Oh how I wish we hadn't looked at this place as an exciting project and damn it for being such a bargain because of it!

So far we have de-tiled the walls, removed half of the artex from the walls, chased in the new light fitting (no more bulkhead light!) and removed all fixtures and fittings.

Everything is bought and stacked at random places around the house. Tomorrow for finishing the wall prep and boarding the ceiling back up before the plasterer comes on Friday to skim it.

I'm so proud of DP taking this on during his week off but I can't flipping wait til it's all done and the house is back to normal!

MissRee · 04/04/2012 19:53

Oh and the electric shower taken out had clearly been on fire ST some point. The inside was totally black and melted. Lucky escape methinks!

HoneyLovesCake · 04/04/2012 20:00

I have tried swaddling LMF but the info on it is so confusing; I'm overly anxious about SIDS & some studies suggest it could increase the risk whilst others say it could lower it Confused (My older brother died the year before I was born so it had a big effect on me) It doesn't really work for us anyway; if he wakes up swaddled he goes absolutely ballistic & he does eventually work an arm free & wake himself. The one time he slept for over 30 mins it was because I'd used a fleece blanket & he'd overheated :(

So tired today. Are dummies really that good Gee? I haven't tried one & didn't really want to but I'm considering it after today.

MissRee · 04/04/2012 20:13

At what stage does SIDS become less of a risk?

Dummies are our saviour honey. I didn't want Freya to have one but now she only really has it to soothe her to sleep. I'm incredibly lucky in that she's like mummy and can/will sleep almost anywhere. We have had a few screechy days where she won't settle but generally naps for around six hours on and off during the day with her dummy. She doesn't have it at night though unless she wakes in the early hours which isn't very often now.

MissRee · 04/04/2012 20:44

My friend appears to be in early labour! Im so jealous Envy

GeeandTee · 04/04/2012 21:01

I'm only going on my experience with DS and comparing him to my friends' children who don't have dummies, and he is by far the best sleeper of all I know. And my childminder's eldest had a dummy and was a great sleeper and her youngest won't take a dummy and is a rubbish sleeper. I guess its an instant stress relief and soother. The only problem is when they are very little you might have to keep replacing it in the nighgt. But when they are old enough you can get this rabbit toy to attach dummies to so they can find them easily.

DS only ever had it for sleeping. I discuSsed it with DS's cranial osteopath who is paediatric trained and he is all in favour of them as they destress and soothe, which apparently can help with. Brain development. Also meant to lower SIDS risk.

DD even gags on my boob when she's finished drinking. She is going to be a thumb sucker I think which I am not very happy about.

GeeandTee · 04/04/2012 21:04

One of my friends just announced she is pregnant, due beginning October. Why on earth do I feel jealous when I DEFINITELY don't want any more DCs and hate being pregnant?!

OiMissus · 04/04/2012 21:11

BOi won't take a dummy. The only way to get him to sleep at night is by walking and rocking him. It's especially tough at the moment as he is teething. Sad
he's fine during the day though. He only really catnaps during the day -either because of the car seat or pram - he doesn't like to go down in his travel cot (daytime bed downstairs). I'm going to have to bring his pram in and make the stroller part flat and smooth to try and rock him to sleep in that...

Freya sleeps in her swing during the day. We switch between playgym and bouncy chair during awake time and she goes in her swing when she starts grizzling where she will sleep for up to 3 hours at a time.

NewtTrapper · 04/04/2012 21:14

Honey Daisy won't take a dummy either. I didn't want her to have one but got to the end of my tether with her not sleeping so tried one but no luck. I am sort of pleased but also annoyed. She sucks her hand all the time though and often just wants the boob for sucking to comfort herself rather than food. Sorry to hear about your brother I imagine SIDs must be a big worry for you, more so than normal.

Gee congrats for your friend. New pregnancy is so exciting. My sister is pregnant at the moment and finds out the sex tomorrow. I am beside myself with excitement. She miscarried the first time she was pregnant, the week I found out I was expecting so this last year has been really tough on her but seems to all be going well now so soooo happy for her.

MissRee great news about your friend going into labour. Hope all goes well and it is nice and straight forward for her.

NorthernChinchilla · 04/04/2012 21:35

Heavens HLC, I can understand why SIDS would be at the forefront of your mind, I'm really sorry to hear that about your brother. I think that the SIDS risk is highest 2-4 months MissRee.

DS has always been good overnight, but is now a decent daytime napper (just not when he has to be hoiked out of his pram and upstairs). He goes for 45 minutes in his cot 3-4 times a day- wish it were for longer, but I'm not complaining (except about the pram Wink), although am totally jealous of Freya! I use a dummy, it's brilliant, and wouldn't be without it.
I'd definitely give it a go HLC; do try different ones (DS only likes the AVENT ones) and we had to persevere, but it's worth it. It's also linked with a lower risk of SIDS.

Also I was a finger sucker, and not only bent my teeth but my right index finger out of shape- dummies have to be better than that!

MissRee · 04/04/2012 21:45

Funnily enough, Freya prefers Avent dummies too. I bought some Mam ones but the teat was too short and she couldn't keep it in her mouth (maybe due to her Tongue tie?).

AWomanCalledHorse · 04/04/2012 21:52

Honey, we were strictly no dummies until DS was 4 days old, he's had one since then and he sleeps really well. Although the fun is in when he pulls it out his mouth and wakes himself up because he misses it. Like Northern we've tried different ones, and he likes the Morrisons own brand ones best (which is great they're cheap).
Sorry to hear about your brother. x

DS sleeps in his swing too MissRee, best piece of plastic baby tat we've bought!

Gee, congrats to your friend! 2 people I know are pg atm...bitches! Gah, I'm so broody. Dh agreed to 7 children, if we win the lottery.

Going to see HV tomorrow to see if she's in agreement that DS wants weaning atm!

What has everyone got planned for this extended Easter weekend?

MissRee · 04/04/2012 21:56

The broodiness strikes here too AWCH! DP is adamant that he doesn't want any more though now we have Jack (my DSS) and Freya Sad he thinks we're getting too old now at 30 too Grin

We shall see once we've got our bigger house. Of course this is all reliant on my ability to fall pregnant again...

plutocrap · 04/04/2012 22:00

I'm also considering a dummy for the first time, as DD has violently taken against her car seat, and is hoarse at the moment from screaming about it. Why the effing jeff did we move to Car-pington?! We're off to the West Country tomorrow, too, so I hope to God she will sleep, not cry.

I think the risk of SIDS falls off steeply at about 6 months, which is good for all of us, as our babies' second winter is going to last at least until May or June, innit? Wink

seven77 · 04/04/2012 22:03

Sorry I've not had a chance to catch up today.

I just wanted to update that Eva had her first solids today. She woke for a feed again last night, I know not a big deal for most babies on here but she gave up her night feeds 10 weeks ago! She had some baby rice, she wasn't too sure but I think a couple of spoonfuls went down and a hundred came straight back out again. It'll be interesting to see what happens tonight. I bought jars of food in asda earlier and apples and pears to make purée. I'm doing what I did with DS, making food for at home and using jars when we're out for convenience. It's very odd to see jars of baby food in the cupboard again!

From the last few posts I've skimmed Eva won't take a dummy so I've given up trying, and honey I'm so sorry to hear about your brother.

We're all very excited about the zoo tomorrow :o

plutocrap · 04/04/2012 22:04

Grin at elderly 30 year olds, MissRee: DH and I are both to the wintry side of 36 (mind you, there's been snow on my roof since I was 20!) , and both of us have birthdays coming up!

GeeandTee · 05/04/2012 02:04

Forgot to say sorry about your brother honey.

LittleMissFlustered · 05/04/2012 02:04

I'm 31 and feel utterly past it, but that's more to do with mindset and a dodgy knee I think. I'm done though. No more babies. Doctor has agreed I can be sterilised, I just need to tell her when to refer me. I'm losing another few stone before I do it, don't fancy a general anaesthetic at my weight >_<

Am sat listening to the octopus singing to himself. Going to be another long night:(

LittleMissFlustered · 05/04/2012 02:38

1.5 hours of food, singing and nappy changing. Think he's asleep now, but not totally sure. Not liking this new addition to nights. Hoping it's just a short phase.

hawthers · 05/04/2012 03:27

Growth spurt - yawn

aethelfleda · 05/04/2012 03:32

....

scoobyd00 · 05/04/2012 04:58

So fed up of frequent night feeds.

BJR · 05/04/2012 05:16

Wide awake watching my baby sleep. He's not had a wee for at least 10 hours, so i'm worried he's dehydrated now. NHS direct said to take him to GP when it opens at 8, which was what I planned to do anyway :(

hawthers · 05/04/2012 06:30

Oh bjr hope your DS is ok. Sounds like a really horrid bug.
