Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
manicmumtobe · 18/04/2006 11:52

thanks for the tips Munz n Frizbe, will persevere .. ;)i aiming for a lie in, so DP can feed.. i read somewhere if you dont get them used to at least one bottle it gets harder the longer you leave it, thats the excuse I am sticking to anyway)..am contemplating missing hen weekend to continue BF but I draw the line at the missing the actual wedding! Does that make me bad?Blush
Happy feeding and sleepless nights, hope they improve reguarly for you all!

Frizbe · 18/04/2006 16:01

No that doesn't make you bad at all! can you express enough to cover the wedding, that's what I'm doing at the mo, stockpiling for one in 4 weeks time! will probably have rock hard norks from not having dd2 feed for most of a day!

Unisarah, hope you got him settled ok and had a goodish night?

Munz, your little ones doing great by the sounds of it, totally agree re the clothes thing tho! sure we've got far more than will ever be worn....luckily got rather a bit more in 3-6mth clothing as well this time round, so will be ok for clothes for a while!

Well I still have grotty cold, although after sweating my way thru a tshirt in bed last night, appear to be starting to feel a bit better...dd2 appears to be staving the cold off although she has developed a bit of a rash on her head, but doesn't have the cough yet, phew, dd1 on the other hand had the start of a cough this am, so could well be in for a rough few days with her...ho hum!

Jackstini · 18/04/2006 16:14

Wow - I have had a bit to catch up with!
Gothicmama & Int Girl - good to know of some more SAH Dads. I only have about 5 weeks til I go back to work now. Dh will still do a bit of part time work but he will be doing most of babycaring as I have to go back full time.
Friz - good to hear you seem to be coming through your cold now and should be feeling better very soon.
Been good reading everyone's feeding/sleeping/routine stories. We have been getting Scarlett off about 10ish and she wakes for feeds about 1.30, 3.30 & 6.30 so not too bad. Am going to start bringing bedtime forward now bit by bit. Also going to have a go at expressing today as my friend has given me an electric pump. Like Manicmum I have a hen night and a wedding coming up so want to see how feasible it is in advance.
Lovely to hear how we are all getting on and yes it is great to get back into pre-preg jeans! Grin

Jackstini · 18/04/2006 16:15

PS - Munz - just saw your new pic of Joey - ahhh!

Frizbe · 19/04/2006 07:07

Hi all I am gobsmacked today (and still full of cold, but that doesn't matter because...) dd2 took a 4oz bottle at 10pm, went to sleep by herself at 11pm in her cot, with no griping in between and slept until 6am, Grinwoooo hoooooo Grin so happy had to go full on pumping to get a 4 oz bottle, but it appears to be the way forward!
Hope your all ok out there?

Jackstini, grr at you in your pre preg jeans, I can just squish into one pair, and it is a squish!

OP posts:
Jackstini · 19/04/2006 09:51

Friz - grrrr at the sleeping!! Envy Wink Had 4 wake ups last night although she is sleeping like an angel now!
Am waiting for my breastmilk bags to arrive by post before I start pumping - not sure if I am looking forward to the experience or not...?

Frizbe · 19/04/2006 12:30

Jackstini, sure you'll be fine with it, although like you say its not really something to lookforward too! how you feeling about going back to work in 5 weeks then?

UniSarah · 19/04/2006 14:10

Noisy evening yesterday- 6 babies and their parents in one living room- Antenatal class reunion. Ed was an angel and slept through 3/4 of it. how does he know when we are in comapany and chose then to be quiet. No one belives me when i say hes vile at home, and he was vile for the last two days. HV recons hes got heat rash- in April! I knew he was a warm baby but I wasn't expecting heat rash.

If any ones interested theres a pic of \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?rn=57225&topicid=1700&threadid=165515&redir=57225\ed here}

laundrylover · 19/04/2006 15:30

Phew big catch up as I managed to break the wi-fi so have had no internet for days.
Love all the photos and have enjoyed the bedtime stories! Kiah is still pretty good but I did give her a dummy yesterday evening as she just wants to suck forever and my nips can't take it!

Sarah, we use cloth nappies out and about but have also used Moltex for weekends away etc. They are expensive but very good and one packet lasts ages as an occasional resort.

Had a horrible experience last Thurs as my friend and I were out in the back garden emptying the compost and having a tidy when the conservatory door shut and the security catch fell down. basically we were locked out and Kiah was locked in - it was awful. Holly climbed out and found a neighbour, phoned DP's mum for his mobile number and he came from work to let us in. Was over in about 20 mins but seemed much longer as Kiah kept having a cry and then stopping. Hope I will be back in jeans soon as I couldn't keep my mobile in my jogging pants as it falls out when you bend down!

UniSarah · 19/04/2006 16:03

LL- I've just been looking at Moultex - have requested samples from spirit of nature. Was disapointed to find that my worm compster is not big enoughto cope with composting nappies at home tho... according to ecobaby. So shall have to continue to put them in land fill Sad.

Boy's had a 3 hour nap so far! hes gonna be hungrey when he wakes up.

Jackstini · 19/04/2006 18:19

Friz - not looking forward to it in the slightest Sad Wish someone would pay me my full salary for looking after dd!
Dh had his first day back at work after 3 weeks leave today - he is very glad not got to go back now til Monday!

Frizbe · 19/04/2006 22:10

{{{{Hugs}}}} Jackstini, sure it won't be that bad once you get back into it, at least its a job you like right! Can you work some of it from home?
LL scarey stuff being shut out, glad it all worked out fairly quickly even tho it must have seemed like an age.
Unisarah, shame about the composter/wormery, you've reminded me I need to check my compost actually, sure it needs more water by now and a good turnover!

OP posts:
Jackstini · 20/04/2006 12:11

I do love my job and usually work about 3 days a week from home so can't really complain. Only issue is head office meetings - in California and my first one is due end of June. Dreading how my milking norks will behave away from dd for 4 days Shock Will have to get the expressing lark sorted by then.
LL - glad all ok after your lock-out nightmare - bet every minute felt like an eternity
Unisarah - antenatal reunion sounds like fun - am quite looking forward to mine now!

Frizbe · 20/04/2006 15:03

Yikes Jackstini, away for 4 days......might not work as well when you get back.....
If your bored on Monday and fancy a day out, there's a Real Nappy Day Event being held over at Belper, Nailers Football Club, just past the East Mill, will be signed from the main road apparently! 10am-3pm. Free entry, has refreshments and stalls, so should be worth a small trip!
Hope everyones ok?

OP posts:
Cadmum · 20/04/2006 16:55

Glad to see that you are all so chatty. Does anyne else happen to have a cranky baby? DD2 is really unhappy today. If I put her down she screams...

UniSarah · 20/04/2006 18:24

Is monday real nappy day then? I hadn't spotted that one coming, any idea where one can find info on other things across the country?

I joined the local toy library today- what a bargin, £3 for a years family membership and then 25p-£1 per item per week. I've got a baby gym and play mat for the week, Ed seems to like it and I've got bumps and babes at my house (up to 6 month old babies) on monday so hopefully they will like it too.

Off to the British Juggling convention for the day tomorrow, Eds first festival as a baby rather than as a bump. Hes going to get soooo excited by all the noise and bustle I expect.
Unisarah

Frizbe · 20/04/2006 20:11

Unisarah Juggling Convention, wow sounds great Grin we're off to a games convention, but that's work for us....quite how it will go with 3 kids in tow is anyones guess!

Its real nappy week apparently, this is organised by the local social services, so I'd assume they should be doing things country wide?

Caddy, I have a gripey baby too, thinking it could be growing pains, or worse still mabye my little angel is going to come down with the horrible bug I've gotten....we sound great here today, have picked ss up and he's still got the hacking cough, dd1 is developing it and I have just repulsed everyone I've gone near today and I only went out for some milk.....

OP posts:
Frizbe · 21/04/2006 20:04

Have good weekends folkes, I'm feeling worse again, cold back with a vengance...pah! but have to soldier on, as we've all got it now Sad and we're all off to work this weekend....will report on Sunday or Monday how it went!

vickiyumyum · 21/04/2006 20:23

hi all, well we had a good weekend, went shopping at gunwharf quays and spent far too much money, unfortunatley most of it was on lucy or the boys. it was my 30th last thursday and dh had the day off work, so we went out for lunch and my mum had the kids as it was school holidays. how nice was that? pure luxury to sit in a grown up restaurant and have nice lesiurley lunch with a glass of wine! although lucy was then fractious all evening, my mumsaid it was down to the wine in my milk???
lucy has taken to having a crying time from about 7pm through to 9pm, unless she is attached to my boob, so we have started to give her a dummy! Shock which works a treat, just trying to not let it become something for all times, i never take it out with me, it is strictly only for the evenings only, she doesn't even have it for bed.

we used moltex nappies for a while, but have gone onto pampers as the moltex kept leaking and at the moment she is in betweeen sizes in nature nappies, i feel guilty each time i throw one away, but still can't bring myself to use reusable nappies.

have a good weekend, and hope to catch up with all the news soon.

Munz · 22/04/2006 10:21

Shock vick, are u in portsmouth??? if u are, we should meet up for a coffee when I come home at the end of may, I was going to see if anyone fancyed a meet up from that way!

how is everyone anyhow?

Joey has his 8 week jabs on tusday - why is it they like to give you apt's at stupid oclock in the morning, i'm lucky to be out by 11.30 and they apt we have - 9.15!

anyhow it's just a quicky for today.

catj · 22/04/2006 13:52

Yet another quick update. Seren is doing well, she is now in the nursery on the cardiac ward. She will have to have another op before we can take her home-just waiting to find out when they are going to do it.
Portsmouth isn't too far from me (especially as I am spending most of my time in Southampton). That is if you don't mind meeting up with me too Grin

UniSarah · 22/04/2006 14:52

VikiYM- ditch the disys:-) preshaped terries are just as easy to change and leak less. I'm using Bumbles- they have an elasticy bit at the back so they catch poo really well , check out the real nappy talk threads for more info.
Friz- its that games convention as in role play stuff or board games? I really like games like Fluxx and Falling , which i discovered at a juggling con. Not keen onthe warhammer type tho, too teenage boy for my taste. BJC was fun for a day- didn't juggle at all, just chatted with friends and drank tea and sat in the sun. Boy got very excited, was interested in watching the bustle and is knackered today.
Dh and I have just blitzed the housework while boy is asleep. Waiting till hes awake and fed before doing the supermarket run "en famile". Washing is on the line and alls well with the world or at least my little bit of it.

vickiyumyum · 22/04/2006 15:24

unisarah - your weekend saounds as exciting as mine, fed lucy this morning(she slept through for the first time and so fed for 2 hours constantly! once she was awake), then when she was back asleep dh went outside and tackled the lawn with the boys picking up the grass to earn their pocket money for magazines, and i got on with the housework, cleaned the bathrooms, hoovered, dusted, stripped the beds, 2 loads of washing on, hanging washing out, the list goes on and on. and then to top of our exciting day we went to morrisons to do our weekly shop instead of our usual online shop on ocado. now i know why i try to avoid supermarkets, we brought cream cakes, doughnuts and pasties! yum yum! just had a pasty followed by a cream cake washed down with a coffee and sugar, lets see how lucy reacts to that second hand.Wink

munz- i live in reading, but in the summer we come down to chichester most weekends, so i am always popping in and out of portsmouth as the shopping is much better there, especially gunwharf quays, chichester is a bit too posh for me, too much jaegar and small designer boutiques, not enough next and gap. i would love to meet up one weekend we are down again on the weekend of the 14th of may if that is of any use. would be great to meet up with you and catj as well as anyone else who can make it.

UniSarah · 22/04/2006 18:58

Eds started to smile. Grin 2 very happy parents. My babies first smiles...such a small thing to make us so happy.

laundrylover · 22/04/2006 20:45

Just saying hello before my curry arrives - big windy baby tomorrow!!
For Real nappy Week info check out the Women's Environment Network as they co-ordinate it (one of my old clients too!) www.wen.org.uk When Tilly was little I tried to get to do nappy talks at ante-natal classes but it didn't work out so am going to try to be a bfing mentor this time to keep up my worthiness!Grin
VYY - with you on the dummy front - am too much of a dummy snob to ever be seen out in public but Kiah does love a good sucky session! Cloth nappies are fab and easy but with the amount of washing you must have already I don't blame you for not taking the plunge.
