should have gone to bed but was enticed by a giant pule of washing, the first episode of "Game of Thrones" (DH has just got the DVDs) and an attempt at de-twisting my first knitting-in-the-round project AKA Project Certain Doom What's meant To Be Shorties But Will End Up Being An Inpromptu Teacosy. I think it's now straight (that is, a Tube rather than a Mobius strip) but time will tell...

Night all!....

12,2 and 5. Definitely better than he was, but I am shortly going to be stepping down from the boob wagon as I need to get more than 3 hours sleep in a row, and we are nearly at the mythical 6 month mark. I am going
To try the mythical morning-and-night compromise but I suspect DS will not buy this. To cap it off my electric steriliser is playing up (keeps saying it has no water and cutting out when it's fine).i just feel we're nearing the end of the BF road. Most of my RL friends have been sympathetic as they can see how truly knackered I am, apart from one friend who was surprisingly Boob Nazi and spouted about how HER chidren were never ill cos she BF them for nine months and for 12 months and Bfing might be tiring but should be a "sacrifice I should be willing to make" in order to "reap the rewards later".....(this said to me standing semiconcious with buggy on achool run with odd socks and manky hair due to extreme fatigue)... Aaaarg!

NorthernChinchilla · 15/06/2012 07:07

Tell me aethel, did you refrain from beating her round the head with the first thing that came to hand? Will you refrain from pointing out to her, when her children do get ill, that 'oooh, looky, bf is not some magic shield that protects them from everything throughout life'?

By the way, I read the typo as being on the alcohol run, and thought that if you'd got to that level you really needed a break Grin

DS is being adored by all family and friend, and his chunky thighs much commented-upon!

Oh, and i asked my friend, and what she had was giardia, what your DS had sounds a whole new world of nastiness Tyel. How're you all getting on?

Figgygal · 15/06/2012 08:08

Lo woke at 4.30 was still awake at 5.30 then woke at 6.30 for a poo is now asleep again in bed next to me. With parents here feel under pressure to keep him quiet over night but he was not having any of it.

Dh and I are off to a wedding today, DS staying home with mum and dad is 1st night away from him, an sure ill be fine once have cracked into the table wine Grin

Have a fab day ladies

hawthers · 15/06/2012 08:13

aethel you are kidding with the bf chat?

That 'friend' is ridonculous. How about offering to give her a call and chat for each bf so she can share your sleeplessness and see how she coped for 6 months. Pah!

LittleMissFlustered · 15/06/2012 08:32

The octopus has had nothing but breastmilk and is continually ill. Your acquaintance is a muppet aethel, and not one of the cute fluffy ones.

Gah at your friend aethel. bf 'pushers' wreck my head! You've done great to get this far with so little sleep.

On top of vomiting I now have the other end. I feel awful, like I've been kicked around and for some reason my lower back is killing me. Husband has now started the bug too :( minim has not (yet) vommed today-fingers crossed!! She is v pale and unhappy, but hopefully will improve fast. Her nappy was completely dry this morning (she wouldn't take last 2 feeds yesterday) so was worried but then my husband said he'd changed her in the night, phew! I didn't even wake up. No nursery again today and no PhD work, we will all be in the bed together all day I suspect :(

Tyel, bloody hell, your family has had an awfully tough time since Pirran came along. Your poor husband. Hope he's on the mend. Does it last ages?

figgy, I hate leaving minim too.

to everyone else, thanks for the well wishes!

Rashkakeller · 15/06/2012 08:38

Aethel I b/f my dd until 12 months and she has had tons of coughs and colds (from nursery) so the 'never getting ill' thing is complete crap or luck!! I bet you were tempted to fake a tiredness faint while simultaneously head butting her in the noggin!

at all and sundry... I'm being grunted at so might go and wave a boob at ds. Will try and attempt a better post later!

AnAirOfHope · 15/06/2012 09:12

I hate the term Boob Nazi - its offencive Sad

I bf for two and half fucking YEARS and he still get ill all the time Grin
Bf dd and at 5 weeks she still ended up in hospital!

Yay we have the jumparoo out and Hope loves it and is playing with all the toys on it Smile

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 15/06/2012 12:04

Oh dear - there are some silly people out there!

Putting Sky back onto Cow & Gate 1 today , so will be seeing how that goes over next couple of days x

aethelfleda · 15/06/2012 12:46

Sorry for any offence air, I don't use the phrase commonly, I was just in need of sympathy rather than judgement. Friend is normally lovely, which was why I was surprised at the force of her response.

And for some unknown reason DS has decided to nap on the rug after taking less than 1/2 oz of fomula from his daily morning bottle-offering. So am Enjoying a quiet lunch.

BeeMyBaby · 15/06/2012 16:27

tyel well done on your ds clapping! dd1 didn't manage to clap till she was 9 months...

baking in the heat here, it was 42c one day last week and it's like living in an oven, dh reminded me that we are only about 60km from the Sahara. we are all drenched in sweat, ew. we are also being eaten alive by mosquitoes, dd2 has 11 bites in just one leg and anthisan says only from 2 years and up.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 15/06/2012 16:38

I have a stubborn little lady today. Not interested in food or her milk :( Gonna be a long night me thinks!

MissRee · 15/06/2012 17:12

Jack may have measles! How risky is it to Freya? They don't have MMR jab until 12 months, do they so she's not vaccinated? If DP goes to see him, does he risk bringing it back? DP has already had measles (and nearly died from it)!

aethelfleda · 15/06/2012 17:57

Ooh misree keep Freya well away from Jack until he's non contagious. If she has been exposed to him already while he's been unwell then you can get her an early MMR (it will need repeating later at the usual time): ring your GP and see if they can get her one asap.

MissRee · 15/06/2012 18:05

Last time they were together was Sunday but he had no symptoms then. His spots came out today.

She does have a rash on her face which came out yesterday but has normal temp and it doesn't seem to be bothering her. I had assumed it was teething/dribble rash and been putting sudocreme on it.

MissRee · 15/06/2012 18:07

Freya's rash.

Xiaoxiong · 15/06/2012 18:17

Thanks for the good wishes for DH. He's got a water borne parasite which causes hideous diarrhoea, poor lamb - likely from a swimming pool in Spain. He didn't help himself either by being such a total hypochondriac all these years so this time when he complained about cramps and having the runs I just rolled my eyes and sarcastically took his temperature...and then it was 39F and I felt pretty guilty. We've had calls every day from the Health Protection Agency to check on the quarantine etc, it's all been pretty exciting! I also like saying it - cryptosporidium. Sounds pretty cool. But he is very unhappy to be off work, and let's just say there is now a large pot of Sudocrem by the loo and we are washing hands hourly with chlorhexidine. He can't go back to work until 48 hours of normality so the uncertainty is really driving him up the wall.

It's true that we have both been more ill these past 6 months since DS was born than the whole of the last 6 years. I don't know if it's just sleep deprivation lowering our immune systems but I've been religiously taking exercise, pregnacare breastfeeding vitamins and drinking water and I've still got sick a lot, had my appendix explode, and lost about half my hair in the last month (there are actually bald patches Sad).

aethel major sympathy here, I can't believe anyone would say that to you. Anyone on this thread knows how much you are currently sacrificing when you lead the nightshift feeding your son and giving him your best, you're doing a great job and whatever you decide is the right decision for you and DS. It's crazy that at this age when our DSes are eating fluff off the carpet, raisins off the table in Costa, and sucking their toes that have been in all sorts of unsavoury places to be concerned about BF/FF. You don't want to be getting sick either and you need sleep to stay healthy and sane!!

Xiaoxiong · 15/06/2012 18:20

MissRee no advice on the rash. But I'd totally squidge those cheeks!!

For your distraction from measles worry, take a look at Pirran's knees.

MissRee · 15/06/2012 18:21

Squidgy pudge! So cute Grin

MissRee · 15/06/2012 19:07

It's not measles, he's just had an allergic reaction to something. Phew!

aethelfleda · 15/06/2012 19:40

Aawww, what lovely photos tyel and nice baby cheeks
misree. so glad it's not measles (a totally sucky illness for anyone to get). Was going to say that with measles the babies/kids have 48 hours of high temp, cough, grot and snot and then on
Day 3 a rash appears behind the ears and then- whumpf- spreads rapidly down the whole body. kids with measles look like crap (technical
term). And it's 90% infective if you spend 15 mins in a rolm
With someone with it....

Rashkakeller · 15/06/2012 20:04

MissRee phew! Bet you breathed a big sigh of relief! Freya is so cute and I really like the muslin with hearts on

Tyel your poor dp! My bum is clenching just thinking about it! I hope once you're past this, you all get a break. By the looks of Pirran's gorgeous chunkness, he's thriving! My boy is delightfully squidgy too, I love it :)

DSM hope your little lady settles for the night despite the not eating/drinking much - she must be having an off day!

Figgy hopefully you are enjoying the wedding and table wine! Talking of wine....

Bee 42 degrees? Blimey! Poor dd with her bites but those cheeky bleeders get everywhere. Other than wrapping her in clingfilm, don't know what else to suggest!

Northern hope you're having a good time up north, was it your dp who had the out of character drunken episode last time? If so, it's your turn this time!

Seven lovely that your ds enjoyed his birthday treat so much :)

Get well soon, Mopsy and co - other one who's gone through the wringer

Air it's good to have somewhere to put the lo's in, isn't it? Asa has started to enjoy his leapfrog learn and groove now.

Had a minor success on the feeding front today, ds actually ate something and seemed to like it! It was fruity porridge so will stick with that for a bit. He is 6 months today so the pressures on!

Right ho - footie on, wine here!
