Diege · 10/03/2006 16:52

JUst realised BOB it's oscar, and not a toddler! Might be best just to staick to calpol, though I know tepid baths are onyl recommeded as a last resort, as it really shick their little bodies, and that tepid (not cold) flannel on forehead is best. I think the swaddling thing could actually be quite dangerous, as to raise temp on baby can be quite dangerous, and may result in febrile convulsion (not in itself a major panic, but scary). Perhaps NHS dirct could confirm?

Diege · 10/03/2006 16:53

Sorry for APPALLING spelling!!!

babyonboard · 10/03/2006 17:33

cheers diege..just what I thought...calpol only for the little guy..
as his fever isn't too bad I've just been wiping him down occasionlly with cold flannels...he loves that of course..lol!
he's drifted off again..he's so exhuasted..with red eyes and hardly the energy to cry..its so Sad

just read you are confiriming a trip down here! woohoo..would be lovley to have a bunch of us together in one room, if we're anything like we are on here we'll be there all day nattering away..lol
bam hope alex is okay..and the doctor actually made it round...

babyonboard · 10/03/2006 17:40

btw..where is enthusia!?

laughed at an earlier comment 'she's probably running around like a blue arsed fly'..hehhe

Diege · 10/03/2006 17:45

yes, I have been wondering about Enthusia a lot lately; don't have her mobile no, though she has mine and Twinkle's (as does the whole world Blush. Maybe CHACHA knows?
Right, nightmare hour coming up (dds times 3 tired, hungry, grouchy), plus me and DH the same Grin. Anyone else have hell's hell between 6 and 7? Don't say it's just me!
Diege Smile

babyonboard · 10/03/2006 17:54

Diege..only got the one baby and D.P (who often acts like one) to deal with between 6/7..

often when he calls to say he's off out for drinks i'm relieved..is that awful!?

just p*s me off when he gets in, throws his clothes/shoes/ work documents everywhere and then asks me to make him something to eat, when I 'm about to get O in the bath/ hanging up washing/ running a bath and planning relaxation time for myself...

babyonboard · 10/03/2006 19:21

tex..just called you and your d.p answered and sounded a bit surprised and clueless as to who I was..
sorry for confusing him..lol

Oskar has gone to sleep and stayd sleep for an hour so fingers crossed he's going to get over this soon..doctor still not here though,,grrr,

prob won't be posting for a while as hopefully tomorrows plans will go ahead, then I'll be in sheffield for a week ( anyone local want to meet up!?)

Diege · 10/03/2006 19:47

LOL BoB about your 'second child' GrinA bit like that here tonight; put LIbby to bed at 6.30, expecting girls to be in PJs when I came back down (putting clothes away for 20 mins), but they were running around like banshees, with DH on one of his (20 min) visits to toilet with the paper Shock. Have sent him off with his tail between his legs to get me some diet coke with lime Grin.
Would love to have met up in Sheffield but have hosp' appoints, jabs, and parents next week. Would have been good practice for London too...will let you know if things change Smile
Speak later! Hope poorly bubs and todds feeling better Smile
Diege

ChaCha · 10/03/2006 20:09

Hi girls,

Sorry to hear about poorly little ones :( DS had similar at 4 weeks old and was in hospital for two days, really hope I never have to go through that again! Thinking of you.

Enthusia hasn't been on MN for ages, am sure some of you have noticed. She seems very happy in her text message & Sam also seems to be thriving, am hoping to meet her again soon. I'm glad she has been mentioned, it is always nice to be missed.

Diege, I'll CAT you. Must get back to the inlaws x

beartime · 10/03/2006 22:08

Oooh Diege - solids - really??? It's reading the GF routines for 4mths+ with all her puree gear that's putting you off isn't it Grin I read a lot of archived threads on here abt holding out till 6 mths and a lot of people said they go weird at 4-6 mths and weaning doesn't make any difference in fact often makes it worse - if that's any help!

Caleb was popping off every second while feeding tonight then when I put him on the other side he was fine for 10 mins then did the same. So I kept swapping him from side to side! This seems to happen a lot at the last feed of the day -d'you think it could me low milk supply or something?

Diege - sorry to let you down but 6pm is quite relaxing as its nappy change, kick and feed time relaxing in the dim lighted bedroom reading my book with no disturbances! we have dinner at 5pm so the rush is over! But then don;t have any others LOs (yet)

I just bought the book 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' as I read it had stuff in on charting while bfing -exiting stuff Smile from reading threads on here it seems you can be infertile anything from 4mths to 2 yrs after bfing - so who knows...

beartime · 10/03/2006 22:09

BoB and BAM hope your babies get better soon - its so scary having a sick child - and my only experience was a cold!

Busyalexsmummy · 10/03/2006 22:56

Beartime-alfies doing that all the time at the moment, doesnt seem settled on the breast at all. From speaking to other b/feeding mums, they all seem to go through it at this stage, so I guess its a case of riding it out!

Have finished 1 base for my "thing" and just have to await the postman tomorrow for the last bits so I can get started, then hopefully by next week I will have completed 1 and can let you all in on what "it" is lolGrin night x

alfiesmum · 11/03/2006 09:29

Hi all,
I cant believe how much you lot can chat!
Haven't posted for ages as usual!

I can sympathise with beksmum, busy ect Alfie has had sicky bug on and off for the last week or so. I have only just managed to air the house of that lingering sick smell. Why is it when you think you have washed and scrubbed everything it still doesn't go!

Finally getting back to normal and now Alfie has woken up this morning with what looks like conjuctivitus (sp?)

Beartime/busy - Oscar is also fussing when bf and is not taking as much milk as usual. He still seems happy in himself, but like you say last feed he only stays on for a few minutes.
Also (sorry if tmi) his poo has changed and is now more solid compared to the liquid it has been since birth? I haven't started weaning yet so I assume its just where he is taking in less liquid?

We have a very stressed house here. We sold our house finally and should be moving by the end of the month. We are buying a plot of land with an old bungalow and will be knocking it down and rebuilding! I had forgotton how much worry there is with buying and selling, I just want it all to be over!

BOB - hope the doctor turned up and Oskar is feeling better, its horrible when they are ill and there is nothing you can do.

Hello to all the new people by the way! love all the new photos, especially pregnant pictures. I must update mine, dont think im brave enough to put one of me on though!

Londoner · 11/03/2006 12:14

Hello all,

Was just surfing for help and advice re: weaning bf baby and found this which I found really helpful and interesting, thought I'd post it on here quickly............

Have great weekends, will catch up on MondaySmile.....

Rodeo · 11/03/2006 12:45

Morning :)

Oh dear not more poorly babes - hope Alex and Oskar are much better today. I'm pretty sure Oskar is big enough for baby Nurofen BTW, I think they can take a 2.5ml dose after 3 months. Bob have a great time tonight! If you come anywhere near Derby next week the me & Laylasmum will def come to see you. If not we'll hopefully sort London soon :) I'll put my mob no. on the yahoo site for you just in case!

Lovely piccy Londoner/Candi, glad you had a nice time, these mothe & baby cinema things sound brill!

Alfiemum, nice to see you back on! Your house move sound v. exciting!! Are you going to have to live in a caravan for a period? Bet Alfie will love it!

Diege, Will have a look at train times etc. Was thinking about staying over the night before too - dp wants to take the children to London for the day, so selfishly thought that maybe it could coinside with that. Also I keep getting 'get to London for 6 pound' adverts from Midland Mainline, but when I look at the website they're all about 80 pound and I can't find the cheap ones!! Think I'll have to ring them instead as the website is shockingly bad (not to mention confusing)! BTW I'm glad someone else hads a dh who goes for 20 min toilet visits! Diege I'll put my email no on the yahoo thing so we can go into planning mode!

Right think I'd better start geting ready, was at work last night and didn't get my lie-in this morning - I won't bore you with details but I am only just coming out of a major bag on!!

Bye!

PS Bam - can't wait for the grand unveiling!!

beartime · 11/03/2006 13:19

Busy and Alfiesmum thanks for the reassurance - its good to hear that other babies do it too.

Londoner - thanks for the link, I've never heard anyone say later than 6 mths was OK, so that was interesting...

Diege · 11/03/2006 16:29

Just a quick hello as crisis mode here with 5 under 5s in the house, arghhhhh!!!!!
Speak later,
Diege Smile

Busyalexsmummy · 11/03/2006 18:18

yay! have finished the baby girl one, so after ds1 has gone to bed-7pm, i'll upload the pics of the finished item, the stuff inside and it and finally what it looks like cellophaned+tagged!

1-How much would you expect it to be?

thanks so much! liz

Tex

Just a quickie to say the party is still on tomorrow, however Ben is not overly well, he was sick on Thursday and appears to have a bit of a loose tummy today but more importantly he has had a temperature and now has a full on cough and cold.

I'll leave it to you to decide whether you still want to come or not, I will quite understand if you decide not too and won't be offended in any way. I have let all the other parents know too, but as some of them are his pre-school chums they probably all have the same germs anyway.

Hope you do decide to come still, but will understand if you give us a very wide berth I'd like to run away myself at the moment Grin Beks

tex111 · 11/03/2006 21:49

Beks, glad we spoke. Tobes is very sad to be missing the party but I don't think I could survive anymore illness at the moment and I know Toby wouldn't because I would kill him! Must meet up as soon as Ben is feeling better though. We've got his pressie all wrapped and waiting in the hall. Smile

OK, going to try to catch up with you guys! Prepare for a marathon messge...

BoB, good to chat on the IM last night. Hope you're having a great birthday weekend! I'm sure O is in great hands with your Mum. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Londoner and Candie, the movie sounds like so much fun. I think I'll talk DH into taking a Friday off and join you sometime. I can't remember the last time I went to the movies. Blush

Candie, a wedding and a christening!! How exciting. As for the flights, just be sure to take a change of clothes for yourself. I had one flight to the US on my own with Tobes when he was little and he threw up all over both of us. I had to wear pajamas from first class all the way through passport control and baggage claim. The agricultural hound dogs went crazy when they smelled us coming!

Diege, Bear, I'm happy to start with my starting weight on Monday. Maybe seeing it in print will shame me into trying harder. Has a massage/exfoliation today and had to showerat the spa afterwards. They had a big mirror just outside the shower and I swear it was my mother and not me getting out! When did that happen?? So ready to lose some weight.

Bear, just saw Caleb's pics and he's so gorgeous! Such an expressive little face. Rosie spits up a lot too. Sometimes it's not so bad and sometimes it seems like a whole feed. They thought it was reflux and she was on Gaviscon but not it looks like a cow's milk allergy or sensitivity. She had a lot of runny poos and the blood in her nappy which changed the diagnosis. Much better on the soy formula but still spits up loads. She gets through half a dozen bibs, a couple of vests and three or four muslins a day. I think it all calms down in a couple of months when they start sitting up. That's what I keep telling myself anyway! It sounds crazy but there will come a time when we miss that baby sick smell!

Diege and Rodeo, so great that you guys are coming to London!! It'll be so much fun.

BAM, congrats on the Ebay shop! Ooooh, can't wait to do some shopping.

Hello to anyone I've missed. I've been typing and checking kiddos so hope this makes sense!

Busyalexsmummy · 11/03/2006 22:02

Ok, have upload pics on yahoo, if you've got 5 mins, let me know what you think..........

OP posts:
beartime · 11/03/2006 22:08

Tex - thanks, every day I say to DH I can't believe how goodlooking he is (of course everyone says he looks like DH so I get v. jealous!). I was wondering if the spitting up got better when they can sit up - can they self-burp then too? Sometimes he burps on the breast which is v. funny! And he's just started to stick his fingers in his mouth while he's feeding which of course means he doesn't get much milk - silly baby!

Milestone today - first time he actually purposely touched the play gym above him and played with it!

Diege · 12/03/2006 09:36

Hi everyone! Smile BAM, LOVE the products; they look superb and very professional. Have seen similar advertised in v.expensive shops, and know they sell for a lot. Not sure how I would sell them on e-bay, as I'm not too familiar with the formay, though I think you should have the option of being able to buy straight away, and not just bid. Depends how many you want to make up! As on e-bay, I guess people want to think they have got a bargain, so I'd say £20-25??? (could be WAY out here Blush).
BEAR: yesss, I have been influenced by G's 4 months weaning purees etc, (though have bought jars!); tried her with a few spoons of pear and apple pudding yesterday after 11 feed, which she took really well, smacking her lips together, though had an expression of disgust! Have decided to leave it for now though, as I'm not convinced she is that hungry based on milk consumption
Well, lots of snow here today, so we're going to get sledge out for the girls (ok, so DH is, I'm staying tucked up inside!).
BTW, on for weigh in tommorrow; actual weights and then target weight??
Haven't had chance to catch up yet, so will read up and post again later Smile
Diege Smile

Candiemom · 12/03/2006 09:40

Well hope all the fluey babies are feeling better. Poor little things, and poor moms. It is SO worrying.

BoB have a great time in Sheffield. Hope the snow is fun. I am so envious. No snow at home.

Chacha -- hospital at 4 weeks! You poor thing. We had a stuffy nose at 2 weeks and this was traumatising. Can't imagine.

Bear, my mom got pg when breastfeeding and so have several people I know. You never know! Are you planning #2? We are on bottles (unfort) and we are also having some finickiness so maybe not just bf at this stage. Not eating as much on all feeds and not feeding at predictable times. Hurray for developmental milestone! It is thrilling and he is clearly doing great!

Alfiesmom, hang in there -- it will all be worth it. One hour at a time during those high stress times is the only way I have ever learned to deal with it.

BAM, can't wait to see your product. Might have to wait till I get back though. Good for you for doing it -- how did you ever find the time?

Rodeo, perhaps Londoner and I would have preferred riding in the great outdoors! But it IS a brilliant thing -- I didn't find that the crying babies interfered with the movie itself at all. Totally worth it. I wonder when the London meet up will be! Hope I'm here for it.

Tex, thanks for the tip! Actually DP to be said the same thing and I dismissed it as I usually just let the barf dry on me (ew!) but your story about the PJs (though amusing for me), scared me straight. You can bring whoever you want to the movies and we'll help out if you make it some time. It was a very comfortable theatre. There might be one in your neck of the woods picturehouses?? Funny story about your weight. I had a HUGE shock seeing myself in the full length mirror when I was pg and what spurred me to start trying to lose weight was dp saying he preferred another nightgown on me it was one of those 'do you think I'm fat?' 'Not really' moments. I was steaming mad as HE could stand to lose a few, but it did the trick and I've been working pretty hard. I'm now at pre-preg weight but this was too fat anyway AND my body has totally changed -- much more fat about the middle since pg. Sigh. I feel like I'm eating NOTHING and yet it takes for ever!! We have cows milk allergy too and are on Nutramigen, which we now add thickener to. She does better on this one than the LF one, but it's not perfect either. SO COMPLICATED!

OK hope I didn't leave anyone out. We are all packed and ready to head out tomorrow a.m. I had my travel anxiety attack yesterday (the older I get the less I like to fly, and dh to be is going via New York so I'll worry about him too...). Will try to log on while home but no computer at hotel so more likely speak to you all in just over two weeks. Have a wonderful couple weeks with your babies and lives -- I'll think about you, believe me. Love being part of this little gang!
