dsm, I walked up the aisle to Shostakovich's 2nd piano concerto, 2nd mvt. Also had some Villa-Lobos and Wagner.

seven77 · 12/06/2012 11:15

oi Eva has cried every time I leave the room for around 3 weeks. With how much younger BOi is it would fit.

mopsy unless aethel has any answers I'd probably take her to the GP tbh.

scooby glad you've not got long to go.

dsm when does she have her last feed of the day, could it be worth trying giving her a feed before you go to bed? I love Van Morrison Someone Like You, it's the last song on Bridget Jones Diary if you want to hear more than the tiny bit you can hear on iTunes.

Question for honey or anyone else that can help. If I make a cake and use ready made icing without marzipan do I still use jam to make it stick to the cake?

We've got my favourite for dinner tonight, beef and carrots in Guinness. Today's plan is to make vanilla cupcakes to take to the zoo and a sponge cake to turn into the wings and nose of a space shuttle, I confess I did buy a Swiss roll got the main part of it though.

seven77 · 12/06/2012 11:16

First dance music that is.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 12/06/2012 11:34

Music is great keep them coming pls Smile

Also need ideas on what to put in the kiddy goodie bags pls.

seven77 · 12/06/2012 12:12

Little colouring pads, packs of crayons, mini books, little maze things etc. Asda and poundland are good places.

KateM77 · 12/06/2012 12:20

Scooby you're nearly there Grin. You've done so well coping that long on your own (as does LMF) hats off to you.

DSM I walked in to Here, There and Everywhere by The Beatles (lovely lyrics especially when the song has been chosen by a normally unromantic man ), we had Dance Me To The End of Love by Madeleine Peyroux whilst signing the register (there's a nice line that says: "dance me to the children who are waiting to be born" which still brings a tear to my eye even though we've now had the kids!) and walked out to Bryan Ferry Let's Stick Together! We didn't have a first dance - DH doesn't dance and I hate everyone looking at me. For the disco we had lots of cheesy pop tunes that me and my friends used to dance to at University.

OiMissus · 12/06/2012 12:29

I don't know how much this might cost, but at the wedding we went to a month or so ago, BOi got a bib with "Prince Alistair" embroidered on it, as well as a soft ball, a rubber duck and a little boat for the bath.

When I got married we gave out colouring pads and crayons, and we put the little champagne bottle - bubble blowy things on the tables. The bubbles kept the kids entertained for hours. And you need my dad, who from the top table wowed the kids with his magic tricks - turning the table crystals in to pennies, etc. (Not very sleight of hand but enough to wow the kiddiewinkies. :) )

all the kids that could feed themselves, we put on one table together in the middle of the room, directly in front of the top table. This meant that they were all very well -behaved - they had no one to show off to! and minor misdemeanors that would embarrass parents went unnoticed. The adults could relax and chat, and just throw a cursory glance over to check the kids were behaving. It worked better than we all hoped. It was great. Just an idea. :)

aethelfleda · 12/06/2012 12:42

Just to clarify the patented feeding plan is NOT what my current little darling is doing!! (it's what the DDs did from about 6 months). Every b*y 90 minutes overnight last night, he managed one three hour burst from 7.30-10.30 and from
Then on he fed 20-30 mins, settled and slept happily in the cot...and then woke and wailed to start the cycle again. All night. He seems to be teething again today but I am honestly knackered and he still won't take the bottles at all so I just can't face switching him to bottles. It feels like my BF supply is only enough for him if he feeds all night, and I can't dot that indefinitely. Aaaargh. I am totally Banbury.

(nearly there sc00by, hope he's home very soon for you)

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 12/06/2012 12:44

Well for my entrance I'm having 'you're my inspiration' by Chicago 17
For Signing the register we are having 'Always' by Bon Jovi
For exit - not sure - was thinking either the normal exit music or Take That Greatest Day
First Dance - 'Nothing's going to stop us now' by Jefferson Starship
Father - daughter Dance - not sure
Getting everyone else up was thinking 'I gotta feeling' by Black Eyed Peas.

Need music for when guests arrive and some more for register when photos are being taken etc.

aethelfleda · 12/06/2012 12:47

mopsy, reflux is present from birth, it wouldn't startt at 6 months, in fact solids are used to treat reflux (severely refluxy babies are sometimes told to wean early onto solids from as early as 3 months to help reduce their symptoms. i'm not sure what else it is, could be she's swallowing air when she eats and so is getting windy? Or is teething so it hurts to eat? If it continues there's no harm in a chat with your GP about it.

GeeandTee · 12/06/2012 14:23

mopsy DD has been very grumpy too recently and I can't figure out what's wrong. It started when I introduce solids but could just be conincidence? She will only take a teaspoon or so and I've just stuck to fruit, veg and gluten-free porridge so far even though she's 27 weeks now. She sometimes pulls away when feeding and screams which she has never done before. I think my most likely explanation is teething - I think the sucking motion when feeding can make the pain worse. She also has red cheeks but no temperature.

MissRee · 12/06/2012 15:31

Mopsy could it be ear trouble if she's crying on the bottle? Any temp at all?

mopsytop · 12/06/2012 16:53

Thanks everyone. No temp MissRee and she's grand except for on the bottle so don't think it can be earache. May be teething. Maybe 3-6 mth teats are a prob, might try 6+ mths. It's weird, it's only the past few days. Since I started giving her carrot which she doesn't seem to like. Maybe I'll leave the carrot for a while and see if things improve although I can't really imagine it being that ... Thanks for the info re: reflux aethel, was a bit worried!

AnAirOfHope · 12/06/2012 17:06

At the ceremony we had Spring from Vivaldi's 4 seasons. First dance was Bibbedy Bobbedy Boo (honestly) & the first dance at party back home was Thank You For Loving Me by Bon Jovi.

HoneyLovesCake · 12/06/2012 17:26

seven sorry if this is a bit late but on the rare occasions I've used fondant icing I've sandwiched layers of cake together with butter icing & covered the cake in a thin layer of it too to help the icing to stick. Just double-checked & it's what Debbie Brown (kids cake decorating genius) recommends too. Hope this helps :)

LittleMissFlustered · 12/06/2012 17:43

Seconding buttercream idea. It's epic glue and eating leftovers is more enjoyable than with jam;)

seven77 · 12/06/2012 17:48

Thanks, not too late I've made cakes but decorating tonight so DS doesn't see. I've already made buttercream, should have enough but it will have to be blue or purple! He loves the space shuttle, I can't wait to see his face!

AWomanCalledHorse · 12/06/2012 19:44

Has anyone heard from BJR recently?
We didn't have any music at wedding (we had a small wedding), we discussed using 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' by Metallica, but decided against it Grin

aethel, hope you have a better night tonight!
mopsy, DS used to get v.frustrated & scream when he couldn't get milk out of the too small teats, he's been on the 6month+ since he was 3 months.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 12/06/2012 21:01

I think but can't be 100% sure (tiredness setting in) I think Sky has only drunk 21oz of milk but had a little bit of porridge, wasn't to interested in lunch and had a good helping of rice pudding with apple & banana purée mixed in. so have a feeling we will be up in the night. poxy teeth and snuffly nose - my poor little lady.

thanks for music choices - giving us a lot to think about Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 12/06/2012 21:10

Hope the cake goes to plan seven :) I've got a 'white chocolate disaur (dont ask) with a big tail and triangle spikes!' on order from my four year old for his birthday. It's in August, so plenty of time to perfect white chocolate buttercream I hope.

OiMissus · 12/06/2012 21:10

Ali doesn't drink much at nursery. He fed from me at 5:30am, then had 15oz until 18:30 and 19:00 when he had a long bf. He's asleep now.
awch - BJR posted recently. She and DH were doing better and talking things thru. She sounded quite hopeful.
Just made a big pot of bolognese so DH won't starve or eat solely from McDonalds while I'm away.
Really really don't want to go.Sad

NorthernChinchilla · 12/06/2012 21:12

I deliberately didn't check in yesterday- I'd made it home without hearing the England score and was terrified someone on here might be discussing it, so didn't even look at the thread Grin

Weaning is progressing- I was delighted to find that Yeo Valley do their own version of Frubes, so we got a load of those. However, we'll spoon feed the yoghurt for the first few weeks until DS gets the hang of it a bit more. Carrot, toast, broccoli and various fruits are all blw so far!

I'd stick to your current set up figgy, your DS sounds fine: unless there's a problem, babies just take what they need, and if he's long then he's in proportion. It's not like you're force-feeding him or anything

6.30 is a lie in here too, but at the moment DP cops for 6/7....

No wedding music to suggest here DSM, sorry- we're not married and two of the last four I've been to have already ended in divorce, so really not the best to recommend Confused. One friend had a dream that I walked down the aisle in a powder-blue trouser suit to Salt N Peppa's 'Push It', which is a fave but can you imagine the vicar's face Grin!!

DS has also been a little bit more clingy Oi/ Seven- I don't know if it's because developmentally they start to understand permanence a bit more, and more 'know' who you are, and they don't want to be parted from you?

Blimey aethel, you must be knackered- can we put it down to the good ol' growth spurt? Really hope it's better tonight, can't be worse...

Got to pack as we're off up North tomorrow- will be meeting up with one of my oldest friends who'll be 39 +4... Told her I was secretly hoping her DD-to-be had come a little early so I could have imposed myself on her far too early gone round for a cuddle, but I'll have to wait til August now!

Figgygal · 12/06/2012 21:12

Well kit day went fine, lo went to soft play with the CM and I was home by time she dropped him off with dh. He's had 4 feeds, and 3 meals he eats whole first stage jars I don't think he ever only ate a teaspoon full!! Today is first day on the new regime will see how it affects him overnight.

HoneyLovesCake · 12/06/2012 21:51

Rocco's really suffering with teething too :( He sounds like he's drowning on the excessive saliva & he keeps blubbing in his sleep. I'm sure he's taken less milk today as I'm feeling quite lopsided. I couldn't settle him upstairs today so I put him on my back while I pottered about & he napped on & off. I expect we'll have another broken night.

seven post a pic of the cake when you're done, love kids cakes :)

LMF chocolate buttercream is a great choice for summer as it sets better than the regular sort but if the weathers hot make sure you do the dino lying on it's side not standing on it's feet iyswim. My mum made that mistake making a cake for a little boy in Malta one summer many years ago & the spikes slid off it's back. Weird that I remember that, must've been 20+ years ago!

NC Do the Yeo Valley frubes have sugar in them? Off to google :)

aethelfleda · 13/06/2012 00:30

Up every hour since 9 and he will not settle in cot for more than ten mins before wailing. I am beyond knackered.
