Hi ladies, have created this to start our postnatal thread, so fire away!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gothicmama · 18/08/2006 21:26

that is true. Dh is watching something else now so I'm keeping up to date thro MN how sad is that

UniSarah · 18/08/2006 21:52

Confesion time- it seems I am a crumby mummy who doesn;t notice that her son is awake and playing in his cot. Apparently when DH came into teh bedroom to collect his shirt before leaving for work this morning I was fast asleep and boy was wide awake smiling at daddy playimng with his blanket and collecting a goodbye kiss from his dad. I noticed none of this.
Dh did admit that it crossed his mind during the day that I might not have been asleep but might have been unconsious, and if so what horrors would await him when he got home... not that he was worried enough to phone and see if I was up and about.
Ho hum, I WAS tired, boy had a noisey awake hour in teh middle of teh night again. His naps have gone to pot as well and hes only powernapping for 15 mins at a time during the day.
Hope you enjoy your last few weeks of teh summer hols gothic.
Christmas in Jan is not unusual for theatre types, but as I'm the only one in our family I try and behave normally. Work Christmas does are always in Jan, even secret santa/grab bag pressies are done on boxing day ... so you can recycle something.

Frizbe · 18/08/2006 21:53

Lol its better than the tv tonight I reckon!

oopse cross posts Uni!
Sorry boys naps n sleep have gone to pot, 5mths growth spurt?

OP posts:
UniSarah · 18/08/2006 22:18

could be growth spurt, tho previous ones have seen him sleep more rather than less. I do wonder if we get to 6 month on milk alone of if I'll try solids to see if it improves his sleeping. Holding off for now, but have started expressing so as to have some milk in frezer for mixing into food.

Frizbe · 18/08/2006 22:29

Hmm yeah they tend to vary with the sleep thing, just do what you feel is right for you re the food/milk thing, is he drinking lots more have you noticed?

Dh has just called me from a forest, to tell me there's loads of lightening and thunder coming his way, from his mobile, how silly is that, I told him to get off the phone and under cover, dimbat....

Last on 1st off eh so I'm lonely, ahhhhh

So I was right 3.15am....dd1 climbs into bed with me....3.45am I chuck her back into her own,as she's just too wriggly.....4.15am dd2 wakes for a feed (far to early!) finishes at 5am....6.30am dd1 comes in and hits me when I won't take her downstairs immediately......she is sent back to her room for an hour.......we're all up now tho and are behaving nicely to each other again! I feel a visit to Grans n Grandads is in order to keep me sane.

was a copmlete idiot on thurs and loaded the kids in the car and drove to skegness. poured with rain and took us 4 hours. dd did enjoy it when we got there (only stayed 1 hour as was late and was raining) but was def not worth the effort. not having much luck with beaches (you may recall we went to weston super mare in june).

friday left luie with folks and went shopping in birmingham with ds and a friend.much better than derby shops!

was dhs b'day yesterday and my folks babysat while we went out to dinner with friends...making the most of free babysitting before they leave on tuesday!

I'm studying social work enjoy the week end have to go and do tea

laundrylover · 19/08/2006 19:57

Sarah it's lovely when they amuse themselves in the morning and well done you for sleeping thru it - I am still waking unfortunately but usually lift her out as don't want her to wake the toddler monster.
Said little madam has been out today spending her well earned 'sleeping money'. It's taken her a few months but today she paid for a ride on the roundabout and some Thorntons choc.
We decided not to go camping this weekend due to the monsoon but washer has broken again so at least don't have piles of wet stuff - it's all at my mum's round the Aga!!
Tummy bug's hit us by the way....

Frizbe · 19/08/2006 21:26

Ick no, not an orrible tummy bug, poor you LL, hope your all lots better soon {{{Big Hugs}}} they always make tummy bugs feel better!

Thanks Astro, feeling ok bailed out to Grandparents and then we went out, met Greatgran! and had lunch with her.
dd1's feet got measured and they've grown again...and did she like any of the shoes we saw, nooooo.....and I know there's no point in buying ones she doesn't want, or am I being soft?

So what did you think of the little bit you saw of Skeg??

Hi to everyone else! Munz are you back online yet?

OP posts:
laundrylover · 19/08/2006 21:32

Evening Friz!
Not a bad tummy bug really just a few too many loo visits!
DP off on works do, girls crashed out by 7.30 so think I may take the Weekend mag and have a hot bubble bath.....
Catch you soon.

Frizbe · 19/08/2006 21:45

LL I think you may have something there! might copy your idea.

OP posts:
romilly · 20/08/2006 19:55

hi girls

quickie question: do you all still do the dream feed at 11ish or can you drop it at 5 months. dd doesnt enjoy being woken up much at that time and still wakes up at 3 or 4am regardless. is there any point doing that feed???? not started on the weaning yet btw.

romilly · 20/08/2006 19:58

breastfeeding exclusively still - and feeds approx 6am, 10ish, 2ish and 6pm (a mammoth 40 min session) and then whatever time in the night she wakes up which is completely random

laundrylover · 20/08/2006 20:02

Rom we never did the dreamfeed but Kiah is often going 7.30 til 4 am now like your LO. Some times she does stir at 11/12 when we go to bed and I feed her but like you say she still wakes the same time for another go. I'd say leave her to sleep and see how she goes. Doing this means that you don't get her into a habit of waking and then you can go out clubbing!
We've not weaned either yet as go to Spain on Sept 10th and can't be faffed. Have been reading about BLW and might try that this time instead of sloppy purees.

laundrylover · 20/08/2006 20:06

Rom you have made me feel soooo much better about Kiah's infrequent feeding!!!!
Reckon she does exactly the same routine but am always popping her on as think she must be hungry! Tilly fed so much more often and for lots longer you see. Kiah has a long feed at 6ish but all the others are less than 5 mins really. How long does Romi feed for?

romilly · 20/08/2006 20:07

lol LL - clubbing!

yep, it seems totally pointless to me, that feed, i hate waking her up, i would find it very irritating if i was her!

romilly · 20/08/2006 20:17

LL - she feeds for about 10-15 mins, but is v. easily distracted these days, esp. if i am talking to someone while feeding - she will come on and off to check out what is going on and that she isnt missing out on anything. so i do a lot of feeds in my bed before her sleeps (lying down) as those tend to be calmer and she takes more time. not always possible, if you are out and about etc... i know

laundrylover · 20/08/2006 20:46

Think we are talking about the same baby! I'm always telling Tilly and DP to Ssshhhh as Kiah keeps pinging off my nipple to crane her head round or giggle. Don't mind so much now my thrush is gone but it was incredibly painful at each ping for a good while.

Frizbe · 20/08/2006 22:02

Lol at the popping off boob to check the world out, dd2 did it to me in the damn meadowhall food court when it was wham'd out the other day, everyone got an eyeful, as I was tracking dd1 at the time, when ss distracted little one by driving his new McD's car over the wall behind her

We're still dreamfeeding here, but then I have a piglet! I have tried to drop it, to no avail, although she does feed in her sleep if I get to her 1st, so that's one godsend....

Talking of weaning here, babylead sprang into action tonight, as dd1 made the mistake of sitting too close to dd2 with a yummy chocolate ice cream, dd2 got a right face full before we got her off it (and she was up for more), dd1 not happy, got her own back in a naughty step incident just before bedtime, when she threw dd2's 'skwish' at her nose.........

OP posts:
laundrylover · 20/08/2006 22:17

at the choc icecream!!
Kiah grabbed a handful of sweet potato off my plate the other day - reckon she was dropping hints but I will remain a meany mummy for a few more weeks.

Astrophe · 20/08/2006 23:15

Hi Rom!
DS is also a very similar feeder! Feeds maybe 4 0r 5 times a day, but is sooooo distracted and screams and pulls off, so i try to feed in our bedroom too, but i think this has actually made him worse when we are out and about. We don't do a dream feed - did try waking him and it seemed to unsettle his whole night and he fed more often. H sometimes wakes at about 12, but have discovered that if we can pat him back to sleep rather then feed (but not always possible) then he stays asleep the whole night, but if I feed he wakes again at 2 or 3. Aren't they odd?

lol at the choc ice cream! Ds had a chip in the pub on the way to skegness. sorry if you love it fRiz, but I didn't think much of skegness!

off to chatsworth again tomorrow, showing my parents before they leave for turkey on tues.

Frizbe · 21/08/2006 18:50

Jeez ya gotta be joking Astro, I think love is the last thing I feel for skeg (although the beach and see are kinda ok for sandy ones....I much prefer a quiet little cove in Devon or Cornwall! (or better still on the med somewhere!)

You've been feeding yours chips too then! soupey on the feb thread has tried that one too

We've done cauli, tatties n parsnip tonight followed by mango (although that tends to be a bit runny when it comes out the freezer, so more of a drink....) went to HV today for 1st time in ages, dd2 is 15lbs 15oz at 24wks. HV wanted to know if I was feeding lunch yet, I said not, she said well you'd better start getting into it soon, I had to remind her that dd2 is not 6mths yet, even tho she'd just done her charts......

OP posts:
romilly · 21/08/2006 20:07

friz - very amusing about the choccie ice cream i think we all enjoyed that one. reckon my dd would be up for some of that too, given half a chance.

lol @ the chip too

astro - yes i know what you mean about feeds actually encouraging them sometimes to wake up more - i have noticed she seems to get more of an appetite in the night if we do a dream feed. not the desired effect! giving it a miss tonight and feeding more in the day on the advice of the very wise mears on another thread.
