Sorry guys - posted the 1000th message without realising Blush, so hopefully you can all find this thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ipswichwitch · 15/05/2012 16:31

Yeah jnice he gets about 5 mins into his meal then the shouting starts. Sure the neighbours think I'm poking him with pointy sticks or summat!! Tried bf him just before solids but wasn't interested, and found that he eats best when he has bf about an hour before - some serious trial and error goin on here!

Jnice · 15/05/2012 17:05

Ugh, I tried toast fingers with cream cheese and cucumber sticks for breakfast and he gummed the cuke for about a minute and then started crying. I think we are going to have a break for a few days.

ipswichwitch · 15/05/2012 18:28

Bless him :(
N just had great time sucking a bread stick n some apple n pear slices before throwing them all on the floor then crying cos they were all on the floor Hmm

CheshireDing · 15/05/2012 19:01

Ipswich we had a very noisy day yesterday and I couldn't tell whether it was because of teeth or lack of poo, we had lots of gas but nothing more! P had curry for dinner and when it came to bathtime DH said it was the worst nappy he had ever seen Grin

Pink What was the tip? I have ordered 2 attachment parenting books but let us know how you get on with that one as I might get that too.

The rain here is crazy! It was lovely yesterday.

pinkpainter · 15/05/2012 20:12

I still haven't got round to ordering the book but the tip was to look out for signs that your baby is tired (eye rubbing/yawning) and establish a naptime routine. I got the room all dark, put her bear suit on (she always sleeps in that - nice and snuggly), told her that it was sleep time and cuddled her for a bit in the room, put her down and stroked her and then left her after a few minutes. Apparently they get confused and upset if they are expected to go from playing to sleeping straight away, and if they go down to sleep calmly they are more likely to wake up calm.

I do need the actual book though - she only napped for a total of 2 hours today (in 3 naps) between 6:30am and 7pm - and was awake every 2 hours last night and each feed taking an hour.

I have started giving M more puree after initially doing loads of BLW stuff. Today she had lots of finger food for each meal but also yoghurt (breakfast), sweet potato puree (lunch) and pear puree with baby rice (dinner). She squeals with delight whn she sees the red spoon that I use to feed her and pulls it into her mouth, so she is controlling how much she takes and when - I guess this is sort of baby led!

Good idea about cream cheese on toast. I feel like I'm running out of finger food ideas already - what does everyone else do?

BB3 · 15/05/2012 22:51

Just did massive catch up and post then lost it to the curse of the iPhone. This will be rubbish in comparison.

Penguin, hope your dbro gets the support he needs and manages to get through this difficult time

Sassy, sorry about your sil, I hope the next round of treatment works. Hope kids pick up soon.

Ipswich, try not to stress it'll work it out in the end, n will give in eventually Wink

Fuzz, hope you had an amazing time.

Mama, this is a topic dear to my heart (after the appalling treatment of my ds at his first nursery trying to label a 2 year old Angry) and I represent a childrens charity that has a lot to do with autism and sen children. The diagnoses will sting you like a bea for a while but it will give you access to additional support ds may flourish with. I cant tell you how hards its been to get ds support without diagnosing him (of course now they've realised it's his hearing it's a different story). The label Is a worry for most parents (and was the primary reason I refused to allow ds to be tested) but You don't have to tell anyone apart from a few key people at nursery or school if you don't want - it's no one else's business. I know lots of autistic children who, with help, go on to succeed without any real adverse impact on them. How many markers did ds have if you don't mind sharing? I have 12 of the 22 key markers so if I was a child I'd be diagnosed as autistic (dh prefers the adult version 'control freak') - and I think I've got a pretty good life (career wise and personally). Sending hugs and hoping this is a positive step forward for ds xx

Sorry sorry sorry to all I've missed, my original post was much better I'm sure!

LittlePebble · 16/05/2012 09:49

We have two top teeth! Just cutting through the gum, hope this means two weeks of waking throughout the night might end [hopeful emoticon]

FuzzzyDuck · 16/05/2012 13:04

hi all, finally got the laptop out to update properly. had a great time in canada but its been hard trying to get S back into 'normal' routine. the 5 hour time difference has really messed her up! she was great with it going but i did read on google its worse going from west to east. i know it is for adults but i guess we are better at dealing with it. we landed at 10.30am on sunday (after a 7 hour flight through night) and tried to keep a normal day. she had slept about 5 hours on the plane which was great so hoped it wouldnt be to bad. the first night back she was in bed by 8pm, asleep for an hour then was awake screaming till 2am. i in the end took her into spare room and slept on sofa bed with her. she woke at 6.30am and i was thinking it was perfect, normal day again. but she was just all over the place!! last few nights she isnt going down till after 10am but is very unsettled for a few hours. she didnt wake today till 9.30am so im only allowing her 1 afternoon nap today and hoping to spend all day outside in the day light in an attempt to try get her body clock back to our time. ahhh!!! apart from all this, she was fantastic on the plane. flight going was half empty so me and S had 3 seats and my mum and gran had 3 seats. i had taken a few blankets and toys so she was quite happy to sit on the seat playing and so wasnt sittin on me the whole time. coming back was the same. plane more full but there was a row of 3 that was empty so after we took off, the air steward blocked it off and allowed us to move. we didnt depart till 11pm so she had had an hours nap in the airport so when we got on plane, she had a bottle of milk then i put her down to lay across seats and that was her!

so yeah, everything her going well. she is now sitting up great and still really trying to crawl. gets around by rolling which is so funny. have cut out her mid morning bottle and im finding she is eating better. had to give her a lot of jars while away as we werent eating dinner till after she was asleep and lunch was all over so was giving jar for dinner. she has got lazy with her chewing now so back to working on that. forget who said about food ideas, im the same! racking my brains thinking of things! yesterday for dinner, i got a wrap, but some tomato puree and cheese on then folded in half and put in a frying pan over heat to toast and melt the cheese. cut up into fingers and she scoffed the lot! a new thing to add to the list. i guess you could add so much to it, i just went for quickness.

hope everyone else is good. my mums just taken S for a few hours so i can get unpacked yes case is still laying in the hall unzipped properly. im back to work in just under 4 weeks so im trying to get house organized. its such a thought!!!

FuzzzyDuck · 16/05/2012 13:05

oh and ment to add, still no teeth here!!!! i think her bottom one looks like it might be on the way but i could be wrong. she is chewing on everything but thats it!

MrsHende · 16/05/2012 13:19

Welcome back Fuzzzy and S!

Quick question - we've been on solids for about 3 weeks now. L was six months last week. I'm giving her 3 'meals' a day, porridge in the morning, purée and toast at lunchtime and purée/soup, toast and a yoghurt at dinner time. Are you all doing three meals a day? I just got a bit stressed today that I'm rushing her, don't want to overfeed her! DH is a bit worried to, he has always been quite big and blames his mum's ferocious overfeeding! (I've never left my MIL's feeling hungry Smile)

MrsHende · 16/05/2012 13:20

Argh! too, not to

PenguinArmy · 16/05/2012 13:27

DS's naps yesterday totalled 1 hr 15 mins and then he woke every 30 mins in the night Shock

MamaMaiasaura · 16/05/2012 14:07

Just wanted to thank everyone for their posts re ds2. Still reeling and double guessing. Have only told my parents, ILs, 2 friends and 1 sister in RL tho I'm guessing mil has already spread it to all and sundry Angry. Got dla forms and no idea where to start. Waiting on paper report, so no idea on number of markers bb3 altho dh definately has traits (as do I). Haven't slept well at all of late and finding it hard to focus on much other than dc. Didn't want you to think I'm being rude.

Engelsmeisje · 16/05/2012 14:59

Every 30 mins PA?! Shock You must be exhausted.

MrsH M has 3 meals per day; porridge for breakfast, one slice of bread for lunch with peanut butter/cheese spread/just butter, and some lumpy puree in the eve. Plus he has fruit pieces mid morning, and milk mid afternoon and before bed.

We've built the porridge up slowly - he was having half a bottle of milk with porridge and the other half just to drink, but have increased to the whole bottle mixed as porridge now. Same with the bread, he started with just a few pieces 6 weeks ago (and had to learn how to get rid of the bread that got stuck to the roof of his mouth!) and now he scoffs a whole slice, crusts included. Dinner wise, we are starting on lumpier stiff now, sometimes just mashing, but meat still needs to be pretty blitzed and his nappies smell foul .

M was 7 months yesterday, but looking at his food diary (I know, I'm very sad!) at 6 months he was on...

Breakfast: 100ml milk mixed with porridge plus 100ml milk out of bottle
Mid morning:fruit puree
Lunch: half a slice of bread with some kind of spread plus 200ml milk
Afternoon: 200ml milk
Dinner: pureed veg with some meat (probably about 120ml)
Before bed: 200ml

I don't think you should worry too much about rushing her. Just make sure she's getting enough fluid if you've dropped milk feeds. I offer M very weak squash or tea with his solid meals

Scheherezade · 16/05/2012 15:42

Another one struggling with finger food ideas so will watch with interest. We do bread and butter, cheese, broccoli and oranges (skin/pith peeled). I have to go to a children's centre 4-5 so will take his dinner with me, I guess he'll have to have the puree cold? Not sure what to do as otherwise it'll be too late to feed him when we get back.

fuzzzy did you just stop the morning bottle completely one day? C is still on 4x bottles a day and I've been thinking of reducing them, but scared to make the jump!

I'm trying to just mash, C great with lumps, but the purees are so convenient (I cook big batches and freeze into cubes, put the cubes in freezer bags and fill up the freezer!).

sassy34264 · 16/05/2012 16:41

welcome back fuzzy good luck with getting s back into a routine.

mamma im sure everyone understands how much you are reeling, so no need to post when you're not up to it. we wont think you're rude. x

mrsh eva is on 3 meals a day too. at the beginning of starting 3 meals a day, i was giving her a yogurt and 8oz milk for breakfast, lunch was a fruit or veg puree and 8oz milk and dinner was breakfast cereal 8oz milk. ive slowly got her into the right way around now iyswim. she has the cereal at breakfast, lunch is usually a veg puree using left overs from night before and dinner is whatever we are having (spag bol etc) pureed and then a yogurt.

because we have dinner late, ive started giving her milk around 4ish and the dinner at 6ish with 4oz of half water, half pure apple juice to help with pooing. :-)

i find that if i stop feeding and she doesnt cry, then she has had enough iyswim. thats my gage that im not over feeding her.

sassy34264 · 16/05/2012 16:46

scheh im not 100% as my memory is shit hazy but i think the books say to give 20oz of milk a day at this stage.

im still giving the twins a bottle first thing in the morning. Blush
im sure super nanny would be frowning at me, but they like it!

im aiming to stop it at 2 years.

sassy34264 · 16/05/2012 16:54

just found this on the babycentre website

If you have been giving your baby formula milk, you can continue to do so. Once your baby is fully established on solids, the minimum amount of formula she should have is between 500ml and 600ml (about a pint) a day.

As long as your baby is having 500ml of formula a day, she won't need a vitamin D supplement. The formula already has vitamin D added.

FuzzzyDuck · 16/05/2012 18:20

Well S has been up since 9.30am, had 30 min nap at 1.45pm so fx she goes down shortly. Had 10 mins in car coming home a while ago but no amount of me talking/shouting at her kept her awake Grin. Is rolling and kicking round the floor just now so aiming for bottle and bed at 7pm Smile
sch S was generally 7oz at wake, 11.30am, 3.30pm and 7pm. Now I've stopped the 11.30 one giving a small snack instead. Things like breadsticks, goodies crisp/puff things. She still enjoys afternoon milk so keeping that for now

We are also 3 meals a day. Weetabix/porridge for breakfast, lunch is usually bread with laughing cow cheese spread or soup and maybe some fruit purée. Dinner is a bit more of a meal, like tonight she had mince with sweet potato mash then a yogurt. I find she os most hungry first thing in the morning and will cry with cereal done so started adding some more. She is eating well so I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. I got Annabelle Carmel's cookbook so looking to try new things now!!

CheshireDing · 16/05/2012 20:26

I need to read and catch up but just thought I would let you know we are heading for a Wonder Week ladies (thought that might cheer you all up) Hmm !

As P's sleep is already rubbishy-random I am not too crazy about it getting worse :(

Will be back after reading up.

strawberrypenguin · 16/05/2012 21:08

glad you had a good time

PA hope you get some decent sleep tonight

mrsH I do 3 meals a day but mostly jars or pouches Blush W seems to prefer them. Gradually introducing more finger foods he has rice crackers, toast, grapes, apples (although I've not given him apple for a week or so since he got a massive slice jammed in his mouth and I had a struggle to get it out) he needs to learn to chew more so slowly working on that. He has 4-5 6oz bottles of formula too.

mama take your time, we'll still be here when you feel like posting. Look after yourself first x

MrsHende · 16/05/2012 21:33

Ladies, thank you all so much, I feel a lot better now. Loving all the finger food ideas too.

Penguin - every 30mins! You must be shattered, hope you have a much better night tonight.

Mama - take your time x

Thanks again!

CheshireDing · 17/05/2012 01:17

Mama that's to be expected, you have a lot of your mind at the moment

BB3 I did a big post the other day then the MN serve went down :(

I posted a question in chat ages ago because I was struggling for breakfast blw ideas and collectively here is the list of things people suggested:-

toast, bagels, cereal with or without milk,
Eggy toast, yoghurt
crumpets with marmite/cheese spread/jam,
weetabix and milk/yoghurt add some fruit puree to sweeten it a bit if you want, potato cakes,
muffins, peanut butter on toast,
blueberry wheats and milk,
beans on toast with egg
banana loaf
raisins, pancakes,
boiled/scrambled egg and toast
english muffins with peanut butter and mashed banana on it. apricot wheats soaked in a bit of breastmilk, quinoa flakes for porridge (P has normal "adult" porridge but am going to try quinoa too)
various fruits as fingers - mango, kiwi, satsuma, melon (I leave the skins on and just cut in to slices for P)
berries
banana
raisin wheats soaked in milk (can be cow's milk)
toast with stuff mashed spread on it (banana, avocado)
banana loaf
rice cakes
sliced omelette
scrambled egg (large ish lumps)
prunes

P has probably tried pretty much everything in here (because she is a piglet). She has eggs for lunch/evening meal too - tonight she had scrambled egg mixed with tuna. Other times she has had spag bol, cucumber/celery slices as snacks, pizza. A fair few breakfast foods can be evening meal foods I find.

If it's a girl though they should only have tuna/mackerel type fish twice a week (boys can have it 4 times a week).

pinkpainter · 17/05/2012 03:17

Having the worst night ever!! Grrrrrr!! M only slept for 10 mins between 6:30am and 6:30pm yesterday, but I'm already on my 3rd feed of the night, she's not even going an hour between going down and waking up. It's my 3rd really bad night in a row and I can't nap in the day as she doesn't sleep then either....I'm rubbish with lack of sleep, tearful and moody.

Thanks for the finger food suggestions.

Right - back to bed again.....

Jnice · 17/05/2012 04:08

Good grief painter I hope you get some sleep now. We're all headed for it I think. L has been consistently waking just twice and last night back to five times again Sad

Tonight Leo had roasted red pepper and courgette plus DH made pizza dough and we did him a mini pizza with just cheese and olive oil. He loved it. Stayed at the table munching happily for half an hour Smile
