She signs "nappy change" when she's poo-ed so we're kind of worried that she might end up being potty trained before her stubborn brother (3.5) Wink

2Happy · 03/04/2006 21:22

Well, dh's grampa passed away in the early hours of the morning Sad. Thanks for everyone's kind words. Now we're trying to work out what to do with ds and the funeral. I'm worried he'd giggle his way through the service, which might lighten the tone, but I think it could offend one or two Blush It's hard to know what to do for the best.
On a lighter note though, mcmudda I am soooo impressed with your dd's signing, that is just fabulous! Good for you and her! ds shows no interest whatsoever and I must admit my frantic arm waving has waned slightly recently Blush

muma3 · 04/04/2006 12:15

hi all xxx

just a quick catch-up. im still here and havent heard anything more about this house being ready. they did say middle of april so its just a case of waiting for the phone call argghhhh Grin

dd3 is crawling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! started of as a sniper cralw but as she has got more confident and now she is enjoying getting around she has found her knees and is just practicing.

easter hols - kids are arguing and house is more of a mess then ever. 2 days in and im going mad already.

going to the zoo at the weekend and i cant wait to see dd3 face she is so interested in everything.

our puppy is doing fine , took her to billing aquadrome which is like a caravan park/funfair/lakes and she dived in the water after the ducks . was so amusing to see her trying to swim Smile, met a man who was really interested in her as she is a weird breed (puginese) and we got talking . found out that he has a terminally ill 1y at home and i was nearly crying . they were taking their ds out and having some restbite. i felt awful pushing dd3 in her buggy , his wife wouldnt come anywhee near me and dp and dd3. we are so lucky Smile

hope all mummies and baby junies are doing well catch up soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

sfxmum · 04/04/2006 14:07

hello allSmile

giddy - glad the meeting seems positive, nonsense about money, its the start of the financial year, they should show some good will. i meant to post some links which might help, esp. planning more long term. its frustrating not being able to help more, somehow services available vary so much from area to area and i dont know how its organised there.
will post them later. take care hope you well.

2happy- sorry for your loss.

mcmudda- i am still bf too about 3X a day. i will drop the midday one around mid may just before i go back to work, then stick to am and bedtime.
impressed with the signing!

lummox- dd was bf and also had bottles of ebm from birth until about 4M, since then no bottles she drinks water from both avent and tommy cups with spout.
i have started using formula to make cereal and get her used to taste, i plan to introduce some formula in a cup shortly will keep posted, do not plan on going back to bottles at all.

hope all nasty bugs have left the little ones
take care all

giddy1 · 04/04/2006 14:34

2happy...Sad I don't think anyone would be offended or notice your little one making a noise. You can always just slip outside if you are finding it a bit much.
Sfx... I have just realised about "the new financial year" and have that in mind when the outcome of the "panels findings" are revealed to us. Thanks for offering to help with some info.xxx
I feel loads more relaxed as dd1 has been away since friday. She will be back briefly tomorrow for a couple of days and then returns to respite care for a bit.
Mumma3....Billing!!!!!!!!! heehee we have stayed there a couple of times as it is quite near for us and was always handy for dd1 to have a short holiday without much travelling. She is too big for the rides now.
I used to go for days out there as a kiddy too Blush
Jess is enjoying a more relaxed house and deciding whether she can be bothered to crawl or notGrin She is leaning more to the can't be bothered side at the moment (and I am very greatful) I want to delay it as long as possible to be honest.
DH is having next week off work and I am going to give him a list of chores as long as his arm Wink
Actually we are going to rip the upstairs bathroom out (shitty avacado suite has to go!!!) and put a basic white one in. I have a shower room downstairs but the baby freaks when I take her in the shower with me. I have been putting her in the washing up bowl inside the Belfast sink in the kitchen. This makes me increasingly nervous as she is pulling herself up a little and I have visions of her landing on the terracotta tiled floor Blush. Soooooooooooooo sorry to waffle I have decided that the upstairs bathroom has GOT TO BE DONE!!!!!!!

Everyone, I hope you are well !!!

Yorky..... hello babe Smile

lua · 04/04/2006 22:05

Hello all! and a special welcome back to Skyler!
Giddy - glad things seem to be on the mend! Have fun with your bathroom project....
Lummox - DS has been drinking his milk in a beaker since 6 months. He now insists in having his water on a "open cup", though... He still don'e say not even da-da, but grunts and point with all his might at what he wantsGrin.
He still bf all the time when I am around, and the little cheeky monkey want his boobs while he "reads" a book now at night....Shock As you can all imagine the bedtime routine is getting a bit difficult this way!

Bubbs - well done on the diet! I am in for some rude awakening I suspect when i stop bfing.... I am still eating for three....

Skyler · 04/04/2006 22:29

Hello all. Thanks for the welcomes back!
2happy - Sorry for your loss Sad.
McMudda - Wow on the signing. DD1 never got to grips with it as a baby but we have a Makaton video and nursery rhymes book and she LOVES Something Special on BBC2 and signs along with Justin now she is three lol!
DD2 walks along with us holding her hands and gets SOOOOO excited by it all. Very cute.
She is a nightmare sleeper though and was up three times last night for an hour at a time. I was beside myself I was SOOO tired. There has to be an end to this. I bought a dummy today to give her tonight to see if it makes a difference. I am sure she won't take it but I have to try something. Have told dh he will have to take over at a weekend as I am trying to stop the nightfeeds and if I go to her she gets hysterical and works herself up into a frenzy if I don't feed her whereas she will settle with dh. I wish these teeth would arrive too. Numbers 9 and 10 are on the verge of erupting and causing her some probs.
More family arriving tomorrow so will catch up soon. Take care all xxx
Giddy - Glad you have had a break!

giddy -have a look at \link{http://valuingpeople.gov.uk\this}
and \link{http://housingoptions.org.uk\this}
sorry am rubbish at links and i really hope this works. the first one has good links in resources page, the second is mostly about housing.
hope things are better. take care

sfxmum · 05/04/2006 11:02

hello allSmile sorry was just concentrating on making the links work.

skyler - sorry about the nights that is painful. dd usually sleeps with us and these days she mostly just needs a reassuring pat and she is off back to sleep. but we do have the odd night when she nurses at 3am.

i hope all are ok.
i keep up with my morning running its going ok and i am increasing the times over the weekend. really pleased i started, that time in the morning running/ walking alone by the river, is the only time i have just for myself and i cherish it.
i will stop babbling now take care

teabelly · 05/04/2006 13:41

Afternoon ladies Smile

Skyler, blimey teeth 9 & 10 ! DD had two at about 6mths; and at 10mths she still has 2 with apparently no more on the horizon! Grin

Lua - it's a good job your ds doesn't say much, when he's married to my dd he won't be able to get a word in anyways so it's best he doesn't learn something he won't be able to enjoy later, he he he! Wink

Lummox - no I missed all the furore, but tbh it's that kind of thing that made me leave other forums, some people seem to always get personal Sad, we all have an opinion and that's as it should be but defamation is so unnecessary whatever the subject matter.

SFX, sooo you may make the marathon afterall Wink. I certainly don't have the energy you do, it's all I can do to get me and the kids up and dressed in the morning in time for work! ShockGrin

Cups / bottles...dd has a bottle for bedtime & nighttime feeds and non spill sippy cups for daytime feeds. But she has been known to steal ds's fruitshoot bottles when he's too slow to react Wink

Well dd has most definitely mastered the art of crawling over walking as the speediest method of independent travel, so I guess it's time to hunt those stair gates out of the attic...18 months of stubbed toes here I come!! WinkGrin

katzg · 05/04/2006 16:03

Hi All

Cups/bottles - DD2 is currently breast fed at night but has a cup during the day, rather strangely we are trying to get her to take a bottle so that DH can do the night time feeds too! she will only take an ounce or so or milk from the cup so hoping that the bottle she will take more!

Well my little walking machine is going great guns and there is now no stopping her except perhaps socks on the wooden floor!! she seems so happy with herself when she up and walking, she can now stand up from sitting without needing anything to pull up on and she thinks this is the beesknees especially as she can now take DD1's toys hostage on her jaunts around the room!

OP posts:
lummox · 05/04/2006 17:01

Thanks for the info on cups/bottles. People whose dcs are having milk from a sippy cup, is that a whole milk feed (8 oz ish)? i think it would take ds an age to drink that much.

lua · 05/04/2006 21:33

Lummox- yes, DS can hold and drink from an open cup. At the same time as he reads the newspaper and sing an aria..... not! LOL! He only wants to drink from his sister's big girl cup. But we need to hold it for him,and he does spill quite a it. For some reason though he wants that over his sippy cup?!

At nursery though he has been drinking all his milk from a sippy cup (they like to get rid of bottles as fast as they can...), and apparently he can drink 4 oz in one go.... Not sure how much waste. Hopefully none since it is EBM!!!

tea- Not to worry, I'll make sure DS know only how to say

  • Whatever you want dear!
teabelly · 05/04/2006 22:16

LOL Lua! Grin

Spoke too soon on the no more teeth I think - bright red cheeks, hot as you like all day today according to mil, and knawing on everything (thank god I'm not breastfeeding! Wink) and dribbling copiously over everything and everyone within a 2 foot radius - seems to be more on their way then GrinGrinGrin

Lummox, dd only has about 4/5oz from her cup and no where near as quickly as she can down a bottle Wink

eastyorksmum · 06/04/2006 11:36

lummox · 07/04/2006 12:41

lol Lua. think i must have first-time-mum-itis Blush. thanks for all the cup/bottle info.

hello to EYM, glad you feeling better.

all is good here. ds very talkative at the mo (not words I hasten to add, just noises). are there any Junies bringing up their babies bilingual, btw? sfxmum?

sfxmum · 07/04/2006 22:19

hello allSmile hope you are having a good start to the weekend

hi eym nice to see you

lummonx- bi-lingual yes thats the idea if only i were not so lazy! apparently i am supposed to only speak to her in my languange, but i seldom do, dh is british and i can go for weeks without uttering a word of the native lingo. but i try, usually i play some music and read to her as well as sing a couple of lullabies.
sometimes i say both words for something like mouth/boca. i encourage my aunt to speak to her but with my sisters its sometimes hopeless not even among ourselves do we go for a full conversation in only portuguese its usually an odd mixture.(we have all lived here for over 10yrs)

then again i grew up learning a couple of languanges not native to my parents and i did just fine.
about the other subject i have been sort of following it but my lawyers have instructed me not to say a word about HER CONTENTDNESS ever ever

have anice weekend ladiesGrin

2Happy · 08/04/2006 20:16

Evening all. Not posted for a bit, the day after dh's grampa died my grandma was admitted to cornoary care, so it's been a little fraught here Sad But the funeral for dh's grampa was today, and it was a really lovely service. We decided in the end to take ds and he behaved just beautifully, just the occasional chickle at inappropriate moments Blush And he was great at the wake (a proper Glaswegian wake with whiskey at the door Wink) and really lifted people's moods. I got a little tired of the endless relatives telling me how big he is (well dh is built like a rugby player, so it's really hardly surprising!) and how he looks nothing like me (well I think he has my eyes so [raspberry emoticon]!).
I hope everyone is having a good weekend. EYM - great to "see" you feeling better, I hope you get some more sleep soon.
Shock all these walkers! ds managed to climb some stairs yesterday, it's so scary how mobile they're getting!
Well I'm pretty knackered after today, so not a proper catch up. dh and I are already part way down a bottle of red Grin

katzg · 10/04/2006 08:40

hello - finally got DD2 some shoes her little feet have grown at last and are a size 3 which is the smallest proper sized shoes you can get, the rest were just crawlers or cruiser which don't have a proper sole on them - so not really suitable for our backgarden! She is soooo pleased with them though - \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?rn=90726&topicid=1700&threadid=163067&redir=90726\picture here}
