Who else has bought their baby easter eggs ... I have (smarties ones), so I can eat them and he'll get them 2nd hand as chocolate mums milk shake.Grin

Ah the joys of DH being a civil servant, hes got this afternoon off as a privilge day. Hes up satirs in the living room playing a White Stripes CD and looking at the wall paper with the boy(the boy seems to like the wallpaper!).I have two hands to type, but seem to be makeing just as many typos as when I only have one free.
Listening to DH is hysterical, the boy's being introduced to his "old friend the door" and a new friend "the loft hatch" , DH claims "hes transfixed by it, so duuuh".
Viki, sympathy on your extended feed sessions, and your less than subtle sons.

That's right LL she sure is, although the last two days, she's lobbed in a feed at 2am ish as well, think it's the 6 week growth spurt thing as she's 6 weeks this sat!! Shock where did that time go Grin
At long last she's starting to develop a proper wakey time as well, so sleep, boob, awake, sleep, boob etc Grin hurrah! going to attempt to do bedtime from Saturday onwards this week, so no doubt most of evening will be spent feeding on bed! but would rather get the bedtime thing sorted sooner rather than later, saves on undue stress for us all.
Unisarah, glad your meet up went well, I must get in touch with some of the aquanatal girls and see if anyone is up for doing anything with the babies!
Hope everyone is doing ok and welcome to gothicmama

Friz- I recon bedtime is well worth a try. We've been doing it for about a week ( boy is 5 weeks tomorrow) and hes getting the hang of it, hes now asleep by 10pm most nights ( And I am by 10.15) we are startig to creep the time forward. Nights are generally improving a bit and hes getting better at calming himself when he wakes in the night. Not perfect and a long way off sleeeping through but regulary sleeping 3.5 or 4 hours at the start of the night and another 3 at the end, just the 2 hours of wide awake in the middle to sort out now! I'm feeling much better for the blocks of sleep too.
Unisarah
FWIW - our bedtime routine is - nappy change and into babygrow done by dad, then brought down to bedroom, wrapped up in his sheet and handed to mum for a feed in the semi dark ( nightlight only) , followed by a bit of a burp and upright cuddle, then poped into his basket when hes drowsey. dummy in ( he drops it after a few minutes). If hes noisey fretting after he drops his dumy I'll pop it back in, if hes quiet I leave it.
Its taken a number of days, but hes getting used to it and the whole process to him asleep is about 45-60 min at the mo. This is an improvemnet on when we started when it was well over an hour.

You don't get long full time with your baby do you gothicmama, whats your placement doing? I'm sure dad will do a fine parenting job tho and you can look forward to a long summer together, will your partner be around during the summer as well?
Its nice to hear of a SAH dad, I was working with a chap who had been a stay at home (SAH) dad for 6 years, just before I got PG. He was an inspiration and gave me the confidence to believe I could stop work and be a SAH mum for a while and get back into the job in few years time.

well we are off on our first weekend away since lucy was born tomorrow. off down to chichester, not sure how she will take to the change to ehr routine, she normally has a bath at 7, feed at 7.30, then a final feed at between 10.30 and 11 and then down to sleep hoepfuly until at least 4.30, so the change in routine may not ne helpful, but as it wa my 30th birthday today i am hoping to have at elast one night out in a nice restaurant with the kids.

hope everyone has a good weekend and a nice easter!:o

Sounds nice VickyYY have a great time Smile

Unisarah, sounds like a good routine, glad he's taking to it ok Smile we're going to try for a 7pm bedtime here straight away tho, as this will make dd1 happier, as she's big sis and gets to go at 7.30! and then ss to bed between 8-8.30, which leaves dh and I a whole hour/hour and half, before he has to go to bed too! however I'm fully expecting to spend more time upstairs feeding than doing anything else! but better to get routine going now.

Catj Glad Seren is doing well, how are you feeling?

Hi All: Good to hear most of you are doing well and Happy Birthday to VickiYY - hope you enjoy your weekend away and lucy is a little dream.

catj - sorry to hear about Seren but glad to hear she is doing well.
Munz - how is Joey doing? Hope he's okay.

I must admit I haven't been around much lately - been so busy with the boy and family stuff. Just wanted to check in and say we're both doing well, pretty much recovered - the SPD is gone - YAY and I'm back into my pre-pg pants - more YAY! I feel like a new person - except for being a little tired, which is to be expected. Jacob has been a good baby, settled in pretty well - sleeps, eats and poops pretty good. I won't sleep him down in the bedroom until we have a baby monitor (hope to get one soon) so he naps and feeds with me on the sofa in the evening and he actually isn't going to bed until about 10:30ish after we have a quiet feed and nappy change down in the dark bedroom. Then he sleeps until about 3am, feed and quiet nappy change in the dark then sleeps again till about 6:30am so not too bad really.

I have 4 more weeks of maternity leave then I'll be back to work and my dh will continue to be the SAHD which he has done for about the last 4 yrs. It has worked out fantastically for us although sometimes he wishes he was out working just for the adult conversation. He has found a couple of other SAHDs to keep company with which has been good.

The hours pass by so quickly - I can't believe baby will already be 4 wks on Monday - I am loving my time to spend just watching him and cuddling him knowing that in 4 wks I will only have a few short hrs each day during the week which also needs to be shared with a dh and 2 dds.

Take care all, I'll try to check in more often Smile

happy b- day vicki
Yesterday i went for my 1st bike ride in 4.5 months...yea, what fun, twas sooo nice to be back on the bike even if it made me feel Vv unfit.

Today we put the boy in disposables as we were out for the day and thought they might be easier. how wrong we were. in 4 wks of terries there have been only 2 or 3 leak incidents all attribitable to sloppy wrap checking at the end of the change and terry sticking out. today we had 2 leaks in 4 hours as the disy got over wet and then leaked wee up his back, V annoying, had to totally change his clothes after the 2nd one as he was soaked Angry

Report
Frizbe · 15/04/2006 21:25

Oh no re the nappy leakage UniSarah Shock that's the trouble with some disposables, I've found with both my dd's only papmers seem to work properly, odd eh! where as a friend of dd1's swears by huggies only......

Intgirl, wow only 4 weeks until back at work, doesn't time fly! glad your all ok Smile

Well dd2 has gone to bed by herself for the 1st time tonight at 7pm, although she then decided to feed half an hour later, covering the end of DrWho, which she got to listen to quietly in the background, as I wasn't missing that! she's now dropped soundly to sleep, so fingers x'd she stays that way, bar feeds! dd1 got to be a big girl and stay up until the end of DrWho, so she's very happy! dd2 also appears to have upped her feeds nicely, as I expressed 3oz off today as opposed to the usual 2, so that looks like its heading in the right direction!

ok really gonna try to keep up now! lol. well we were doing rather well - Joey dropped a night feed - well he was feeding every 2/3 hours by day till 6.45 then not again till 11.30 ish then 6.00am ish so I was more than pleased - but last night that kinda went to ratchet! lol. we had his baby pics done yesterday he did not look impressed! lol. also he's been v clingy over the past week - not sure if it's cos we've had a tonne of visitors then last week it was just me and him again as DH was on nights, DH is getting frustrated as once Joey gets over tired it's only me that seems to be able to calm/sootyh him. still hopefully now DH has 2 weeks off he should get used to him again as Joey's 7 weeks old and DH has been away for 2 weeks of that already! with the bed thingy, i've noticed if we take him up around 8-8.30 ish he'll go off nicely on his own, if we try to take him up any earlier he'll have a blue fit unless someone stays with him, so gonna do that now just quite cuddles till then althou i've started reading him a bedtime story - peter rabbit - one page and he's sparko! lol. anyhow..

int girl - 4 weeks Shock I did a bit of work on mondya and it's made me realise I don't want to do any after all whilst on mat leave - if the truth be know I don't want to go back to work once mat leave finishes but DH has said I have to if we need the money :( isn't iot great in pre pg clothes! lol.

friz- what did u think to the new dr who then? i'm not so sure my self - DH loved it thou - Billie piper with her boobs half hanging out! :o lol. 6 weeks growth spurt - ah remeber it well, well for Joey it was 5 weeks - boy was a nightmare, I think for about 4 days we were both only having 2/3 hours sleep a night and by day he was constantly crying, almost made me stop BF, still it's worht it in the end! lol.

uni - which dipps were you using? we've worked out with Joey - Tescos own - crap no good don't hold poop/wee, have to change them every hour, huggies ok but had to get used to their two layer thingy around the leg and to untuck the leg bit, but again don't hold much. Pampers - expensive but for our little man they're the best ones to use, we've had a few leaks but only when his winkles not been put down! Blush lol. also brought Joey a easter egg - naturally he had it second hand! lol. also clothes thing I agree ignore them - Joey's out of his NB vests/baby grows but still in NB Jeans and tops - the 0-3 seem to swomp him esp the jeans and the little thing's a massive 10lb 11 now! Shock

cat glad LO is doing better.

vicki - yeah Joey did that as well - well his fave thing was feed 3 hourly in the am and sleep for 2 hours at a time, then feed every 2 hours in the afternoon and be constantly on my boob from 6pm till about 10! lol. still it's got better - now he feeds 2 houlry in the AM which I don't mind as he is letting me have a good night. althou the sleep things a bit much - we've started the play mat now which seems to tire him out, but also needs careful watching as he gets over tired v quickly and then it take a good hour of him crying b4 he drops off exhausted - which is no good. also with the cloic thingy Joey's got that as well - poor bugger! anyhow infacol worked with him for about a week, like u 2 drops didn't help, so we switched to colief - expensive but good, a lot of hassle but it really settled him down. anyhow that also stopped working after about 10 days ish so I put him back on the infacol with 2 drops and he's been bringing everything up/down! only thing is over the last 2/3 days he's started being sick after having 2 drops each time, but 1 and he's unsettled all night 1.5 and we have the same 2 and he is fine apart from a bit of sick after each feed.

caddy - got ur piccy hon, when is it u move again? did ui want the PG tips sending over now - they'll take around 10 days to get to you over there. charlotte is lovely.

rom - how r u and Romi?

we did start a bed time routein but it's gone to ratchet as well last week - we were doing feed between 6.30 to 7.30 dep on when Joey wanted it, then bath half way thru (empty tum = scream blue murder full tum = loads a sick!) so half way he seems to enjoy his bath time, so it's bath in his washing up bowl in front of the radiator, then finish feeding daddy wind's him quiet cuddles then off to bed ( his feed then takes a good hour) but as I say ratchet of late. also got to know a local mum which is good, the boys is now 7 weeks and 10lb 11oz - the porker, he's still putitng on 9oz per week! Shock he's gone above the 50th line now but is on it for a 7 week old baby iycwim, as he was born at 38 weeks on the chart he's a 5 week baby so is big - not sure if u follow?

anyhow best get off, hope everyone's ok. ooh and been using my electric pump to express - I can manage 2/2.5 oz each side, as our boy's a greedy bugger now and like's 5 oz bottles instead of the 4 Shock but then he'll not want another feed for 3/3.5 hours so it's all good!

Nice to catch up with your news Munz. I think on the charts if Joey was born at 38 wks that counts as term so start from edd and that sounds like he fits nicely. Eds 5 wks too and something over 10lb 1oz (weighed on monday)gaining about 8oz a wk.

We were using the same disys as he was in for his 1st 10 days - he just pees a lot more at a time now I think.Hes near the top of their weight range now.I'll try a differnt brand for the next packet/size.but I do prefer the Bumble and other terries, its not that difficult for a day out and frankly easier than dealing with leaks.

Friz- well done on bedtime. I tried an early time but he didn't settle till late and I lost all my evening. With the creeping forward approach I'm conning my body into produceing night time milk earlier as that seems to be the feed that settles him down best. Its also his biggest feed and I need to have enough milk in store Grin.

Last night he did 3 & 4 hour sleeps. hurrah. and hes dropping off fairly fast now, time for me to start leaving him asleep and try re-joining dh for some adult time in the evening.

Well bedtime went a treat have to say and even better still I gave dd2 a 3oz bottle at 10pm and she slept till 4am, hurrah I can cope with that
Have developed horrible cold and cough today tho, and she's been feeding all afternoon, so is probably getting it too, ss brought it down with him, nice...not! have also run out of headache tablets and no where open to get them, debating sending dh to garage as starting to feel really crappy Sad

hello all, finally managed to catch up on thread! Despite DS arriving late on 2 April gonna stay put here on the March postnatal. It is good to see what i have to come re feeds, nights and growth spurts:) To my own suprise have breastfed from start and boy doing well..am attempting first express BM today and boy is it meant to hurt that much with an electric pump? dont think my nips will ever recover!!! Is there a routine for this I should follow, how much etc? will trawl othere threads for ideas. Was trying to start off with routines but seems DS has his own which to be honest, he is good as gold..so far! Perhaps I was being a bit to eager? I have come to conclusion those with more than one child all deserve medals..I have had only one bad night and felt like shooting myself:) Good luck to those with the screamers and thinking of you catj, made me realise how v lucky I am. Hmm must update my name soonGrin

MM2B - lol, good luck expressing, I had the same problem with my electric pump to satrt with but on the advice of mnetters here u need a tonne of the boob cream, a nice cup of tea a soft chair and something sweet to eat, and also take your time, I'm taking about 15 mins to get 2 oz out, and it's not painful now - also check your setting so the strenght of it - when I did 1 oz in about 3 mins it hurt like hell. are you leaking much at all? try getting shells and collecting your leakage, again i'm lucky to leak aprox 1 oz so I only express on the odd occasion when Joey doens't feed for ages.

well done thou with it, stick wiht the feeding thru the growth spurts/nights it'as worth it, however I do like having at least a bottle in the freezer and one on the go in the fridge just in case for DH to feed Joey if i'm knackered/v v sore from feeds so my boobs can have a break.

Report
Frizbe · 17/04/2006 15:24

Good advice there Munz Smile also I've found out that when you start expressing you should do it on the high setting, and then slow the machine down once your milk comes in, that way it shouldn't hurt as much, also make sure your nips are in the right place, a quick re adjust of the pump often helps I've found Grin

I was sooo proud of my boy last night- he got him self off to sleeep on his own and I got an hours grown up time with dh AFTER bedtime. NOT going quite so well tonight, I'm off to go and resue him in a minute if ....
he didn't pull it together on his own. Thankfully a swift replacement of dummy and a bit of shuuussshing seems to have the trick...may have to do it again in 5.
Poor little chap is a bit out of sorts , running a temp and has a rash, been rather ratty during the day. Thank goodness bedtime seems to still work.
