hi all...

guess you're right about the weaning thread..but be prepard for a lot of questions on here from me!lol

chocolate lemon! how strange...
dp amused me no end..the cke he brought was one of those 'gu' ones..and he said,' i thought it'd be better than full fat'..he though it was 'g.i' brand cke..like the diet..lol
layers of gooey choc. and nuts are never going to be diet..men are so funny sometimes.

he called his mum too..sometimes i think she tries to concot drama out of nothing just to keep herself amused..ah well

i found this on ebay..makes me want a baby girl... \link{http://cgi.ebay.com/Boutique-VIOLETS-Viva-Frida-Custom-4pc-set-6mo-7yr_W0QQitemZ6860960646QQcategoryZ79718QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\so sweet}

nova I can sympthise with the crying baby issue..but often O will do it the other way round, scream and want attention at home, and be an angel when we are in company, so i seem like a lier when I say what a bad night we've had tc..lol
sounds like the wning is going well for you..i'd b interested in getting that book too

beartime - step away from the highchir! lol hope you make it to the london met..should be a fun day.

goldenoldie · 22/03/2006 08:41

BOB - why does MIL automatically think her son is a wife-beater because you have a black eye? Strange she did not ask for an explantion first before launching into 'is he violent'?

Nova - Shhhhhhhhhh, I've been a secret non-steriliser from birth. Twins bottles/dummies just go in dishwasher and get a rinse after (in case of dishwasher salt residue). Not had a single upset tummy to date - touch wood.

Re: crying, my DS1 was like that. Used to scream the place down at baby massage while all the other babies were gurgling quietly. The DTs are much, much easier - just the luck of the draw, and parenting always is a bit easier (I think/for me) second time around.

Beartime - state benefits are given out to provide a financial threshold for families below which no familiy is expected to go/survive on.

Most of them are means-tested (like tax credits) but there are a few that are still universal - ie. everyone gets it regardless of income (like child benefit).

Find it hard to beleive that 9 out of 10 families are entitled to tax credits. If so, it is an odd way of giving money to those who are working and most in need - why not just tax them less?

We must be the 1 in 10, I've checked, we def. are not entitled to anything!

Weaning - happy to read all about your weaning experiences. I'm putting off the evil day as long as poss!

novadandypowder · 22/03/2006 08:45

BoB - step away from ebay!!! I ended up giving away some of the cute clothes we were given for Natalie as they were either impractical or she grew out of them too quickly.

I've got \link{http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1405302844/sr=8-10/qid=1143017028/ref=pd_bbs_10/104-3736972-5254353?%5Fencoding=UTF8\this} book for weaning. Very helpful, and revised for the new 6 month weaning age.

Just looked at an email from DH, he is not a happy bunny Sad.

babyonboard · 22/03/2006 08:52

lol nova..i can't resist..
last weekend i got O some little tweed trousrs and a cord jacket from monsoon..vry impractical and overpriced, but too sweet to resist!
thnks for the link..i'll order it today

whats up with DH? is he missing you guys?

golden..she is a very paranoid and cynical ldy..thats all i can say..dp ws pretty upset but he shouldn' let her bother him really...

Diege · 22/03/2006 09:13

Morning! Smile. Hope you had a reasonable night LONDONER. We were lucky, and got a pretty uninterrupted sleep Smiledd2 seems much better today too, though it's a bit early to tell!
BOB: feel free to post as many questions on weaning as you wish; there will always be one of us who has an answer Smile. Bet O looks too cute in his little tweed outfit Smile.I love baby monsoon too, and bought matching dresses for all 3 girls for the summer Grin.
Re sterilising: in the states they just put in microwave anyway I think? (and don't sterilise). For me it's the washing/measuring/shaking side of things that I find tedious...can;t wait for cow's milk! Won;t be bothering with steriliser for London stay anyway! Remember just using dishwasher, and to my horror was going to give bottle when spotted mashed potato in teat!!Blush!!!Wash in sink now in v.hot, soapy water!
Oh come on, someone must remember the choccy lemon! It's odd, becuase I've never met ANYONE who has. I def. remember taking one to school in 1977 on last day of term before Xmas!!!!
Am going to send flex. application today, though may send a 'hello' e-mail to boss first, telling him it's on its way? Just seems a little sudden to have no correspondence for 5 months, then, hello, can I change my working work? Sure I'm being overly sensitive, as it's a legal right to request flexible working week, but still feel a bit cheeky Blush.
Right, quorn sausages for breakfast!!!
Diege Smile

Londoner · 22/03/2006 09:14

Hi,

Diege, well done with the application, now you just have to make your arm put it into the letterbox..... make those fingers open and let it go......good luckSmile.
BoB, glad you talked about MIL to dp, can't have been easy for either of you. Perhaps this is because of her own experience/expectations of a dp? Or maybe just bonkers like you sayBlush. Love image of you and O shopping together, will you post a pic of him in his new ensemble?
Beartime, no one thinks claiming (child) tax credits is scrounging, it really isn't, it's the norm for 9 out of 10.
Nova, must be hard having a mis dh miles awaySad. Maybe concentrate on telling him loads of nice stuff about you and N to combat it, that might cheer him up a bit?
Well guess what, have just received delivery from one of the parents who organised the Easter Fair last weekend..... a Green and Black's Easter Egg! I managed to get the most pegs off the washing line (18 of them) using one hand only....... oh, such hidden talents, lol. Aaaaah, that's breakfast taken care of then Wink....

Diege · 22/03/2006 09:17

Meant to say BEAR, really hope you can make it for meet-up Smile

Londoner · 22/03/2006 09:23

Diege, cross posted, hiSmile. Think it's a really good idea to email and let boss know yes, deffo. Sorry no recollection of chocolate lemon eggs....... but am heartened that you were at school somewhere around the same era as meGrin, lol.
Glad you had a good night, mine was musical beds, fever and delerium....... ".. ducks, they're too big, they're too big" etc here, but seem a lot better this morning....... 2 grinning monkeys installed on sofa watching that "When we were Kings" video about the 'rumble in the jungle' Ali/Foreman fight, great documentary.

Diege · 22/03/2006 09:48

Have sent overly-friendly e-mail to boss, all chirpy and full of exclamation marks!!!!!!Slipped in ref. to flexible application mid-way through ! Will send later today (by e-mail) to allow it to slowly sink in!
mmmm, Green and Blacks!! You can sort of justify it as it's organic! Your grinning monkeys sound cute! Bet night was fun Wink. Scarlett is demanding endless tea-towels to iron with toy iron; def. better, and quite cute too Smile.
BTW, was 7 in 1977 Smile. ooh, could eat some choccy now...send me a virtual piece of your egg please Grin!

goldenoldie · 22/03/2006 10:53

Diege - agree with the others, never heard of choc lemon. But was only made for 3 years 79 - 81 so it must have passed me by without realising. www.kraft.com.au/confectionery/index.cfm?fuseaction=TERRY.facts

Well done on getting the flex. wk application in.

Diege · 22/03/2006 11:02

wow GOLDEN, you are a font of knowledge Grin. I must have been 9, and not 7! Can see why it didn't last like the orange one - I've tasted better Grin.BTW, did you say you had to reivise your application 3 times? Should I be prepared for a battle? Sad.

Busyalexsmummy · 22/03/2006 11:40

deige-lol at the mashed potato!Grin
I dont bother sterilising at all,I sterilise when theyve got a cold/bug but other than that I only do the breastpump and thats only because its fiddly to clean and dont want germs harbouring in it
If its good enough for scbu babies, its good enough for my healthy little beansGrin

OP posts:
beartime · 22/03/2006 12:12

Golden - that makes sense abt the tax credits, tho' I agree it does seem odd.

Caleb is always great on show so no-one will believe me when I say he's not always like that Smile

Londoner - an easter egg for breakfast - oooh I'd like it but would probably feel sick afterwards!

Diege - I think that's called... manipulation...? Wink

BEKsmum · 22/03/2006 13:53

Diege well done for getting your application form done - I made my self chuckle last night as I was thinking that the thread wouldn't be the same once everyone went back to work; but then I counted how many threads we wrote while we were carrying and thought who am I trying to kid!!! Grin

I remember the chocolate lemon!!! This really made me smile as my Nan used to buy us all a Chocolate orange every christmas and the first year they brought the lemon out we got one of those too as an extra treat - not as good, not repeated. She bought me a choc orange up until I was 18 then because I was a grown up female member of the family my choc orange was replaced with tea towels - not so for my brother Envy. Thank you for evoking a very happy childhood memory.

Nova hope your dh is ok, it must be hard for you both having him away. Have you got anyone around to help you with Nat when she's being a pickle?

If it makes you feel any better you'll find that if you keep going round with the same group of babies Natalie will have you in stitches in a couple of months time when she becomes just a little more self aware; one of the other babies will kick off big style and she'll just look at you like butter wouldn't melt and an expression that says "What is that baby doing - I'd NEVER do that Mummy"

You're learning fast too that if one baby kicks off the rest will generally stay quiet, it's just like the babies know how to make each other look bad and the stressed mummy feel worse. Don't beat yourself up about it the other mums are only thinking "thank god it's not my turn at the moment"

I love Baby Gap too, especially like the hooded sweat-shirts, they just go on an on for ever - bit like me really!

Beartime - Look out for me at Bromley South, I'll be going in to town to meet Karma!!!

Glad to hear some of the poorly ones are feeling a bit better

Right best go and feed Thomas Beks

ChaCha · 22/03/2006 15:16

Hi everyone,

Took a while to catch up, hope I didn't miss anything too important.

Browniechick - will look fwd to seeing the pics :) Sounds like a wonderful day.

Londoner - You mentioned Andrea? Have you seen her programme and what do you think? Read some reviews here on MN when it was first aired, did make me laugh. Must admit, the half a lemon in the dishwasher and white vinegar around the taps were interesting tips..anyway..moving on. Blush

Will have to post again later, Z is doing my head in today. He just demands my attention 24/7.... my own fault I'm sure!

Londoner · 22/03/2006 16:03

Hi Smile,

BEKs love your chocolate orange story..., good to hear you sounding better?
Golden, well done on Tate Modern, agree it's a great baby venue too...... aaaaaah those lovely leather sofasGrin
Rodeo, oooooh just read bit about J latching on wrong..... that is agony, it's only happened to me a few times over the years but it is excruciating isn't it!
ChaCha, d'you mean AntheaWink? Well, I've only seen her programme once, at the weekend (and I had to hold my ground to see it, as it's in the Londoner's c**p tv category according to dhAngry).... and it's fascinating I think! But can she tell me how to get fingerprints off my walls? Am in danger of having my very own childrens' growth chart with thoseShocklol!

babyonboard · 22/03/2006 16:43

lol..londoner and rodeo..bet that is pinful..but reminded me of male frinds when i was small who'd use the hoover to give themselves 'lovebites' to 'look cool' oh dear...

my friends band was classed 'hottest record in the world right now' by zane lowe last night on radio 1 ..hehe..he is an ass..but great for them..so so proud of the guys

Londoner · 22/03/2006 17:04

What are they called BoB?

babyonboard · 22/03/2006 17:09

londoner - it's the futurehads
they had quite lot of success last year, then didnt touch u.k charts but were big in the u.s. and germany..
they have high hopes for the new album

The singer is bout to become O's second godfather (he's engaged to my best oldest friend)

Londoner · 22/03/2006 17:31

Wow, yeah, we know those in our house, you groovey chick you.... they covered 'Hounds of love" didn't they? Ds1 likes them....

babyonboard · 22/03/2006 18:05

lol..amazed you know them..no one in my family does. so they always give blank stares whn i mention o's 'famous' godfather..teehe

babyonboard · 22/03/2006 18:21

sorry..wasn't going to post this as i know i vent at you guys a lot, but dp is at work and my mums busy having dinner and i'm so so angry...

our neighbours knocked on the door to say they have a leak in their bathroom ( they are below us) so i said, ok, i'll call a plumber out and let you know when he'll be there..

then whilst on the phone ( and feeding O) got the fright of my life as the 'landlord' of the building came into our living room!
bearing in mind..
-we own the flat..he is just the freholder.., and ven if he was our landlord he shouldnt com in uninvited like tht

-it's a whole flight of stairs from our flats front door to our living room that he cme up

-i didn't even know he was around. let alone had invited him in
-he didn't knock or call out before

he then dashed into our bathroom and i had to angrily force him out and tell him to leave..
I would have had harsher words had i not been distracted by O crying

so so angry about this..he often acts lik he 'owns' our place as h hs the frehold, and has bought every other flat in the building nd this just shows to what extent he belivs it

i feel infringed upon..surely I could even call the police (i won't but defintily know he was way out of line)

Londoner · 22/03/2006 18:50

Shock BoB, that's really frightening, you must be going through so many different emotions, what a creep....this is intimidating behaviour, harrassment etc. What course of action d'you think you'll take?

Londoner · 22/03/2006 18:51

Can you cnange the locks? Or does he have the right to a set?

babyonboard · 22/03/2006 18:54

londoner..no idea..

it was maybe my fault as i didn't slam the door so the yal lock didnt catch..i wasnt as careful as normal as i knew i'd be going back down within minutes to let the neighbours know what the plumber said ( and we have two external doors between ours and the street so i knew it'd b safe)

he has no right of access to our flat at all..
grrr
