0+1. It is massive, and stays in the car - well, gets moved between cars while we have two (temporarily).

Achey stomach pain today. Could this be the return of AF? Noooo.. I'd been happily bobbing along without her..

Iz enjoying bits and bobs of food. Impressed by the amount of mess she made with avocado. She seems to prefer fruit over veg at the moment...

PetWoman · 25/10/2012 05:41

Scream well done for surviving the dentist!

Pomme what did you decide to do?

Am also interested in the car seat chat...

Too DS has also been sick after yoghurt. Really smelly sick. I hadn't connected the two things until you mentioned it. He's fine with milk, butter and creme fraiche (mixed into other foods) so maybe it's just yoghurt overload?

DS has slept from 10.30pm till 4.45am - yay! But I had a transfer fail at 5 and he is refusing to go back to sleep. He is nibbling on my nipple in a really irritating fashion and occasionally yanking at my face. I am now wide awake and quite pissed off.

Boo for the disappearing teeth. No sign of any here.

Dream DD's signing is amazing!

jaggythistle · 25/10/2012 06:56

glad you survived the dentist scream, forgot we're all due a check up.

even though I've been reading all your posts about food covered babies and dogs, i somehow forgot how messy it is introducing a small person to eating.

you know, the bit where they grab the porridge spoon with both hands, bang it on the table to ping it everywhere, then rub their eyes. maximum coverage in 3 seconds flat.

DS2's most favourite thing so far is to suck an apple while i try to eat it. he cries if i take it away! he seemed to love a wee bit of toast i gave him last night. DS1 was all Shock
"mummy he's a baby, he can't eat toast. he just eats...baby stuff!" Grin

was smiling at the worm story dream. :)

hope DS settles down for you pet

that's odd about the tooth
Jen. when DS2's appeared i think the bump stayed till the teeth came through.

both babies asleep, better get a shower.

later.

PetWoman · 25/10/2012 07:40

Trying to put DS to bed for his first nap of the day after I accepted defeat and DH brought me a cuppa at 5.45am. Bah.

Jaggy your maximum mess description was spot on! Glad DS2 is starting to show an interest in food. Sure he'll start troughing everything soon.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 25/10/2012 11:22

Howdy. Bit of a long night over here, DD was up and down yo-yo style. Could really do with going back to sleep for the rest of the day a couple of hours.

Thanks for the car seat comments. I remember thinking I'd probably pick the besafe izi when the time came, back when I was researching the maxi cosi. I haven't carried out any proper research on the next stage car seats though, and I think the besafe is just the most well-known RF toddler seat. (It's actually suitable from birth in RF mode Biscuits, thanks for making sure I'd checked! Smile) I might get my Mum or someone to sign up for another Which free trial, I really want to know the pros and cons of the besafe, as well as the safe alternatives.

Jen little A's teeth seem to have done the same thing! When she had a couple of horrendous nights last week I could definitely see the thin white outline of a tooth just below her gum, but since then it's vanished?!?! So bizarre!

Hugs to Pet, hope you're feeling less frustrated now!

Dream how is everything going for you? Is everyone well? Any improvement on the sleeping?

Loving the description of weaning Jaggy Grin Sooooo true!

Today is uber-planning day! I need to finally sort out what on earth has to be bought/made/ordered/organised/printed/booked before the naming ceremony next week! Eeeek!!!

DreamingOfPeace · 25/10/2012 14:55

Yyy, vanishing teeth, soooo annoying. musical, DD had gum pain (we think) and was teething from 15 weeks, but got her first tooth at 9 months 3 weeks and still has loads to go at 25 months...

B screaming if put into highchair last two days. S troffing for England. Can they never do the same thing at the same time?! Before B was loving food and S refusing. Unless I missed one/ thought it was the other baby (has happened!) S had a 5 hour sleep last night. B had a bad night though- still coughing.

Marvellous scream, you do the research and we shall benefit from your knowledge Grin

pet, its just a phase! He will nap in his cot again soon enough, just ride it out for now. So frustrating though. DD only napped in her sling, on me, moving (she knew if you stopped, at all...) for 9 months. Naps fine in her cot now. Fear not she says while despairing of the boys ever sleeping simultaneously

pommedechocolat · 25/10/2012 15:00

Ooo god, awful night last night, A coudlnt go to nursery so sent dd1 and took A with me to try and get a couple of hours done. Luckily she slept in the car for an hour and a half so was able to not get too far behind.

Was honest with my friends and all seems fine. Feels like a weight off my shoulders! Thanks for the advice xx

Good luck with the planning scream!

Love that you get them mixed up dream - I did offer the baby the toddler's squash yesterday. I also gave dd1's iced ring biscuits to my mum the day before so I have no idea who anyone is!!!

pommedechocolat · 25/10/2012 15:02

Took A with me to the office by the way, for clarification on my last very useless post

JenFrankenstein · 25/10/2012 17:21

Tripp Trapp question here. I'm putting it together and the pictures show that it is assembled before putting the curved bit that goes across the front on. How do you get it in as it is wood and therefore doesn't bend? Am I just being stupid?

Biscuitsandtea · 25/10/2012 17:32

Think we put it together loosely iyswim and then tightened it up

Had enough of my crap htc phone. Anyone know anything about getting a new phone 8 months into a 24 month contract?

Sorry for a short, irrelevant post. My phone hates MN but I am able to read everything.

DS had his paeds appt today. All ok thank goodness. Consultant was ace. I had my long list with all my concerns and he listened and responded to them all. Really going to try and stop stressing so much.

Biscuitsandtea · 25/10/2012 20:07

Really glad it all went well Scarlet and that the consultant was fab Smile

No idea on the phone - what network is it on? I'd be tempted as a starting point to just go into one of the shops for your network and just say 'look, my phone is shite - help!' And see what they say?

I'm sure other more clevererererererer people will have more ideas though [hsmile]

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 25/10/2012 21:05

scarlet, my phone is an HTC and can mn just fine. What HTC have you got? Do you use the app or the website? I'm totally untechnical so probably can't help, but my HTC uploads photos, just discovered I can look at people's photos, everything really. It's the HTC sensation. I think Hmm

Good on A pomme for whipping out a decent car nap when you needed one take it not in an immaculate sky blue Jaguar

I've gone crackers. Actually crackers. Plus I put the babies to bed st 6:30 to have a long hot bath with DD. She even let me use the winnie the pooh bath wash. We had such a nice time, even though I ended up putting her to bed quite late. Was lovely but bet the babies get up super early now... I can't stop worrying about their lack of development. B still not rolling. S only rolls one way-off his tummy. They mostly just lie on their backs and watch DD. B sits, S doesn't, but they're not exactly behind yet. Plus the weaning... Last few days b has screamed when put in the highchair, s is troffing well- opposite to before. They eat too many pouches. But really not that worry-worthy. So why am worrying?! I'm wasting their little lives worrying!!

Forgotten the rest...

Oh except hawthers, I was pre emptive saying we were getting on better. Arguing hugely with Dh. Over everything. Sigh.

hawthers · 25/10/2012 21:21

Oh dream you are doing your best. The boys will be fine I'm sure but I realise how hard it is to accept that from someone else esp when your worrying is on overdrive.

Eating is so variable for f too. Some days up for it other days (today) he ate bugger all. Also I know this isn't much help given DS1's history but he didn't really roll until he started cruising at around 1. The boys will get there I sure and when they all get a little older you've given them such a lovely tight knit sibling set up that they'll have forever and they will never remember any if this although I'm afraid you will unless you drink an awful lot

PetWoman · 25/10/2012 22:11

Grin Hawthers pass the Wine then.

Just re-feeding DS to sleep for the third time tonight.

musicalmrs · 25/10/2012 23:07

Yikes Dream, none til 9 months?! That's ages! I'll need some new fingers before then if Iz takes that long...

She's had a v unsettled day today. Had to conduct/run choir/accompany with her bouncing on my knee. To be fair, she was very good, except for when she decided to put her hand over my mouth while I was playing/singing/running it... obviously got fed up of me talking too much!

Pet, Iz is going through a similar phase. Has already had to be resettled twice tonight (once by DH thankfully). She was extra stubborn with her naps today too. About to go to bed but I think she's woken again... argh...
