Eeek figgy! we've all got bouncing babes to look forward to. Thanks for volunteering to be first! X

hawthers · 21/04/2012 13:42

DS1 fell off our high bed and landed on the floor a couple if times and he us just fine. It's scary though poor you figgy

OiMissus · 21/04/2012 14:02

There's an update to DrawSomething, you can write msgs! :)

Figgygal · 21/04/2012 15:08

Oh i felt really bad but he's absolutely fine.

Been off to slimbridge and he was crying in his pushchair (AGAIN) so ended up carrying him round a lot so as not to upset the birds. I either need to remember to take the sling with me when i go out or get a new pushchair with a forward and rear facing seat as he is fine when can see us. I love my baby jogger apart from fact its forward facing only.

He has just been fed 2hrs after his last feed as was seemingly starving i gave him some baby rice too think will move him onto porridge next before introducing purees.

YBR · 21/04/2012 15:10

seven Last time we went away we just took a heat-proof (plastic) bowl rather than a sterilizer. We used the kettle in the hotel room and added boiling water to the bottle bits in the bowl to to sterilize them. We took cartons on that trip though so I'm not sure of the rest of the procedure.

Generally we pre-make formula and keep it in the fridge, if we're going out for a short time we take one of these and heat it up when required. Most places which sell hot drinks will give you hot water to heat a feed if you buy something.

MissRee · 21/04/2012 15:40

You could also get some Milton for sterilisation whilst staying away from home Grin I have some for sterilising stuff that can't be microwaved... e.g. Water-filled teethers etc

Rashkakeller · 21/04/2012 15:57

Poor you, Figgy! Must admit to a little chuckle when you said about lo looking for his milk. Had visions of you and your dh in total bits while lo is wedged on the coffee table, straining to look for his bottle haha! Dd rolled off the bed when she was a baby when I stepped out the room to get something off the landing, was mortified but she stopped crying when I gave her a bf (it's all about food with them!). Dp dragged us down to primary care when he got back from work because he could see a lump - nurse could barely stop from rolling her eyes as it turned out the lump was just her normal skull!!

Ds got me up at 2.15 and 7.20 for feeds, managed to go back to bed until 8.30 by plying him with music and toys in his cot

Been to the family event and lunch out with friends today so feeling knackered now! Insisted dd have a nap so having a bit of downtime...although ds has started to whinge a bit on his playgym now

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 21/04/2012 16:13

Figgy Hope DS is alright and you & DH are not to trauma stricken :)

We've been and brought Sky a lovely walker this morning (on sale in Babies R Us) Also picked up some Annabel Karmel ice cube trays and i'm currently pureeing for the freezer some fruit & veg combos ready for when we start introducing that to Sky. She seems alot better with her milk today drank 3 bottles already and is currently having a nap - think she may of had an off day.

Off out for the first time with DP since Sky was born for a meal for the in-laws birthday.

Question: Would Broccoli & Swede pureed be a nice combo or too different?

GeeandTee · 21/04/2012 17:39

I think that would work as broccoli is quite bitter and swede is sweet. DS always liked sweet potato and broccoli and I still do it for him as mash!

seven77 · 21/04/2012 17:50

YBR that's what we normally do, I can make in advance and heat up her lunch and afternoon bottles on the day we go, but her bedtime bottle will be too late to keep cold and there'll be no fridge to pre-make the next days bottles.

dsm glad she's feeling better today, enjoy your meal out tonight. Eva's such a sicky baby I'm staying well clear of broccoli purée! The first time I gave it to DS he had a bad cough at the time, he coughed so much he made himself sick, it was all over both of us, all over the carpet and down the wall!

aethel I know what you mean now when you mentioned the other day commercial baby foods that say from 4 months when they aren't suitable. I looked at all of the rusks and cereals in asda earlier and found one that didn't contain milk or gluten. I must have given DS gluten too early, I just assumed if its from 4 months it'll be correct within the guidelines!

Eva's bedtime bottle has been getting slowly earlier over the last few days, would I be best to move her solids to tea time or give her a second lot, so one at lunchtime and then again at tea time? She ate nearly all of it yesterday but wasn't overly bothered today.

seven77 · 21/04/2012 17:51

Mmm DS and me used to love sweet potato purée!

Figgygal · 21/04/2012 18:06

Gah lo was had his 5 bottles already today i feel a growth spurt coming on!!

GeeandTee · 21/04/2012 18:27

Unfortunately I have bad memories and stained carpets from when DS was sick after eating sweet potato mash. I found sweet potato and banana the most difficult stains to get out. I am very happy to wait until DD is 6 months before I think about weaning!

aethelfleda · 21/04/2012 18:49

Hee hee, swede was the only weaning food the DDs used to spit out every time!

seven, all of us were probably weaned at 3 months with everything (and our mums all ate liver and brie!)- a decade or so ago research showed that gluten early makes coeliac disease a bit more likely in later life. Bizarrely, some research a few months back showed that introducing gluten later than 8 months seems to increase the risk too (though not as much as early gluten exposure does). There are so many things to tjink about, rather than get too obsessive I try to keep to a few simple rules and leave it at that. puree tastes are yummy....

And having said that DS has only napped for 90 minutes once in the last month (he catnaps for 20 min bursts, sigh) he had a huge 2 hour sleep in the carseat at the pub. Babies!!!

MissRee · 21/04/2012 18:54

Another recommendation for the pound shop... I got a big plastic sheet (nicely decorated with lil piggies) to go under her highchair and (hopefully) serve as damage limitation for the carpet Grin

Speaking of which, I bought a second hand highchair today! It's a big Mamas & Papas fully height adjustable one with lots of padding. Very sturdy looking and it was only £15! Quick disinfecting wipe down and it will be good as new!

LittleMissFlustered · 21/04/2012 20:02

I might leave it to the older two, they'll enjoy it:o

Up and down day today. No more vomit though which is a good thing:)

NorthernChinchilla · 21/04/2012 20:04

Glad all's OK figgy, it has come or will come to us all! When getting the pushchair, one of the reasons for choosing the Mothercare (sorry!) Spin was so that it could face either way, so that's an option if your DS likes to see you. By the way, is your DH getting a bit more confident on the child-wrangling front?

Y'see Gee, it's tips like that that you won't get from any book or HV, I shall beware banana and sweet potato....

I'll be interested to see how your experiment goes aethel. We've now just about moved onto the feeding regime for the next couple of months (four bfs from me/ebm, and 3 bottles of formula) and DS has started to stay awake for a bit longer between daytime naps. However, it's just as likely to be that he's simply changing anyway, and that it's (our favourite phrase!) correlation rather than causation.

Been totally wrong in the head today with the crappy nights- tried to get a nap this morning, but had just gone off and DS squawked downstairs and I did the insta-parent-reaction-twitch and woke. Was fine til after lunch, then just went downhill. Feeling far better now and just off to get a wee Wine.

Also had WORDS with DP about the kitchen. It's his job and it's not been done in at least two weeks and is a tip. I keep on saying that he's welcome to go on the computer and play his games as much as he likes, but not when there's outstanding housework. It's also bloody disrespectful to me, as it ignores how I feel, and the fact that I hold my end of the housework bargain up without being told and with far greater job pressures.

DS will be less of a lazy and spoilt arse housetrained if it kills me!

aethelfleda · 21/04/2012 21:10

Hmmm... Having second thoughts about the bottle-at-lunchtime plan and not given him one yet... Following the unheard-of aftermoon nap, He's only just dropped off now, bang goes the evening :(

Oh well, time for a little Noel Fielding's luxury comedy (taped but not watched yet...)

Figgygal · 21/04/2012 21:26

NorthernAt the time my main motivation was to find something compact that would fit in my car. Lo will get used to it he's so nosey i thought he'd love looking out at everything. As for dh hes still not put lo to bed going to force the issue tomorrow night even he admits hes making excuses to avoid it.

MissRee · 21/04/2012 22:27

Ladies should I be worried about clear, watery sick? She seems fine in herself but soaked herself earlier doing watery sicks. She's also done a couple of humongous wet poops today but I don't know whether they looked worse because the sainsbos nappies I'm trying seem to be absolute shite.

Teething maybe?

fusam · 21/04/2012 23:42

Good luck to all those returning to work. Haddocks at the ready for anyone in need of them.

This might have been asked already but does the weaning help with sleep issues? (Perks up and looks hopeful). Thank god for the weekend got a lie in this morning and feeling human again.

LittleMissFlustered · 22/04/2012 02:47

MissRee if the sick continues for a prolonged period I'd be worried. For a day or two I'd just assume a tummy bug invader.

fusam Milk is calorifically superior to weaning foods, but digests quicker. If you maintain the milk quantities and add food as an extra you might lick out and get some sleep. Of my older two it worked with the boy:)

I'm tempted to put the octopus to sleep in with the cats in the kitchen tonight. He's spents the last half hour dinging and giggling like a proper Saturday night drunk >_< It's very cute but I'm tired!
