Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Diege · 28/03/2006 10:40

LOL LONDONER! We do seem to be synchronised don't we Smile. Diege Turner I am not! My only housework obession is my rug which covers most of the lounge carpet and gets covered in all sorts (mostly my hair actually!)Grin

babyonboard · 28/03/2006 11:08

glad the jabs went well diege..just trying to force myself our for our appointment..but i hate it!

no doubt the h.v will tell me he's gaining too much weight again

do any of you have tattoos b.t.w ..or would you? and if you do how do you feel about it now?

Londoner · 28/03/2006 11:11

Oh Diege, am with you on the hair front.... same here, mine gets everywhere esp with this puerperal moult... thankfully it seems to be settling down at last, how about you?
Hope that last post didn't sound rude btw, was well meant as impressed that you could manage to hoover daily with babe and 2 other young-uns, I only seem to manage once a week apart from kitchen which gets swept as needed.
LOL at peoples' animal biscuit stories...do you all still have a bit of a nostalgic 'urge to snack' when feeding your pets.........lol...

Londoner · 28/03/2006 11:18

Hi BoB, good luck with hv and jabs. Would not want a tattoo myself as I change my mind about what I like and don't like as regards design.... tattoo would make me feel claustrophobic if I couldn't escape from it, I know I'd get bored of it... are you considering having one? Or is dp? ... Or are you planning to tattoo 'idiot' (or some such) on landlord's forehead as he slumbersGrin?

novadandypowder · 28/03/2006 11:31

Tattoos - love love love mine and if it wasn't for DH putting the kybosh on it I would have the one on my back made even bigger. I wanted one to celebrate Natalie, and I still might be able to work on that one. Have also had one removed though and it was v. v. painful and expensive.

Yummy mummy woman was rubbish - and even said you could put baby to sleep whichever way round you wanted!!!!!

Diege · 28/03/2006 11:45

LONDONER, didn't see post as rude in the slighest Smile, just funny in light of what a slob I am Grin!!! Have noticed hair loss around sides of temples, which happened last time and is more noticable when tied back. Having my extensions put back in next week, but they can be a bit funny about it if your hair's coming out (the bonds pull on the roots) - I'll have nothing left come the meet!
I have tatoo that I'm pretty indifferent about now. It's on my hip, just above knicker line, and because it's not 'exposed' forget about it. Having said that, it has increased in size with overhang growth Shock Blush.
Libby is suffereing pretty badly now with jab effects, like last time. Have given calpol (more on chin than down mouth, and that's with syringe), so she's in bed and seems to have settled down now Smile.
Agree NOVA, yummy mummy woman was rubbish, some advice well dodgy (hmm, esp, like you say, stuff about sleeping and baby being too young for any sort of routine/structure until 6 months or so, though you all know what I'm like by now Grin. She seemed to be making it up as she went along IMO !
Right, tuna and pasta for lunch!
Diege Smile

tessasmum · 28/03/2006 11:58

Mmmm, yes, hair loss - its falling out in handfulls at ATM. Had an interesting discussion about wigs with Tessa as DH said there seemed to be one in the toilet Grin

tessasmum · 28/03/2006 12:17

Londoner - my birth story is \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2290&threadid=119096&stamp=051126034753\here November 9th}
First time I've done a link and I think it worked Smile

Lovely reading it again, brings back LOTS of good feelings.

Londoner · 28/03/2006 12:29

Wow, Tessa, that's lovely, v.exciting experience and so lovely that Tessa could be there and hear his first squawlSmile. You'd do it all again eh?Wink.....
Diege, came across your birth story while looking and really enjoyed that too, your husband could write for a living, he's hilarious..... Shock did he really hog the gas and air, lol!?

tessasmum · 28/03/2006 12:32

Londoner - loved the experience but we have no plans to do it again. Reckon I'd go straight from bf to menopause if we did ShockShock

tessasmum · 28/03/2006 12:36

What I didn't put in the original post was that the next morning, after a full night's sleep, Tessa came into our room as normal and the first thing she said was "Where is our baby?" Had a good look at him in the Moses basket and then got into bed with us as though nothing had changed Smile

babyonboard · 28/03/2006 12:53

hi all...jabs were just fine...he cried a little and then sulked at me all the way through sainsburys afterwards
h now weighs 17lb 10 oz...argh!

nova - thats just what i want..one to celebrate O
I flirted with the idea last year as we lived with an amazing tattoo artist..i'm considering it strongly now, and know he would come over here to do it for me aswell, which is great as i would feel very rlaxed and confident with him doing it.

hmm...don't know...

I'm loving rading your birth stories..feling quite sorry i missed out on them at the tim s i wasn't on mumsnet..
also wish i'd posted mine so i could look back at it..
ho hum

babyonboard · 28/03/2006 12:56

aaw tessasmum..thats too sweet! Smile

Londoner · 28/03/2006 12:59

Ah Tessa, so sweeeeetSmile!
BoB, you could write your birth story now, it's not too late.... would love to hear itSmile. Glad jabs went well.
Diege, meant to say well done on the jabs too, must be great to know you've go those out the way now.

babyonboard · 28/03/2006 13:01

londoner..lol was hoping somone would say it's okay as i'd fel silly just randomly posting it here
i think it's important to sum it all up in words..i remember calling my mum and best frinds and reliving the whole thing over and over just because it was so amazing..lol

i'll gather my thoughts and write it out...

Diege · 28/03/2006 13:17

Ahh, what a cutie tessa is Smile! LONDONER: My DH will be pleased Smile; yes he did hog it, though I can't complain as he brought me contaband snacks secreted in my bag (no food in labour at our hossie Shockwhen mws were out the room!
Libs is screaming and has temperature, despite calpol Sad. Have to wait a few hours before next dose, so hopefully will work. Just glad it wasn't a late afternoon appointment; I can cope with daytime side effects - not so good at nighttime screaming!

babyonboard · 28/03/2006 14:05

We woke up on sunday 27th and i had a massive urge for roast chicken, cashew nuts and emmental cheese. Dp went to the supermarket whilst i lay in bed watching 'T4' and massaging my very swolln legs.
At this time I was having mild cramps, but we had had many false alarms and none starts so I kept quiet and waited to see how things progressed
We then pulled out the futon in the living room as i was geting backpain and I said 'this is it'.
We put on a dvd and DP got very excited, and strted timing my pains on post-its.
We had a massive lunch and then kept watching movies..with the blinds down and candles lit..the contractions were very mild so I wasn't panicked, and also didn't want to 'call in the troops' as I was still a little unsure that it was actually happening.
By 6pm I got a massive primal feeling that this is certainly it and an urge to improve the envionment we were in so Dp went around bringing in cushions, quilts and more candles and hassled me to call my mum. ( i think by now he was terrified and wanted to share the responsibility)

At 7pm I called my mum and said we needed her , it's a 4 hour drive for them and they had always planned to be around for the birth , but she was cross that we had chatted that afternoon and I hadn't mentioned anything..lol ( i didn't want her to waste days off from work if it was false alarm)

we carried on watching films..i remember 'moulin rouge' especially as i adore that film ...it was a great distraction...and i demded that dp order pizza.

my parents and little sister arrived at 11.30pm and I retreated to the bedroom as the sound of people talking made me yell at them during the contractions.
My midwife suggested taking a bath, and going to the hospital only when I felt I really needed to.
I wanted to spend as much of the labour as possible at home and so didn't go there until 2am when it got too much to bear.
My dad drove us to the hospital, after lots of kisses and tears from my mum, then halfway down the road I made him pull over as I had such a bad contraction and the motion of driving really irritated me

having been wheeled up to the delivery suite..and feeling very self important (look out everyone..woman in labour coming through!lol)I was strapped onto monitors..despite my protests and we waited for two hours or so.
The midwife ( not mine sadly) then came in and dclared i wasn't in labour..
sh told D.P it hpns often and we may be sent home and culd b up to 4/5 days
I got very cross then (if this isn't labour then what the hel will labour feel like!?) and asked for them to do an internal exam

The midwife was swittching shifts and said the next would do one, but it was doubtful I was actually in labour as the monitors were only registering mild contractions

D.P went off to call my parents and tell them it probably wsn't going to hppn.

I meanwhile was incredulous..i knew this was it...

While he was gone I took off the monitors as i badly needed the loo and there had a huge show..came back to the bed dripping blood and suddenly got a huge urge to push..I yelled for the midwife but noone came..
that was a very terrifying few minutes..it literally felt like the baby was about to come out..and i was so scared that noone would be there in time..

d.p came in saying 'oh i spoke to your mum and...' but was cut short by me yelling 'get the nurse ..get the nurse'

she dashed in and found i was 9cm dilated..started setting up the table and declared that the baby would be here within an hour

I then got gas and air..and asked for harder pain relief as it was too much and i was scared, but she said i was coping fine, which for some reason was very reassuring. ( it was also way too late for that!)

the urge then got so strong and i pushed and pushed..and screamed!...at one point the midwife from the room next to us came in and said she wanted to close the door as i was scaring the woman she was trying to deliver

after 20/30 minutes of pushing O slid out and i sat up and declaared 'it's over!'
then had a few minuts of oblivion staring in awe at the tiny little man i felt i knew so well already

DP ws in tears and called my mum who had fully expected me to return home with bump intact..and within 15 minutes of birth he got to meet his grandparents and 'aunt'...

the placenta didn't come naturally..and the midwife broke the cord which I think was the problem..but that doesnt detract from a frankly amazing first experince of birth

and to be honest..having a spinal block to get the placenta rmoved gave a good distraction from the soreness..and made me enjoy my first hours meeting O even more...

babyonboard · 28/03/2006 14:11

oooh..sorry..that's ever so long...

diege sorry lib is distressed..O seems fine now..is dozing away...should i give calpol as a preventative mesure? h.v said yes..but i never like giving medicine unless neccesary.

LilJ · 28/03/2006 14:19

Hi all,

Gosh I've been rather busy recently so haven't had a chance to catch up on the posts, but hope everyone is doing well!

I'm beginning to contemplate work and what I'm going to do next (now that I'm officially unemployed!). I've just applied for a new job, but I would rather not start working until the end of the summer. DH is very keen that I start to look for work, even if I don't start a job until the Autumn. I do have to say that I even though I absolutely adore spending all this time with Nate I am beginning to want to have something else to do other than have coffee and talk about poo!

Otherwise we're doing very well here, Nate is just soooo cute these days as he's started to giggle and be ticklish. Time seems to be flying by and cannot believe that he's going to be 4 months old already!

I would love to try and come to the meet up but my SIL will be over from the States so I may or may not drag her along with her 5-year old.

J xx

Londoner · 28/03/2006 14:35

BoB, that's amazing, and v. moving, how wonderfulSmile.

tessasmum · 28/03/2006 15:47

Lovely story BoB, brought tears to my eyes.

ChaCha · 28/03/2006 16:40

Lovely BoB :) Wish I'd written mine - can't remember much of those long 23 hours or the hours after his arrival :( DH fills me in and everyone else who prepares to listen.

Agree, yummy mummy not at all what I expected, oh well!

My friend is due to have her baby any day, false alarm (she tripped and fell on bump this morning) so had my LO and her 3 year old to look after. Boy was it hectic! Can't help laughing at:
'You can't have any chocolate till you finish your lunch'
'But mummy says I can'
'No she didn't, now eat your lunch'
'[sulky face] Well I'm not hungry anymore!!'
'Fine! Then I'll eat your chocolate!'
'[Lip quivers] I'm telling my mummy!'

The real test is yet to come!! [rolls eyes & sighs]

LilJ - What's wrong with drinking coffee and talking about pooh all day :o It's such fun! LOL Hope you get the job you're looking for. x

babyonboard · 28/03/2006 16:42
