always have to do 'it' within a few weeks of delivery and then feel better about self!!! Baby sleeping well - feeling a bit blue but think its calm after storm and inevitable!

hope all well - sore wounds sound nasty!

Boy six weeks tomorrow and we are just ignoring it as he is unnmaed Blush are expecting a telling off letter but does anyone know what will actually happen?

Tabs · 27/03/2006 14:26

4b1p - I think that one of the 'authorities' can name your child if you haven't done so by 6 weeks, but not sure if they actually would in practice.

Thanks for all of your responses re sex - might make DH read the thread next time he mentions it at an inopportune moment!

Cuffy - Ds actually seemed much comfier in the travel cot because he sleeps in a star fish position and he just doesn't fit his crib well now. We bought a decent mattress to go in the cot as like you say the one that comes with it is pretty hard and I just don't particularly trust them. I am either thinking about buying a travel cot for our bedroom (instead of the crib) or putting him in the nursery in the big cot as he just bangs his arms into the bars on the crib at the moment and he won't tolerate swaddling. Is it too soon to put him in a separate bedroom at 6 weeks? They advise 6mth don't they but I can't see what difference it makes if you use a monitor, what are other peoples opinions?

Oh and Cuffy - salt water bathe your scar and if it hasn't improved by wednesday I would definitely go back to the GP, sooner if it gets worse.

Tabs · 27/03/2006 15:40

Chloe - the reason (got this from a nurse) that they advise keeping them in with you until 6 months is because their lungs have to work harder if they are sharing a room with you, as the 2 (or 3 counting DH) of you are fighting for the same oxygen. This apparently makes them nice and strong. If they are in a room on their own then it is easier for them, and therefore they are more likely to forget to breathe!

I have to say that this is another of those things that I was adament I would do before I had DD, but am now wondering about. She won't fit in her basket for much longer, and am tempted to put her in her cot in her own room in a week or two, rather than try to re-arrange all the furniture to fit it in our room.

Both your DS and my DD are quite strapping, rather than being tiny frail babies, so I kind of figure their lungs are quite strong already and they should be fine on their own.

Chloe55 · 27/03/2006 15:47

Wow - I would never had guessed that was the reason why, guess it makes sense but seems pretty far-fetched. Like you say Tabs, our LOs are probably the weight of some 3/4month old babies and I just think it would be unrealistic to keep them in a crib/moses basket until 6mths. DS is already in 3-6mth old babygros!

hotmama · 27/03/2006 16:19

Chloe/Tabs - I moved dd1 into her own room when she was 16 weeks (just before I had sex again Wink). Be prepared to have your eyes fixed on the baby monitor all night though - I did. Blush

Even now I check her room every time I go to the loo during the night.

Dd2 is already out of the moses basket, I have a drop-sided crib next to the bed and she is in the beloved sleeping bag so no kickiing off covers. Smile

IMHO, many babies get moved to their own rooms before they are 6 months - like you say they are good sizes - and you will be checking every 5 minutes - but get a monitor for peace of mind. Smile

I'm not sure when dd2 will get moved as I'm still bf, dd1 wasn't by the time she moved and dd1 wasn't waking in the night and dd2 feeds once/twice a night so uhm ....HTH

3k · 27/03/2006 16:25

Hi ladies,

It has taken me ages to read todays messages!!

Congrats hotmama, thats great news. Look forward to hearing about wedding plans etc.

Ben is also getting too big for his moses basket and will probably be in his own cot in his nursery in a few weeks. He will be 2 months old at least by then and I'm sure he will be fine by then.

I am very proud of myself as today I managed to get into town with Ben and open his child trust fund and also have my post natal blood test, get nappies and a few other bits and get home again with Ben sleeping!!! Am allowed to drive now he is 6 weeks old. BTW they have 3 for 2 on Huggies in Boots at the moment so I stocked up!!

As for sex, not done that yet!!! My c-section scar keeps weeping and is also red, doctor said to keep cleaning it and it is a little better. Am determined not to go back on the pill as was on that for years and I'm convinced that's why it took IVF for me to get pregnant, going to try condoms and then hopefully will start for baby number 2 next summer and wont have any problems (fingers crossed)

Having Ben weighed again tomorrow, he was 10lbs 11oz last week. Chloe what is Oscar now? Our little ones share the same birthday so it's good to compare. Cant believe he is in 3-6 months clothes although Ben is long so I think he will be too!!

Helen38 · 27/03/2006 16:40

Re yucky scars, put some lavender oil in bath water is much better than salt need to do it every day tho.

Jasnem · 27/03/2006 16:44

Boy is 4 weeks, 1 day and in 3-6 month clothes. He's 11lb already! Do I win a prize for baby putting on the most/fastest weight?Grin

3k · 27/03/2006 16:46

I reckon Jas!!!! That's good though, shows he's thriving. I think Ben will be 11.5lbs tomorrow although last week he put on a whole pound in a week.

ellenrose · 27/03/2006 17:35

CONGRATULATIONS HOTMAMA Smile DS1 & 2 in my wedding photos too - it was great.

Sex has resumed in our house but it was bordering on the ridiculous finding time when all kids finally asleep - a little bit "under starters orders" so looking forward to having a little more time. Wink DH was a bit put off for a few weeks having viewed the stitching process at such close quarters but now all healed I have booked to have my coil fitted in a couple of weeks.

Was utterly convinced we would not have a fourth given the SPD probs but the thought of this being the last baby is pulling at the heart-strings.

Jasnem · 27/03/2006 17:38

Boy is Boy no more...He's LeonGrin
I just have to get used to calling him it now.

Flamesparrow · 27/03/2006 17:56

Grin Yay for Leon!!!

You've all been far too busy today. I left DS for a whole hour today... and was all panicky by the end of it Blush. I was also slightly damp! There was a newborn crying with hunger in Sainsbury's, and my breasts went into overdrive - I ended up with a soggy t-shirt and no baby!!!

How come all your babies are so big?? DS is 10lb 7oz now (so not far off the 10lb 11), and is only just growing out of the 50cm size clothes - his 7.5lb adams dungarees are only fitting on the legs because the nappies make his bum so big! I think he must just have heavy bones Grin

I've completely forgotten who else I wanted to reply to!!!!

Jasnem · 27/03/2006 18:04

My DDs are huge too...both tubby babies, and now slim and (very) tall. DD1 is the height of the average 8/9yr old - she"s 6.
I'm guessing Leon Grin will be taller still, as He"s a boy.

Wanted to say about babies in your room.. Didn't know why you shopuld do it either. Both Dds were over 6 months and L will probably be 2 years as we don't have a room for him!

ixel · 27/03/2006 18:43

I was getting used to the idea of you registering him as Boy!

Think ds2 will be in our room longer than 6 months, as he's going to share a room with ds1. I dont trust him not to poke him or something, so will have to see if he's matured in 5 months time! It would be nice to get my space back in the bedroom, but also I know he's the last baby, so I have a feeling I might want to keep him in there a bit longer! Tabs... if that is the reason for sharing a room, then both my boys must have incredible lungs from fighting for oxygen with the incredible snoring dh!

Went to clinic today... he is 10lb 14ozs now. Putting on 10ozs in a week isn't bad, considering how hard its been for him up till now Smile We also had to see the doc as his milk spots are so bad... got some cream. They're all over his face, chest, and shoulders.

Also went to Abbey to open his savings account, and the rules have changed, so they cant take our Abbey mortgage, Abbey current account, 4 Abbey savings accounts, utility bill and TSB Visa as enough proof of ID. So have to trek back up there tomorrow Angry

Sex... never again! Only joking, but it'll def be with the lights out when we do get round to it, as I've got such an overhanging belly and big scar now. I'm VERY self conscious. And the stretchies are like a circle of weathermap icebars.
Dh is getting the snip when ds2 is about 6 months. I know we cant have any more, but I'm still feeling a bit sad about it already. Does anyone know if you can have it on the NHS without a medical rason?

Flamesparrow · 27/03/2006 19:02

Oooh, that was one of the things I meant to respond to. DD went into her own room in big cot at about 6 weeks - she was a very noisy sleeper and I was getting no sleep. I wasn't even aware at the time that you were meant to keep them with you for x amount of time!!!

No idea when DS will move - at the moment he's refusing to sleep alone, so not an issue Angry (although DD was with us for nearly the whole 6 weeks too...). Much more lazy with everything this time round, so probably be in his own room when he's grown out of the travel cot, because neither me nor DH will be bothered to build the proper cot Grin Really should bath this child occasionally too.... BlushGrinWink

ixel · 27/03/2006 19:10

That sounds familiar. I used to bath ds1 religiously. Ds2 has only had 4 I think, in his 5 week life. That includes the one I didn't even do myself, in hospital!

Jasnem · 27/03/2006 20:04

My girls share a room - part of the reason DD2 was in with us for 12 months. But I had them both in cots for a while so it wasn't too unsafe when they went in together.

I'm sure your belly takes longer to recover after a cs Ixel. In fact I'm convinced mine is already better now than before I got pg this time. I could feel a 2 " gap in the muscles down the middle before, and now its 2 cm! I must have been using muscles while I was pg.
It will get better eventually Smile

Helen38 · 27/03/2006 21:50

Not so hot on the bathing the baby here eitherGrin he hates it and gets very sad, not a fan of having his nappy changed either, screams the house down mostly.

Am sat cuddling him as he is very sad and won't settle, have fed him and changed about 5 nappies and fed him but he just not happy. Dh has had to go into work so I'm on my own and my boobs are killing me Sad

Was going to say stuff but screaming baby has made me forget so I'm off, night all.

Frizbe · 27/03/2006 21:52

yikes how many posts!
Congrats Hotmama!! wil post more later guys!

Flamesparrow · 27/03/2006 23:38

Awww, hope your boobs are feeling better Helen!

I'm tired, I wanna go to bed, but DS is trying to get himself to sleep in his cot, and his muttering is too loud for me to sleep, but not enough to warrant me interfering, so I'm hiding downstairs til he's done.

Grin He's starting to find his thumb!!! I had a couple of sessions of holding his fist by his mouth so that he could suck it, and now he's starting to look for it himself... sometimes he gets his fingers sorted to suck his thumb, the rest of the time its the whole fist in there :)

Chloe55 · 28/03/2006 08:36

Morning girls,

Flame - my ds does have a dummy from time to time when he won't settle but tbh most of the time he finds his fist, why is it most of us go through the whole sterilising process when our LOs are mostly attached by the mouth to hands/jumpers/toys/the dog Grin

Jasnem - glad you opted for Leon, we had considered that name at one point too.

Ixel - I have an account with the Abbey and I find them utterly crap, it took me over a year to change to my married name on my bank account, partly because I am slack but mostly because they could never make their minds up if I needed to make a bloody appointment or I was told to bring the wrond documents....useless!!

3K - ds weighed 12lbs 2oz last wed, gonna weigh him again a week on wed.

Cuffy - If you are up for it a few mnetters are meeting for a cuppa/poss walk if weather is good this wednesday at Bretton Park, give us a shout if you are inerested and I will link the details.

Hope everyone else is well.

Flamesparrow · 28/03/2006 08:44

Grin He settled himself in the end!

Tis my birthday!!! DD is going out from about lunchtime, and me n DS are going for lunch with my mum then shopping. My friend is cooking us a meal tonight. :)

hotmama · 28/03/2006 08:49

Good morning everyone!

I'm sooo glad about the discussion re baths - I thought I was being so slack. dd1 def got more baths. Dd2 gets her face washed every day but has a bath once a week if she is lucky - thought it was just me being crap. WinkBlush

Flame - is it your birthday today? - I have a vague recollection that it was just after mine - if it is Happy Birthday. Grin

Dd2's sleeping is going well, last feed about 11ish then feed her in bed about 7 - seems she is going to be like dd1 - hurray! Grin

Chloe55 · 28/03/2006 09:10

Happy Birthday Flame, also, forgot to wish you Happy Birthday too Hotmama, sorry Blush
