Each Peach Pear Plum. That's a classic!! And the Alfie books by Shirley Hughes, gorgeous illustrations and lovely stories.

I love reading to DD!

Still struggling with DT1 And The Infinitely Lasting Chesty Cough. Still up hourly, if not more, or will sleep held in your arms, put him down and he wakes, pick Jim up, jig him back to sleep...and repeat. Still rattling, god knows how many weeks on. Exhausted... Had a horrible, horrible moment the other night which I'm still tearful thinking about when I woke up, sure there wasn't a baby in bed with me and there bloody was, S, under the duvet to his chin, I'd rolled away from him onto my back... Shameful. But i am so tired, I really am.

Biscuitsandtea · 04/08/2012 19:17

Oooooh oooooh oooooh

Just doing a routine sweep Hmm for teeth of ds2 (as he was trying to chew my fingers) and he's got TWO coming through at the bottom!! Shock

Wowsers!

Now this is fine as long as it doesn't hurt - I know it shouldn't as the tongue covers the teeth, but if it does hurt..... Well...... Helllloooooo aptamil Grin

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/08/2012 19:38

Didn't Shirley Hughes write My Naughty Little Sister as well? I used to love those.

Teeth, Biscuits? Wow! I tried to look in M's mouth earlier but she wouldn't cooperate. Anyway, I didn't get teeth until I was nearly 1, and nor did DH, so am not going to worry if she doesn't get any for a while. Honest Did E behave differently in any way? Grizzlier or anything?

Dream, you poor, poor bunny. I hate those moments when you wake up wondering what you've done with the baby - even worse to discover the baby still there! Is there anything the doctor could do for S's cough? It seems a long time for a baby to still be suffering. What does your DH think?

Was thinking of you all as I brushed my hair and shedloads came out. Hmm When does it stop?

Biscuitsandtea · 04/08/2012 19:45

He was grizzlier on Wed and v unsettled, and a bit so on Thu. And has been chewing things etc. I wasn't expecting them this soon - ds1 was 8mths I believe for his first and 9 for his second.

I only felt them by running my finger along his gums and then when I'd felt them had a good old look (which was hard because every time I put my hands near his mouth he tried to chew them!)

Dream I missed your post. You poor thing - you do have my hugest sympathies Sad. Good point from Too about what the docs think about the cough? What does DH say? I wish I could give you some respite somehow so you could sleep xx

DreamingOfPeace · 04/08/2012 20:22

Dh is hopeless, just says 'upper airways, viral' with a shrug. I can't see what could be done, he's not ill ill, he's just coughing and he's not running a temperature. Would seem odd to have a rip roaring chest infection with no temperature. He's not seen a doctor about it though after the last disaster getting all 3 there in hand foot and mouth times for 9:30 only to discover the calpol had kicked in and S blumming coo at the GP

I was wondering if B has teeth coming. He keeps having asymmetrical bright red cheeks and being niggly but DD was 9 months 3 weeks before her first came so who knows. Good boy E, getting teeth without too much fuss :)

DreamingOfPeace · 04/08/2012 20:25

Dh tries to take S for a bit but he really is hard work, you walk and jig etc or just feed if you're me and no matter how careful the transfer, on a warm towel/ muslin, with shush patting and white noise cd he just bloody wakes up instantly. And then will not be soothed back to sleep in the cot, and howls. No effort to self settle, still. Gah.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 04/08/2012 20:39

M will probably save up her teething for when I go back to work and then keep me up all night.

Poor little S. It does seem that if he had a chest infection he'd have a temperature. Could it be an allergy to something that's making him cough? Or asthma?

DreamingOfPeace · 04/08/2012 21:45

Asthma isn't usually diagnosed til 3. In children coughing at night can be the primary symptom. DD is like S. Coughs for months at a time til we really wonder about asthma then suddenly it clears for a bit. It seems both she and S will be coughers though, but she was definitely older when it started so could move herself round more maybe?? Anyway, I boobed S, put him down, Dh took him when he woke and he's stayed asleep put on his tummy!! So fingers crossed and I'm going to bed this instant. On my tally, S woke 7 times last night. At 17 and a bit weeks. Ridiculous... And that was sleeping with me....(with my knowledge and cleared space preparations this time)

too DD has never kept me up all night teething - occasionally had top ups of calpol
kept me up all night with various other illnesses though

Biscuitsandtea · 04/08/2012 21:49

Totally off topic but WOOO HOOO - THREE golds on the track tonight!! GrinGrin

How do I do one of those Olympic torch emoticons? Torch[olympic]? Something like that?

This will have to do Thanks

Biscuitsandtea · 04/08/2012 21:50

Ah [ torch ]

TorchTorchTorchTorch

PetWoman · 05/08/2012 11:07

Yay for GB golds! Torch

Actually thought that was an ice cream emoticon when I first saw it. Blush

Happy belated birthday, Ninja ! hope the evil mastitis has gone and you enjoyed your outing.

We've started giving DS a bottle of formula last thing before bed and he's been taking 8oz! I guess he must be hungry, poor little chap. My mum threw me by reiterating all the arguments for ebfing just after I'd reconciled myself to the formula idea (risk of allergies; doesn't need 'foreign substances'; DS seems perfectly healthy - though small - etc etc) but I stuck to my guns. AND I managed to express 4oz this morning! :) so I'm feeling happier all round. And DS is sometimes sleeping till 7am with the formula so all good. Grin

Biscuits that's exciting about the teeth! I felt DS's gums just out of curiosity but there was nothing there - phew!

Dream no brooking that S's cough will improve and that's all it will take to get him sleeping through!

I love Each Peach Pear Plum and My Naughty Little Sister! I was a big fan of Topsy and Tim as well. And Meg and Mog. Happy times ahead...

NinjaChipmunk · 05/08/2012 11:33

Pet I thought it was an ice cream too! Well done on the expressing and great to hear your ds is sleeping well. I'm all for ebf where possible but sometimes you do need to look at the bigger picture, a bottle of formula does not have to spell the end of ebf.
Wow for teeth already biscuits! How old is e now?
Lazy morning here. Watching wall-e with the sproglets. Must do online shop and finish mortgage forms at some point.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 05/08/2012 11:45

I felt M's gums too this morning but nothing. She's taken to leaning back with curiosity and biting on the end of my nipple (ouch!) by mistake, so it's just as well there are no teeth involved!

Hope S stayed asleep for a good long stretch last night, Dream! 7 awakenings is torture. I didn't know that asthma couldn't be diagnosed until 3. It's interesting that DD coughs too. Is it a dry/tickly cough? Just a thought based on Jilly Cooper's Riders Blush but what about trying a humidifier in the room so the air is less dry? Does DD cough more in the winter when the central heating is on?

Pet, sounds like DS got some good grub, so it's all good! Plus that's some impressive expressing.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/08/2012 12:44

E is 5 mths on Wed Ninja Shock

pommedechocolat · 05/08/2012 14:52

Wow on the teeth biscuits!

dream - A is so bad still. I have officially reached the end of my tether. Feeding all night is damaging my family now and I have dark moments with my thoughts in the early hours now. So, we are to stop. Two feeds at night and no more till morning from tonight. Awful, awful weekend away for BILs wedding 4 hours away where she rejected the travel cot. I have had it. I feel I'm more likely to do it now when I'm so angry with her than to wait until I've had some kip.

pommedechocolat · 05/08/2012 15:00

BUT she can go longer between feeds in the day. Now refusing to feed 6 hours since her last one. She is totally reversed and only sleeping 11 hours in 24. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Wants3 · 05/08/2012 16:32

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time pomme
I had a PTB moment last night :( I was sobbing to DH that I didn't want to leave D with the Pil on weds for the funeral service because he was too little! (pathetic emoticon).DH said he would phone Pil with an excuse and he would look after D outside the church while I went to the service.

D is really refluxy this afternoon but just wants to keep feeding, argh!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 05/08/2012 16:53

Good luck tonight. What will you do when A cries? Get DH on the job?

Wants, you might just get away with D in the funeral, if one of you is prepared to take him out if need be. M was v good at both crem and church at the funeral we went to recently. DH was poised to rush her out but it didn't happen.

pommedechocolat · 05/08/2012 18:20

Thanks all, I've calmed down slightly. Terrible 6 hour journey, followed by two nights of no sleep followed by another 6 hour journey left me a bit cranky :)

She also ate masses of sweet potato whilst laughing at the taste of it which was very cute :)

Not sure what I'll do. I reckon she'll wake to feed at 10 ish then 1 ish then 4 ish. So basically I want her to go without a feed from 1 until 6am... Dh will be downstairs tonight as he did all the driving (although he did go and sleep in dd1's twin bed room last night at 1am).

Wants3 · 05/08/2012 18:28

I can't really take him in as all the cousins have been asked not to bring under 5s to the church.I don't want to upset/annoy anyone who has had to arrange childcare !
DH will walk around the town,D will hopefully sleep and I can feed him straight after if need be rather than having to drive 1/2 hour to get him! I think DH will suggest to Pil that we pop in for a drink on our way home so they don't miss out on seeing D.

pommedechocolat · 05/08/2012 18:57

Sometimes by no children people don't mean little newborns wants - might be worth checking?

DreamingOfPeace · 05/08/2012 21:40

Yay, I had 5 hours sleep llast night!!! First time I've had more than 3 hours in the last 4 months. Prolonged feed/ settle attempts for DT1, Dh got him asleep tiger in the tree style, down onto his tummy and ta da! He hated waking up on his tummy though... We braved a farm park place yesterday and country walk and pub lunch with friends today. great as the eldest child, who was 3, walked so her daddy carried our DD saving one of us from a toddler on the back, baby on the front scenario today. It was raining though, we had an explosion in the car so were down to one spare set of baby clothes anyway and I did have a minor flap about that Blush lunch was yummy though, and went better than expected- I asked for a table for 6 adults and 7 children under 3 (tiny country pub) and the lady looked frankly horrified, was blustering about only 2 highchairs and one in use... We went outside :)

Ah, pomme, I'm frequently furious with S in the night, I so get you. why won't they sleep?! You could try the 'break the habit' way of half waking them, or waking them (can't remember which it was-helpful) just before you expect them to wake? I've never dared try it but think its the No Cry Sleep Solution book that recommends that?? Or, and I'm so not a co-sleeping fan, bring her in with you, let her suck your thumb or knuckle or something if she wants to and see if she'll go back to sleep and you can delay her feed that way??

Agree wants sometimes it doesn't apply to newborn bf babies.

Not thought about a humidifier too, its a loud, almost barking kind of cough. A hv more recently and GP at his 6 week check thought he sounded like he had croup. He doesn't of course, but it is a bad cough. One for the list.

News of the night though is I got DT1 to sleep using a dummy which I found on their messy chest of drawers from way back when in the first few weeks and sucked it myself in case it was dusty . I had to hold it in his mouth, then removed it once he was asleep, but huge step forward (or backwards, depends how you look at it!) Even if i have to stay with him each night to hold it in til he's asleep, at least he's asleep! And on his back :) . We'll see how long for, and if it ever works again. I best get to bed.

PetWoman · 06/08/2012 08:08

Pomme glad you're sounding more positive. How did last night go?

Dream that sounds like a great weekend and some possible sleep break-throughs! Well done.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/08/2012 08:21

Dream yay for 5 hours sleep! And the dummy sounds like progress - hope last night was good too. Sucking it is my only method of dummy sterilisation. Your day out sounds good too.

Pomme, how did it go?

Last night M decided it would be great to wake up every couple of hours. Hmm I put her down at 7pm and she woke up at 8, 10, 12.30, 2.50, 5 and 7. She so nearly went back down at 7, but DH had to get up for work and even though he tried his hardest to be quiet she woke up. Then she was sick lying on the bed tilting backwards and it ran into her eye, yuck! I think she has some sort of radar that goes 'Mummy especially wants to sleep tonight because we are doing something tomorrow...'

Oh no, fck, fck, f*ck! M is supposed to have jabs today and I totally forgot and DH is off to work in the car! Bugger. I think they're at 11.40. Wonder if DH could nip out of work to take me to them? The thing I was thinking of sleep-wise was that my dad, stepmother and the kids are coming this afternoon so I'll be up late chatting.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 06/08/2012 08:28

Phew, DH thinks he can get the time off - his boss isn't due in until 9, though, so will have to wait and see.
