LilJ · 13/03/2006 12:15

I've just seen the weigh-ins and I'm game so here goes:

Current weight: 10 stone 4 lbs
Ideal weight: 9 stone
Current diet - none, have been eating loads of chocolate, butter etc. but am going to start cutting out the pastries & sweets and I do loads of walking.
Goal: to lose 2lb a week - is that realistic? I've never dieted before Blush

J xx

BEKsmum · 13/03/2006 12:42

Afternoon girls, have been having a bit of a chuckle over your weigh in's if you think you guys have got problems I've got to lose roughly what you lot weigh to start with to get me back to a normal size - I reckon I have a twin trying to get out rather than a slim me Grin Grin

Rodeo, hope Joe has a great B'Day today, wow a private showing of Chicken Little very celebrity!!! Hope he enjoys his party this afternoon too. Don't blame you for taking the easy option!!!

Right best go and feed Ben as he's still off school today, with a cough and the snots - looks like it's left over party food for lunch!!! Whoops don't think about the junk food I have in my house you guys who are being good [grin}

Hope you are all well Beks

ChaCha · 13/03/2006 13:03

Hello everyone,

Birthday wishes to your LO Rodeo :)

Interesting to read about weaning. Z not yet showing many signs of needing to yet, just looking at the food on the table, nothing more.

I daren't post my weight Blush It's worse than I thought. Let's just say I've fallen into the 'huge fat cow' category Blush I am 3.5 stone heavier than I was on getting married. The shame! Well, endeavour to make it to 10stone. Won't be over ambitious.

Anyone care to do the November ladies weight stats list?

beartime · 13/03/2006 13:07

yes Busy I had read that, but thanks for posting it - is there anyone else other than LLL that would say that? And won't your HVs get on at you if you don't wean at 6 mths?

Nova - out of interest can I ask what made you think again on baby-led weaning?

You know when it comes to me doing it I'm going to be asking tonnes of qus!

Golden - you're hilarious! Why not try weightwatchers? You can do the at home version - costs less and less humiliating Grin

Rodeo - what are the problems of late weaning? I doubt I'll get further than 6mths but you never know...

LilJ - 2lb is fine - that's what you lose on a normal Weighwatchers diet. But if you go any more than that then you send your body into starvation mode and binge later, so 2lb a week is s'posed to be just right.

Diege · 13/03/2006 13:08

Afternoon all Smile. Just got back from hospital for Jasmine's scan. Things seem fine, and while there's a bit of fluid around the left kidney, they are not particularly concerned, and may scan again in a year just to be on safe side Smile. The kidneys look healthy, and there is no scarring, which is the main concern, as this can lead to damage, and in extreme cases dialysis. J did really well, and was spoilt with some toy trolls and McDonalds (ewww!!!)Libby's scan is next, but not worrying yet as it's not until July Smile.
Good to hear all your weaning stories; really interesting stuff Smile. I attempted a few spoons a few days ago, but realised it was more for my benefit than L's so am leaving it for a while. She is only 4 months after all Blush. Will start if she seems ready, but am happy to wait until 6 months. Seems odd, because advice was 12 weeks with dd1!
Right, to the weigh-in! (standing on scales, which are always under the kitchen table).
Weight: 9 stone
Target weight: 8 stone, or slightly under.
Diet: Slimming World
BTW,before you all go mad and think I've got an eating disorder Wink, I am tiny build, and have always been arounf 7.5 to 8 stone, even after dds 1& 2...so 9 stone is a bit too much for me Smile.
BEAR: I know you can do SW when pregnant, though you do need weekly signature's from midwife, which is good, not that I have ever felt even slightly inclined to diet when pregnant Grin.
Right, being called to put a video on, so speak later!
Diege Smile

Meant to add HAPPY BIRTHDAY to RODEO'S JOE Smile. We choose soft play option everytime (well, since they were 3 plus) too; so much less exhausting than at home!.

beartime · 13/03/2006 13:12

ChaCha - why don't you just post your weight minus a few stone and then add them on privately if you're too embarrassed - no need to tell us how many stone you've taken off Grin

I would be embarrassed if I had to say how much non-baby fat I put on in pregnancy - I went up 5 clothes sizes Shock admittedly I was skinny b4 but that's no excuse! It was so nice having the excuse to binge, and not feeling good made it even worse!

Busyalexsmummy · 13/03/2006 13:50

Beartime-nosey Q here, but, why are you desperate to conceive again so quickly? sorry, being a nosy parkerBlush

We're in limbo with Rosie's weaning. I started a couple of weeks ago, she had two days of baby rice and a little apple puree then I was told to wait until her digestive probs are sorted out. So we're on hold for now. Tobes was weaned at 14 weeks. Back then the guideline was 16 weeks but he was sleeping badly, grabbing food off my plate and seemed ready to chew off his own arm.

Been reading some new books - Gowri Motha's Gentle First Year, Stephanie Calman's Confessions of a Bad Mother and Piers Morgan's The Insider. I really like Motha's book and wish I had read her book on pregnancy. It was one of her homeopathic recommendations that finally sorted out Toby's poorly tummy. The Bad Mother book is OK but I'm hoping it gets better. I don't really identify with the main character, she never really dreamt of motherhood whereas I was putting pillows under my nightgown from about age 7! Morgan's book is fantastic. So much gossip!

Diege, so glad the scan went well. It sounds like they're taking very good care of your girls. So glad to hear it.

Happy birthday to Joe!! We've got a few four year old boys on the list. Hope you have a great day.

Hi Beks and ChaCha!!

Have we ever discussed how we chose our screen names? Mine is very obvious and boring (from Texas and birthday is 11 Jan) but I was wondering about Diege, Cha Cha, Nova, Beartime, Rodeo, etc.

tex111 · 13/03/2006 15:26

I've got a few questions for those with 3 or more children. DH and I keep talking about whether or not to have another baby. We both feel that urge to have another but we worry about the practical and lifestyle issues like needing a bigger car, a bigger house, being able to afford holidays and flights to the US with more children. I also worry about spreading myself too thin. Tobes doesn't get the same quality attention he got before Rosie and I worry that with three maybe none of the children would get enough of my time. How do you cope?

Londoner, now that you have four children do you ever think about leaving London? We'd really like to stay in London but property prices and private secondary school for three could really change our standard of living.

I'd be really interested to hear how it's affected your lives having a third baby. Maybe we can make a decision and I can stop thinking about it!

LilJ · 13/03/2006 15:28

You know things are VERY bad when your cleaning lady says that it looks like you've gained weight since you gave birth! I'm mortified!!!! Definitely have to cut out the chocolate...

yorkshirepuddling · 13/03/2006 16:03

Afernoon ladies, not been on all weekend so its taken me ages to catch up with you all. Busy, I love your product it looks really professional. I think you could easily get £30ish pounds for that in a shop and hopefully on ebay. I'd love to be able to buy a pregnant friend that and would love it even more to receive it. I think you've hit upon a winner. I'd be tempted on a buy it now or if not a reserve for it as you don't want it to go for too small an amount when you've obviously put so much into it.

Well we definately have teeth coming through here. I can feel a couple under the gums and we have rosie-red cheeks and Holly as her fist permanently in her mouth. She has been really grumpy with it as well but seems to be better today.

Well I got myself a brand new car this weekend after loads of hints to dp. My corsa just wasn't big enough for the three of us and my pram.

I also went on the hunt for wedding dresses - I found one that I absolutely loved and am very tempted to but - just don't know if I should as its the first one that I tried on. Going again on Friday so I'll see if I can find anything to compare.

I'm happy to do the weigh in but seems like I need it alot more than you lot.

Weight 12st 10
Target a size 14 dress (no idea what size i'd be but would love to get to 10 stone)
current diet - weightwatchers no count

More spurred on this weekend when the woman in the dress shop wanted me to try on a size 24 dress - Shock I'm nowhere near a 24 and told her i'd be leaving.

I'm glad to hear that everyone seems to be getting better from the illnesses last week. ASfor weaning, i'm leaving it to 6 months too. I guess thats a first time new mum for you.

Gotta go, check in later.

beartime · 13/03/2006 16:18

BAM - because DH is 43 (which is not old, as instructed to say by Tessasmum Grin) and has bad health and is not even sure he wants another one but is game enough to try at the mo. Whereas me - I want as big a family as God and DH will give me!! 10 would be nice Smile. Originally I never wanted children, but I always thought if I did, that I would like a large family cos it would be so much fun. SOOOoooo I have to take advantage of DH being game and go for it b4 he changes his mind, and I have to get them in as fast as poss to even have a stab at a large family - IYSWIM.

Tex - Beartime is DH's nickname for me - cos I used to call him teddy bear Blush so he started calling me baby bear, then abbreviated to bear and beartime - who knows why! Now he hardly ever calls me by my real name - just bear!

Goodness LilJ your cleaning lady must be pretty frank! Didn't you feel like throwing a broom at her or anything Wink

BEKsmum · 13/03/2006 16:19

LOL LilJ, bet I can make you feel better

Two questions both asked in the last couple of weeks whilst out without the boys ...

  1. God poor you, haven't you had it yet?
  1. So when's the baby due then?

Answer from me ...

Last October!!! Grin Grin

It took a minute for the penny to drop and both were mortified, it amused me though.

I can't take it too seriously, I know I'm huge and need to lose weight & will now as I can't expect to run around after two boys as I am, but I also think there's more serious things in life to worry about other than putting Cadbury's out of business Smile

I'll be interested to read the answers to Tex's questions as I'd like another baby too, but dh isn't keen for all the same reasons.
Two Q's of my own to add to those of you have three or more but two of the same sex first - were you chasing the opposite sex when you went in for another child?

Diege glad Jasmine's scan went well, you must be pleased, glad both girls were good for you at the hospital.

Right off to watch dond although this woman irritates me! Beks

BEKsmum · 13/03/2006 16:24

Ooops sorry changed my mind on the 2nd question!

Busyalexsmummy · 13/03/2006 17:14

Your very braveSmile

Diege · 13/03/2006 17:22

Hi Smile! A few answers to questions while they are still in my mind! 'Diege' was a nickname given to me by my work colleagues (initials are DJ), as she was a big Roseanne fan whose son (DJ) was nicknamed Diege. I still use my maiden name for work, so have initials DJ at work, and DW at home (can be confusing and somethimes mortifying when signing credit cards etc !)
Right, 3 babies. Well, we always liked the idea of 3, but didn't have a 3rd because of wanting a boy, just because we wanted 3 children Smile. To be honest, it doesn't feel like more work at the moment, as she has just 'slotted' in and actually things seem a little calmer, perhaps she takes the heat away from the intensity of dd 1 & 2's very close relationship.
Think the main difficulty was going from 1 to 2; i have heard that 2 is more than double the work, but 3 is less than an extra one, no doubt due to experinece and chilled out- ness (not that I am particularly!). The only change was a slightly bigger car, and we are going to move to a bigger house. This is really due to wanting a garden, and not esp. 4 bedrooms (we live on a canal, so our 'garden' isn't great for kids!
I'm going to try and scale down work from full-time, which I've managed up to now, to either flexi full time, or 3-4 days a week, just because I'm feeling work-life balance spiralling out of control a little, and that's when I'm not even back at work yet! Not sure 3 is it either, as the more we have, the more we enjoy them, though would have to consider getting a 'balance' where they are getting enough attention from us. I know more than 1 means sharing mum and dad, but they do get so much out of siblings Smile.
Right, a long post for me!
YORKSHIRE: !!!buy the first dress!!! It's not often that you fall in love with a dress, and imagine how cross you would feel if it had gone Shock. Can;t believe how stupid the shop woman was...does she honestly get any business???
I have also had a few 'so you're still holding onto that baby' comments ...it is tougher after no.3!!! (and no-one tells you about the afterpains!!as bad as labour!; are they worse still after 4, LONDONER?)
Right, got to get that Barney video off...Libby and Jasmine are mesmorised!!!Arghhhh!!!the shame!!
Diege Smile

tex111 · 13/03/2006 17:26

Nova, Diege and Golden, keep forgetting to say it's so interesting to hear you talk about your theses. Being a longterm expat I have a personal interest in the idea of national identity. I've spent years trying to understand the English and have read everything I can find. I love Kate Fox's Watching the English. So funny and so informative. I wish I had it 12 years ago when I first came over! Of course now when I go home I'm not 'really' Texan and I'm not English so it seems I'm stuck somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic. Smile

Diege · 13/03/2006 17:30

The English fascinate me too TEX as I'm Welsh! Smile.

Enthusia · 13/03/2006 17:49

BEKsmum · 13/03/2006 17:52

Enthusia good to have you back, sorry to hear Sam isn't well, some of the older ones have had this too as has Busy's lo.
