Morning Ladies.

Sky woke once at 3am Grin we are gradually getting to all night.

Never torn, been cut or had stitches with either birth so no help - can only suggest keep on top of painkillers and warm bath.

We def want DC3 only want a singleton baby tho - No multiples!

NorthernChinchilla · 02/06/2012 08:03

That did give me a grin Kitty... there's a baddie in a Terry Pratchet that munches on pigeons, and it made me think of that Grin.
By the way, fellow TP lovers, have you seen there's a new one to be released in September, and a co-written one on the way in the summer? Nice Mr Amazon told me so!

A lot of what you say resonates with me Oi... firstly the German stuff, as my step Mum is German (has lived here for 20 years but her job means she's across Europe all the time and of course is back there to see family). She's always said that for all its 'right-on' image, Germany, and and especially German business can be very sexist- there's still a massive presumption of hausfrau.

Now, you see, ^^^ that is as far as I got last night, owing to food issues. Off to catch up...

mopsytop · 02/06/2012 09:03

I had forceps and massive episiotomy, codeine is your friend! And big massive pillow-esque maternity pads. After about 2 weeks it was a lot better!

seven77 · 02/06/2012 09:20

Morning. Eva was up at 5.40 so we're slowly getting there, the extra 40 minutes makes a massive difference. DS is still poorly, his temp was 38.8 when he got up this morning. Eva is teething badly and still very clingy, it's going to be a bad day, thankfully I didn't have any plans for the jubilee weekend.

The chicken house (which was supposedly cancelled) arrived yesterday. It turns out they hadn't cancelled the order after DH told them too as they're clearly incompetent. DH is building it when he comes home from work tonight, I think he must have forgotten about the football :o

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

NorthernChinchilla · 02/06/2012 09:41

Am currently watching DS giving his squish toy hell Grin

I know how you feel with the bf Oi; I'm still giving DS over half his food via me, but it is difficult when you return to work. My suggestion would be to drop one of the work expresses first; I find it easier (in reality, time wise and psychologically) just to do one at work. I managed to drop six or so of DS feeds over two weeks, but that was needs must- if you can do it over longer then definitely do! And it needn't be all or nothing- I'm planning to drop the express and dream feed over the next month, but keep on with the 7am/7pm bfs for a while.
But good luck and well done!

That's an impressive bf total MsB, and hope you have fun camping.

And uber-wow to Mopsy! That's amazing, and your Mum coping with six under six Confused! I know in reality that multiples have all sorts of issues for mother and children, so really it would quite a worry, and that coping with even one that's unsettled or a bad sleeper is a killer, so singletons is safest.
Buuuuut, I still think I'd like twins, and we have several sets in our family Grin
By the way, my friend Andy was at Uni with a quin Shock!

Sounds tough MissRee, hope they sort it out sooner rather than later...

And ^ is as far as I got before going to the vets, aaaargh!

NorthernChinchilla · 02/06/2012 09:49

Glad to hear you sound so well hawthers, and sounds like F was a star. With the risk it very much depends on what the issue is- if it's a genetic illness that affects the child, each conception is an individual risk iyswim, so each conception has a 25% chance of the problems occurring- previous pregnancies don't have an effect.

I reckon with three years and some arm twisting you'll get your third.

Sorry crappy nights were had by many.

Took the chinchilla to the vets; have agreed that (as the problem he has can't be cured) that if he makes it through this op that when it re-occurs we'll have to have him put down Sad. Otherwise he'll just waste away which just isn't fair.
Great start to the bank hol weekend....,

hawthers · 02/06/2012 10:19

Poor chinchilla :(

Re no 3 there lies the problem. They don't know what causes it. The stats are just based on the reoccurence rates in the population. There could be lots of different causes included in that population so it doesn't really give much certainty over whether it will happen again.

seven77 · 02/06/2012 10:32

So sorry northern, is he very old?

aethelfleda · 02/06/2012 10:41

Yay to hawthers for a good night and a recharge! Hair looks fab by the way.

BeeMyBaby · 02/06/2012 12:01

Oi Hopefully slowly winding down with the BFing means you will remember all the lovely times but manage to narrowly miss the teeth

Thinking of giving up with the BLW as it feels impossible here with no highchair etc and DD2 is getting incredibly irrate at meal times, she is 'weaned' but still getting 100% nutrition from me and not sure how feasible this is as we are now past 6 months. Ended up trying to give her some yoghurt last night but most of it was still tongue thrust out in a giant mess. Pfffft.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 02/06/2012 16:44

Northern Sorry to hear about your chinchilla Sad

We had a lovely BBQ today just sitting down to football Grin

HoneyLovesCake · 02/06/2012 18:11

OHs first cake has not gone well, overcooked a bit & hasn't risen well; we're blaming the oven. He's being quite competitive though so is going to try again which means spare cake for us :)

Figgygal · 02/06/2012 18:18

Hi all

Been offline for a while since being at home last weekend, lo spent the 4/5 days being spoiled by everyone we even ended up on aberdeen beach in the sand HUGE novelty in aberdeen not to be swept out to sea or buried in sand with the weather !!

Unfortunately he has returned with a really bad throat/cough. He has his mattress propped up at night and we've had a couple of quite sleepless nights. Not sure how long we leave it before seeing dr/worry it's a chest infection.

He's got an inflatable ring that he sits in which is really strengthening him however he's still only rolling front to back - and does so the second he's put down so
not sure how he's supposed to get the intention to crawl. He also loves standing at the moment I hold his hands and he just girns at everyone.

I'll have a catch up attempt now that am being subjected to the England game Sad

Hope all is well!!

KateM77 · 02/06/2012 18:59

Home from holiday. Had a great week. We were really lucky with the weather, and the cottage was lovely. Looking forward to DS being back in his own room, and hoping the blackout blinds and lack of cockerel outside will mean only one night feed again tonight!

Mixed success with the bottles. He was increasing each day and was up to 4-5oz, but then went back to a big battle and only 1oz again the last couple of days. I'll keep trying and will start on solids tomorrow too.

Too much has happened over the last week for me to individually namecheck so I'll just give a general wave in all of your direction!

NorthernChinchilla · 02/06/2012 19:43

Our chin didn't wake up from the operation Sad...

So been a marvellous start to the BH, plus the fact we still had to pay the £100 for the op.

Off to have a little funeral in back garden.

He was only about 3 (anywhere from 10 to 20 years is normal) but once they get this issue with the teeth it is in effect fatal. Still, at least the second half of his life was far better than with the bloke we rescued him from.

AnAirOfHope · 02/06/2012 19:48

:( Sorry about your chin ((((((hugs))))))

hawthers · 02/06/2012 19:59

Nooo poor chin hope you give him a good send off

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 02/06/2012 20:12

Sorry about your chin Northern Sad

Rashkakeller · 02/06/2012 20:19

Sorry Northern, losing a pet is so sad xx

YBR · 02/06/2012 20:36

Not made it onto MN for some days. I think that now I'm back at work full time I'll be drifting away as RL gets in the way! Anyway, I'm a bit behind but ...

Kitty you might see me go past on 2nd July, apparently the band I play in is going to be part of the torch cavalcade (details are still rather sketchy). I'm not sure I'll be there all day because theoretically DH and I both play in the band but we've no plan yet for getting LO looked after.

Sympathy to those whose DCs are doing growth spurts. The last 2 (or is it 3?) nights, BabyYBR has been demanding a 3-4am feed which I thought she'd dropped a couple of weeks ago. It seems much more exhausting now I am beginning to get accustomed to sleep again!

MissRee: my GP took me off anti-histamines during my first pregnancy so since then I take a nasal spray (for rhinitus) instead. Fine for pregnancy and BF. IIRC it's not that the antihistamines I was on were bad, just that they were not proven to be OK.

Northern: sorry to hear about your Chinchilla.

Oi: I had forceps delivery, episiotomy and stitches. I advise: Take the pain killers they offer (I had codine, diclofenac and paracetamol at different times), figure out the most comfortable way of going to the loo however mad/ridiculous it is. Make sure that a nurse/midwife/somebody keeps an eye on the stitches. Mine all unraveled but it wasn't until a week later that they noticed by which point I had a gaping infected wound. I'm sure that if it starts healing well, it'll be right in no time.

I, on the other hand am still not right over 6 months later. I managed to see a Gyne consultant on Tuesday (appt offered originally was July 2nd but when I phoned to move it this slot was available). She says that I've got plenty of excess scar tissue inside and recommends it's cut away. Although the waiting list is normally 8 weeks they've got a slot in 3 weeks time so I grabbed it. I want to be able to sit without discomfort, and hopefully it will clear up the constant discharge too (I have to wear STs all the time). Sorry TMI.

I'm a twin, and my parents do keep saying how much hard work it was. We were prem and in incubators initially; I guess multiples are prone to various conditions because they're usually prem. My mum had severe morning sickness all the way through the pregnancy 'till half an hour after we were born and had to spend some weeks in hospital because of it. I doubt it'd be the joy that twins are imagined to be, esp when they're little. Plus you have to have two of everything at once rather than re-using stuff with younger siblings. When growing up there was more competition and fighting with us than co-operation, still goes that way if we're together for more than a few daysShock.

NorthernChinchilla · 02/06/2012 21:25

Gosh, a twin and a triplet on the thread!

Thanks all; although in work life I have to be pretty tough, in reality I'm a big softie who always insists on buying the dented cans in the supermarket as no-one else will want them Blush. So this always makes me feel rather sad. But he's buried under some lovely-smelling stocks.

On happier news....

There's a great inde second hand kids' clothes/play/everything store where we live, and we splashed out and bought DS a bumbo and a very thin gro-bag for when it's hot. Bumbo is great, but when wearing anything on his legs, his chunky thighs barely fit in it Shock! But it seems so weird to see my little baby sitting up in a chair!

That's really tough hawthers, I'm sorry. At least if it's a random thing then the risk should be at 25% for each pregnancy, but it must be a tough decision and I can understand why others in your family may be against it at the mo. Hope you work something out over time.

I hope you and the family are feeling a bit better aethel after the dosing and what it brings on (if I remember the medication correctly from 20 years ago, it may be a bit better now?)

I'm sure with you on hand to help out HLC, he'll make a success of it, and hopefully it will give him an insight into your hard work with the baking, and confirm that cakes don't appear by fairy magic Wink

Welcome back figgy! How did the flights go? Tbh, if it sounds bad I'd take your DS down to the doctor's, although it'll be a pita over this weekend.

Sorry to hear that it's all still giving you problems YBR, and glad you got that appointment.

Got DP's birthday bottle of wine to have two weeks late with dinner, so looking forward to that. The weekend can only get better...

OiMissus · 02/06/2012 21:52

Sorry about the chinchilla northern. Sad
Well done on the name check, you're v good at that. On my phone I fail miserably without a pen and paper.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
Thank you all for the advice. She was on ibuprofen and paracetamol, so I sent out my best friend to get the codeine.
Thanks also for the bf support.
We're having a nice weekend. My cousin and her family are up for the weekend, so they came to us for breakfast, then we visited a great park (butterfly world, animals, then adult things in the big playground.Grin
Then it rained so we had a BBQ under umbrellas. And then sang 4 million rounds of Old MacDonald, with knitted animal finger puppets, to entertain the 7 year old. :)
Now home and I can have a wine at last. :)

MissRee · 02/06/2012 22:06
