Morning girls,

This routine thing is painful - thought it was meant to improve things! Dh gets in at 6.30pm so he gives ds his bath and bottle then we try to get him bed by about 7-7.30pm, however, the 4 nights we have done this he screams in his crib until about 8.30pm, there just seems to be no settling him, we have tried giving him a cuddle then putting him back down, sitting next to the crib for 30mins at a time, checking his nappy, resorting to trying him with more food - nothing works and the only way he gets to sleep is when he has worn himself out from crying. DH is getting upset coz he only ever sees him at this time and he spends most of it crying. He is not normally a cry baby and he only ever cries during the day when he wants/needs something. Can anyone see any flaws in what we are doing?

Oh, the car is well and truly knackered, I am officially housebound until it is fixed Sad

Tabs · 29/03/2006 09:52

Fab timing TicTac - glad you are all well.

Chloe - routine sounds fine to me with all my experience Wink. Have you made doubley sure that he doesn't have any wind in him, as that certainly induces crying here. Also, have you looked at what is happening before this routine starts - maybe he hasn't been up long enough to tire himself out by then, so you could try more activities just beforehand?

Ooh - gotta go, think DD waking up!

Hi Tictac, glad all is ok with you!

Chloe, routine looks fine to me, like Tabs says double check for wind, I remember doing the bed thing with dd1, and we left her one night in the end until she screamed herself to sleep, but after that, she seemed to get the message and slept from then onwards....I guess its just getting used to being without mum n dad......given the option you would scream right! but your doing the right thing, stick with it, better the screaming now, than in 6mths time right Smile n {{{Hugs}}}
Which reminds me, we'd better get into the bed thing in a few weeks.....(we're not at 4 weeks even here yet!)
Hope all are ok, we had an every 3 hrs feed thing last night, argh!

Jasnem · 29/03/2006 10:31

Frizbe - I was feeing DS every hour until 1am last night. He seems to think night is midnight to midday, as he will sleep loads then! Wewere late for school again today, as we all went back to sleep this morning after the 6am feed.

Tic tac - glad you are ok.

Chloe - I don't think you're doing anything wrong either. If you delay bedtime 'til 8 does he just cry 'til 9? If not, I'd have a later bedtime and just sneak it forward by 10 mins a night 'til he goes when you want.
I'd be happy with 10pm myself at the moment!

Morning everyone - welcome back TicTac. Smile

Re routines: Dd1 goes to bed about 7ish and then sleeps through until about 7am - and has done for ages - hurray! Smile

Dd2 goes to bed when we do about 11ish has her last feed in bed then she falls asleep and then I 'push' her into the drop-sided crib. She then wakes up just before 7 sometimes nearer 6 gets 'dragged' in for a feed when she promptly falls asleep again. Myself and dp get up, he has a shower etc and I wake up dd1 and get her ready for nursery etc. This is my routine at the moment. Smile

If I remember, this is the routine we had with dd1, I didn't start to try putting her down early until she was about 3 months and think I will do the same with dd2 - then I can have an evening with dp. I just need to getting feeding into more of a set routine - will be working on this over the next month.

Got my 6 week check at the hosp today other than that it is supposed to be a housework day! Wink

ixel · 29/03/2006 16:01

Sad Have got mastitis. Going to see doc at 5pm, as I feel like I'm dying, so it warranted using up an emergency appointment slot. I've also committed the cardinal sin of stopping feeding on that side... I know it'll be worse with engorgement, but its so painful. Really stinging nipple, and if even the duvet brushes the rest of my flesh, its agony. Its all red on the whole of the underside. I'm really hoping dh gets home in time, so I dont have to take the kids, as I cant face getting them both ready and in the buggy (ds1 having a late nap and will have a tantrum when woken). And then all the hassle of padlocking the buggy in the foyer because they're not allowed inside but you have to take it in to collect the key!!)
I think I've left it too long with no feeding now (been using the expressed), so have a feeling this could be the start of formula. I have enough expressed in the freezer to prob last until he's a round 6 weeks.

Other than that, all going ok! Had a nice morning at Hatfield Galleria in the soft play, stopped to get ds2's eye cream on the way home.. he's caught conjunctivitis drom ds1. Phoned nhs direct last night to see if we could use the same cream.Ended up with a docs app 45 mins later in a hospital that takes 45mins to get to on the bus, so got dressed and called a cab... what a hassle. Just got there, ans ended up with a prescription for the same cream anyway!

But I did bite the bullet and buty a skirt and 2 pairs of knickers in a bigger size yesterday. Feel huge, but at least I have some clothes!

Chloe55 · 29/03/2006 17:02

Sympathies with the mastitis Ixel.

Right, I truly think I have the most wide awake child through the day! Ds has slept for a total of an hour today in bouts of about 20mins, I have walked the dog in an attempt to make him sleep but he just looked about. He isn't grumpy and will happily amuse himself for 15mins or so at a time in his pram so I don't think he is tired - if he doesn't sleep well tonight then I have an abnormal child!! Grin

Flamesparrow · 29/03/2006 21:39

Not got enough energy to reply to everything - I will try tomorrow... just thought I should stick my head in - I'm on here so often I didn't want you to worry by 24 hrs break Wink

Flamesparrow · 30/03/2006 09:00

Had some sleep, and I've now forgotten everything Blush

Huge hugs to Ixel - mastitis is horrible :(

Grrr @ Chloe's car.

The rest - I'll read back through again later!!!

Long couple of days - My birthday was good, but yesterday was spent at my friend's who's DD is going in to have her tonsils removed today, so my friend was all worked up and panicky... I was meant to be keeping her calm, but I thin kI failed miserably :( I'm spending today looking after her other children (I'll have 6 by 4pm), and have no idea when I'll get home... then I get the youngest again during the day tomorrow. I'm a tad exhausted already, so I might be rocking in a corner by the end of Friday.

Good news from chiropractor - the work has stayed fixed for over a week, so he doesn't have to go back for a month Grin Oooh, and DS is getting even better with the fist... even gets his mouth about as often as his cheek now (although it is cute watching him with his mouth desperately trying to find it, while he bashes hell out of his cheek Wink).

Jasnem · 30/03/2006 10:51

Morning,
Quick visit while bath is running, babys not happy so may well end up in with me.
SadIxel at mastitis. I've never had it but it really sounds quite horrific.

GRRRRR at DP. This morning he said "oh you haven't told any one the baby's called Leon have you? NO. Just everyone I know!
He's not sure any moreAngry
I'm still calling him Leon unless he comes up with a really good alternative tonight. Sick of the dithering about!

He (ds not dp) slept better last night, but didn't go back to sleep this morning. Not helped by DP waking him for a cuddle at 6am before work.
House is a tip and I look like a bag lady today, so got to wash and clean now.

Hope yopu are all well.

ixel · 30/03/2006 11:34

He IS going to be called Boy forever Smile
Feeling quite proud as I suffered the pain and fed 10mins/expressed 200ml from the mastitis side in the night. Sooooo sore, but much better to be emptied!

Helen38 · 30/03/2006 12:55

Ouch ixel mastitisnot fun but well done for making yourself feed from that side it's the only way to get through it. When I had it last week I found that I had fed and expressed but still felt lumpy so got in a deep warm bath and massaged towards the nipple with my boob under water, loads more came out and it felt so much better and I got it really empty. Also if you massage in the same way while feeding it seems to help empty you better. Hope you feel better soon.

Chloe55 · 30/03/2006 13:13

Well, after another 2hours constant crying ds slept from 9pm-2am, then until 6am!!!! Woohoo!! I think it probably has more to do with the fact he had hardly slept an was so tired from crying but I am hoping it is a start of good things. I have found out why we hav been having some serious screaming episodes without being able to control them - colic Sad So, for all the others suffering with colicky babies I now have evry sympathy with you. He has been really tummyachey again today - I think he needs a poo and has a bit of constipation, he is asleep now though, bless him.

I hope you stick with Leon Jasnem.

Gald you enjoyed your bday Flame. You always seem to be in charge of a rediculous amount of children, I don't know how you do it!

Hope the mastitis is feeling a bit better.

Flamesparrow · 30/03/2006 13:58

I do it with lots of coffee, and then when I get home... wine Grin

Luckily DD is overtired and whingey, and godson is worried about his mummy (who was a wreck yesterday over hospital) and also ovetired, so they are squabbling their little hearts out Grin... oh the joys! On the bright side, DS is asleep on the sofa.

:( for colicky man Chloe. I'm waiting to see if we're going to have colic or not... the chiro fixed it with DD, so I'm intrigued to see if it will happen where DS has already been treated. I know its a long way in the future, but a ray of light for you - your wakey daytime will in time become a wakey daytime toddler... and will crash out so soundly at bedtime that you will get a great routine Wink. (You do then end up pregnant again and begging the wakey toddler to sleep.... hmmm, bright idea looks less bright now!!!). But seriously - it is lovely to have one so awake, even if it is exhausting... I spend all my time looking at a sleeping child, and am suddenly remembering how nice it was to get all those grins.

DS slept in his cot all night Grin. Went down about 10.45, slept til 1.40, fed, then back in cot until 6.30am! Shock Best night so far and soooooooooo needed!

3k · 30/03/2006 14:05

Hi Ladies.

Hope the mastitis gets better Ixel, doesnt sound like fun Sad

Ben was six weeks old last Sunday and weighs 11lbs 8oz so is doing well. He has his first jab in two weeks which I'm not looking forward to!!

I had to go and get my c-section scar checked yesterday as I thought it was infected as there was gunk coming out. The nurse said it wasnt infected but has split open at the end so she has dressed it and I need to go back tomorrow. It's not too bad just a little sore really.

We have had two nights where Ben has gone to sleep around 10.30pm and slept to 3.30am so fingers crossed this is the start of a routine. He is also starting to spend more time awake and not wanting to feed as I was feeding him every 1.5 - 2.5 hours during the day but he is taking his whole 4oz and then quite content for at least two hours. I have managed to hoover the whole house this morning!!!

Frizbe · 30/03/2006 15:09

Hope scar heals soon 3k....

Flame, far too many kids your dealing with there! you should charge!! Grin

Jas, agree with sleep pattern, we have a midnight to midday sleep thing too.....
I'm starting to think you should call baby Boy Jas, worked for Boy George right! Grin seriously tho, I like Leon too.....

Hotmama I like your routine, well done!

Ixel, ouch hon Sad really hope it clears up soon {{{Hugs}}}

Oh gaw'd I should really go and pump, whilst both kids asleep, but I'm waiting for the accountant to call me with some figures, as it looks like I've balls'd the vat up last time around, so have to amend it this time around....rubbish, just what I don't need and it has to go in post tonight, or won't get there for tomorrow....then we get fined...argh! I do not need this........all the fault of me clicking the wrong button on the computerised report last time and not noticing....oopse

Flamesparrow · 30/03/2006 15:16

I plan to pump lots tomorrow, and try and sleep most of Saturday Grin.

I try and give my friend mine fairly often, but starting to think charging sounds better... the 5:2 ratio doesn't seem very fair really!

Frizbe · 30/03/2006 15:40

Sleep most of sat Grin oh how I'd love too.....unfortunatley my pumping isn't providing enough food for me to do that at the mo.....got hardly owt the day before yest, but managed nearly 2 oz again yest? seems to depend on time of day/madam not drinking it all, all the time!! Grin I'm not of the fastest flow/largest amts so it would seem.......

Luckily accountants rang back asap, so have sorted vat out, phew, and put cheque into post, which involved loading two sleeping kids into car seats/car, driving to postbox and back again, what a palava!

Flamesparrow · 30/03/2006 19:32

HOME!!!!

Glad your tax got sorted Frizbe. Sorry about the pumping Blush... I tend to forget that others have more problems with it.

I attached him to the bad side at 6.30 this morning, and must have kept dozing off, because I was thinking he'd only been on a few minutes and fallen asleep, and kept reattaching him (with some reluctance on his part) - after a while he was more just fiddling than feeding. The I realised it was gone 8 and the poor little guy was just plain full - it was me falling asleep.... but all of that seems to have had a good effect - its kickstarted production in that side, and I'm feeling like I did when my milk came in!!!

ixel · 30/03/2006 21:33

3k.. I'm sure the scar seems worse than it is, even if you're not too worried... mine opened up alot last time, and still nothing bad came of it. It helps to not look too much!!

Thanks for everyone's sympathy re the mastitis. I feel heaps better today, but I still dont know how I managed to feed off that side when it was so bad. Felt worse than the c section!! The only thing is, ds2 hasn't done so much poo in the last 24hours, so I'm just hoping my supply is still enough for him, and it wasn't messed up. Seemed enough when I expressed. And he doesn't seem unduly bothered, but then again he never has, even when not gaining weight!!
BTW, just picture dh's face when he walked in the bedroom to see me trying the suggested way of painless feeding... ds2 on the bed, with me on all fours kneeling over him dangling my boob in his mouth Grin . It worked well, if you're interested!

Ds1 went to a friends house today, and had his first ever go on one of those little motorised quad things... he just adored it! Had mastered three point turns after 5 minutes! So I'm now trying to work out how to sell some stuff to get him one... I'm a sucker for good toys and a happy little face Grin

ixel · 30/03/2006 21:36

Frizbe... are you hand pumpimg, or electric? I found that the hand pump with ds1 got almost nothing out, but have borrowed an electric this time and its miles better. Unless its just my body thats different this time.

Jasnem · 31/03/2006 00:02

i am so tired and angry.
I've been feeding ds for 6 hours almost nonstop. My r breast is painful, the nipple is raw, and ds wouldn't settle at all.
At 11.30 I asked dp(who was watching tv) to take him for 1/2 hor and try to settle him for me...At 11.38 dp comes up to bed wth him only half asleep, puts him on the bed by me, and when he wakes and cries again tells me he has to go to work, and i will have to sort him out.

Was 1/2 an hour really too much to ask?I feel like he couldn't really support me less if he tried.

Jasnem · 31/03/2006 07:59

Better this morning. I did get some sleep, and am going uot today with riends.
My right breast is still hard and painful despite lots of feeding. It hurts even more when I feed. Could it be the start of mastitis (no redness though), or something else?

Jasnem · 31/03/2006 07:59

Or even out with friends!
