Gosh, lots of chat to catch up on Grin. Yorkshire, re: feeds sounds like Holly is feeding perfectly well. Libby has identical feeds (4-5 6oz bottles), and to be honest, usually leaves an ounce, sometimes 2 in each bottle. She;s dd3, so you would think I'd be more 'chilled',but I also had a nagging HV who thought she wasn;t taking enough (when she dropped from 50th to 25th perceptile - she's back up to 50th now) - this was weeks ago when she was on 4ozs. TO be honest, IMO babies will take what they want, and if you force it down it'll just come up again (usually whole bottle!) - and have you ever tried to feed a bavby milk when they don't want it???? Not a happy baby!
BOB: we have baby juice too, (thE Heinz pearjuice, well diluted with water); I give ot to her late afternoon, just to keep her going till last feed(on recommnedatioh of Gina Blush). She guzzles it down!
RE: TV, yes, it's always on here too, though they don;y all sit goggle-eyed in front of it.TBH, I have it on more for 'company' than anything else in the day.
Arghhhh, TEX, why did you mention 'doodle do!!'; i've been playing it oin my head since I read your post Grin.
LOL NOVA at pushy, showy mums; get used to it!! It's very easy to get drawn in too, so beware! Good for you at shouting at builders too Grin.
Well, on my own tonight and tommrrow, as DH has gone off for early birthday celebration weekend (er, 4 weks early) in the lake district, with his mountain bike and beery mates. Don;t mond, but am dreading 5.45 wake up tommorrow morning, with all 3 up. Ah well, have ice final and 'song for Europe' to look forward to! I LOVE the Eurovision song contest, anyone else? Rodeo??? Wink.
Diege Smile.
PS, can't take credit for vest rolling, that's RODEO! I'm a peel downer Smile.

goldenoldie · 03/03/2006 19:40

Looks like I'm the only one not into mags. I don't read a single one - except 'Private Eye' that is - but prob. does not count? But, am a big book reader. Anyone else?

LilJ - Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't tell everyone about the bottle-feeding technique. You will get told-off by the super-mum brigade!

Candi - no big secret about private schools in London. Just ask parents in your area - you will soon be told the ins and outs.

Baby - I'm impressed with the rattle passing - very advanced!!!

yorkshirepuddling · 03/03/2006 19:50

Getting married in October - But was told today "It takes 9 months to make a dress, don't you know???"

Thanks for the advice on the feeding. I was convinced she was alright - my usual HV is very nice and gives common sense mumsy advice rather than HV advice but the stand-in on Wednesday was very 'matrony' I think i'll just ignore her.

Diege · 03/03/2006 20:44

GOLDEN: is the bottle technique chair-feeding/propping? You can;t keep anything a secret from us Grin. NO, Private Eye does NOT count; it has to be of the fluffy, trivial variety to get you in the mag' club. You must do better Grin. LOve books too; used to read constantly (anything from Jane Green/Sophie Kinsella stuff, to Milan Kindera, Maeve Binchy - very varied!), but now can't keep the momentum up...hence the mags! (though I've always loved them!).
Congrats on upcoming wedding YORKSHIRE!; what style is your dress? I got married when 24wks pregant with dd1, and (sickeningly)the size 8 dress was a little too big, bought on impulse, without trying it on, at 5.25pm from Monsoon in Chester for £250 quid! Shock How things change, be lucky to get one ankle in these days!...Grin.

babyonboard · 03/03/2006 20:45

lol..but it takes a much more important 9 months to make a baby!

golden- i've rediscovered my love of books lately, wish i'd done more reading when i was a student and had oodles of time to do so..

babyonboard · 03/03/2006 20:50

diege - seconded..noone should keep brilliant bottlefeding tips from us lot..teehee

wnt you all to look at my website but I don't want to post the address on here..boo

and my p.m still won't work despite several emails to m.n hq

browniechick · 03/03/2006 21:27

Hi All - Gosh it's been busy on here today!

Yorkshire - congrats on the wedding. Bet you are soo excited, but in a headspin at the same time! Remember it well! RE. Feeding, Thomas is on 4 8oz bottles and has been for a few weeks now. would probably take 9oz if I upped it too! He is a growing boy!!!

Nova - did I miss where abouts in the UK you live? THink have asked a couple of times, but don't think you have said yet!?

Can't remember who asked about the TV - it's usually on all day in our house during the week. Normal Adult telly mainly - don't think THomas is too fussed what is on yet! Just have it on for background noise, and to maintain my sanity!! Still devote lots of play time to him though!

Tooth is still not fully through yet - but is definitely on the way!!

Don't really make a habit of buying mags to be honest, read too quick for them to be worth the money! But do occasionally succomb to the odd few!

Am a big reader though - like all the Dan Brown books, Sue Grafton, Stephen King, and loads more.

Also love DVDs - and am VERY into CSI - anyone else a CSI freak????!!

Brownie & Thomas

tessasmum · 03/03/2006 21:50

Evening all!

Haven't been on for a few days as have been trying to regain some sleep! Sleep deprivation caught up with me in a big way a few days ago so I roped in my SiL to pick Tessa up from Pre-school, give her lunch and meet us at the library for our usual Rhyme Time. Took Ash back to bed for his 2nd breakfast and we slept till 1.15pm. It was BLISS Grin Need to do that every day for a fortnight to get back on track though.

Londoner - interesting about 4 month growth spurt though ours seems to have started at 3 months and continued Shock Been waking at least twice a night after sleeping through. I gave in (after being woken 4 times in one night!) and started weaning but it hasn't made much difference, possibly because I was a bit unsure about starting at 15 weeks (started Tessa at 16 weeks when that was OK!) and so haven't been giving him much at a time. I either need to bite the bullet and feed him properly or go back to just milk but I keep dithering!

Tex - Tessa loves Doodle Do as well and now I will have the damn tune in my head all night! Its even more irritating on the website if you are interested Grin

Golden - no mags here either. I'm much more of a book reader but need something that isn't too taxing at the moment. I have a tendency to get very involved and stay up till 3am without realising it so am back on the Terry Pratchets again!

Nova - LOL at pushy mums, it just gets worse so better get used to it, especially if you are going for private education! Maybe a selection of MN put-downs, anyone oblige? Still too knackered to think much but I'll work on it!

Diege - Size 8 at 24 weeks, now that is impressive! I was one size up from normal at 17 weeks when I got married last year. I had found a lovely dress in Monsoon but it was too fitted and although I didn't want to hide the bump I wasn't keen on shoving it in people's faces either Grin Ended up with a beautiful green silk dress from Country Casuals of all places, somewhere I had never shopped in before as I thought it was all twinset and pearls Grin
Congratulations on the wedding Yorkshirepud. What have you got planned?

Beartime - just while I think about it, I have a bone to pick with you! All the 'getting on a bit' comments about your DH made me think he must be around mid-50's. Please repeat after me "43 is NOT old, 43 is NOT old..............................." Grin

Busy - love the Pod thing! However if it doesn't work out a buggy board fits onto a Jane no problem.

Right, more sleep required.
Night night

beartime · 03/03/2006 22:22

Diege - your only addiction....?????? What about Mumsnet? Wink I don't do a 10.30pm feed anymore. But I did stop changing his nappy in the middle of it toward the end as it was usually not very wet, and I had reduced his feed to only about 10-20mins total, so it wasn't enough for him to get sleepy again afterwards and it meant it was hard to put him to bed. So I started putting a booster in at 6pm so he'd go thru till the morning - apart from when we came back from the USA and he got his poo schedule messed up and started pooing at 10.30pm!!

Nova - I ban Caleb from watching TV cos I read the American Association of Paediatrics says they shouldn't watch it b4 2yrs old as its too much for their little brains :)

BAM - tried to sneak a look at practical parenting today but they were all sealed - miserly people! I'm going to write my e-mail in here for you to add me to the yahoo group cos you have to pay for CAT now - just take the 'at' out - rhodaatf2s.com - there now you all know my real name Grin I'm dying to see all the pics and add some! So pleeeeese could you add me - thank you!

BoB actually Tiktok -bf counselor on MN- has said a lot of times that the charts aren't based on formula fed but a mixture of everythign - only in uSA they are based on formula fed. So they are s'posed to be OK - personally I think its more of an individual baby thing. Mine is excl. bf and has stuck to the 50th centile the whole way, so it can be OK, but babies are different and I'm sure grow at diff. rates.

Golden - I don't read any mags either but loads of books - my fav thing to do while bfing Grin

Actually I've been wondering - when you guys meet up do you call eachother by your nicknames or real names? It could get quite funny calling out to someone in Starbucks - 'hi Yorkshire Puddling' etc...

Yorkshire - depends on who you have make it. The lady who's making my bridesmaid dress for April hasn't even got my measurements yet!

I've finally got the blues too - I keep thinking maybe my period's going to start cos I'm depressed! It's so hard to get everything done - cooking, cleaning, feeding, changing, laundry etc. and I feel so tired Sad Just dragged my feet round Tesco to do the shopping - I'm sure I've forgotten to get loads of stuff and will have to go back tomorrow! But my bundle of joy is still a bundle of joy Grin he seems to be developing so fast - he's standing on DH's lap for ages now, and actually enjoys being on his tummy for about 10 mins.

beartime · 03/03/2006 22:28

Tessasmum -crossed posts - hee hee - didn't mean it quite like that!! I meant he's getting on a bit in terms of having babies, not that he's old - 43 is not old (there are you happy now Grin). He actually looks v. young, but wonders how he will manage with kids around for much longer. So... are you 43 then?? BTW with the growth spurt - why don't you feed him more in the day? That's what they say to do usually. When Caleb started waking up, I went back to 3hrly feeds for a couple of days then he was fine and I went back to the old routine again.

edodgy · 03/03/2006 22:30

Hi thought it was about time I joined you. I've been lurking for ages Blush My ds Jack was born on 25th Nov and I also have a dd who will be 3 at the beginning of April.

yorkshirepuddling · 03/03/2006 23:27

Hi Edodgy and Jack - Welcome - I'm new to this group too after previously lurked but they've made me feel like i've been here all along.

edodgy · 03/03/2006 23:33

Hi yorkshirepudding thanks for the welcome does that name mean you live in Yorkshire? I only ask because we're hoping to move to holmfirth by the summer.

goldenoldie · 03/03/2006 23:42

Yorkshire - ooooooooo, I love a good wedding. Hope you keep us all upto date on your plans/preparations. Will you get married in the UK or run away and do it in the sunshire somewhere?

Diege - now I know you are making it up - size 8 too BIG at 24 weeks pg?????

Yes - I admit it. I prop bottles, sorry, bad mummy.............

Brownie - Love CSI. The Las Vegas and Miami ones. Don't think the New York ones are anywhere near as good. Just noticed our local library has whole series sets you can loan for the week.

Anyone else love ER and House?

Re: TV time - usually only after 4pm to see deal, no deal. Then it is on all evening. Before 4pm, unless I catch the baby channel, it is off. Strictly radio 4 during the day, and radio 3 for DTs morning nap.

Beartime - Blimey, if you think 43 is getting on a bit for having babies, what does that mean for my DH - he is 49!!! Actually - he agrees with you!

babyonboard · 03/03/2006 23:42
