New thread time!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

We have always sat down for family meals. ATM it is at 6.30 as the boys are older but once weaning starts I will shift it slightly. When the boys were little they had a snack when we got back from the school run, toast, fruit, rice cakes etc which saw them through til tea. I never went down the road of cooking separate meals (lazy emoticon)
We tried out a singing with signs group today, D loved it! Even though he is a bit young for the signs he enjoyed the singing and the movement.

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 12:11

At the moment DH and I still eat after the boys are in bed because DH doesn't get in from work until 7pm at the absolute earliest so too late to have a family dinner obvs. I know I could eat with DS but it's too early for me. I do eat with him if dh is out for dinner or away. But often ds will have what we had the day before so I don't cook until he goes to bed then we cook and have our tea and he has that the next day.

When we were weaning ds1 I definitely didn't eat with him as it was a pretty full on job feeding him and when he was weaning on the early stuff he wasn't eating what we were particularly as I would batch cook the purées or whatever.

We do however often try to eat together in the evenings at weekends. And I always have breakfast and lunch with DS. And I always sit with him while he eats and often just have a cup of tea or something.

I know we should eat together but it's just an extra job that seems to slip away to have dinner ready for all of us at ds's tea time. And DH would never be there in the week so it is nice for me and him to have that time over dinner to chat since i see so little of him.

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 12:12

Oh and hopefully once ds2 starts weaning I can tie in his meals to DS1's so we'll
all be at the table and I'll be helping ds1 while DS2 eats his

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 12:19

Also I'm very proud of ds1 today - he let me put his very favourite toy (imaginatively named 'Monkey') in the washing machine. I had everything crossed that he'd survive it and had promised ds1 a new one if anything had gone wrong so I was pleased that he let me do it knowing it might go pear shaped! So far so good though, he seems to have come out unscathed.....

NinjaChipmunk · 23/08/2012 17:49

we've never had vitamins mentioned either regarding ds, dd or myself! maybe different pct's have different ways of doing things?
we've pretty much always had ds eating with us except in the very early days and i intend doing the same with dd as i can't be arsed cooking lots of different meals.
can't remember what else i was going to say! better skidaddle as the boys will be home soon.

Wants3 · 23/08/2012 18:37

Everything sorted with the roof and no builders in until tuesday:)
Just had sad news, ds1 and GF of 3 years have split up:( it sounded very amicable and they will remain friends but still sad.

hawthers · 23/08/2012 18:41

Ahhhh the mess the mess with this blw shite. Not sure I can cope with everything being flung around and chucked on the floor

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 18:45

Oh Wants Sad for your ds1 Sad.

Hawthers is any of it going in? Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 18:46

I also love the phrase 'this BLW shite' Grin. I'm surprised that doesn't come up in more of the books and leaflets Grin

pommedechocolat · 23/08/2012 18:54

Hope he's ok wants. I managed to get to The White Company today - did you? It was heaving, apparently all the free gifts went in ten mins!!

I also love 'this blw shite'. I wish I could have some more of it. DD2 being a bit crap with chunks of banana and biscotti so far. dd1 was good from the start and it's awesome for pushchair contentedness.

scream - I too have been waiting for front to back roll from 12 weeks and she finally did it today at 25.5 weeks :)
How are things going at your mum's? if you're there yet?

hawthers · 23/08/2012 20:01

I fucking hate bastard weaning and shitting potty training can duck right off as well. I've had a bloody awful day spent clearing up, food all over the table, thrown on the floor, thrown up on me, thrown up on the floor, spilled on the floor (ds1), mashed under foot, wee on the ottoman and pens all over the floor.

DS2 has not eaten much today, not finished any of his bottles and is totally not interested in bf (unless its between the hours of 1 and 5 am). So I'll be up all night.

I totally lost it this evening after the wee incident.

I'm shit at this mothering thing, just bollocks.

Sorry again for all the sweariness - off for a medicinal glass of wine.

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 20:24

Oh Hawthers I hate days like that. I tell you what, weaning and potty training at the same time is like some kind of torture. Not even Jack Bauer could stand such a torture technique and he actually died in some episodes of 24 and was revived for more torturing Hmm. Weaning AND potty training and he'd have been a quivering wreck in the corner.

You're doing brilliantly Hawthers. Put your feet up now and enjoy your Wine. And I lost it plenty of a few times with ds1 and his potty training and I wasn't weaning a baby and up at night feeding!

I think this might be a good time to trot out that old adage: This too shall pass. Honestly it will.

Tomorrow is a new day.

Oh, I was thinking about the spoon / weaning thing from your other thread. Does ds2 like yogurts? Would he take something like that from a spoon? It might get him used to the spoon again AND it counts as a dairy / calcium bit if he's not going mad for milk at the mo? I'm sure you've thought of this already though.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/08/2012 20:47

Grin at Biscuits and Jack Bauer cowering in the corner.

I read somewhere that the best BLW accessory is a dog to eat all the spilled food. Can you borrow one? Although my dog is currently in the bad books after peeing on the rug last night - I can't get the stain out and think I might have to hire a bloody carpet cleaner. Angry

You are not shit at mothering, Hawthers, you are an excellent mother! Your very worry proves that.

Wants3 · 23/08/2012 20:48

Ds1has organised a boys get together tomorrow for a bit of a distraction I think!
pomme I didn't get into town today, sounded busy! Did you make use of your 15%? how did your hairdressers visit go?
hawthers don't be hard on yourself- if everyone gets to the end of the day in one piece then you have done a good job! Maybe don't be so 'hardcore' with the BLW to reduce the mess a little bit for a while.:)

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 21:15

Too for me with ds1 I think it was just worry that made it hard. I can't really remember tbh exactly what it was that made it hard HmmConfused. The mess didn't bother me so much (although cleaning up is dull!) as we used to eat in the kitchen in our old house so just had to sweep / mop the floor. It was more the worry about how much he was eating, how much he should be eating, whether he was having too much / not enough milk..... The list goes on. Like oh so many baby things, for me, it was the lack of a 'right' answer to all the questions. You know, there is no 'right' way to do it but then I just worry that I'm doing it all wrong.

hawthers · 23/08/2012 21:29

biscuits has it. Am worried he's not getting enough food/milk esp with our weight issues. The answer is I should just chill out and have confidence in him and it should all pan out easier said than done

Thanks all - tomorrow is another day. Will respond properly on the night shift as am supposed to be watching the sopranos with DH and keep asking questions!

DreamingOfPeace · 23/08/2012 21:37

hawthers, I stomp along the landing many times a night occasionally swearing at DT1. I hear you on the weaning. I fucking hate fucking weaning too. I hate the stained clothes and viva (but also can't be bothered to do the strip-to-nappy for all food people recommend, my boys hate dressing) I can't stand all the batch cooking, taking a cool bag with some tub of super messy stuff when out and wiping the floor a gazillion times a day. I'm delaying potty training as though DD is quite reliable at telling me she's done a poo, and occasionally a wee, she has never got anything in the potty (sits on it every night after the bath). The only reason I got a potty is her ongoing refusal to lie down for her nappy... At least your child goes to sleep again in the night without being pushed 3 miles for an hour at 2am? . And, how shit am I- I still don't ever have my three by myself for more than 2-3 hours at a time. My poor mum or dad do long days up helping me, followed by their 50+ mile drive home, and both have confessed they find it just exhausting. I feel pretty guilty about that, and that I still am not confident managing my three solo.

Oh, and also, on the quantities, my paediatrician friend says it takes 6 weeks to starve to death. Wierdly that always cheers me up if we have a bad eating week here Hmm plus apparently the amount etc eaten over a week(or is it a fortnight?) is far more important than at each meal/day, so I'd try not to worry at all unless its weeks of it. Sore teeth days often lessen intake too. My DD pretty much self weaned in the day from 8.5 months, and hasn't drunk any milk since (bar bf morning and night til nearly 15 months). She had some really bad eating days but is still fine weight wise, hasn't affected her.

biscuits, I got the multivit, Dh never asks about that, never reminded me about pregnancy vitamins or anything but he and my dad ( retired doctor) ask daily if I've taken my vit D- therefore I assume its needed! Hv hadn't mentioned it. I just had my weaning visit from a student hv and she told me to get DD a multi vitamin with vit D in, and said for the babies from 6 months.

pomme, S is as cheery as you like if held and played with/sung to/talked to. He will grin, and coo and babble. He loves attention and was delighted to be passed round 67,4789 guests at said disasterous wedding. Put him down though, day or night and the menace howls. He won't sit in the pushchair hardly at all either. The only thing he likes is being naked, doing his baby lap dancing wriggles and scooting round the bathroom floor on his back... So he's not miserable every single time he's flat on his back either. Honestly, poor B gets such a bum deal because he demands the vast majority of the attention. My dad refers to S as Luigi, as he says he's a man of the night who's got an eye for the ladies and he's got the moves... It's B who seems ?? more unsettled after feeds/ generally if I up my dairy I think, but I'm really not sure. It's B not S who is more refluxy. Or was, recently S has been chucking up everywhere and had some baby squits, so who knows?? I'm stumped. Is have to travel a fair way for baby osteopathy, (well, 4 motorway junctions and they do seem to like crashing on the m6 near me ). Googled it... I'm not sure- is it a one off or a series of visits?? I'd have to get DD babysat and take both boys, which so far does not make for stress free travelling. But if it worked... totally would be worth it!

DreamingOfPeace · 23/08/2012 21:48

X posts...

hawthers chilling out is far easier said than done. My dad always tells me babies and children just know if you're anxious/ tense/ worried and pick up on it and so play up with whatever it is (like meals) . I have given myself a holiday from worrying about DDs food. I feed her fishfingers and waffles, cheese omlette, tuna sandwiches or Philadelphia sandwiches every day. An exciting recent development is she once ate a portion of cottage pie. She won't eat pasta, or meat that's not sausage, and even that's only about one mouthful. She won't eat fish that's not tuna mayo sandwich or fishfinger. If i offer something different- tried pasta sauce and sausage again tonight (refused) I give bread and butter or Philadelphia on crackers instead. Or a banana. I always offer yoghurt, rice pudding or ice cream afterwards no matter what she did or didnt eat as she drinks no milk whatsoever. Luckily she eats lots of fruit. And I am officially not worrying much about that super limited diet . Not thinking of ways to tempt her or making different meals or stressing much is actually lovely! I do offer her other things from my plate etc, so she can decide if she wants to widen her horizons, but so far not. :)

Biscuitsandtea · 23/08/2012 22:01

I am still in awe of what you achieve every single day lady! You're amazing! That you can manage all three at once ever impresses me. I'm sure I couldn't. I frequently struggle with my two and ds2 gets a bum deal and he only has to compete with already-potty-trained-and-is-able-to-dress-and-feed-himself DS1 Confused.

I don't know a great deal about the CO thing but I think often it's a course of treatment? . Could your parents help out with looking after dd if you went? Is it the 'right' way down the M6 that it would be towards them iyswim? Or could you go on one of the days you have your help lady?

Oh, and if anyone would like to laugh at me, I have to confess that I am currently watching the Glee concert movie. I'm such a loser! Blush

hawthers · 24/08/2012 06:13

Thanks all for your support. Stupid phone wouldn't connect so on my two get ups before now I couldn't respond and now I'm too tired.

dream you are def not.rubbish about having all three.on your own. You only have one pair of.hands fgs so there is only so much you can do. Just changing all of their nappies in turn must take a good while out.ofthe.day.

Sorry can't respond properly, on phone will try on the laptop later.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 24/08/2012 08:10

Gah. M up every 1.5 hours all night. Whyyyyyyy? She slept really well Sun/Mon/Tues nights. They were all busy days after a busy weekend - maybe I have to organise a big party and then wheel lots of relatives through to play with her every day to make her sleep. Confused Or go swimming daily (don't have the car, so can't).

Dream, one baby and no toddler exhausts me. Do you ever get a lie-in? Have just negotiated a Sunday lie-in with DH - I have to get up to feed M, but after that he'll take her until 10 (so long as I let him sleep until 10 on Saturday). Would it be possible for you and DH to do something like that, or do you need both hands on deck at all times? It would give you something to look forward to.

I love Glee, Biscuits! I'm sad that its been replaced by Ugly Betty on a weekday afternoon on E4.

Biscuitsandtea · 24/08/2012 08:19

Oh Too your lie in sounds lovely Smile.

I am a recent convert to Glee - I stumbled across episode 1 of season 1 while ironing one day and thought 'ooh I can watch this while DH is at work' but then I was watching it one evening when DH got home and he LOVED it! Grin Totally converted and I now have to watch it with him! Grin We're currently approaching the end of season 2 but have season 3 ready to go on Sky plus.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 24/08/2012 08:23

Dream, does S like any sort of bouncer/walker - anything that holds him upright and preferably has flashing lights/sings? M is now liking her Jumperoo here because she can see what I'm doing from it while watching the lights flash and listening to the music. If you had something to put him in where he'd be happy for half an hour or so 3 or 4 times a day would it make your life easier? I know it's expensive - ours was a gift and I wouldn't have bought it myself, but maybe a door bouncer here would work just as well if you found something that lit up and put it next to him. With twins I would be tempted to find 2 doorways and hang them facing each other!

pommedechocolat · 24/08/2012 08:39

A likes her jumperoo too too - we have a mamas and papas one that we had for dd1 too. We also had a really, really bad night. I thought we were getting somewhere but last night was every hour pretty much.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind weaning? I have had such a bad time with the milk only bit with both mine that weaning has come as a relief. Im also pretty chilled out about mess (it is very, very messy - my top tip - save old stained/too small clothes for mealtimes for the first month or so then you can just chuck them :) ).

Working out what they like is kind of fun I think. The complicated bit is how the milk feeds fit around the meals and which feeds they're going to drop (how about a night feed Abbie???!) etc.

Argh dream I thought S was the refluxy one.. Teething maybe?? That's my catch all response from 4 months on!

scarletfingernail · 24/08/2012 09:12

Coming up to the end of DH's 2 weeks off work, we've had loads of days out so we've decided we'll spend the next 4 days getting stuff done at home that needs doing. We both have lots of stuff to do that means the other one needs to be with the kids but apparently DH's stuff is way more important than mine so he's already onto making his "important phone calls" and I'm already left wiping bums, making breakfast etc just like any other day. No doubt I won't get to tick a single thing off my list.

Sorry Dream things are still so tough Sad

I hope today is a better day for you today Hawthers
