Jeez, I am so sorry for that mental image Kate (it was in fact worse, as I was naked bar marigolds and a grimace...), I can only apologise!! Sounds like we have matching days- I've done the bathroom and shower now, and will do the cake later- actually rather looking forward to it.

We're going out for a cream tea for lunch for DP's early birthday sort of thing.

You must've jumped out of your skin figgy, how irritating. My friends had the same number as a taxi firm bar one digit, but it was a repeated one (so the taxi was something like 72012, and their number was 72102) so they were forever getting calls from drunk people in the middle of the night.

Get well soon Oi, won't suggest a hair of the dog then...? Wink

That is such a PITA MissRee, and normally round our way in mid May you'd be fine for the heating at least, but it's so cold at the moment you and Freya will probably need it, never mind all the cooking, etc.

Need to go and get dressed now, probably a good idea before we venture out into town...

NorthernChinchilla · 19/05/2012 11:46

Oh yes, sorry, do have a lovely anniversary figgy!

MissRee · 19/05/2012 11:53

I'm just glad we still have the oil filled electric radiators in the loft from before we had central heating. One for our room and one for Jack's room is all we need I think. I had thought that we were past showering at other people's houses now that the bathroom is finished but it seems not...

LittleMissFlustered · 19/05/2012 12:12

and where needed...

Does anyone fancy coming and helping me murder the chavvy drunks in the library? They're being loud and nasty and I feel I may need help taking all three of them out...

Seriously, two of them are wearing 'burberry' baseball caps. My town must be the only one left where the idiots think people are going to fall for it.

Figgy Have a great anniversary.

Kate sorry to give you a baaad image of bathroom & kitchen cleaning Grin

Northern How's the extreme cake baking going?

LMF Sounds gross tbh. I'd walkout!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/05/2012 13:34

MissRee That is pants. Hopefully something will be sorted for you.

MissRee · 19/05/2012 13:35

Good grief, the boychild is "having a dumpertruck" as he so politely puts it and he bloody stinks!!! I might need to escape out the front door before my nostril hairs get singed any more Hmm

We were right in the middle of reading George's Marvellous Medicine (him reading, me helping) as he has already read this week's homework reading so had no homework. He doesn't get out of it that easily with me though Grin

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/05/2012 14:50

MissRee That is mine & Darcie's fab book - George's Marvellous Medicine Grin

Just nipped into Asda and DP brought me a lovely maxi dress and Darcie some lovely tops & new tankini. As well as food & nappys. Home to chill for rest of afternoon until football tonight Grin

hawthers · 19/05/2012 15:05

Gah potty training not going well. How long to persevere until we give up?

MissRee · 19/05/2012 15:38

We've got the entire Roald Dahl collection for Jack and he's just at the stage now where he can (mostly) read it himself with a little help. He's very excited about this (although got tired after reading 3 pages Grin I've made him a special book for his home reading that we've covered in wrapping paper to make it pretty and we are writing little reports in there to say how well he's doing/which words he struggled with. It's gone into his school bag so he can show his teacher and he's so proud of it, bless him!

MissRee · 19/05/2012 15:44

Oh and it looks like the gas is off until Tuesday or Wednesday at least Sad They have supplied us with a two ring electric camping stove and a fan heater! Jack is excited now because he thinks we're going camping Hmm

seven77 · 19/05/2012 16:01

missree what a pain about the gas, I did laugh at big fat hairy ballbags though :o

aethel glad DS coped ok last night.

I feel like crap today, runny nose, sore throat and DD had me up at 4:45 this morning.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/05/2012 16:30

MissRee That's what Darcie has got the entire collection. Along with The complete collection of Secret Seven, Winnie the Pooh, Beatrix Potter & Hans Christian Anderson Grin Lovely idea about the home reading book. We already have a reading diary given to us by the school which we have to complete. What a pita about the gas being off, nice they have given you a camping stove tho!

Seven Sympathies as you have caught feeling like a badgers' arse!

I have found a bridesmaid dress for Darcie & Sky. However, I'm going to look around a bit more to see if there are anymore I like before I buy the ones I found today.

Football tonight. I'm armed with B&J's Core Karmel Sutra & Phish food so we are good to go Grin

MissRee · 19/05/2012 16:36

He does have a book that the school provide but I figured that as this is extra reading, I'd do a separate one for him so we don't fill it up with our little reading sessions.

I want to get him some more boxsets but I'm not really sure what would be good for boys. I thought Beatrice Potter might be too "Girly" for him iykwim? Secret Seven could be good though.

MissRee · 19/05/2012 16:37

seven, I read your post as "what a pain in the gas" Grin made me chuckle!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/05/2012 16:43

You could try Famous Five, Horrible Histories etc. I want to get Horrible Histories for Darcie in the summer.

NorthernChinchilla · 19/05/2012 17:14

Extreme baking is part way there, just had to free DS's leg from the cot though. He'd got the opposite leg stuck, iyswim, and was really crying Sad. He's not really cried much so on the rare occasions he produces an actual tear it makes me feel dreadful!

Will wait til he's being fed by DP to do the next bit though so I'm uninterrupted.

Had a lovely day in town, with our cream tea, and bought geraniums, a cake tin, a bottle of wine and steak and veg for tomorrow night. Actually vaguely pleasant weather too, what's that all about Confused?!

seven77 · 19/05/2012 17:21

missree how old is he? We've got the complete Thomas collection (one huge book rather than the individual ones) and I love it. We use it for bedtime stories but would also be good for reading himself if he's not too old for Thomas.

MissRee · 19/05/2012 17:28

He'll be 7 in September so a bit big for Thomas I think Grin

seven77 · 19/05/2012 17:55

Sorry, no offence meant! Blush

MissRee · 19/05/2012 17:57

I can't wait til freya's a bit older so I can get her the "My Naughty Little Sister" collection! I loved them as a child although my (big) sister always thought they were about me Grin

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/05/2012 18:10

MissRee I don't remember those books. I'll be getting Darcie Michael Morpegho (sp?) books - the writer of The War Horse. Would those books be any good?

aethelfleda · 19/05/2012 18:10

DD1 is seven and likes a bit of Thomas...the books were originally written for 6-7 year olds as they include lots of bits of technical train info like how the boilers go and how many funnels each engine has. When they have been reissued and abridged for younger children a lot of the details have been lost and it's more of "peep peep! Said Thomas, whoosh! Said the elephant". So an older fashioned version would provably be fine (they have more grown-up illustrations too). But agree that nowadays Thomas is percieved as for smaller children.

It might be worth checking with school as sometimes they like any home reading to go in there: DD1 was crawling at a snails pace through her "official reading" and then doing four chapters of Enid Blyton at night... As it's meant to be self-picked reading school agreed we should write in wht she was actually doing.

Ooh yes, lived my naughty little sister! There was one about a hoover I seem to recall....

aethelfleda · 19/05/2012 18:14

Oh yes, if you want modern series types the Book People did a boxset of "Beast Quest": its the equivalent of Rainbow Magic books for boys. Another good one is Jeremy Strong books: he does a Pirate School series that is very funny and boyish.
