Hope you managed to get some sleep Jnice

Shock at MIL ed!

sassy34264 · 13/04/2012 13:45

well pink the house is constantly a mess and im still in said nightie- might be a clue in there! ha.

all 4 of my kids now sleep through the night- think thats the real key. id be seriously requiring psychiatric help otherwise! (still up for debate though)

It's just gone 6am here. Leo was up to feed 5 times last night then up for the day at 5am. This is why I am getting psychiatric help Grin

He has so many sleep issues I don't know where to start. Naps are non existent. Thank goodness I went to bed at 7.30pm last night.

So today I will start on the naps I suppose. If anyone has any advice I'm all ears!

eng I'm glad you got the helmet Smile

Leo is another one who wears hand me down sleepsuits all dayBlush

sassy34264 · 13/04/2012 14:51

Blush jnice sorry, there i go again with my hobnail boots!

eva has 2 naps a day. i know when she needs one cos she will lie down on me and stick her thumb in her mouth.
i would try putting him down 3 hours after he last woke up. its so hard to give advice, cos i dont know your baby and he may be tired before 3 hours or longer than 3 hours. but i think thats a good time, as 2 hours seems a bit quick and 4 hours a bit much. put him in his cot and do cc or pupd. and more importantly dont give up if it takes a few days. it might be horrendous at first. i wouldnt give up on the 1st day. just keep going into him if you cant stand it, but keep walking out too. i wouldnt let him fall asleep in my arms either. just pick up, soothe, put down, walk out.
good luck. x

Oh sassy don't worry Wink it's so true! No sleep drives you nuts!

Jnice · 13/04/2012 15:43

Ugh, that was awful. 30 mins of soul destroying screaming, picked up maybe 15 times and then crashed. Sitting by him to see what happens next.

I hate this!

Sad
sassy34264 · 13/04/2012 16:08

it is awful, but you have to remember that he doesnt know what is best for him. and not having naps and waking up numerous times a night is not best for him or you

you can do it. it doesnt last that long and he will be happier for it, and he will have an happier mummy.

keep going. im here if you want to rant/cry. xxx

Thanks sassy - he has now slept longer than it took for him to fall asleep so I feel more positive. I plan to do this for as many naps as possible but leave nights for now. We live in an apartment with very thin walls and our neighbors bedroom is next to ours.

What do you do about going out? I don't want to be tied to home but also want to give him some consistency. Getting back every couple of hours for his nap will be hard.

strawberrypenguin · 13/04/2012 16:34

jnice sounds like your having a tough time at the moment. W is actually a pretty good sleeper but I think that's more him than anything I do. For his daytime naps he isn't really consistent about time it depends on what we've been doing, if we're at home and he starts rubbing his eyes (very cute) I put him in his bouncy chair with his dummy and a blanket and he tends to fall asleep on a normal day. If he's feeling crappy he likes to nap on me though. Does L have tired signs? W gets red under his eyes then starts rubbing them. At bedtime this is usually accompanied by getting grumpy but he grumps less before naps. When we put him to bed we do bottle, bath, story (same one everyday, he loves it now and hits the pictures) bed. In his cot we have a frog that has a heartbeat sound and projects stars onto the walls, he often watches these as he drifts off I'll see if I can find a link for you. Sorry that's a bit mammoth! Hope things improve for you soon.

ed I'm sure M looked very cute, how rude of your mil.

eng how did the helmet fitting go?

sassy34264 · 13/04/2012 16:36

you might find that if you wont need to do it at bedtime. if you do it twice a day today and tomorrow, he might cotton on to the fact that cot means sleep.
if you put him to bed before 10ish, wouldnt they still be awake? if you mean about him waking in the night, then i see your point, but you might confuse him and it might take longer. can you not just explain to the neighbours? it probably wont take 3 nights if you are consistent. id be surprised if it did.

going out is not something that happens much in this house! ha.
but i would try to loosesly fit around a routine. so if she fell asleep in the car 1 hour before she would normally have a nap, perhaps give her a nap in the afternoon (if it was a morning outing) 30 mins earlier than normal, then shes only 30 mins out for bed. or put her to bed (if it was a afternoon outing) 30 mins earlier so she's not massively out.

or just adjust it to everytime they have a nap, check the time they wake up and then put them down 3 hours after, so you are not tied to an exact time every day. iyswim. so then it doesnt matter if you go out.

Light]] this is the one we have jnice W really likes it, we got it with vouchers my workmates gave me when he was born and I'm so glad we did really helps sooth him at bedtime. The noise sloths him and the lights give him something to look at while he drops off, we've only just changed the batteries for the first time as well and we've been using it at least 4 months?

strawberrypenguin · 13/04/2012 16:41

Not sure why there's a ? on the end of that!

sassy34264 · 13/04/2012 16:42

by the way, i mean eva when i say she! i know yours is a ds! just explaining the situation in my circumstances. not very well sometimes, i know!

Went fine strawberry. They just cut the foam layers so they sat right around his face and over his ears, and then had to cut the plastic casing as well. We waited while they got it all glued and did the chin strap. He was such a little angel...didn't make a fuss at all. Have to build up slowly from tomorrow.

Engelsmeisje · 13/04/2012 17:23

You've just educated me strawberry .... have now customised my talk!

strawberrypenguin · 13/04/2012 19:43

eng glad it went well, bless him being so good hope he takes to wearing it as well :)
Customised talk is awesome, so much easier to read :)

Scheherezade · 13/04/2012 20:12

Hi all, I've been gone for so long I can't catch up as only on phone Blush

I'm ok, back in the land of the living after having a tough time. Still in the MBU, I get a whole 2/3 hours leave a day. Cy now on 4x ff and solids a day, I've stopped bf and bar one night has slept 7-7 every day since I came in over a month ago. Sometimes he wakes up and wails a bit in the night, but I just ignore him and he goes back off.

Have been enjoying all the pics on facebook :)

Engelsmeisje · 13/04/2012 20:16

Great news on sleep scheh. Welcome back.

Jnice · 13/04/2012 20:17

Good to see you Scheh - glad to hear the sleep and feed routine is working for C. Must be a huge help for you. Have been thinking of you Smile

Jnice · 13/04/2012 20:23

Thanks strawberry and sassy.

The second nap was harder. L was overtired and cried for around an hour then slept for 25 minutes Sad

I'm feeding him now and the good thing is he doesn't hold a grudge!

I know that consistency is the kindest and fastest way to tackle this, but that was so tough. I have to pick up ODS at 3pm which will be right around the next naptime which will put a spanner in the works.

sassy34264 · 13/04/2012 20:29

sounds like everything is going well scheh brilliant news on the 12 hour sleep!

jnice have you tried a 2nd nap yet? how long did he sleep for the 1st?

OP posts:
sassy34264 · 13/04/2012 20:31

sassy that was the 2nd. 1st was better - cried for 30 mins slept for 40. Now he has fallen asleep on me during his feed. Not sure what the baby whisperer says about that!
