Hi Jo - brilliant to hear from you and fabulous news that C is doing so well Smile

We have a proper little diva here too. She's taken to flinging herself down and beating her fists on the floor when things don't go her way. The screaming that accompanies said tantrum is ear splitting...

I dread to think what the terrible twos will be like if she's already like this at 13 months!

Kittycatcat · 27/06/2012 11:32

Yeah we get the water works, I keep telling him he is 13 months and too young for tantrums.

AprilMeadow · 27/06/2012 18:12

Yup that sounds about right!! Finn hates getting his pi's on and screams the place down. Bless his little cottons!!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 28/06/2012 09:58

So sorry to hear about your mc April.

Nice to hear from you Jo. I'm not jealous of your trip to SA at all. Nope. Really. I'm not..... Grin

Toddler I has (finally) learned how to climb onto the sofa. He thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread, however ds2 is not so sure - it was his retreat from the the little tyrant.

Toddler I really does paddy. I don't remember the other two being like this, but then I think he may have learnt some of it from ds2.

Last night the bars finally came off of ds2's cot - he is 3.5yo Blush He slept in a normal single when we were on holiday and he finally decided that he wanted the bars off of his cot. Although of course, when it came to bed time 'I want the bars back on' Hmm

JoEW · 28/06/2012 10:20

Glad I'm not the only one with a diva! Getting dressed is simply unacceptable in C's world and he was extremely cross when I wouldn't let him empty the contents of the bathroom bin onto the floor. Bless 'em, indeed!

JoEW · 28/06/2012 10:23

x posts, Ilike.

i know, I am very lucky with the trip and I am sure when I get to sleep in a quiet hotel room, knowing that I won't be woken up at 6am and when I do wake up I can have a shower and get ready in complete peace, I will miss him a little bit less!

GsyPotatoPieEyed · 28/06/2012 23:53

Grin oh yes, another stroppy little diva developing here as well, I don't know who she gets if from as DH is very laid back. I of course would never throw a strop to get my own way. ignores the fact my DM nicknamed me Madam from a very young age HmmBlush

Kittycatcat · 30/06/2012 11:39

Advice pls ladies. S has two bottles a day. 8oz each. One when he wakes and one before bed. There seems to be an unwritten rule that around 1 they shouldn't have bottles and milk should be in cups. I'll need the bottles for kitten but prob not til about April / may. I've tried putting his milk in the non spill cups we use for his water being varying results but mostly he pushes it away. Mil is one of the believers in no bottle after 1 and angered me recently when she tried doing it herself without our permission. Luckily it didn't work. Dh has suggested asking her to try on their days as a has time from ours to theirs to wake up. I'm not keen in this but only because I'd rather it was me!!??!! I just think maybe it's too soon and we leave it for now. Thoughts? When do they stop having milk to this extent if ever? Ta.

Glaikit · 30/06/2012 14:12

We have started using these cups first with water and now for his milk. Took a while for him to master it, but now he knows exactly what to do. He still has his night time bottle.

Glaikit · 30/06/2012 14:14

I just offered both the sippy cup and the straw cup so he could decide which one he would use. I'd tell mil to stick with what you are doing though.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/06/2012 16:02

I really do think it is personal choice, and you should do what you want to do.

I think the getting rid of bottles argument is to do with milk pooling in the mouth and around the teeth and causing tooth decay. Although I should imagine a lot of people's arguments are to do with seeing a toddler walking around with a 'baby's' bottle - much the same as the dummy argument.

Dentist's encourage the use of straws because it moves the liquid straight down to the back of the mouth and past the teeth.

I personally use all different types of cups, so that the boys can use cups at anyone's house- and so it doesn't matter if I forget to take a cup with me when I go out.

My favourites are the cups Fizz linked to and these sipper cups

Kittycatcat · 30/06/2012 19:58

Thanks both. I've got both those cups, the sipper and the straw and he uses them all the time for water but is refusing to have his milk in them. I keep offering but he melts down.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/06/2012 20:25

kitty I would just go with S's pace - he will move on to a cup when he wants to. Do you cuddle him when he has his milk in a cup, or leave him to it? T will drink milk from a cup - we use the Sainsbury's non-spill one, they are brilliant and don't leak, and less than half the price of the TT ones! He won't at bedtime though, he wants boob, but he will drink milk from them during the day.

Tbh I wouldn't stress, it will happen when it happens.

Kittycatcat · 30/06/2012 20:49

Yeah I do our usual routine which includes cuddle feed. Yeah I think I will tell dh I want to leave it for now. I can try again when I'm on mat leave.

JoEW · 02/07/2012 08:29

Morning all,

I'd been wondering the same, Kitty. I still give C a bottle when he wakes up and at bedtime - both are with me giving him a cuddle (I love the bedtime one). During the day I just use the Tommy Tippee cups, which he's fine with though most goes on the floor.

We've had so much change going on that I was reluctant to stop them till everything settled down with a new house, new nursery etc. I was thinking of chaning the morning one first and giving him that in a cup. Maybe I'll try one of those explorer ones, might be less messy.

Also, with his bedtime bottle I'm giving him that after his bath and teeth 'clean'. I guess I'll have to change the bedtime routine too. I don't like missing with what works! Gulp.

Glaikit · 02/07/2012 09:42

I need to ask about bedding. Pillows and duvets. B always ends up lying on his bunny like a pillow, so should I give him a proper one? Are there special ones? Or just you regular pillow? Cot bed duvet? Maybe not just yet, but he unzips his bag and wears it like a cape!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/07/2012 10:37

in his cape - that has cracked me up Grin

T has a cot pillow and a cot sized duvet.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/07/2012 10:48

Pillows and duvets after a year I think - please check, I haven't looked into the advice since ds2 was wee. John Lewis are good for bedding I find.

If you would like B to carry on with the sleeping bag, grobags have a popper fastening over the zip so they can't open the bag. Unless of course they can open the popper, but I have to pull quite hard on the popper so I shouldn't think lo's could do it.

The weather is naff here today. Cold and grey. It isn't very inspiring.

Kittycatcat · 02/07/2012 11:42

Exactly the same as us joew. We do bottle last thing after bath and teeth. I have decided not to push him as he is usually v good at change but resisting this. Said when we try again will get another cup so it's not one he familiarises with water.

S has grobag stay on bedding. It stays on the bed but s defies it and gets out and sleeps on it! the pillow case is fitted to the bottom sheet so it cant move and he cant get his head under it. and the duvet zips to the sheet.

Glaikit · 02/07/2012 11:42

Ooh, more shopping to do then! Had a squizz online and all boyish bedding is mostly blue. Bs room is red and cream. This might be like the hunt for nursery decorations! I should have bought bedding back then to match. It's been discontinued now.

Kittycatcat · 02/07/2012 11:44

fizz try babies r us. i saw a lovely set in their that was blue and red with cars and soldiers on

Glaikit · 02/07/2012 12:33

Thanks kitty! I'm trying to avoid blue all together. Irrational gender stereotype thing I have! I'm forever buy pink clothes forB too! Boys clothes but pink!

White company have some red gingham bedding but at £35 just for the duvet cover I might dust off my mums sewing machine and make my own!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/07/2012 13:18

Have you looked on EBay for the discontinued bedding? Children's bedding isn't much cheaper than adults I find. I would recommend 100% cotton bedding as well - especially if they are sweaty betty's.

Kittycatcat · 02/07/2012 13:30

good thinking on both counts. I like S in pinks and purples too :)

Glaikit · 02/07/2012 13:55

I always forget about eBay! One plain red set and one with diggers in my basket. Just going to have a Brew to think about them first!
