I have amber beads too my mum bought them for us but havent researched would also be interested to know.

Well lo was 17lb 10 at weigh in today hes only 13 wks so now up to 98th centile from 91st where he started from. Ive just put a desperate thread in the weaning section i dont want to wean but not sure i can put it off much longer he is HUGE. It was my last baby group session this morning and was invited to weaning session on 22nd MAY have managed to get on the session being run next week instead as even the people running it can see theres as much chance of me winning the lottery without a ticket than him getting to 6 months.

Still still still trying to get this feeding right .......humpf!!

aethelfleda · 27/03/2012 19:55

Hiya girls. Amber beads aren't for actual teething on, they are for wearing and the "amber has amazing antibiotic and healing properties". Unfortunately the only evidence is the glowing "testimonials", usually on sotes that sell them. So no science between wearing amber and reducing teething
other than observational placebo effect (the same mechanism that leads to homeopathy "working" in pets). It's similar to copper bracelets that "cure" rheumatism.

Good day here, we went fantasy househunting in Langley (near slough) as thinking of relocating there sometime in the next year to give DH a less horrid commute. There are actually houses there we can afford if we
Increase our mortgage nearly falls over but steadies self. It's pretty expensive but we have to do something really, commuting's a right PITA at the moment...

BabyYBR was rather snuffly this morning and has been sneezing - could this be a bid to avoid her operation on Thursday? I hope not.

I keep being told by another mum that she's teething simply because she has her fists in her mouth and therefore dribbles Hmm but I'm bf I'd know right?

Today I have finished sewing a sleeping bag for the LO which means I can wash the cheese out of the other one. [chuffed]

hawthers · 27/03/2012 20:40

Just putting f to bed when he decides that now is the time to release his once every four days poo. Then whilst changing him he did another ltr which I caught in the nappy and two wees which I didn't manage to catch. Full change of clothes later with DH called in as back up we're back to square one. Fun times

Just having my first glass of red wine in far too long: a cheeky Montilevet (bordeaux red 2007). Yum.

No science that I could find mopsy but like you I know people who swear by them & the anklets look especially cute so I figure it can't hurt to give them a try :) I've seen a pretty equal number of both positive & negative reviews online.

mopsytop · 27/03/2012 21:22

Hmm that's what I thought re: amber, aethel. jealous of your wine! Had to introduce a no drinking on weekday nights ban or I'd be a total alchie by now!!!

Only one more day before the dreaded first nursery day on Thursday. She's only going for two hours but I'm not looking forward to it. Have been having dreams about minimopsy getting lost. Don't need a psychologist to help me figure out that one :( feel like a bad mum for leaving her so young. Trying to make myself feel better by reminding myself that a) it's only 2 days a week and b) I need to finish my PhD so I can get a job and save for her/our future ... But I still feel terrible. The thing is, it's not getting back to my PhD that's bothering me, it's leaving her to be taken care of by strangers. The nursery seems fine, it has a 2 on the ofsted and a few people I know know people with kids there who are happy with it, and I've visited a few times and the kids always seem happy and busy but still... If it was my mum minding her I'd be a million times happier. Not that I'd ever ask her to make such a commitment, even if she lived in this country. But you know what I mean. How can I leave my tiny baby with strangers? Aaggh! But equally, how can I not finish my PhD after three years of hard work and so nearly there... I need to finish within 4 calendar years of starting for job reasons-they say they take maternity leave into account, but I think often just look to see if you took longer than four years just based on start date/handing in date and don't check to see if there is a reason if you took longer. So I really need to finish by end of september. Hence her going to nursery so early. Sorry, didn't mean to turn this post into a big defensive rant! But I feel so guilty and scared to leave her and totally irrational, like if something goes wrong it'll be my fault for leaving her so young at nursery.

This is normal right? Or am I turning into crazy lady?!

mopsytop · 27/03/2012 21:24

Sorry x- post honey!

fusam · 27/03/2012 21:34

Thanks all for advice about bottles. Definitely no haddock for you hawthers you have done amazingly well despite everything thrown at you. I will keep trying and hoping. I refuse to go through the faff of expressing for it to get chucked though.

Interesting on the beads, I was wondering what they were meant for. Teething powders are brilliant I find but again not really sure how they work.

msbuggywinkle · 27/03/2012 21:49

YBR Teeth can hurt them for ages before they actually emerge and DD2 would cut teeth in the night and I would happily carry on feeding her and not notice until the morning. If the latch is good you don't feel their teeth at all.

Beer and TV for me tonight!

OiMissus · 27/03/2012 22:06

This is my 2nd night without alcohol. -we have to have at least 2 night's off a week, right?
Got my ultrasound scan tomorrow too.(following the hospital visit back in January)
Then I'm going to try and take a passport photo of Ali. I've been advised to lie him on a White blanket - much easier than holding him in a photobooth. Smile
Hope we all get a good night's sleep. X

Figgygal · 27/03/2012 22:07

Just seen an expecting dec 2012 thread Grin

aethelfleda · 27/03/2012 22:16

oi do you have a local camera shop? Ours takes as many passport photos as needed to get a good one for a fiver, v good for wrigglers!

honey, I think the amber looks lovely too! Am seriously tempted...

mopsy stress not, you know you are doing what works for you. As a consolation, children who attend daycare get more viral illnesses in the first three years... Which results in a statistically significant reduction in their risk of getting childhood leukemia! So it's a bit of a weird benefit but hey. The important thing is to remember that babies are very adaptable-
As long as minimopsy settles in Ok I think you'll get used to it.

msbuggy yep for the latch bit but DD1 used to bite! I'm hoping DS won't get teeth as soon as she did, he's feeding really bicely at the moment.

Right, bed!

mopsy she will be fine. Its probably easier to leave them when they are younger as they don't have separation anxiety. She will probably settle really quickly.

scoobyd00 · 28/03/2012 01:53

oi I used this website to order passport photos. They were v good. Passport Application went off last week. www.picturelizard.co.uk/HowToTakeABabyPassportPhoto.php

Rashkakeller · 28/03/2012 12:50

Hello all

Been awol, find it difficult posting when I have both the kids and don't come on much during the evening because dp can't help but comment (he's a technophobe when it suits him ) but I have been a-lurking!

What fab weather! Id be trying to sort out the back garden but need to research the difference between plants and weeds ;)

Mopsy, certainly not crazy!! It's natural to be anxious. My dd went to nursery 3 days a wk from 9 months and she was fine and loves it now. Ds will do the same, hopefully as easy transition as dd. Most nurseries will give you a daily report and won't mind you ringing during the day to check if you want to. And as you say, you're doing it for her future as much as yours xx ps hope your head feels better

Thanks whoever recommended funky giraffe bibs, I bought 5 for ds. Can't decide if my favourite is the dog paw print or the skull and crossbones one!!

Scooby, I too, would have gone ballistic about Whippygate. Stupid cow!! My mil is a bit silly like that, always kept trying to get us to give dd a cup of tea when she was a baby! Not sure if it would hurt or not because tea is good for adults (I love it) but the teeth staining qualities is enough for me to veto it for now!

Oi, congrats on the house!! It looks a real gem and has such great potential! Am I teensy bit envious as I sit in my 3 bed, 1 bathroom modest detached :p We may extend one day because we'd love more space but we're saving to pay off the mortgage first so that will have to wait a few years.

Forgotten everyone elses news..whoops

I was 'mummy of the year' (not) on Sunday when we took dd to a birthday party, only to find I'd got the date wrong and it was on Saturday. Felt shit. We took her to a lovely big park instead to make up for it. Ds is doing well, we've had a run of sleeping through so that's been appreciated. He's a happy soul most of the time but doesn't seem to be in any rush to roll over or anything equally as impressive lol

Right, he's awake!
