Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Diege · 20/03/2006 20:42

Well the sickness bug has finally arrived at the Diege household Sad, with dds 1 &2 complaining of tummy aches, and having high temps too. Not holding out too much hope for them going to school tommorrow (selfish mummy!), but please, please, no more chunky sheets!!!
Well, my chicken tikka will be arrivng any minute (must banish thought of of chunks!)
BEKS: yes,my mortgage broker was mortified at library book CCJ -had never heard anyone get one for that before Blush. The mortgage company thought it was hilarious too, and were fine about it - hardly constituted a high risk customer, but of course a CCJ is a CCJ Blush.
Diege Smile.

beartime · 20/03/2006 20:59

Diege - yeah I guess I would tell all this stuff to real friends too, but I don't really have that many that have a baby and would want to talk abt those things!! BTW Caleb sucked his hand b4 he even came out - I could feel it going bang bang bang! And he is now a thumb sucker Smile though he still likes to vary it, and seems to prefer my finger though its not like I offer it or anything!

Londoner - your first post made me laugh Smile Oh dear another one who had to give up... how long did you feed for? How do you spring clean with a baby! I can't seem to get anything done apart from when he's asleep and then I'm too worn out to do anything! I put himsomewhere and he starts grumbling after about 10 mins!

Golden - yes London = smelly, busy, grey and no grass (to speak of). Plus have bad memories of going there with my mum when I was younger and there always being a bomb scare due to the IRA Sad give me the mountains and sheep anytime Grin Have you been to San Franscisco? That and Dundee are the only cities I've ever liked cos they have a beautiful view...

Nova - phew you've backed up what I've been thinking - solids doesn't equal good sleep - yay. Sorry if that bothered you, but I want a good reason to hold out Grin Oh just read what you said about San Fransisco too Smile LA's terrible though. We were in Orange County, below LA which is OK, but I didn't like LA itself.

Beks I wouldn't have been to America if I hadn't married an American!

goldenoldie · 20/03/2006 21:07

Beartime - yes - I have been to San. Fran. Married my first husband right there in City Hall. Not been to Dundee tho. I loved Perth - is it anything like that?

Beks - I'm just lazy, thats why I like going to the US. I speak the language and love the variety of the food.

tessasmum · 20/03/2006 22:01

Evening all!

OK, I'm going to try and reply to things but may not manage it all tonight - I do try and keep up with reading all the posts but can't seem to get my act together enough to actually write anything! Supposed to be doing washing up but have laptop in kitchen again (as Ash in cot in front room - messing me about more than DH at the moment Diege so it may take more than a week to get him in with Tessa Angry) so too tempted to do MN stuff instead :)

Karma - so sorry to hear about your brother, I'm sure that hasn't help the good day/bad day ratio. The snoring problem was sorted in our house by me giving birth as it was me doing the snoring Shock, all those loose muscles etc - you weren't being thick, I was being cryptic!

Twinkle - what you are going through really puts my niggles/gripes into perspective. Take care of yourself in amongst it all and as others have said use us if you need to.

Nova - where are you getting professional pics done? I really like the Venture-type ones rather than the more formal ones and am planning to ask for a session for my birthday in the summer (which will give me time to save up the child benefit to pay for the actual pictures ShockShock) As both DH and I do quite a bit of photography we have very few pictures of all of us.

Beartime - on the ttc thing. Friend of mine conceived her 2nd whilst exclusively bf her 1st. No af, nothing, just a feeling of 'here we go again' when No1 was only 5 months old. So there is hope! Great news on your husband's health BTW. Are you SURE about 10?? My brother and SiL have 6 and it's insane Shock

Brownie - christening sounds wonderful. I'm sure having your Grandad there made it even more special. Definately want to see pictures.

I love a DO. We had our wedding last year and my sister's the year before. Both small and a bit alternative but really loved everyone getting together.

BEKS - sympathy with losing your voice. I had same thing about 3 weeks ago, Tessa kept whispering at me and Ash just laughed!
If Karma's honey, lemon and whisky doesn't work then hot port will do the trick - either cure you or make you feel SO much better that you don't care Grin

Londoner - another camper, though I should have known from the Glastonbury pics. I LOVE the cereal idea and know Tessa will too, I'll save it for our first tent outing this year!

Nova - good going on the carrot Nat! Have you worked out yet that carrot can't be removed from clothing? My advice is either to dress child in orange or feed her naked (as Tessa was weaned in the summer this was done on a few occasions and I have the photos to prove it Blush)
Also, for all you 1st time weaners out there, banana is wonderful for babies until it touches solid matter when it turns into the Devil's food unless washed out AT ONCE!! It leaves the most yucky brown stains that can NEVER be removed, EVER Shock

Favourite city must be either Amsterdam, where DH lived and worked on and off for 2 1/2 years, or Copenhagen - where else is it still the norm to leave babies in buggies outside shops whilst you go inside? And the maternity shops had stuff that was long enough for me!

All has been going well here (obviously the kiss of death!) Ash is down to waking once a night again and I got SIX hours sleep in a row last night which hasn't happened for a long time. Hence still on here at 10pm when have been in bed at 9.30pm for last week!
Seem to be getting 'in to' things as well - am running the Mums and Tots group tomorrow as regulars are away, am going to pre-school committee meeting later this week and might get involved and am working at the NCT sale on Saturday. Admittedly the latter is mainly because we get first pick of the stuff before the punters come in but its quite a laugh too. Was 8 months pregnant last time and will have the result with me this time as he has decided that he won't take a bottle at the moment. I've got a freezer full of milk so am on a mission to get him to change his mind, any tips people?

Right, sorry if I've left anyone out and hope another mega-post hasn't sent you to sleep. I'll try and get on a bit more regularly, especially if the sleeping gets better.
Night night

beartime · 20/03/2006 22:21

Golden - Dundee has a better view than Perth as it overlooks the estuary and the hills on the other side, but Perth is probably a nicer place to be in as it is smaller.

Tessasmum thanks for the encouragement Smile - I would love to just find out when I was 3mths pg or something like my mum did but I'm too keen so I'd probably find out the first minute possible Grin Yes I'm sure about 10 Grin actually I'd love more but I want to make it reachable! DH said "three more" today - yay! 4 down, 6 to go...

Feel free to tell me to mind my own business but is anyone here claiming child tax credit? I was amazed cos I realised we qualify on income basis, and then read the leaflet and said its for those with low income, and I didn't even know we had a low income. I guess I still am used to those student days of living off £1.50 a week for food, so everything else seems so much better Grin

novadandypowder · 20/03/2006 23:28

Tessasmum - the photographer is coming to our house and bringing an array of portable backdrops with him. With Nats mood swings that seemed like the best idea all round.

Did some shameless name dropping today to get Nat into a nursery school. DH's business partner sent his two kids there and apparently the headmistress is a bit of a starf*cker so had to do the 'don't you know who I am' - lol! Hopefully it's worked as the nursery school might be able to influence one of the schools we're on the waiting list of.

DH always brings me back presents when he goes away, and he's under strict instructions to buy out baby Gap as well. He's been star spotting today as they're filming on the Fox Studios lot and so far he's spied Leslie Neilson and Lisa Kudrow.

beartime · 21/03/2006 07:34

Baby Gap Envy. A friend gave him a pair of trousers from there - they are so nice!

babyonboard · 21/03/2006 08:15

morning all..

must agree..i love baby gap, Dp's dad brought back tons of stuff from america for O , and I'm ashamed to say half of it was stored away and forgotten about and is now too small...ah well..it will do for baby no.2 Smile

I also love the japanese label f.a.s, we got some beautiful clothes as gifts from my cousin who works in tokyo.

I've never been to america either beks, but plan to at some point. I'm guilty of having strong opinions about the place whithout having experienced it myself which isn't good..
I love amsterdam..such a beautiful city, and the healthcare there is fantastic..dp ended up in hospital there, and it was nicer than our hotel..lol
Has anyone been to prague? we're going for christmas this year which should b lovely..just hope it hasn't been too taken over by rowdy english stag dos and the likes.

i'm still in loads of pain tody..and still feeling very foolish..the offending jeans have been sent to the drycleaners to be turned up..lol..they were from zara, does anyone else find their trousers are just overly long? i have 33inch inside leg and they are still way too big for me..hmph..
just glad o was in his pram at the time and not the sling..eek...

nova- photo shoot sounds great, we are planning to do one soon, but will wait til o is a bit bigger or theres a chance he'll just snooze through it, lol.
how long is your DH away for?

londoner..do you know what 'the big scream' is this friday?so annoyed to have missed tsotsi, but it's probably a bit of a weepy on anyawy..

has anything been arranged for 'operation london'?

sounds like the little man's awake...sorry for the long post..lol..

Londoner · 21/03/2006 08:38

MorningSmile,

Got ds2 and dd1 at home with some nasty virus today, came on quite suddenly.... thought it was a bit strange last night when ds1 ate all of his usual tea followed by about a pound of vanilla ice-cream, then 2 yoghurts, I then found him cracking open a tin of olives, which he proceeded to scoff, 20 minutes later he was onto bowls of Rice Pops breakfast cereal.........bizarro! Wasn't sure if dd1 was really unwell enough to stay off school, lol, she kept hanging around while I was giving Calpol/flannelling down ds and seemed like she wanted a piece of the action..... but as she's also missing out on going to a friend's house after school I think she must be feeling pretty bad. Ah well, thank goodness I did so much yesterday.
Beartime, not spring cleaning really, just general floor-cleaning and washing pile action..... You should find all the info you need on Child Tax Credits \link{http://www.direct.gov.uk/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/TaxCredits/TaxCreditsArticles/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4015478&chk=BUtaLj\here beartimeSmile}.
BoB, you poor thing, must have given you a real fright. Try to keep your leg up as much as you can, even if it's only when you're feeding it will help the healing. Have you any arnica cream? It really is magical stuff for that type of thing.. you just slap it on liberally.... also cold compresses are wonderful... and ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory....(sp?)
Lovely to hear you all talking about different parts of the world, sends me on lovely imaginary journeysSmile.

Londoner · 21/03/2006 08:39

Awwww, I tried to get an interactive smile there but it didn't work.......... right off with my Florence Nightingale cap in hand..........

babyonboard · 21/03/2006 08:43

can anyone give an opinion on \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Classic-Wooden-Baby-High-Chair-Stylish-Funky-Design_W0QQitemZ7751116007QQcategoryZ2986QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\this} highchair..it looks great, but not sure how practical it will be...

babyonboard · 21/03/2006 08:45

londoner..lol at your dd 'wanting in on the action' hehehee
hope they are feeling better soon.

thnks for the arnica tip..i've got loads i meant to use post birth and forgot about..I will dig it out..

Londoner · 21/03/2006 09:03

Thanks BoB, glad you've got some arnica, keep slapping it on regularly, it should really help. Highchair looks great, haven't seen that particular one in action, but have only heard great things about a similar one that my cousin and another friend have and is still used by their teenagers!\link{http://www.backinaction.co.uk/tripptrapp
\trip trap}

Diege · 21/03/2006 09:05

Morning everyone!Smile. Also have sick child LONDONER - came on after overeating too Sad. At least dd3 is in school, so some consolation!
BOB: high chair looks great, just the sort of thing we're after. However, if you are buying rather than bidding, I'd check to see how much they retail for as p&p is pretty steep. Also, without a tray you need to make sure your table is of an appropriate height Smile. Good luck!
Love BabyGap too Grin; girl's stuff is lovely, and it seems to have come down in price too since dd1 was born. My fave baby's stuff is Catamini, and of course my precious OililyGrin. At least clothes last longer as they get older! LOL at friend who told me I would have to have another baby just to justify the stuff I've bought! Shock.
Right, major winge-fest on from dd2...I find it really hard when they are ill, always have Blush!!
Diege Smile

Londoner · 21/03/2006 09:08

Wow, yours looks really similar doesn't it but for a fraction of the cost, go for it!

Londoner · 21/03/2006 09:09

Diege - poor you! Hope everyone is better quicklySmile.

Londoner · 21/03/2006 09:14

Diege - Libby is in school? Really? Is this a creche in prep for your return to work? Wow I must have missed that conversation, how does it feel?

Diege · 21/03/2006 09:14

Hoping quick recoveries in the LONDONER household too! Actually, you have it a lot worse with 2 poorly children and baby to look after Blush.
BTW all, should we start to think about venues on yahoo for meet-up? I know it's ages away, but just thinking people may be away for Easter etc...Ok, I'm a control freak!!

Diege · 21/03/2006 09:16

LOL!!Silly me, meant dd1 Blush Grin.

Londoner · 21/03/2006 09:18

londoner..yes DP uses it to speak to family abroad..the quality isn't perfect at the moment, but it's fast moving technology so well worth looking into..

diege..hugs to dd too..

Rodeo · 21/03/2006 09:55

Morning :)

Oh no! Poorly children Diege - hope she gets better soon :)

Bob Shock poor you! My sister did the same thing last year on her way to work with long trousers and heels - she went flying and tore her trousers in front of a queue of stationary traffic. The 10 metres further she did exactly the same thing again Shock in front of the same queue of stationary traffic. Oh how I laughed!

I myself am sporting a bruise just under my nipple where J started sucking in the wrong place yesterday - ouch!

My dad goes to Prague a lot with work and dp went last month and they both agree it is beautiful, but behind the facade the poverty of the locals is preety evident. Although I think this is the case for many places unfortunately

Nova Shock at private school politics, that's terrible!! J is also a finger sucker (or finger chomper rather). After my ice-cube tray preaching I finally got round to making a load up last night - it's a messy business!

I'm a country girl too, although do love the freedom in London, my dad worked for the railway so we've had many daytrips hopping on and off the tube. LOL at not liking the Parisiens GO! Reminded me of when my dad ordered a fab sounding pudding in a restaurant in Paris and it turned out to be a bigbowl of cream! He carried on eating it saying 'I'll get to it soon!' but no, nothing under the cream Grin I also got kicked by a shopkeeper in Paris when I was about 8 Shock I think she thought I was going to pinch something. And, of course, I didn't tell my parents.....

Right I'll catch up more later, someone's made me a lovely stinky nappy to change - bathtime I think :)

goldenoldie · 21/03/2006 10:02

Beartime - no, we don't qualify for anything sadly.

Nova - come on - name drop here too - we want to know WHO sends their kids to the nursery.

Londoner - yes, know about Skype - only works if the person at the other end has it too I think?

Rodeo · 21/03/2006 11:00

Just thought I'd mention I've started with the LONDON MEETUP plans on our Yahoo site! x x x
