I started that post to Chloe yesterday, then had to go out!

Jas - it is the latching on the right nipple that I am seeing the chiro for. The rugby hold will help, but not for a few days... your nipple is already sore and bruised from bad latching, so until it heals with the rugby hold it will still hurt. It does start to feel much better though.

I'd forgotten how much wine I drank after DD was born! Not in vast amounts, just a small glass... but a small glass most nights - and its started again Blush. A small wine seems to take the edge off crying/worrying etc and I cope much better (do I sound like a mad alcoholic now???)

The first nighttime challenge last night... DS woke with wind, and DD started yelling with nightmares at the same time. We decided that nothing fixes DS's wind anyway, so we had to leave him to sort DD - DH went for a new bottle, while I tried to wake her. She is sooo hard with nightmares - you think she's woken and snapped out of it, but she's still asleep and just talking to you. Had to walk her to the bathroom and try and get her to drink some water - by the time we'd argued over her not wanting it, she was awake and out of the dream.

Then... took DS in our bed and tried the dummy again, which he took a little too well... it resulted in him sleeping an extra 2 1/2 hours before wanting a feed - and by that time I'd flooded breastpads, bra, nightie, bed, baby... I was too tired to get properly sorted, so spent the rest of the night with a towel wrapped round me because it seemed too much effort to find new bra and pads Blush.

DD has nursery this afternoon... trying to choose between going to shops in the gap, or coming home to watch Tru in peace!

Chloe55 · 21/03/2006 09:36

Flame - last night was the first night since I stopped bf that I didn't have a couple of glasses of wine - I think I am the alcoholic! Blush

When I got mastitis the doc advised me not to wear a bra to bed so I would wrap a massive towel round me which was just bloody uncomfortable and I still managed to leak right through and have to change the sheets every morning - nightmare! I am still leaking a little bit now (thought it would have totally dried up) but then I found a thread about women who still leak 2 years after stopping bf, arrrghhhh!!!

Off to get nappies/milk etc and then I am going to baby/toddler group for the first time this afternoon, was meant to go last week but something came up. Am a bit nervous to be honest - I hate going places where I don't know anyone but I'm sure I'll really enjoy it once I get to know people.

Hope you all had reasonable nights.

Does doing roughly the same thing at the same time 2 mornings in a row count as a routine Grin? I guess not, but it's a start! Got DD up between 7:15 and 7:45 (can't remember precisely!), fed her, changed her, had play time then nursed her through a paddy (yesterday due to hiccups, today colic which was eased by gripe water, which she hates taking!) then back into her basket for a sleep. Yesterday she slept for 1 1/2 hrs, today 1 1/2 so far so waiting to see if she can manage another sleep cycle (about 40-45mins) or not.

Only another 21 hours of the day to get into a routine now!!!!

Envy at all of you drinking wine. Would love a Baileys, or a JD and coke, but have only had 3 alcoholic drinks since August 2004, and don't plan to start again until stopped (or at least reduced due to weaning) breastfeeding.

Chloe - have fun at baby/toddler group. I have my bumps and babes meeting this afternoon too. Just plonk yourself down next to anyone and start chatting - I find people really friendly at these sort of things.

Jasnem · 21/03/2006 11:51

Definitely a routine TabsGrin
Boy has broken his routine, but he slept for 5 hours in a row last night(Happy dance) He woke up after 1/2 hour this morning though, and cried all round the shops/home. Has fially settled now, and I've cooked tonights tea. May go and do tomorrows in a bit.

I haven't had a drink since June last year, but can take it or leave it to be honest. May have some wine when not feeding quite so often. I have read stuff here that drinking while bf isn't a bad thing (in moderation, obviously)

I took the sheet off our bed yesterday, and forgot to put a clean one on. Only realised this morning that we were on the undersheet!I have to wear a bra to bed (think nips would be happier if I didn't) as the only time I leak is when feeding. The other side drips onto Boy.

Chloe - enjoy baby group. I've got good friends I met when DD1 was tiny through going to things like that. At one point I went to one every day during the week (2 small people are better out of the house, if one is screaming all day!)

Well, Boy is awake and crying, so no more cooking for me,I guess

Frizbe · 21/03/2006 14:16

Ah yes, reading Jas's post has just pointed out my flaw in this evenings dinner to me, you can't cook risotto if you have a baby on boob.....will have to see what time I manage to evolve dinner for tonight then....ahem.....you'd think I'd know by now to do easy to prepare and eat meals wouldn't you! totally killed the rice for last nights chilli, as it boiled dry in the time it took to feed dd2, who is having a sput it appears....

Chloe, hope you enjoyed playgroup thingy Smile

Jas what Buggy you got then?

Flame, lol at ds sleeping the extra, that's fab tho Grin I'm waiting for my excess milk to kick in, was going to try expressing later on this week, will see if that helps! (either that or dd is just drinking shed loads...)

Tabs that's defo a routine Smile well done you! I'm goning to try the wine again on Thurs, as its our wedding anniversary, awwwww.

4blue1pink · 21/03/2006 14:33

3k yes nystan - not doing much!

4blue1pink · 21/03/2006 14:43

feeding now and looking at boy its scaley betweeneyes on forehead anyone elses have this and what do you do?

YeahBut · 21/03/2006 15:29

Hi everyone. Just catching up with all the news! Alex is 8 weeks old today which I can hardly believe. Where does the time go? He's doing really well, although he's really bunged up with a yucky cold atm. I'm feeling a bit grotty too - I've got mastitis which has triggered off shingles. It's running along a nerve through one of my breasts which is making feeding a joy. Hoping that things will calm down soon - GP said anything from 2 - 6 weeks. But apart from that, we're all fine(!)

Chloe55 · 21/03/2006 16:15

Oooh Yeahbut, mastitis AND shingles - ouch!!

4b1p - My ds has a really scaley forehead, I am gonna ask the hv what I can put on it tomorrow. It isn't like flakey skin, it is quite thick and slightly yellowy.

My baby group was good. Only had a few tears from ds, he is the youngest there but he is bigger than some of the other babies! All the ladies seem nice.

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2006 18:24

Ow for mastitis and shingles!!!

I had the odd glass of wine during pregnancy, so am going with the theory that its already in his system! At the end of the day, it is relaxing me, which has gotta make things better all round (that could be why he slept so well last night though Blush).

Lovely day - he slept most of the morning so I could be with DD, woke to feed and then sat all cheery while I got lunch etc... then slept the entire time DD was at school, while I went shopping Grin. He woke starving, but I'll let him off Wink.

A bit :( I gave in and bought myself some jeans that fit... in a size 16. I know its not huge, and that Emrys isn't even 4 weeks yet, but its the biggest I've ever been, and I feel huge and lumpy. I was lulled into a false sense of security with DD... where I was so sick, I was back to normal clothes complete with a few stomach muscles fairly fast. Oh well, I guess with a newborn and a toddler, the weight should fall off!!!

Oooh, quick question - I was saying to my friend about wanting to go swimming, and she said that I can't go because I'll leak milk into the swimming pool! What do we think - would I??? I really want to start swimming again, but don't really fancy a milky trail behind me Blush I leak in the bath, but I think that is more heat....

Jasnem · 21/03/2006 19:02

YeahBut - Sad for you-must be pretty awful at the moment. Hope it's closer to two than 6 weeks for recovery.

Boy has been awake almost all day - messed up my plans this morning, and wanted feeding 2 hourly. Hope he settles tonight.

4b1p - Boy has what looks like bad dandruff at the moment. I'm not really doing anything with it to be honest, just hoping it clears up.

Frizbe -\link{http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/bugbbdanttipstokredgrey\this is my new buggy}. Just had an email telling me it should be delivered tomorrowSmile

Flame - saw my aquanatal lady ( the rubbish one was kicked out after the first week, and the old one is back)this week. She does post natal exercises, too, but said I should wait 'til 6 weeks before I go back. We always had post natal mums when I was there, and I never noticed any leaking milk!

I've decided that feeding lying down was causing the problem with my sore nipple - I had to do it alot when I had the infection as I couldn't sit comfortably. I'm getting up in the night to feed on that side, and it seems to be better today. Once I'm pain free I'll try the lying down again.

Flame - jeans that fit (whatever size) will always look better than trying to squeeze into too small ones. I'm not going to try and get into mine until all the clothes I'm wearing now start to fall off. I may go back to dungarees though ( the ones I wore for the first 5/6 months aren't maternity and I really liked them)

cuffyj1 · 21/03/2006 23:01

Hi everyone,

I'm on my own tonight dh is on nights. Just took me about 45 mins to get 5oz (he normally has 6oz quickly) of milk down ds as he kept falling asleep and just got him down to sleep so thought i'd have a quick catch up on here before going to bed myself.

Took him to be weighed again yesterday he's now 12lb 3 1/2oz, he was 11lb 1oz last monday so we must be doin something right.

Chloe - let me know wot hv says as i've noticed that on my ds forehead today.

I've been having a glass of wine too on a night (when i say wine i mean Lambrini)

Flame - I sympathise RE the jeans i gave in too and went to buy some but mine had to be size 20 Sad pre preg was a size 16.

4blue1pink · 21/03/2006 23:05

Cuffy and Chloe ...yes!!!! its like cradle cap but its not on head just forehead???
Please ask hv i am dying to know - its ruining him!

3k · 21/03/2006 23:06

4b1p - doctor gave Ben some gel for his thrush, said to put a bit on finger and scoop it around his mouth. Did this an hour ago - 1 min later he threw up!!!!! Will this thrush ever go?????????!!!!!!!!!

4blue1pink · 21/03/2006 23:08

3K tell me about it its getting me down!

Flamesparrow · 22/03/2006 08:09

:( for you thrush ladies, it sounds rough.

DS has a crusty forehead too... his looks more like he's still peeling though.

Much better night with him - lots of sleeping in his cot, and a big gap before the first feed (went well padded though so my bed survived Wink). Less fun with DD - woke 9.20 with nightmares again (more to the point, we had to wake her to snap her out of them... that took 10 mins in itself), and she was then up half an hour trying to settle her again. I thought we'd gotten off lightly with new baby reaction - I guess she's going to be like me though and deal with new things/stress with nightmares :(

Hugs to Cuffy about jeans!

Jas - the postnatal water classes hadn't occurred to me! Yay for no pools of milk Grin. I think you're doing the right thing not laying down to feed for a bit - I can still only do that with the good side, even though the other one is pretty much fixed now.

Everyone else - hellooooooooooooooooo!

Flamesparrow · 22/03/2006 08:11

Oooh, meant to say - New Look has long t-shirts for £4... various styles. I got some basic v-neck ones, they do good things for breastfeeding cleavage, but are longer so cover flabby belly Wink

hotmama · 22/03/2006 08:35

Morning girls. Smile

Been knackered for the last few days, dd2 has been a good sleeper e.g. 11.30 to 5.30 - has even slept until 8am - yippee! Shouldn't moan but it is the getting up at 5.30 that is killing me as I can't get back to sleep - would actually prefer her wanting to feed at 3ish - IYSWIM - sorry if I seem ungrateful. On Monday night she decided that she wasn't tired or hungry - just wanted to look around and chunter away - hence no sleep until 4am - I was very very knackered. Luckily, she slept from 10.30 until 5.30 last night so I feel a bit more human.

DD2 has put on 7ozs this week and now is 10.1 and a half - so I am relaxing about feeding as my boobs seem to be delivering the goods! Wink I only feed in the clutch hold (cross cradle) when the thrush has gone I'm going to try to get to grips with the traditional cradle hold - at the moment both hands are in use so can't pick up a drink or press the remote etc. Smile

Bloody thrush - why are we all suffering? Going back to the GP today as myself and dd2 still have it. Finished the Nystan and made no difference to dd2, I'm going to ask if I can take anything orally or is there anything that you can leave on your nips - I seem to put the cream on and dd2 wants to be fed so I have to wash it off straight away.

Hope everyone is O.K - will try to catch up with the posts. Smile

Flamesparrow · 22/03/2006 11:44

Is anyone else's as miserable with wind as mine? :( He finishes his feed and then just screams for ages until he falls asleep. Its getting better (as in he's starting to fall asleep faster!), but he just seems sooo miserable with it. I rarely get him happy, peaceful and awake.

Jasnem · 22/03/2006 12:08

I'm feeling much better, and feeding is getting more comfortable. Boy was weighed today, and is 10lb4ozGrin I just can't do small babies!

He is quite windy, but doesn't seem to suffer too much, and once awake can be alert for hours at a time, so not always whinging. Did 2 hourly feeding all night again, but I'm getting used to it. Don't want to get up in the morning, but once I'm up, I'm ok. It's the onl;y downside to the bigger gap (so far)...having to get my sleeping baby up and out to school. I'm sure he could sleep much larter in the mornings, but I have to get up when he wants feeding at 6/7 Will try and persuade the girls to watch videos on Sat am and let me sleep a bit more.

Have to tell you DD1 is a star - got herself ready for school in the morning, and when I came downstairs, she was busy making herself a packed lunch for schoolSmile

Tabs · 22/03/2006 13:26

Flame - am sure that Pippa would win hands down in a struggling with wind contest (unfortunately)! She won't just cry until she falls asleep - she literally can't sleep because of it. We use infacol before every feed, and then gripe water when she still gets whingey, which seems to be up to 45 mins after a feed. This is what her osteopath is now working on. One technique to try if you can't bring his wind up the normal way is to try holding him upright and walking up the stairs. DH read this in one of his fatherhood books, and it does seem to work occasionally.
Massage is supposed to help too - I don't know much about how to do that at the mo, but am booked on a course soon.

OP posts:
ellenrose · 22/03/2006 14:05

Had Maisie weighed yesterday 12lb 10oz Grin

Sad sorry to hear the thrush and wind is causing so much upset - we have been lucky so far.

Am running (or more likely walking) the Race for Life in May so desperately hoping that some of the weight shifts soon - I clearly read too many of the posts saying that breast-feeding makes the weight fall off you - no with me Blush

Chloe55 · 22/03/2006 14:07

Well have been to see HV, ds now weighs 12lbs 2oz but I am a bit disappointed as he has dropped down one of those curves Sad HV says it is nothing to worry about and is probably due to the swop from breast to formula. Also asked her about his forehead - she wasn't much help I'm afraid girls - she just told me not to use anything in his bath water (I don't use anything on his face anyway) and that if it doesn't clear up to see the doc, again she didn't seem concerned. Neither did she seem concerned that some days he eats twice as much as other days so I guess either I am just a worrier or she was having a bad day and couldn't be bothered to be concerned about anything!

Lucy1977 · 22/03/2006 15:59

Hi there

Just came across thig thread, I dont come on MN very often but thought I'd say hi as my DD was born in Feb 06!

Hotmama - Daktarin gel is supposed to be the best oral treatment for babies for thrush and diaflucan (or any brand from flucanzole) are fab tablets is you have the thrush in your milk ducts (pain deep in your breats - mine felt like somone was stricking pins in my nipples as well)

HTH

Lucy
