Another spot freak here. DP hates it when I pick his cos he's a wuss Grin

CherryBlossom27 · 13/05/2012 20:18

Hi all, haven't posted for ages as my mum has been visiting for the week! DS is going to miss his nanny like crazy :( she's been making him laugh non-stop and keeping him very well entertained! I'm going to miss her too :(

Not much new, except DS has been "razzing" and making all sorts of strange noises of appreciation especially with his purées!

Only 4 more weeks and he will be 24 weeks so we can 'officially' feed him and boot him out of our room into his own....can't wait! I'm sure we will all sleep better for it!

LittleMissFlustered · 13/05/2012 20:18

Oi it's so hard to leave their spots isn't it? In 9 years I've only messed with one, and that was a couple of weeks ago when she had a really painful one on her collarbone area. I sterilised a pin and put a hole in it to let it drain a little. I wanted to squeeze it but refrained :o

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 13/05/2012 21:07

Ewww spot squeezing Confused

Darcie has been a right cow bag for bed but hoping she's asleep now. Sky has gone down like a good girl Smile

Bed, film & sleep for me now....

aethelfleda · 13/05/2012 21:31

Getting a Bag of grown-out clothes together for DS's second cousin who's six weeks old (awww) and we are visiting tomorrow. DS is chewing everything like crazy and seems to really like muslins: great comfort toy, cheap, washable and we've got about twenty!!! Last night was a little better in terms of sleep so here's hoping.

Thanks for the though I think DH has a tricky job, he'd like to be more involved with feeding, it's frustrating for him that DS won't entertain anything bottley. Still likes his water in sippy cup though!
My next cunning plan (oh yes) is to try breastmilk in a doidy cup which will be a right PITA compared to a bottle but might work..... Hope you have better luck than me Kate.....

NorthernChinchilla · 13/05/2012 21:33

I joined that quiche too aethel, I love doing it! Can't bring myself to do DP's, I just instruct him to go and sort them out... but I do piggle at little bumpy bits and get eye gunk. As I have already outed myself as enjoying the gentle removal of DS's ear wax, I don't think there's any hope for me...

Folks, may I present you with the mother of all mememe posts Grin!

The weekend was crap. We were doing our 'every six weeks or so pack up and go 300 miles up North to visit all the family' thing. To list all the crapness (apologies for length, but this will make me feel better) thus:

  • DP didn't get everything packed up (although found time to speak to mates and family on the phone, go on the computer, etc) during the day on Wednesday, so not only was it very annoying it meant we were late getting off. Which meant, as I had the child the following day, I did a full day at work, 5 hour journey, and then four hours sleep, so felt like crap.
  • The kitchen roof started leaking: it was done at the same time as the extension from hell, and so we had to get the builders and roofers back to sort it out.
  • Friend one that came to visit has depressive episodes and was in one; friend two was driving so couldn't stay for a glass and just had a coffee and left.
  • We had a plan that DP would meet a friend for drinks Friday afternoon (early birthday thing), come home, and after I'd put DS down he'd stay at home whilst I took my Mum out for a drink (as Mum is v disabled, I'm 300 miles away and now have a baby, this is a rare event). Owing to missed trains, he stayed drinking longer, and got SOOOOO drunk Angry. The drunkest I've seen him in years. He came back to my Mum's very late, and passed out on the sofa. To be fair, he's a very happy drunk, and it's unlike him, but it screwed the evening, including the dinner I'd cooked for everyone.
  • At the same time as the above, my Mum had got slightly squiffy and cba to go outside for a fag, so had one in the kitchen, with the back door open, which meant the entire ground floor filled with fag smoke as I was trying to put DS to bed.
  • At the same time as the above again, my friend that I was going to a party with texted to say that instead of going with me, she was going earlier with her sister, and I'd have to make my own way.
  • To make DP's drunken antics worse, we were meant to be attending his sister's 40th the next day, and getting up early to spend the day with his family. He'd had far too much alcohol to go anywhere near a car even on the following day, so we didn't see his family til the afternoon, when one of them came to pick us up Blush.
  • The friend's party I went to one the same day (his 30th) was awful. He's suddenly got massively middle aged, there was a buffet(!!) with god-awful rubbery quiche and cocktail sausages, etc, and he talked to me about building regulations. I spent 3 hours there, £6 on a round, and £20 on the taxi home.
  • The football was ace, but NOT if you're a red and your other half is a blue. He's doing well to contain his smugness.

The week can only get better Confused

aethelfleda · 13/05/2012 21:51

Brew for northern, with a shot of something stiff in it!

Not quite sure what you mean about me and quiche, i suspect the auto-correct may have gremlinised your post?

Anyway onward and upwards ladies, our little ones have made it thus far and we're all still standing (just about!)

MimsyBorogroves · 13/05/2012 22:09

Oi are you me? I'm a "surgeon" too!

We don't have any words here, but he can, as of today, roar like a lion.

MissRee · 13/05/2012 22:10

Sounds like DP needs a good stinky Northern! have you got the roof sorted now?

NorthernChinchilla · 13/05/2012 22:17

Oh yeah, and got back to find a local cat had dug out one of my new clematis and used the pot as a litter tray...

Sorry aethel, that should've been to LMF ref the quiche!

The roof is no longer leaking ta MissRee - 'twas a great big crack, usefully directly above the sink..

Off to bed now, will join in more cheerfully tomorrow. Here's hoping you all get some decent sleep Smile

Rashkakeller · 13/05/2012 22:52

Goodness me, Northern, well done for surviving that! Sounds hideous but things can only get better! Haddock needed for your dp, a happy drunk is a drunk nonetheless and the man has responsibilities! And an even bigger haddock for the friend who let you down on a lift to the rubbish party. I'm sure your next trip up north will be better, not least because dp won't dare put a foot wrong ;)

LittleMissFlustered · 14/05/2012 01:08

for the male chinchilla He needs to be on best behaviour now, I've seen what an irate female chinch can do when provoked >_< I'm sure your next trip will be fabulous, and you have nicely worked out who's worth spending time with:o

Tired! Been a long weekend, going to try for a relaxed Monday.

OP posts:
DeterminedandSpecialMum · 14/05/2012 06:47

Northern you def need a break after that weekend I think.

SATS week at school and I hope my bean does well and doesn't get to stressed & worried over them.

Must tackle the rest of my ironing today Sad and then relax as tomorrow will be busy.

mopsytop · 14/05/2012 07:29

Hi all! Been working a lot this w/e so not many posts. Sorry to gear about broken arm :( and other trips to A&E.

Hope apart from that good weekends were had by all, and here's to a good week of lovely sleeps-I haven't felt this tired since minimopsy was tiny... A week of her waking every half hr (or more often) & I was tired but coping ok, then I got one really good night and suddenly feel exhausted. Weird, no?

MissRee, how insensitive of your friend. We all have to do what's right for our family and circumstances. Unfortunately mortgages don't pay themselves, but even financial issues aside, there are loads of other reasons why one might go back to work. I think I was the first on the thread to put their baba in nursery? She was 3 months and s bit. Its only two days a week and I'm not denying that it's been very hard to leave her and I've had the terrible guilts but she is absolutely fine, happy out being left at nursery and it's lovely going to pick her up and I so enjoy my other days with her. And I don't even technically HAVE to go back but the sooner I get this PhD finished, the sooner I can get a job and earn again. Anyway sorry bit waffly - what I mean is, ignore insensitive friend, Freya will be fine because she's loved and secure and nursery is good for them, loads of interaction and new experiences.

mopsytop · 14/05/2012 08:02

Sorry meant to post that last night bur Internet was down so it only got posted now. Northern, sorry to hear about your crap w/e. DSM hope sats don't stress out darcies, we never got examined at primary, I think they still don't in Ireland. I don't think it's a good idea to make learning results based so young.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 14/05/2012 08:07

Mopsy Thanks. She doesn't seem worried by them at the mo, might be different by end of the day tho.

OiMissus · 14/05/2012 08:20

Northern next time you come up North, get your DP to do all the running around and visiting folk whilst you come and have a glass or seven with me. I'll get some quiche to room temperature in readiness. Wink
Cocktail sausages!? Do you remember the cocktail sausages we had when we were young, the smooth hot dog type ones? Were they those? Or were they at least the real sausage chipolata variety? And were they on a cocktail stick with a tiny pickle, stuck in a foil wrapped potato?
If so, I want one!
mimsy and the baby who roars! Fantastic! I am rather jealous, I bet it's great fun. Grin I shall endeavour to get BOi growling at the hand-puppet tiger. We've called him Tarquin.
So I dropped BOi off this morning at the SIL's, I was running slightly late, and as I was saying goodbye I got a whiff of the not to be mistaken sweet smell of nappy. So I apologised and ran.

OiMissus · 14/05/2012 08:24

I remember exams at primary school. (back in the day - 1983? ) But I don't ever remember being told in advance. It was a case of, "right class, this morning we're doing an exam, follow me to the hall." I can't imagine we really knew what it meant, and so it was probably a bit exciting to sit at single desks with a nice sharp pencil, and do something different.
Ignorance is indeed bliss.

LittleMissFlustered · 14/05/2012 08:53

I detest SATS and depending on how it goes with school applications next year I'm seriously considering removing the girlspawn from school for them. They're pointless

I have a coffee.

Plan for the day:

Go buy plastic pots to distribute Herman in.
Go to knit group.
Post a Moshi monster.
Buy something to make for dinner. It's looking like toad in the hole weather:o

Have a good day folks:)

LittleMissFlustered · 14/05/2012 08:56

We did end of year tests at primary school. Senior school too. I'm old also:o

OP posts:
LittleMissFlustered · 14/05/2012 08:58

Bloody phone!

What I don't approve of is a bunch of tests that are pointless or the school and are there purely so the government can have yet anothe bunch of league-table based sticks to bet schools up with.

Right, my sausage sandwich is ready so I'm escaping before I blow an artery >_

mopsy I first read your post as 'a week of her walking', nearly fell off my chair!

aethel glad your DD is ok, seems A&E is fashionable at the moment!

northern I think you get the award for the amount of crapness (is that actually a word, autocorrect didn't say anything!) you can fit in one weekend! I agree he'll definitely be on best behaviour next time.

LMF what are you knitting? I'm glad I'm not the only one with those views on SATS. Thankfully with HE my views are irrelevant.

Friend and her son coming round to see DS later, hopefully I can persuade DS to change out of his pyjama bottoms before then as they constantly fall down. Other plans are to make an appointment for DS at Addenbrookes for their MD clinic, phone physio and put the slow cooker on.

LittleMissFlustered · 14/05/2012 09:08

I'm actually crocheting today. Trying to finish off a blanket. After that I plan to knit the octopus a cardi:o

I hve now stopped growling and plan to have a relatively peaceful day. There may even be a nap involved...

msbuggywinkle · 14/05/2012 09:39

Morning! I am channeling DSM this morning, have done loooooads of housework.

northern that does sound crappy. Get Mr Chinchilla to do the next one dry?

lmf I was in the first year of school that did all of the SATS, they do seem to be quite pressured now. Lots of our schooled friends don't do them.

Had a brilliant weekend, we spent the Saturday at the Wildflower centre and Sunday in the garden planting lots and having a BBQ.

Plans for the week here -

Monday - garden
Tuesday - home ed group, then round to a friend's house
Wednesday - nothing!
Thursday - library for story time, then swings
Friday - light night www.lightnightliverpool.co.uk/

6 wks today and im back at work Sad
Hoping lo sorts out his sleep by then he went to bed at 7.30 as hadnt slept since 3 then woke at 2 drained a 210ml, slept to 5.30 drained a 150ml fell asleep on bottle twice until i put him back in bed at which point he wasnt having any of it and woke up. decided to take him into the spare room, got into the single bed with him he fell asleep on the bottle again so we just stayed there until he woke at 7 and then wanted more food by 7.30. I dont trust myself or dh cosleeping with him usually but it was fine in single bed......quite nice actually.

I am going to have to increase his food from tastes to proper meals as he is genuinely hungry at night/in morning.

Today we have babygroup this afternoon that may be the extent of it actually feeling tired today.

I have also discovered 2 new amazing foodstuffs this week.....golden syrup weetabix and ltd ed banoffee activias. Why are all the best foods ltd ed i still pining for the chocolate mullerlights and champagne flavoured magnums from a few years back.
