basically follow on milk is less processed from cow's milk than first stage. As the babies are older they can tolerate it better, but first stage has the required iron in it. Excess iron will just be passed through the baby.

fleecy I don't make purees either, but also never steamed veg or used a baby jar/pouch. Admittedly I haven't really started yet with DS but really don't see myself changing.

strawberry good luck on monday.

I'm off to my mum's for the week without DH not sure if it will be a help or hindrance as you can't lump two kids onto someone, but the company will be good and will be nice dealing with one at a time. DS is really smiley and giggly if you can spend proper time with him. DD is quite hands on again atm, very active

bub remember that a baby's size will determine their calorific needs as well, but generally I wouldn't worry about them not having enough, especially if they have been OK up to now.

PenguinArmy · 23/03/2012 21:32

sorry sch meant to say glad you are feeling better in yourself.

MamaMaiasaura · 23/03/2012 21:46

Bub - it's called love and cuddles, we get cd of the songs on week 3. We were told to use one sign in a sentence rather than loads in one sentence. To concentrate a on 2 or 3 for first week, then adding more in. So sounds similar with number of signs. I'm going to concentrate on happy, dinner/food and maybe milk and not sure what else :)

Jnice · 23/03/2012 22:32

Back from our mini- break and I'm happy to say that crying was not an issue like it is on short car trips - timed well with naps and feeds. So pleased to have a baby that travels well! I spent a lot in the baby bjorn travel cot, he was happy in it and it literally takes 10 seconds to put up. I love it!

BB3 · 23/03/2012 22:35

Evening ladies

Crikey I can't keep up at the moment, thought I'd got over the baby brain but I think it's getting worse as the girls get over

Sorry if I forget anyone (I'm on my phone so trying to remember)...

Scheh, so glad things seem to be improving, do you know when you think you'll be ready to come home? The girls are in their own room, had them back in with us for a few nights post new york because I wanted the snuggles so hoping they'll start sleeping a bit better now they are in there permanently. Oh and enjoy the biscuits!

Sassy, keeping everything crossed for dp. How is your sil doing now?

Fuzzy, metanium is really good although don't put it in neat as it's a bugger to get off and stains everything it touches! I mix it with Vaseline (50:50) and it's easier to apply, clean off and wash out. I mr ally start with sudocream or Vaseline as a barrier then if it gets any worse move onto metanium and then if that's not doing the trick I have some caneston hq cream that dr prescribed the girls when they were much younger that is like magic cream!

Strawberry, sorry I forgot when tour next hospital appointment was / is but hope it goes ok.

Well done on signing classes etc or not done any of those things with the kids Blush I just try and make sure I spend some time with them one on one each day but am failing miserably with my clinging 2 year old.

So we have full on commando crawling from Ayse-Rose, she managed to get across the living room floor today pushing her bum up in the air and shuffling forward on her toes. Edie-May isn't quite there yet but she is no linger protesting when being left to play on her tummy! Both girls love the jumparoo and weaning is going well (which is an achievement considering two weeks ago Edie wouldn't open her mouth!) they are enjoying breakfast (a muesli or baby porridge) fruit purée for lunch and a bowl of mush for lunch. I use a mix of home cooked stuff and organic purée pita (especially fruit) as I can't be bothered to sit steaming pears down Blush.

I decided tonight I am officially old! It's friday night (i remember a time id be out until the early hours dancing and drinking) but tonight I spent 90 minutes ironing in the kitchen once the kids were in bed listening to Lionel Richie live on BBC radio 2 (and actually bopping along at some points) I then hoovered and tidied the living room, dusted our bedroom and changed the bedding, showered and am in bed drinking a cup of tea. I'll be wearing slippers next!

Hope everyone is having a more exciting evening!! Xxx

PenguinArmy · 23/03/2012 22:35

wahoo for Jnice and family doing well on trip. We have found the same generally with longer journey's. Although I am still worried about the 2.5 hr journey tomorrow Blush Did an hour's journey last week and he only slept for 30 mins each way.

BB3 · 23/03/2012 22:37

Mr ally clearly meant normally and it should have said my baby brain is getting worse as the girls get older!

BB3 · 23/03/2012 22:37

Jnice glad it went well. PA good luck tomorrow x

PenguinArmy · 23/03/2012 22:43

thanks BB3

there was also a time when we were just getting ready to go out at around 9pm instead of getting ready for bed.

second metanium (had meant to mention it), although we use it neat. In fact even when DS's skin is OK we can't revert to sudacrem, it does nothing for him and starts getting worse again. Although his is less nappy rash from soiled contents and more eczema linked.

bilblio · 23/03/2012 23:07

Wow you lot have been chatty again
BB3 I'm amazed at commando crawling. Seth isn't even rolling yet. I'm blaming the fact he's so big, he's got a lot of weight to try to shift. :o

fuzzy another recommendation for metanium. We use it neat, but sparingly. You need to be sparing with all nappy creams really. If you cake them on then the cream just goes on the nappy and stops the nappy absorbing the wee. But yes, sore bum and grizzliness sounds like teeth. Seth's bum was sore for about 3 weeks until his teeth came through. I put lavender essential oil in baths too. Very calming and good for healing.

I've been sociable this evening! My friend was having a house warming, I only got her text as 6pm, and it started at 7pm. I decided to go anyway and take the kids even if it was just for an hour. My friend has 2 boys a bit older than DD, so there were other kids too. Seth was very chilled and DD found some lego so she was happy so we stayed till 9:30.

It was so nice to be out and seeing people in the evening. I only met them when I was pregnant, I used to go to the pub with them once a week so it was lovely catching up.

I think I'm nesting again too. Today I've filled 8 bags with books for the charity shop, filled a crate with videos to get rid of (including all my Buffy videos which I also have on DVD) and sorted out the cutlery drawers. We've been here 6.5 years and it's always bugged me that we have a drawer with everything just thrown in, they're too slim for any trays. I've finally made cardboard separators for the cutlery and we have a 2nd drawers for all the other random bits like tin openers.
It took me 10 minutes.... but I've put it off for 6.5 years!!!!

BB3 · 24/03/2012 05:54

Bilblio - the girls don't roll (unless you call falling sideways when they are up on their arms rolling), Edie attempts it's but decides it's too hard once she's on her side! Wink

Glad you had a good night x

FuzzzyDuck · 24/03/2012 08:08

Morning all Smile

Thanks for all nappy cream advice! Metanium is the yellow stuff right? I remember a few kids in nursery using it. I found a tube of bepanthen that I forgot I had so I've put that on this morning. Her wee bum isn't looking as bad thankfully. I changed her nappy at midnight when I was heading to bed. Bit of a faff as I was trying not to wake her but I did so done it quick then she was settled again with dummy. She's not half getting about her cot when she wakes in the morning! Was wrong way and all her teddies were thrown around. She's having a party at 6am and thinks I dont know about it...Grin. Def moving her through to her own room when we get back from London. Off there next sat till wed so after that. Fixed a few things in her room yesterday that I had been meaning to do, so will just need to move cot back and that's her. Scary but I think it's now time. Will miss her tho!!
bilb sounds like you had a lovely night! Was great that you could take kids too
penguin enjoy your week. Hope car journey goes well
bb3 yes I find myself doing things now and thinkin 'well I am a mother, time to be grown up!'. I'm off out for day/night with my 2 best friends and I'm sure I won't last the pace. By 8pm ill have drank enough and just want home to my bed Blush. I remember in my teens not going out till after 9pm and them getting home sometime around 5am then work at 9am. Oh the days!!!

CheshireDing · 24/03/2012 08:41

Just wondering what you feed for brekkie Mama are part of BLW? P has fruit but what sort of cereals do you use, does it need to be specific baby cereals?

I am going to have a look what the shops have but just wondered. In my head it seems odd to be giving her some baby foods - might just be me being odd though Grin

Will come back later and post properly.

Milk intake today almost back to normal phew! Grin!! Thanks everyone for the advice, he was taking around 24oz anyway, so still enough I think. He is very unsettled tonight, I think its his tummy, not sure if his reflux has started playing up again now we're on solids Confused. In other news he is rolling from back to front and other way around, it's getting harder and harder to even change his nappy from all the wriggling and turning :)! Fuzzy L also has a party in the morning and although he sleeps on his tummy, he turns on his back and goes to get the teddy from the top of the bed. The other morning he had actually managed to switch the nightlight on the AngelCare monitor which I keep at the top of his cot. Time to move some things away from his cot I think!!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 25/03/2012 19:05

I assume everyone's out enjoying the sunshine! Grin

LittlePebble · 25/03/2012 19:50

Grin quietest thread has ever been!

Not sure I can cope with clocks going forward....

FuzzzyDuck · 25/03/2012 21:24

Hello! Yes I guess everyone was out enjoying the sunshine!!! Lovely day here Smile. Yes the hour has knocked us out a bit to. Finally settled into bed at 8.30pm.

Bubalie · 25/03/2012 21:37

I managed to get L to go to sleep his normal time Grin! Was worried about this hour and how it's going to work, but so far so good, still asleep at 7pm :). Hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine today!

Jnice · 26/03/2012 03:01

Hello all! Sleep here is back to horribly normal. Up every 2 hrs at night and 20 minute naps. The bizarre thing is he's pretty cheerful and doesn't act terribly tired.

I do though!

Mum arrives tomorrow to save me Smile

Weather over there sounds beautiful! You lucky things. We have had a lot of sun but pretty cold still in the shade and wind.

CheshireDing · 26/03/2012 05:52

Jnice our sleep has gone rubbish again too. I am hacked off and tired.

P has woke up probably ever 2 hours-ish the last few nights and I have not been having the caffeine (bloody need it though).

What does anyone think of this....
P woke at 5am but she wasn't actually crying, mostly it was leg banging and intermittant whittering - which wasn't even loud enough to come through the monitor, just the first few lights to show up. DH bought a bear last week that plays a tune when she stirs, so because she kept banging the cot this bloody tune kept coming through the monitor. After 20 minutes we had a fall out and he has gone to sleep on the settee (because the other bedrooms are still full of junk), DH thinks she is hungry because that's why she is still awake. I don't because when I picked her up (after DH saying) she didn't head butt me she was just looking around. He thinks 20 minutes is too long but I tried to say she will never learn to go back to sleep if we rush in (his answer is after 20 minutes she is not going to settle).

I feel bad because he is sleeping downstairs.Plus in the end I had to go in and feed because we had been in twiced and he went in to unhook the stupid bollocky bear so she was then wide awake.

Is 20 minutes too long? She was absolutely not crying.

Tonight I am back sleeping in the nursery and using the music thing we press ourselves, which only goes for 5 minutes. The bear can bog off :(

Penelope1980 · 26/03/2012 06:01

Hello again! So sorry about the lack of posts - I went on holiday again, quite a long one this time. All done with the holidays for this summer though I think! In terms of seasons, I am really happy with the time of year I had a baby Smile Hope all is well with you all - just skim read a few of the posts, am glad to see that other people have clingy babies - A is so clingy at present, I think it hurts DH's feelings. He got more unsettled this last holiday as well (was fine all the times before that) so I think we need a wee while of boring life. I'll put some pics on the FB page anyway ..

Penelope1980 · 26/03/2012 06:05

I was also wondering - how do you know when to give babies more food? I have A on 2 teaspoons of pureed fruit a day but have no idea if I should give him more, and by more do you add another feed a day, or more food each feed? This weaning business is complicated! (or maybe am just over thinking it). Also I am crazy broody at present, anyone else? I think it's just because A is so cute at present
