on your behalf ll, how very annoying....
So when you do your house are you going to be employing lots of green techniques? I really fancy (if we ever build our own) the haybaleing (SP) insulation system, if you've ever seen that? would love to sort our own sewage etc out too, but am guessing for us, this is a long way off!
Not too bad a night here, dream feed at 11, then up at 1st light about 4.30 for a boob, then awake at 6am to see her daddy, dd1 slept until 7.15 tho!!
Had a fab outdoor breakfast in the shade this am, dd1 at nursery today, so we both chilled out in the garden, dd2 on mushed banana, myself with cherieos! watching the butterflies flutter by, ahhhhhhhh, too chilled out to do the damn accounts now

What a lovely sounding morning Friz.
I am working - can you tell? Sis has taken girls to library and park as she is working 2 days a week for me during the school hols. Last night we sorted ALL the girls clothes and took about 10 carrier bags full to the recycling! We've inherited clothes off so many people it had got ridiculous.
We want to build a 'green' house and like you love the idea of straw bale and reed bed systems...however due to the scarcity and price of land this plot we've found is teeny so would just be a starter project with as many green things as poss. Anyway I bet it will go for crazy money at auction on Thurs but will let you know....
Kiah slept well last night - Tilly did too but wet the bed (with nappy on!) at 4.30am and then a bloody duck kept us awake for an hour quacking! She had one duckling but reckon she'd lost one too (fox or mink?) and was very upset.

munz · 25/07/2006 19:31

evenign everyone. well last night we manged every 3 hours so we're getting there! lol. boy was still up at 5.45 not that I can complain tbh as he went down at 7, woke 3 times in the night for feeding so nearly back to normal! - thank god that's over for another few weeks (she says! lol)

today's been quite good, althou he's had no napping since 2.45pm still went to bed at 7 (prob would have had a late nap, around 5 but i'm hoping he'll sleep well tonight - again she says! lol) (althou took 15 mins to settle him but never mind)

rom - have ordered one of these today so will let u all know what they're like whilst I wait for my australian stuff to come thru. here fingers crossed it's good cos it has the feet to stop the boy escaping but also the arm restictions cos the whole sleeping bag is no good, won't stop Romi rolling but will help with the legs thing.

LL - thrush as well, u poor thing, fingers crossed it all gets sorted out for u. sorry to hear about your builder, as u say thou u need someone reliable. very of u building your own home thou. good luck in the auction.

friz - how do u find DD is with banana? i'm taking the plunge tomorrow, tesco.com is coming and i've got loads of fruit and veg to try out. is it best to try one food per day or one per week, or every other day, or every day? an on going prob I have is joey wanting to grab the spoon and feed himself which i'm all for cos it's so amusing for me to watch (i'm a cruel mummy! ) anyhow can they have banana as a finger food type thing? (i'm thinking heres a bowl and let him amuse himself with it! lol. and do u offer a food again if they appear not to like it or just strike it off the list? and accounts - pah we don't like accounts! in fact i'm chaning my job form accounts don't know waht to but too much hard work - u should be sunning yourself! lol.

anyhow off to play with the dogs int he garden for half hour b4 a bath and early night again! lol - this whole 6am thing is a killer - still better 7pm bed and 6 wake up than 9pm bed and 7am wake up ooh and got me cleaner sorted for our moving so no need to clean/scrub the carpets - woohoo!

romilly · 25/07/2006 20:23

sorry to hear everyones been having crap nights - me too!!!! not feeding, still the rolling antics

astrophe - thanks so much for your help with the safe-t-sleeper link. unfortunately i have been advised against using anything that may overheat her, as this apparently makes it even more dangerous. thanks anyway tho.

munz - i have one of those swaddling blankets, romi hated it from birth! as you know she likes to move around a lot!

Frizbe · 25/07/2006 20:30

LL good luck with the auction on Thurs then

Munz, dd's fine with banana, in fact so far the only face she's pulled is at carrots....I normally mix n match stuff, as I don't like eating the same thing two days in a row and thus figure dd won't either! I mashed the nana with a fork, so's you know, although she's been gumming melon, apple, n plums too! I've also been lobbing her the odd bit of jar'd stuff (organic don't ya know!) as well tho, just to mix things up a bit, she likes pumpkin! and loves blueberry and vanilla (great to get out of bibs ) was very sweet tho, oh and the pasta n ham jar was good.....we're having courgette tomorrow from my mums garden, the rest is in the freezer in the usual cube trays, so will probably try n mix it with things as I cook, ie sweet potato, tomato, brocolli, cauli, possibly apple, as sweet fruits tend to go down better with veg!

OP posts:
Frizbe · 25/07/2006 20:32

Rom someone on the feb thread has a face planter too, they've been ok so far tho, you'll be pleased to know......I think they're just hoping their buba will get the message and move head soon!

OP posts:
munz · 25/07/2006 21:03

thanks for the tips friz - i'd like to give him some chunks to gum at but i worry about him choking himself. with the ice cubes do you heat them on the hob wiht a little extra water? (sorry to sound dim but first tiem and all! lol) I've tried some of the tinned stuff as well, it's just i'd rather do my own if the boy will eat it, i've tried cheesy potatoe and chicken and veg pots with some of those powers as well and he's pulled a horrid face at all of it and clamped the mouth shut after 2 mouth fulls! lol.

don't know what else to suggest then rom re the rolling thing.would she still roll about if u were to put her on her sides towel either side and a sheet over her tucked into the bed really tightly? don't know if u've tried it - prob have but it's the only other thing I can think of.

boy's still asleep at the mo, created after 40 mins - bloody dog next door again but is sleeping peacefully for the minute.

gonna try to do a stats if I cna to see who's baby's who's! lol.

munz · 25/07/2006 21:27

ooh just gotta mention - cos i'm soooo proud of the boy, he sat up today on his own in his rubber ring thingy - been trying all week to balance and today he finally did for about 3 minutes then flopped forward! so proud! lol.

Frizbe · 25/07/2006 22:03

hurrah for ds Munz! I must blow up our rubber ring thing and see if dd2 can manage to balance, she's sitting ok in her bumbo now
Munz, hold the chunks for him!! I've not let dd2 loose with her own finger foods yet!
I usually let the cubes defrost in the fridge 1st, (in the bowl they'll be served in, but you could just as easily melt them on hob or in micky.

Astrophe · 26/07/2006 10:04

Hi all, have been lurking, sorry. DD very dificult at the mo - jealous of ds, clingy, doesn't want to go to nursery/daddy/bed...doesn't want me to be at the computer! (any tips Friz/LL/anyone else with toddlers?) My folks arrive on Saturday so we are a bit busy getting organised.

Rom - ah, overheating - yes, didn't think of that! I'm glad you checked! TBH I had my doubts about whether babies who want to lie on their tums were very likely to tolerate being strapped down anyway!

Munz, glad things are a bit better. Re. food, I think you can introduce new things every day or so, but we always give him a bit early in the morning (not breaky, just a spoonfull) so hat if there are any allergies there is a whole day for them to develop and us to notice.

DS has had:
corn
potato
pumpkin
sweet potato
cheese
brocoli
apple
kiwi
raspberries
banana
rice cereal

in various combos, all pureed, but the banana mashes with a fork, some water and some rice cereal (his favourite) sweet pot, pumpkin and corn was also popular!

LL-at least you know not to employ that builder...perhaps consider it lucky you found out now that he is unreliable, rather than when you have half a roof and no loo!

Off to town to shopp without my dd, then go early to nursery to hang out there with her for a while..see if that helps her to settle.

Have a good day / night gals.

Frizbe · 26/07/2006 18:44

Astro, hmmmm toddler tips....erm.....I've been trying to make dd1 feel happy about having a little sister by trying to include her as much as possible in things I do with dd2, so for instance, getting dd1 to fetch bibs/pukey cloths/choose which item of food for dd2 to try, I've explained loads of times about dd2 needing boob milk, like dd1 did when she was little and try to ensure I have something to do with dd1 whilst dd2 is on boob (book or video of her choice if we're at home) I'm also trying to make her feel happier, by putting dd1 to bed 1st (by half hour) and I also try to find time to just do something with dd1, ie baking/painting/playdough whilst dd2 is napping, also think loads of praise helps when she does things to playwith/help dd2 out......bet your doing most of this already tho, and she's still gripeing right sure she'll come round soon, might be lots better when she sees Gran and Grandad this weekend

astro - your lo is getting a gourmet weaning intro! very impressed. how do you do the sweet potato? do you boil them and then just mash them up? i am clueless as havent started yet. and yes back to my problem, the overheating has ruled out a lot of solutions i could think of.

munz - tried that too! she kicks a sheet straight off, even wedged in with towels gina ford style. she has very strong little legs.

tonight i have put her to bed an hour later in the hope she will be too knackered to roll. it may work for a few hours - at least i can eat my supper in peace, lol...

munz · 26/07/2006 20:18

rom - would it help to have a fan on or something and then do one of those otehr things? so she doens't heat as much possibly?

ast - thanks for the tips hon are they OK with cheese b4 a year?

Friz - get a blowing girl! lol.

so far bad night after the 7pm bed time - nott hat I can blame him really poor lamb, he was up at 4.30 this morning - why do babies assume thats the tiem the day starts! lol. gave him some chunks of apple to gum at this morning! lol - highly amusing he actually took to those better than puree, althou he did try to give it a good suck so not sure if he' quite ready yet.

romilly · 26/07/2006 20:24

just had our first roll over so that didnt last long... here goes another long night

munz · 26/07/2006 20:29
  • have u thought about posting in the sleep section? maybe one of the other mums has had the same problem and can suggest something we haven't thought of?
munz · 26/07/2006 20:33

don't know if this site might help you at all? berkley i've found it useful for things with Joey}

gothicmama · 26/07/2006 20:38

Hi all,

DS is fast asleep, he went to his first football match last night with me granddad and dd. He seemed to enjoy it. I did think it throw his sleep routine out but he woke atthe same time adn went to bed ok tonight. I usually introduce new food after 48 hours and usually at lunch time, he's been in his ring thing and enjoys it altho at the mo he seems determined to roll adn try and crawl if on the floor (blimey can he move on his back but subtly so yougo oh how'd he get there)

romilly · 26/07/2006 21:15

munz - thanks hon. will have a look when i get a chance between baby-attendance! x

Frizbe · 26/07/2006 23:00

Argh eh Rom, what to do with your little one, wonder if you get a really large sheet, you can pin her down on her back with it, by wrapping it around the cotbed somehow mummified dd kinda!but only upto the armpits.......

Munz, you know I can't remember about cheese I'm thinking cows milk and 12 mths, but then you can give fromage frais after 6mths, so ? LL/Astro can you remember?? Hope your getting a good nights sleep!

Gothic our little ones been shuffling around all day too, keeps rolling over and over now she's gotten the hang of it, has a small scream when ever she gets it wrong/ends up where she doesn't want to be, which is making me laugh, but upsetting dd1

OP posts:
munz · 27/07/2006 08:01

lol, well done ur Bub GM - Joey likes to pivite around on his head! lol.

friz - not keen on giving him fromas frai thnigs/pettie fillos (sp) was thinking about natural yoghurt with a little banana or something for the flavour? is that ok? nights have vastly improved - (in fact must tell CFS) he's going down at 7pm normally asleep by 7.15pm waking at 1.30 ish for a feed, then 3.30, 4.30 and 6, (at 3/4 he gets his dummy and a cuddle and that's it) a vast improvement on last week thou. so girls if it does happen to your bubba's at 5 months, don't worry/panic like me cos u'll come thru it! - of course with lots of cuppas, choccy and u guys

i'm so of all your babies who are rolling, joey's done it a couple of times but doesn't do it any more, he sits up thou in the ring thingy, but rolling - it's almost like he can't be bothered anymore! lol. loves tummy time thou.

Frizbe · 27/07/2006 08:19

Munz glad to hear you had a better nights sleep
You'll be fine with nice natural yoghurt, so long as its pasturised (from what I remember!) remember no honey until after 12 mths!
Ok night here too so feeling awake, hurrah! only dd1 woke last night, crying for a drink at 11pm, just as I was off to feed dd2, so two birds with one stone n all that, job done until 5.30am dd2 has figured this am that if she throws her legs sideways, then moves an arm, then drags the rest of herself along, she can crab sideways......luckily she is only doing this in very small bits

Hope your all ok, off out to play today me thinks!

OP posts:
laundrylover · 27/07/2006 12:24

hello all,
munz - any dairy is fine after 6 months so cheese, yog and milk in cooking/brekkie. just not as a main drink until 12 months tho we were using it at 11 months in argentina for ease. kiah has only rolled once too but she is a bit of a lazy pudding! fast asleep on my arm right now....
astro - no toddler tips here i'm afraid apart from perhaps putting them on ebay!!

munz · 27/07/2006 14:25

ooh friz looks like neve might be on the move then lol, glad u had a good night as well - amazing init what enough sleep does to a mummy! lol.

thenks for the info re the dairy product, got the boy some natural yog/natural fromais frais stuff, it doen't say if it's pasturised thou so not sure if to use it, the yog says it has live products thou

lol @ LL putting toddlers on ebay! I like it!

anyhow we now have a stack of veggies/fruit so off to do some pureeing now we've got the ice trays as well. woohooo! we're gonna make such a mess! I love it! lol.

Astrophe · 27/07/2006 14:44

have fun munz! I just whipped up a batch of purees, should last us a few days.
The 'live products' in the yughurt would be the bacteria wouldn't it? The stuff that makes it yoghurt? I have given ds a tiny taste of natural yog with apple puree...starting slowly with it as apparently can make some bubs regurgitate and have nappy rash! But hes fine so far. Its great for mixing with savoury foods too (well, I like it...not sure about ds yet)

We had same advice as LL...dairy after 6 mos, milk as a drink from about 12 (we gradually weaned from breast to cows from 11-14 months!) Our early childhood health nurse back in aus told us yoghurt, cheese etc were ok to wean with, but go slowly in case of allergies and tummy upsets.

Think we will mainly stick with fruit and veg until 6 months, but he has a little bit of cheese with his potato puree as they are a bit bland otherwise

Astrophe · 27/07/2006 14:47

oh, and munz...just make sure ds likes it before you freeze loads in ice cubes...I learned the hard way with dd, and it broke my heart to throw out all my carefully prepared, nutritious purees that she wouldn't eat!
