Hello Lucy :) (Always liked the name Lucy - it sounds all soft and gentle...)

I'll try the stairs out Tabs.

I seem to recall being told last time that the weight does come off well with breastfeeding, but it takes a bit longer to start with - something to do with the fat stores that you put on during pregnancy are to help with breastfeeding, so your body will naturally use em up as you feed which is how the weight shifts, but you need to use em up first before you notice any difference. (A lot of that is probably wonky information, but I think the general gist is right!!!).

Spent about 2 hours walking with DD at a local park place, with DS in sling. I even managed sling feeding while she played on an activity bit Grin But he's been truly miserable all day (think he's making up for my easy day yesterday), so by the end he wasn't happy at all - in sling or out, or in any position :( The walk back to the car wasn't fun with him all bulky from snowsuit, screaming and squirming in my arms. DD loved it though, looks all pink cheeked, and I guess it will have done me some good!

My first attempt tomorrow to get them to clinic... should be fun!

Chloe55 · 22/03/2006 17:03

Hi Lucy - congrats on your DD Grin

My ds has been a grumpy sod all day today after being such a happy chappy yesterday if it's any consolation Flame. I have finally got him to go to sleep (think he has been overtired all day but refused to kip) He wouldn't settle at all in his pram so we curled up together on the sofa - I've only just plucked up the courage to gently move off, leaving him on there without waking him - success!

MrsDoolittle · 22/03/2006 17:09

Lucy - I asked for Diflucan for my thrush but was told it's contraindicated when breast-feeding by the hv. I've been given Daktarin but I would much rather an oral medication too.

I'm absolutely knackered at the moment. Ds has been sleeping really well during the day but feeding feeding and some more feeding at night. I'm totally wasted. I have been trying to feed him loads today and waking him to do so in an effort to reverse his sleep pattern.
Will this work?

Flamesparrow · 22/03/2006 19:29

I'm so tired :(

DS has been miserable all day, DD is just very hard work today (not helped by mummy letting her sleep for 30 mins at lunchtime and now she doesn't want to sleep!), and I think the walk + lack of sleep has caught up on me.

JuA · 22/03/2006 20:38

Hi guys
Not getting much time to post these days! but am keeping up with your posts!
Hugs to all those with wind/colic - neither of mine seem too bad - although they have their moments.
Evenings are the hardest - especialy when dh is working until 9pm. Neither of them settle very well at that time of day and I need to get dd into bed! Fortunately I have a couple of child free friends who are happy to come and cuddle a screamy baby!
Thet had their 6 week check last week - Emily has been referred to the eye clinic because she has a squint but other than that they are both fine. Emily weighs 9lb 7 and Jess 8lb 6 so they are both putting on weight!
Here's hoping for plenty of sleep and happy babies for everyone! :)

Frizbe · 22/03/2006 21:06

flame n tabs I can symphasise re wind, dd2 is starting 2 get it bad.....luckily had a mate pop round this am who managed to get her thoroughly burped for me, and has made her better today than she was yesterday, we discovered this am the best winding posture for dd2 is flat on front over knee with back vigirously rubbed, followed by sitting upright is doing the trick....

Yeahbut, ouch hon, not nice Sad hope you get better soon

Flame, go swimming hon! sure I swam last time whilst bf, as started taking dd1 to pool!
I'm a 16 also at the mo, sure I'll go down with time and once I stop BF, as last time only lost all the weight with stopping BF.

Jas like the buggy and what a great dd1 Smile

Hi Lucy and everyone else, gotta dash now as dd2 griping again!

cuffyj1 · 22/03/2006 21:56

DH on nights again and ds hasn't fed well again at 6pm, he didn't take much in the night although he woke up on the dot for his feeds then he's took 7oz bottles twice in the day then at 6pm gone back to taking 3oz again.

I took the dog for a walk about 8pm and ds went to sleep in his pushchair and is still asleep in there now, i really need to get him out and into his moses basket but i don't want to wake him, but sleeping downstairs in the kitchen, in his pushchair and wearing a big snowsuit can't be good so i'll have to disturb him soon.

Hi lucy, congrats on your dd.

Flamesparrow · 23/03/2006 09:37

DS spends a lot of time sleeping like that Cuffy! I just make sure that he is somewhere cool so that he doesn't cook.

Better run... oodles to do, and today is the one day that DD let me sleep, so I'm running late!

Chloe55 · 23/03/2006 09:56

Cuffy - my ds eats sporadically like that too - I mentioned it to the HV and she said that babies are like adults, sometimes they eat loads and other times they're not so hungry - she didn't seem concerned anyway.

Off to Meadowhall this aft - DH has said I can treat myself to a new outfit with some of his bonus woohoo! Grin

Jasnem · 23/03/2006 13:03

Hi,
Sleep deprivation is starting to catch up with me. Very tearful today...shouting at dp due to total lack of support from him has helped, as he's done a bit more today.
Boy has been very restless again, feeding every 2 hours and not settling very well between feeds.
Will try and catch up properly later if/ when he settles.

Flamesparrow · 23/03/2006 14:23

lmao ... the hugabub arrived! Its like origami with fabric Grin

Think we've got the basic upright method sussed (much more comfy than ring sling)... Annoyed with the instruction video - if you've bought the sling already (hence having the video) why do you need 10 mins being told why slings are so good????

Went to clinic today - I get to join the thrush club! Not oral or nipples though... DS has armpit thrush!?!?! She said to go and buy canesten cream for it - is there a special gentle baby one, or just the basic girly bits thrush version? Oooh, and I thought I was crazy because we've been seeing smiles for a couple of days - assumed that I must be imagining it because he's so young... he grinned at the HV and she got all excited too! Grin

Not fun on school run today... DD really sobbed and clung to me :( I feel sure she was fine within minutes, but it was very hard to walk away and stop myself from crying too!!!

Flamesparrow · 23/03/2006 14:26

Jas - I meant to send you some big hugs, and pressed send too quickly! I'm sorry about the tearfulness... I was sooo tearful last night too. Telling DH he's helping get the house straight this evening. I know I could be doing it now while DD is at school, but it is my one time of day for quiet cuddles!!!

Frizbe · 23/03/2006 16:19

{{{Big Hugs}}}} to all you teary ladies, hope you feel better soon... I've had a wonderful afternoon, took both dd's to playcentre this am, 10-2pm both have been asleep since!! dd1 on sofa, dd2 'cooking' in her snow suit in the car seat still!! fabby!

Chloe55 · 23/03/2006 16:39

I've had a crap day. Firstly, my boiler broke yesterday so we have gone without heat and hot water for over 24 hours now and it is bloody freezing in this house - ds is in a snowsuit and wrapped up and he's still miserable, I'm in 3 layers and a big fleece and my fingers feel like they are about to dorp off as I type.

On top of that I have been shopping for a nice new outfit - had one of those shopping days where everything looks rubbish and doesn't fit. I think it was hard to accept that I am bigger than I was and can't get away with certain clothes now Sad Anyway, felt like I couldn't leave without buying something so got some trousers, a corset and little cape thing to go over shoulders (forget what you call them). I got home, tried them on and they look shit and are all going back to the shops ASAP. Sorry for the swearing but I am just so miserable today, I have a banging headache which isn't helping and I bloody hate how my body looks, it sucks Sad
Had to get that off my chest.

ellenrose · 23/03/2006 20:30

Chloe Sad so sorry to hear you have had such a crappy day. Had to go shopping today as none of my coats do up and I seem to have been walking around thinking I look like I do pre-pregnancy and then catch a glimpse of myself in one of the mirrors in the shops and want to die Angry

I know it will all go back eventually but it is so horrible when you do not seem to be able to find anything to make you look nice and as happy as you feel with these adorable babies {{empathy hugs}}

Frizbe · 24/03/2006 08:47

Oh Chloe hope things look a bit better for you today, and that your boiler gets fixed asap Smile and {{{{Hugs}}}} if its any help dd2 threwup all over my only pair of jeans that I can fit into last night, so they're now in the wash, lord knows what I'm going to wear today now......huge baggy skirt? (I don't do skirts)

Hope everyone is feeling ok today, dd2 did me a 4.5hr stretch last night then woke at 3am, then at 6am then at 8am! although is asleep again now, can't complain about that pattern really can I Smile

Flamesparrow · 24/03/2006 09:04

Show off Frizbe Grin

DS fed all night. I'm exhausted and my nipples feel like they've been chewed off! And it doesn't matter if I've fed him in bed just before I come downstairs - he's convinced he needs feeding again 20 mins after I've got up.

Played with the hugabub for school collection... it coped with me running, so I'm impressed!

Can anyone help with my canesten question? Do I need normal cream or a special baby one for his armpits?

Tabs · 24/03/2006 11:01

Morning ladies - I'm dancing a happy dance today, so who needs a hug? >>

Flame - DD joined the thrush club yesterday! Her nappy rash just won't disappear, so she has been prescribed canesten (or cheaper nameless brand equivalent). Just had a read of the leaflet, and definitely seems to be the same type that you would use. I was told to apply it v thinly on her twice a day.

Chloe - nightmare re boiler - I would be moving to in laws or hotel until fixed if it were me!

Oh, should say why I'm happy I suppose! Pippa had mammoth feed before bed last night - a whole hour of active feeding, but then slept from 10pm til 4:15, when she had a nappy change and another whole hour of feeding, before sleeping from 5:30 until nearly 9, when I got her up. I managed over 7hrs sleep during that time, and got to have breakfast before getting her out of bed - fab, we'll take more of that please!!!

She's having a nice nap again now, so I've managed to shower and dress too. Definitely feels like we've turned a corner over the last week. I had thought that Monday's osteopath session hadn't made a difference, but think that's just because the first session was such an immediate dramatic change, and this one has been more gradual. Can't recommend it highly enough to anyone still having trouble - cuffy - you were considering it weren't you - I would seriously go ahead and book it up.

OP posts:
Jasnem · 24/03/2006 12:54

Chloe -Sad I'd be moving out, too if it's not fixed today! Hope it's sorted quickly. You will get back into shape. I keep trying to remember that it took 9 months to get that big, and it will take 9 more to get back to normal. I'm a size bigger than before, but have the flabby tumm, too. I know from having the girls that it will get better ( although it may get better quicker if I exercised. Grin)

Smile for Tabs - glad things are coming together a bit more.

Is anyone using their reusable nappies yet? I tried mine last week, but he got nappy rash after 2 days and I gave up... will try again this week I think.

MrsDoolittle · 24/03/2006 13:55

Oh Chloe, you remind me. I have two weddings at the end of April, both are very good friends. Whst am I going to wear? Sad Sad

Tabs · 24/03/2006 14:16

Jas - we're in reusables and have been since day 8, though given that I've just said that Pippa has been prescribed canesten for her nappy rash I'm not sure that that helps with your problem! I thought maybe I wasn't changing her often enough so it was partially my fault, so you've made me feel better that it isn't just me, although sorry that boy has suffered too.

Pretty sure that flame said she had started on the reusables too.

OP posts:
ellenrose · 24/03/2006 15:25

Have been using resuables since we came home (during the day anyway) and Maisie has been fine so far. Gave up using them at night because she was soaking when she would wake up from a long sleep and it seemed horrendous so we have used a combination and working well for us Smile

hotmama · 24/03/2006 15:27

Just checking in to the land of the living. Wink

I've been like death the last couple of days. Sad

Hello and welcome to Lucy. Smile

Been to see my GP and has given me Nystan cream which I can leave on my nips when feeding - seems to be helping in that my boobs are hurting less and dd2's tongue is getting less furry. Apparently, can't take anything orally if bf - oh well - glad my normal GP is back! Smile

Am trying to get dd2's feeding/sleeping pattern sorted out - she seems to want to feed during the night and sleep during the day - I was getting knackered. Then I picked up a bug which left me all feverish and going hot/cold - seem to be beter now.

Last night dd2 was grizzling, but I knew she wasn't hungry so I cuddled her in bed and she went to sleep allnight I might have to do this co-sleeping malarky.

Shh - had a quick look at GF to try to get dd2 into a bit of a routine - will pick up what I want - I def won't be doing all the expressing malarky etc.

Hope you are all O.K. - dd1 is now waking up.

Chloe55 · 24/03/2006 15:35

Sounds like your LO is following a fantastic routine Tabs - fancy throwing those sleeping vibes this way? Saying that, can't complain ds slept a atint of 4.5hrs last night (then just did 2) but was so happy with the 4.5 I wasn't bothered Grin He is much more awake during the day now - anyone else find that? He literally probably only sleeps for a couple of hours from 6am-6pm most days at the moment then he feeds/nappy change and sleeps for most of the night, not moaning as I would much prefer him this way but wondered if he was sleeping enough, it's as if he is tired but too scared to miss out on anything.

Went back into town today because I need an outfit for tonight. I have bought combats and a trendy shirt (very not me, I am normally a short skirt girl!) so I have gone from fancy evening wear to casual. I just thought that I would probably feel better therefore look better in stuff that completely covered me up, I'm determined to get back in them skirts at some point though!!! Or at 25yrs old do I just need to realise that I'm not 18 anymore Sad

I do feel better today though, and also a little guilty because I was really mean to dh last night even though he sat there whilst I pulled my wardobe to bits and he made light of the situation by trying to be Trinny and Susanah. I think I need to apologise to him when he gets home.

Hope everyone else is having a good Friday

Chloe55 · 24/03/2006 15:38

Hotmama - Do you have any pain/redness/swelling/lumps in your breasts? I ask because I felt all hot/cold/feverish the day before I started with mastitis but I managed to catch it really quickly so it cleared up immediately. Just watch out for any signs so if it wasn't just a bug you can get the GP ASAP.
