OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Karmamother · 11/02/2006 08:58

Morning all.

Rather of your meet-up. I feel a bit stuck out on a limb up here. I could always tag onto Twinkle on her trips up North!
Golden, I have to admit, your success is (almost) spurring me on to go back to SW. I shall have to order a new syns book as mine is well out of date.
Diege, lol at missing 2 trains! I can sympathise with you as those shops were to blame, enticing you in.
Nova, lol at Nat's well-timed poo.

Well, had a good long talk with HV yesterday, I'm lucky as she's a good one. Did the Edinburgh test & I scored 16/30 so I have to make an appt with my GP. Started taking St. John's Wort, rather not take a/d's again. I'm loads better than last time but I don't want let it creep up & bite me on the arse, metaphorically speaking.

On a lighter note, you MUST have a look at the "Is this how men cook"? thread in the chat section, if you haven't already. There's a hilarious link.

Karmamother · 11/02/2006 09:00

oops, first time my computer's done that.
Beksmum, have you given calpol? Make sure he's getting lots to drink.

Diege · 11/02/2006 09:40

Morning! Hope Ben is recovering BEks. I think I would ring NHS Direct if his temperature is still high this morning, just to be on the safe side .
Where about are you KARMA? Your HV sounds great, and glad the St. Johns is working. Good that you have been able to talk about it - half the battle I think.
Well, off to hairdressers this morning, and then contemplating Chicken Little tommorrow with dds 1 &2; they've been to the theatre, but never cinema before. Hopefully big bag of sweets will see us through .
Speak later,
Diege.

twinkle1 · 11/02/2006 09:44

twinkle & josh

goldenoldie · 11/02/2006 09:56

Karma - I got all my SW book on e-bay. Its worth a look.

Rodeo · 11/02/2006 10:41

Morning! Twinkle you are a star! I agree the time did fly by though, felt a bit guilty leaving when I did, if I'd have planned a bit better I maybe could have gone back with L&Ssmum? Ah well, an idea for next time maybe?

Beks, Got Hellkat's brilliant news and scan piccies this morning!! Wow!! Yippeeeee! For those of you who didn't know her she started our antenatal thread but lost her baby at 12 weeks The good news is she's expecting again and is due in Sept She's had 2 scans (7wks & 9wks) so far and the 'bean' looks well!

Woke up with a bag on this morning as dp was getting ready really noisily (slamming drawers, spraying deoderant, etc ) waking Jess up after me settling her off at 7 to sleep again to give me a lie-in. Wouldn't usually mind but I was at work last night and a couple of extra hours in bed really does make a difference, ggggrrrrrr, so he was met by one-worded replies this morning! Feeling a little better now after my breakfast...

Karma, good luck with the tablets, hopefully they'll start kicking in soon, well done for you and your HV for spotting it and well done you for not fibbing on the test

Diege have a great time at the cinema, although keep off those sweets, if there's one thing you don't need it's extra calories Diege is a bit of a fraud everyone, she's slim, petite and gorgeous. SW indeed!!

Beks, hope Ben gets better quickly, poor little thing, Joe had a cold and v.high temp last week and calpol and nurofen did the trick. The house was so peaceful though with him ill on the sofa, not wishing him to be poorly but it was a bit of a break

Going to see Gran in hospital this afternoon, I must ring the ward to see if I can take Jess, it may cheer her up a bit Bye!

Londoner · 11/02/2006 10:46

Hi everyone, good morning,

Just quickly, BEKs, my advice would be the same as others, Calpol, but also tepid flannelling every 20-30 mins along with small amounts of water (couple of sips) at same intervals..... it's hard but it works. His delirium could be as a result of his high temp. You'll know this is the cause if he is lucid when you bring down his temp with the flannelling/calpol. If his temp doesn't come down within 24 hours or he shows any worrying symptoms then call NHS people. Sounds like some sort of virus so hopefully he should be able to fight it off himself. If he won't drink the water perhaps make some ice cubes for him to suck, either plain water or with fruit juice or squash? Blend them up to make 'slush pupppies'......... Good luck. (Pretend you're Florence Nightingale)

BEKsmum · 11/02/2006 14:20

Afternoon girls, thanks for all the tips, Florence Nightingale I'm not I've given him the combination of Nurofen and Calpol as you all suggested and thankfully it has brought his temperature down again, thus returning whinging poorly 3 year old to whinging normal 3 year old , hence why I can post on here.

Did phone EmDoc at midday to get some advice but was helpfully told that they'd get back to me within the next 3 hours and I'm still waiting - glad it wasn't serious

Karma I got a 6 on my first Edinburgh test and a 10 on my second and a 14 on my third, well done you for recognising the signs and for taking the SJW, I agree with you about not wanting to take anti depressants, hope the tablets kick in quickly for you, but if you need someone to talk to about it just CAT me I know what you're going through.

Rodeo it's fab news isn't it about Hellkat sounds like she had a rough ride at first but she's flying high now.

Glad you all had fun at your meet up are there any photo's?

Thomas asked me to tell you all that he loves mashed potato and banana custard!!! Decided to try him on a little bit of solids as he was so interested and he just scoffs it off the spoon - hooray will have a little sumo on my hands before I know it, lets hope he learns to walk early too to get the lbs back off

Right best go and get some lunch while peace reigns, and the kiddy drugs work, not sure how long that will be!

Thanks again all Beks

Diege · 11/02/2006 16:29

Afternoon everyone . So glad you got back OK TWINKLE , you must be shattered today! My legs were really aching, probably from the miles we stacked up walking around the shops . Agree, we should get there earlier next time - I'm like a crazy woman when I see shops and go into a trance-like state!
RODEO: Bet you were furious with DP! I know I would have been! Hopefully you've managed to get a bit of rest today? Thanks for the compliments BTW - yes, I do get a few odd looks when I mention SW to people, but as I'm only petite build, I'm actually carrying a stone and a half extra for my height, and have just moved out of 'overweight' category last week . Have been thinking about London meet-up, and think yes, we should do it! I think I will stay over in London (Kilburn?)with sister-in-law the night before though...may get even more overwhelmed with London shops, so probably would need to spread things out over two days! Did we agree on April?
Great news about Hellcat ; we were in the same 'trying to conceive' stream, and I remember her posts fondly.
BEKSMUM: Glad Ben is feeling a bit better, and back to his toddler-self! V. shocked at emergency service...thank goodness it wasn;t serious! Had a frind whose toddler had febrile convulsions, and they took six hours to get dr. to house; in the end they gave up and went straight to casualty . Wow, Thomas on solids..brilliant! (is he our first to be weaned?)mmm, mashed potato...
GOLDEN: just a thought about sw; you can join 'online' and as part of the deal you get free access to 'syns online'...may be worth a look?
Well, off to see friend's baby this evening who was born this morning, a girl weighing 8.14oz!!!! Will bring back memories seeing the hospital ward!
Take care everyone,
Diege and Liberty.

twinkle1 · 11/02/2006 16:59

cool diege, she had a girl eh???
blimey its cold today we had snow earlier!!!!!
is london meet going to be on a weekend?????
twinkle

Diege · 11/02/2006 21:08

Hi TWINKLE . Baby was beautiful, and made me a TINY bit broody !!, but not so that I'd have another! Can imagine how cold it must be up your way, brrrrr!!!!, pretty nippy here too! Hadn't thought about a weekend meet, but this might suit other people ? Could you make a weekend? (can you imagine how much organising the northern fraternity is going to make of this one! !!!!
Well, off to watch the skating results
Keep warm!
Diege

Rodeo · 11/02/2006 22:37

Evening,

so glad Martins left Dancing on Ice!! Haha! We are sad for watching it! Although just about to watch From Dusk til Dawn, I love it, George looks so young and gorge in it!

Awww, a newborn Diege Seems sooooo long ago now! What did she call her?

Went to visit Gran, but she kept asking me 'Where's Anne-Marie?' - my full name, hmmmmm. I'll put it down to the drugs. She did perk up though, she told me about the woman in the bed next to her. This woman, about 80ish, kept staring at my Gran, so my Gran asked 'What are you staring at? I can't sleep with you staring at me!' to which the lady replied 'I 'm looking at you, I want to look at you'! then at bedtime she kept saying 'I don't want to sleep down here, let's go upstairs to bed, Alice' we did have a giggle about it but the poor lady.....

Wonder what Nova's up to tonight, having great time I bet!

Right, I'm missing George.....

OP posts:
Diege · 12/02/2006 10:05

Morning everyone!
Well the weather is awful here this morning- heavy rain , so cinema it is! dds 1 & 2 are both in 'lively' moods this morning, so hoping it's going to go OK! Big bags of pick and mix all round I think!
RODEO: yes, love the skating programme too, and never liked Martin either...he looked really pi**ed off too - ha! I loved John Barrowman - he was robbed last week . Had a laugh when I turned over to watch it after the 'proper' Olympic figure skating! Newborn baby has now got a name (they had been convinced she was a boy and hadn;t thought up a girl's name ). She's called Charlotte and is the spit of her dad.
Had a bit of a scary one last night when dd2 somersaulted off sofa (after repeated warnings not to)straight onto Libby . We were VERY lucky as she seems to just have made contact to the side of her eye, with no mark. The crying was HORRIFIC though, and I will never, ever leave her on the floor again when dds are in. She seemed fine 10 mins after, and was laughing at the skiing on TV...but still, will keep an eye on her today and head up to casuality if necessary. Know what those of you with toddlers mean now about floors .
Diege.

novadandypowder · 12/02/2006 15:35

just a quickie - hen night was FAB!!!! I was amazed at my stamina, but unfortunately I now have to go back to caring for a baby on 3 hours sleep and a greasy fry up

Roll on the wedding.....

BEKsmum · 12/02/2006 16:10

Afternoon girls,

Juat a quickie from me, ended up at the Emdoc at the hospital with Ben in the end yesterday afternoon as it seems I spoke too soon, his temperature went through the roof again and the Dr said the best hope he could give me is that it's a chest infection the worst would be that it was going to be a really bad Flu that appears to be wiping out most of Bromley.

We left with antibotics and were told to keep gviing him lots of calpol and nurofen, thankfully he got a peaceful nigths sleep but woke up this morning with a temperature of 39.8 Finally got him off to sleep again and he slept till 10am and now seems to be feeling somewhat better - not sure if this is because there is so much kiddy drug in his system or if it's finally broken - lets hope it's the later!!!

Right better go and check on him as we've got the "I'm dying" voice back so will go and stick a thermometer in his ear again and get out the medicine spoon.

Hope you're all having a good weekend Beks

browniechick · 12/02/2006 16:36

Hi All, Thanks BAM for invite - got it this time - no idea where the others went!
All of your little ones look lovely - must try and get my bum in gear and post one or two of T.
My Grandad has now been moved into a unit which is in Stratford (where we live) so it is much easier to visit him. Took T into see him today, and he got quite chatty (T that is!) cooing and gurgling at Grandad, who was thrilled to see him.

Will dig the recipe for the soup I made out and post it for anyone that wants a try - it was fabulous!

Right - better go and make a start on the Sunday dinner - those potatoes won't peel themselves!! Bugger!!!!!
Brownie & Thomas

LaylaandSethsmum · 12/02/2006 19:40

Evening all !!! Meant to post earlier but its suddenly sunday nigt and I don't know where the weekend has gone - again.

Rodeo, Twinkle and Diege - Like you've already said it was fab to meet up on friday and we really should do it again before our gorgeous little babies grow into boisterous toddlers who won't let us sit and eat pizza any more!!

beks - sorry to hear about Ben its a nightmare isn't it when they are ill just keep up the calpol ( crap advice but about all i can muster am afraid0!!!

Glad to read you had a great weekend nova , don't know where you get the energy from though.

thanks to all who offered advice about Seth thrashing around during feeds, He's still doing it but not quite so often and I think its if theres a lot going on and he thinks he might miss something!!

Anyway he's crying now when he should be fast off so will speak later xxx

ChaCha · 12/02/2006 22:09

Hi everyone,

Beks, just skimmed through what I could of all the posts and read that Ben hasn't been too well Hoping that you have a better week with a lively little Ben running around and get lots of rest and TLC.

Jenjam - I really enjoyed reading your post. IMHO it's the kind of text one would find as the star letter of a parenting magazine. Loved it!

Hopefully I haven't missed anything too important, it's hard work catching up on so many posts..phew!

That's it for me folks. Hi to everyone xx

LilJ · 13/02/2006 10:48

Hi everyone,

Been very busy so haven't managed to completely catch up on posts, but hope everyone is well.

N. had his jabs on Thursday which went fine, he's got his BCG today so I'm hoping he'll be as easy with this one as he was with the others. He had a w/e full of relatives as it was my aunt's 60th b-day on Saturday on my Mum's side of the family and then we headed up to see my Dad's side on Sunday for lunch - N.'s first longish car ride to the Midlands. He took it all in stride and it seemed to knock him out as he's been sleeping pretty much solidly since we got back.

We're off to Geneva on Thursday so DH can do a bit of skiing and N/ can play in the snow. First plane ride , but fortunately a short one so I'm hoping he'll be OK with it as we want to start travelling again and it would be wonderful if he liked flying ...

Made the terrible mistake of weighing myself yesterday - won't do that again for a long time!!! I'm 2 stone heavier than I'd like to be - I guess it's time to start thinking about pilates .

Otherwise N. is soooooo lovely these days, all smiles and gurgles. Beginning to contemplate maybe having another one in the not too distant future as I just love being a Mum!

J xx

beartime · 13/02/2006 13:36

LilJ I'm with you on loving being a mum - me too. I can't believe anyone can be so amused by me - I'm such a boring person, but he just smiles and smiles!

After reading about infant potty training I sat him on the potty this morning when I changed him - and lo and behold when I took him off after about 20 secs there was pee in the bottom! I don't think I would do the whole elimination thing cos they eliminate too many times to catch him every time, but I wouldn't mind catching the poos since you have to change them straight away anyway, and I wouldn't mind trying putting him on at every nappy change - might save me some nappies!

Rodeo · 13/02/2006 13:51

Afternoon all

It's quiet on here today isn't it?!

Lil, good to hear from you, have a fab time in Geneva!! How lovely! I'm sure N will be fine on the plane, I think it's just taking off and landing you have to be careful with, but as long as he's got a dummy/bottle/boob to suck on he should be ok

I'm off to a keep-fit class tonight, was supposed to be going with 3 friends but that's down to 1 now! Did think I might weedle my way out of it but she's really keen to go so I've said I'll go too, I know I'll feel great after but it's mustering up the enthusiasm! Need to lose about a stone too so I've got to start soon!

Beks, poor little Ben! Hope he's getting over it by now, it must have really taken it out of him. Sending get well wishes his way! And wow! Our first little babe on solids! Is T more settled now, is his colic calming down?

Jess had her first swim yesterday We were in the pool for about 25 mins which I thought was good going, it's nice and warm though. Changing rooms not too bad, they've just had those fold down baby changing unit installed in the family rooms which is really handy. How long are you in the pool for Nats classes Nova?

Nova, glad you had a brilliant night! How did you cope yesterday? Did you have a hangover or were you just tired? I can't cope with hangover and children! I get so grouchy!

Diege, aw little Libby! We just have to take comfort in the fact they'll grow up to be tough little things with all these knocks and bashes! Although I seem to be the guilty one when it comes to Jess's bumps, walking past door frames too close, knocking her on the carseat handle etc.

Brownie, how's your grandad? Glad little T cheers him up. Any hope of him coming home soon? My sis is visiting Gran in hosp today, so will get feedback from her later

And Hurrah, 24 is back on on Sunday nights!! Needed something to replace Lost

Right, need to sort some laundry, it seems to have been breeding over the weekend, I really need to keep on top of it a bit better!

OP posts:
Rodeo · 13/02/2006 13:53

Beartime! You have too much time on your hands

OP posts:
Busyalexsmummy · 13/02/2006 14:01

beartime-why??
even if they are dry by a yr, i wouldnt class them as potty trained-more the fact the parent has learnt what time to hold on the potty and so they happen to do it on the pot rather than the nappy. whats the point?

BEKsmum · 13/02/2006 15:50

Afternoon all,

Just letting off a silent scream - I hate half term and it's only Monday!!!

Thanks for the get well wishes for Ben, he appears to be a bit better today but is being a typical man and dying with it - can't believe they learn that trick so early!!!

Rodeo, thanks for asking, Thomas's colic appears to be calming down but he has decided that between 8pm - 10pm is scream time and will only shut up if he's walked around the house an given the opportunity to grin inanely at his favourite penguin clock in the kitchen

While he had his apple and peach last night I explained to him that as the only female in this house I am the boss and he'd better start behaving himself - I also pointed out that daddy was 2nd in charge and the boss only when I'm not around - I think we have the rules straight now and there will be less pacing in future

Glad Jess enjoyed her swim, 25 minutes was good going for a first time - I don't do swimming so not sure when Thomas will get his first dip - bad mummy!!!

Diege glad Libby was ok, it's amazing how resilient they are isn't it. I'm sure her big sisters will inflict much worse on her when she gets older

Nova glad you enjoyed the hen night, are you taking Natalie to the wedding or is it a day of child freedom?

AS you can see I've amanged to skim read the thread so hope I haven't msised too many people out, hope you are all well and I'll be posting again this week just to keep my sanity. Beks

Karmamother · 13/02/2006 16:11

Beksmum, just want to ask you, how long does it take for the SJW to kick in? I'm not expecting any miracles but I'd be glad if it helped even just a bit.
