A new thread for us and our little 2, 3 and very nearly 4 month olds, where is the time going??!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Rodeo · 02/03/2006 22:08

Evening :)

Just got back from swimming, managed to do 25 lengths in 30 mins - that's rubbish isn't it! All I could think about was the crisps and choc in the vending machines on my way out!

I can't believe you Londoners are having to put their names down for schools already! I'm so disorganised I'd end up having to home teach - and that would be no good at all, my children would all end up simpletons Grin

Must admit I love my mags, get Heat and Grazia every week, plus a few monthlies! A friend of my SIL was in OK last week, she was the Angelina Jolie lookalike. The cow. Not got PP yet though BAM!!

Did anyone see The Daily Show with Jon Stewart tonight, had a v.funny bit about a dad and his baby....

Right, off to dip my Dairy Milk in my cup of tea, I'll deffo have to catch up with you all tomorrow - I was telling dp yesterday how much I enjoy coming on here and reading all your news, you're all lovely :) (Gosh I think that chlorine must have affected me)

BAM the buggy pod looks really cool!! I'm excited for you!

Diege - Hope you get better soon, our local school is great too. Bella came home today and flopped on the sofa sighing 'I love Mrs Galley' - her teacher. 'Yes Bella I know you do' Grin

LOL at the popping poppers poo! J regularly has the 'up the back and into vest' poos, yuk. The tricky part is getting the pooey vest off without getting any in her hair, have just about perfected the roll inwards techique!

You're right about Enthusia, she's not been on for ages. Probably rushing around like a blue-ar*ed fly, you know what she's like!

tex111 · 03/03/2006 02:41

POsting this at 2.40am to say Tobes is vomiting again so looks like I won't be in Costa this morning. The lurgy is back. Sad

beartime · 03/03/2006 07:15

Rodeo I can't even do 2 lengths in 30 mins Sad
Tex you poor thing, hope it improves soon.

beartime · 03/03/2006 07:17

Oh I've got a question - do you change or feed the baby first thing in the morning? I always feed first & when I've tried changing first he's cried, but ATM holdng a stinky poooey baby with a leak down his back - def. not too nice 4 me!

goldenoldie · 03/03/2006 08:18

Bear - I change then feed, but mine don't kick up a fuss in the morning and are quite placid. If they were agitated I would def. feed first.

Diege · 03/03/2006 08:56

Morning! Lurgiville here too, so having to postpone my shopping trip out too Sad. DH was like, are you sure you're not just talking it up, you don't look too ill Angry hmmm, if it was work, perhaps, but a shopping trip!!!!! Still, do feel guilty when I have to cancel things Blush.
RODEO: your swimming sounds like Olympic standard to me! How do you get motivated in the evenings to exercise? In awe.... Bet no-one can beat my magazine addiction: heat, now, grazia, PP, Junior (baby one and toddler one), Marie Claire, Happy, Red, Eve, OK!, Slimming World (ahem..), Still, my only addiction I think. Gosh, feel bad having writtem them all down, daren't add them up to see how much I spend Blush.
So cold this morning; think it may be a day to stay in with hot drinks, daytine tv (anyone else love 'Monk' Blush, and err, mags!!
Speak later,
Diege Smile.
PS: Bear, I always change after first feed, though would change first if poo fest as you describe Grin. Do you still change nappy before 10.30pm feed as Gina suggests?

LilJ · 03/03/2006 09:29

Just a quick message to say GoldenOldie - thanks for a great afternoon! Nathaniel wailed all the way home, but go home just in time to see the latest disaster on Deal or No Deal. I've stolen your bottlefeeding technique so I can write a few emails - genius it is!

JenJam - it was great to see you as well. I realised after you got off the bus that I may have made it seem so easy to deal with my work situation. Now that it is over and dealt with, it has been a relief, but the decision to act was a hard one and not one I would necessarily recommend - I certainly am not looking forward to job-hunting any time soon.

I think any first time mum struggles with returning to work and your situation sounds like it may be difficult to find the right mix, but I'd say give them a chance to make it right for you before you stress out about it or take any action. They may not have children and be completely ignorant about the stresses of caring for a child, but I do believe that you'll find a way to juggle their requirements with yours.

Well got to go get chubby N weighed.

J xx

tex111 · 03/03/2006 10:01

Just off to docs but had to post to Diege. Substitute Easy Living for Red and add Vogue, American Vogue and American mags People, Us and House & Garden when I find them. Perhaps we should start a support group - Magazine Readers Anonymous. Smile And I'm sure your extensions are much nicer than Jordan's!

Diege · 03/03/2006 10:13

Oh yeah, forgot about Vogue Blush!! So that's me,you TEX, RODEO and NOVA for the 10 mags, I mean 10 steps recovery programme Grin. Any other mag hags out there? re my extensions...looking a bit Jodie Marsh ropy at the moment; needing to get them out and have a rest for a while; must be the only mummy who screams 'get off my bonds!!!' when she grabs at my hair!!! Hopefully bit better than the Jordan's (I'm dark at least!); like her new look BTW, as seen in OK!... Blush.

Candiemom · 03/03/2006 10:22

Morning gals,

I do change first and then feed, but it's only because she doens't scream the house down when she wakes in the morning -- if she did I'd definately feed first. You could try one of those disposable change mats for your lap.

Golden and nova -- so what is the big secret about schools in London? Why is there no list of the best of the best ones (private)? Tips welcome. Will keep secret if you don't mind sharing.

Bob2112 thanks for the babydan tip -- will order today!

We are not rolling over yet -- I thought there might have been one a few weeks ago but since everything on a slant here because of reflux it could just have been gravity.

speaking to work today about return date --ugh. miss this time last year when blissful ignorance about to give way to most wonderful shock of the century.

Candiemom · 03/03/2006 12:18

My guilty pleasures at my house are Gracia, Heat, Now and the National Enquirer. I miss Entertainment Weekly but they only have it in some Borders.

Any DVD fans out there?

babyonboard · 03/03/2006 13:11

aw tex..this has been going on for ages! hope you get some proper care at the g.p this time!do you think they may have the same bug and have been passing it bck to each other?hope you're coping with it too an not feling too housebound.

candiemom - i got a lot of information on schools by asking the women at clinic with toddlers, as they have had time to do a lot more research!
made bit of fool of myself though and called 'prendergast' school, only to find out it's a girls school..hahahaa
there i was trying to make myself feel like a proactive and knowledegeable parent.
dulwich collge and prep have an excellent reputation and it's a lovely area too (but pricy as result!)they have open days for the 3-7 years on friday mornings.
we're also liking the look of blackheath prep school.
it's so crazy sorting this stuff out already..but my mum says she registered me at my school when i was two weks old..hehehe
thing is we don't even know where we'll be living. what hppens if you move to a new area when the child is aged 3? do you just have to take whatever is left?

re- magazines..i've been really good with them lately and have been trying to read books instead after i realised i was spending about £20 a week on them! still have 'junior ' and 'vogue' on subscription..and dp's fhm and various music mags..lol..

we are huge dvd fans here! we tend to watch a film most nights..particularly liking almodovar at the moment..and watched 'the machinist' last night..very very good movie, but a bit creepy.
we love dvd boxsets too..the sopranos..oz etc..
I'm actually running on two hours sleep and a lot of coffee today after staying up watching the 'peep show' series last night..oh my god it's funny.
fortunatly i'm babylesss as my aunt is in london and picked up oskar for a day out at leeds castle...must try to get a nap in!

lilj - please share this genius bottlefeeding tip!?

yorkshirepuddling..yes i do know it! dp's dad lives in beighton.

bob2..aw love the phone imitating story .i lovb how oskar watches my mouth rather than eys when i'm talking to him and tries to copy!

we had our first roll this week..followed by an almighty shreik when he realised he was stranded on his stomach (another one whos not a fan of tummy time!) he's also getting much better nd stying upright whn proppe..though once h discovers his feet he invitably topples himself forwrd..lol
oh..and so proud..but not sure if it was afluke..he passed his rattle from one hand to the other several times yesterday! woo

beks, londoner (and hopefully tex!) looking forwrd to the park...and cake!lol... do we have a back up in case of rain or will we just postpone?
nova- lmao @ 'threat of affair with Dp;low'
did you have words after her lengthy outing the other day?

hi to anyone i've missed..if anyones still reading this mssive post..lol.
i blame the coffee for all that blahing!

babyonboard · 03/03/2006 13:28

ooh and..O has suddenly become really 'jumpy' in his sleep, he used to sleep soundly through anything, but last night every time i turned a magazine page he did a startled little jump. same when the phone rings etc.
do they start sleeping more lightly at this age or something?

beks..hhheeehee at 'dragon receptionist' i'm sure it's in the job description for g.ps rceptionists..they are all sulky cows.
diege..lol at the 'roll ' method for pooey vests..must admit i once cut a particularly dirty one of off him

and grr at dp..i asked him to buy some wipes on the way home and he came back with several packs of 'sainsburys basics' '''but they were only 40p each'' !!!!?????
they feel like that rubbish 'tracing paper' loo roll at school...hehehee

novadandypowder · 03/03/2006 15:22

I always do this, I make a mental note of all the questions as I read and then when I get to write I forget everything! Lets see...

Rolling over: Thought Natalie was going to get there a couple of weeks ago as she was thrusting around and getting onto her side, but she's lost interest in it and doesn't do that anymore. Makes life easier for me though Wink

No teething either..

Got her weighed today and it seems like she's finally settling down, she's 18lb 1oz (8.2kg). Means DH has to get a move on with getting a new car though as her car seat only goes up to 9kgs/20lbs.

DH does get paid to DJ, but it's not his profession. It's the perfect balance, he plays the music I want to dance to.

There was a bit of a pushy mum at Gymboree today (we get them there from time to time) she kept standing her 4 month old up on his feet, and seemed quite keen for people to see how advanced her boy was. There was another one a few weeks back who insisted on walking her 6 month old around. It makes me really mad - they're only babies for a short time so why push them to do things before they're ready? Natalie's a bit of a lazy bugger, but she'll get there eventually.

A question - how much tv does your lo get exposed to? Is it always on in your house or do you turn it off for feeding etc..? if you don't have tv on, do you have the radio on instead?
and finally, if you do have tv on is it kids tv or adult stuff?

I can't remember who asked about Natalie sleeping in her chair, but she doesn't, she only sleeps on me during the day, or in her buggy if we're out and about.

novadandypowder · 03/03/2006 15:22

I'll just add for the newbies - Natalie is 20weeks Grin

hamster · 03/03/2006 15:31

Hi ladies, thought I'd stick my head in between feeds and nappy changing!

I feel like I've lost touch completely with everyone on here Sad
I feel bad as I only ever have time to read the first few posts I come to.
Anyway, we're all doing well. Euan was 4 months old yesterday. He is trying to sit up, can hold a rattle(and try to eat it!) Very very chirpy indeed, and laughs a lot.
I can't help but notice, a few babies on here are rolling-great! I can wait for that I think, I already have an 18 month old to chase after!

Has anyone started weaning?
I've tried Euan on a small amount of baby rice as 7oz bottles were disapeering freakishly quickly.

Anyway, hopefully pop on soon. Hope you're all well, babies too
xx

babyonboard · 03/03/2006 15:44

nova - i alwys have either radio or cd's on..not a fan of silence! lol..
mainly watch tv in the evenings so O is in bd then.

I sometims put him in his chair in front of 'baby tv' when he's being demnding and I need a shower etc.

hi hamster..no weaning here..was tempted to try early but realised that was more my impatiance and excitement than any need to, so we will hold out for as long as we can.
he has had baby juice a couple of times though.

novadandypowder · 03/03/2006 16:16

oh dear i've just shouted at the builders who are working on the house next door after they've asked me to move our car AGAIN, as the people who live next door have buggered off with their car parked outside without leaving the keys with the builders.

If i've annoyed them they may well start making EVEN MORE noise (which TBH would be quite difficult)

novadandypowder · 03/03/2006 16:43

added a few new pics to the yahoo group Grin

BEKsmum · 03/03/2006 17:42

Afternoon girls

Karma nice to speak to you today, will definitely call you for a proper chat on monday, hope you had a nice time at your friends this afternoon.

Tex sorry to hear Rosie is still so poorly, keep smiling you're doing great as it must be driving you nuts now - ring me if there is anything you need.

Nova lol at shouting at the builders - really can't see you as the shrieking shrew type! My new saying when people make lots of noise around Thomas when he's sleeping is "Wake him, you keep him" Smile
In answer to your telly question, the tv is always on in our house from 1st thing in the morning till last thing at night. I allow Ben to have kids tv on during the day and then from dinner time onwards it's adult tv. I know they say it can slow down childrens speach etc but to be honest Ben's vocabulary far out strips his peers and because it is on all the time he hardly watches it, it is just there if he wants it, where as a lot of his friends who aren't allowed the telly on much are glued to it when it is on.

Bob if the weather is pants next week then I think we'll just have to escape to the park cafe or Zero Degrees again - so lets all pray for rain shall we Grin
Have to take it back about the dragon receptionists, they kept an eye on Ben for me while Thomas had his jabs this afternoon and complimented me on having wonderfully well behaved boys [proud preening mummy emoticon]

Hamster nice to see you back, you've been missing far too long. Euan sounds adorable, don't forget to post some pictures on the yahoo site so we can coo over him too! I've been giving Thomas solids for a couple of weeks now and he loves it!

For you girls who were admitting to being magazine fanatics, Ben's little friend from nursery is the cover girl on Junior this month, she's gorgeous but apparently is already getting married to one of Ben's other mates who's a year olderGrin

On the magazine front I buy Junior obviously and then it's the house magazines that are my down fall, I hadn't bought any for ages but now we are planning on converting the loft I've got an excuse to buy them all again. I also love a sneaky copy of OK etc every so often!

Right dh has just informed me he hasn't left work yet so now need to find something to give Ben for dinner and Thomas is shrieking in the background, although he's allowed today with sore legs!

Blimey, sorry huge post hello to anyone i've missed, speak to you later Beks

tex111 · 03/03/2006 17:43

Well, saw doc and she was very good. Tobes still has a virus and Rosie has been referred to a consultant for her tummy problems. She's also on soy formula now and weaning has been ceased until further notice. Her jabs have also been put on hold until this is sorted out. We're supposed to see the pediatrician some time next week. Just waiting to hear. Knowing how these things work it'll probably be Thursday right when I should be at the park eating cake! Smile

Hamster! Good to hear from you and glad you guys are doing well.

Have only been able to skim the thread but caught the following bits...

For pooey vests I just pull them down rather than over the head. I remember when someone pointed out that the envelope neck stretches enough to do this. It was like a little miracle!

TV - on constantly. Usually for Toby's benefit so CBeebies though he seems to just like the background noise and rarely sits to watch anything. Doodle Do is a favourite at the moment and has one of those theme songs that you just cannot get out of your head. Aaargh!

Rosie hasn't rolled over yet though she does try sometimes. She has started paying attention to her toys though and was very keen on a busybox at the doc's this morning. Everything goes straight to her mouth and Tobes and a lady in reception found it very funny when Rosie kept launching herself at the busybox with her mouth wide open.

Tobes is into nursery rhymes at the moment and I was having a look on Amazon for him. I found the cutest book called 'This Little Piggy Went to Prada'. Apparently it's modern nursery rhymes for modern mummies. So funny. Think I'll be buying copies for myself and my best friend.

BoB, so glad you got my messages. DH thought I was crazy sending an email at 2am but I was so afriad I wouldn't reach you before you left for Costa.

Candiemom, I bought a copy of the Good Schools Guide which has been useful. It covers the whole country though so there's a lot of info that I didn't need but it was interesting to read about other schools and compare.

I think I must've missed the yahoo groups. How are they accessed? Nova, I'd love to see some pics! Just got Rosie's first portrait back and they turned out really lovely. I'll check out the yahoo thing and see if I can post some too.

OK, off to do some laundry. Stripping all the beds and spraying everything with antibac Febreze. Must get rid of all these illness germs! Time to turn into mad cleaning mommy. DH won't recognise me. Grin

yorkshirepuddling · 03/03/2006 18:08

nova - the tv or music is always on in our house. Holly likes to lay on our bed and watch the pictures - its all adult tv as well.

I've enrolled Holly in our local gymboree as another thing to do, as our baby massage classes will have finished by then and it'll take me to when I have to go back to work, it seems like its all coming to an end so quickly and I am definately not looking forward to going back to work and leaving Holly with someone else.

Have any of yours had any problems with sleep after jabs, Holly had her jabs on Wednesday and she sleep poorly on Wednesday night but last night she was still awake at 4.30AM?!?!?! - the only thing different is the jabs, and they have made her rather grumpy.

The health visitor was annoying as well - Holly drinks 4-5 6oz bottles each day - she has dropped one as she sleeps through the night - she has dropped from the 91st centile to the 75th centile and the hv has said that I should be trying to get more milk into her - she rarely finishes her bottles as it is and eats every 4 hours unless asleep - how much do your have?, should I really be trying to get another bottle in. Sorry first time, know thing - listen to the hv mum alert. Holly is 13 weeks and seemed to be drinking more that the other babies at massage class but this was the only small point of reference that I had.

Sorry if this didn't make sense typing with one hand and on the phone booking bridal fittings with the other - apparently i've left it too late to try on wedding dresses - should obviously have done it wilst 8 months pregnant arghhhhhhh.

novadandypowder · 03/03/2006 19:18

when are you getting married yorkshirepudding? very exciting Grin

Natalie has 4 x 8oz feeds a day and has been since 18wks. Before that it was 5 x 7oz + 2 x 3-4oz at night, and before we moved onto hungry baby formula at 12wks she was on 9 x 4-5oz feeds. Please try not to worry too much, I know how much trouble those centile charts can cause! If your baby was hungry she would tell you, and if she's thriving you should be fine. IMO being on the 75th centile is still above average Smile. I was told to watch Nats weight as she was gaining too fast - proof you cannot win.

Sleep problems after jabs for Nat was usually on the night after, but it sounds reasonable for it to still be effecting your lo on the second night. Do you give Calpol?

babyonboard · 03/03/2006 19:34

i agree nova- in fact i read an interesting thing in a magazine the other day. apparantly the centile charts are based on studies of formula fed babies, so don't apply to breastfed, who naturally gain weight at a slower rate.
So when they stress out mums who are worried breastfeding isn't providing enough for the babies and end up topping up with formula it's based on misrepresentative statistics.
I've seen women crying at the clinic before...for me i just take what they say with a pinch of salt..i know my baby best and I know he's fine...

congrats on the wedding Yorkshire! woooh
