Hi Rice Grin

DSS won't eat anything but pizza, waffles and chicken dinosaurs... we've managed to get him to eat a roast dinner now with carrots and broccoli but it means that all we ever eat when he's here is a roast dinner. Unfortunately he gets his fussy eating from his mother (she has history of anorexia so you'd think she'd want him to eat healthier?) and years of her telling him "oh you won't like that" has meant that it's a battle of wills to get him to even try anything new. The problem we have now is that the school keep sending letters home saying that he's obese (he's a little chunky/stocky build but I wouldn't say obese) and it's tantamount to child abuse Sad We try our best when he's with us (no chocolate or crisps unless it's a special occasion) but there's only so much we can do one or two nights a week.

Mmmmcheese · 17/03/2012 20:25

DS is also a fussy eater but he goes through phases of loving certains foods. At the moment its chicken soup (?!), toast, cheese and ham. And he'll always eat youghurt if nothing else.

rice a good trick I've found if they like pesto is to add a cube of frozen spinach as they can't tell it apart from the pesto! And so easy as it just lives in the freezer for months so is always to hand.

We're going to a wedding tomorrow. Trying to pack everything in a large handbag so don't need to take the changing bag with us but need to take a few changes of clothes for DD as wee are due a pooplosion tomorrow! She's going every 3 days at the moment and when it arrives I usually have yo cut her out of her vest. Hmmm, maybe I need to take scissors too!

mopsytop · 17/03/2012 20:30

Yeah ladies, I am officially drunkies < off my face emoticon >. husband currently feeding minimopsy-it's an indication of my being drunk that she's having a feed at nearly half eight. She's usually in bed by seven. BIG oops. One night won't hurt though (I hope!). She is happy out, she hates going to bed! I also managed to do all the washing up and clean the kitchen. So I'm not like incapacitated or anything. But haven't been this tipsy since well before I got preg!! It IS paddy's day, after all!!!!

mopsytop · 17/03/2012 20:32

Oh and rice, no, it was the gaelscoil out in Glanmire ...

mopsytop · 17/03/2012 20:33

Imagine, I used to speak fluent Irish! Could barely string a sentence together nowadays. Is a real shame. But when would I ever have the opportunity to speak Irish over here?!

LittleMissFlustered · 17/03/2012 20:44

Rice crispies and a decaff coffee for dinner, currently sat feeding and planning to hit the sack as soon as he goes down.

Looking into buying a new tv. Torn between the small one with integrated DVD player, or the ever so slightly bigger one that has no DVD player.

Hope you all have a decent night, and that the hangovers are conspicuous by their absrncesWink

Welcome rice and scooby :)

plutocrap · 17/03/2012 20:50

Ah, seven, mothers are human, too! Yes, we have more emotional continence than our children, but we need to work to build up our emotional reserves, too. Wrecking yourself with guilt may make you feel lower and less emotionally resilient! Far better to make a big thing of Mothering Sunday, which will help everyone feel better, and smooth things over with the good feeling of a nice day, rather than trying to make amends by being negative about yourself (which could rebound on DS again?).

Still daily (or more more frequent) poosplosions (expoosions?) here! This is why I was so shocked at the weekly-or-so poos you mentioned, I think, mmmcheese : I wasn't calling you a liar or anything, butI just couldn't understand how any LO could go so long! Maybe my children have shorter digestive tracts! They certainly are skinny in the tummy (tho' DD has a more solid body, there's not much chub on it)... Following the nappy discussion, it's probably time for us to try the pop-in ones DS had, as they have elastic round te legs AND back, which could be really helpful in DD's daily poofest! I have been looking for liners locally, wanting an easily accessible supply, but guess that's not going to happen (though this town has finally done something international, in having a man extradited to the US for selling batteries to Iran - the local paper is simply pooing itself wth excitement! - day-to-day life is still not sophisticated enough to run to nappy liners!)

hawthers, would it cheer you up at all to subvert the things that re grinding you down, by using the tendency to "ear worms", thus:

  • [[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/906676-to-think-this-is-very-very-wrong/AllOnOnePage search for "Postman Pat ran over his cat"
or
  • , in which Derek Jacobi sounds bloody sinister, saying, "Who's not in bed? Iggle Piggle's not in bed!" I first saw that in my young days on Mumsnet, when DH was working away for 3-4 days a week, and having a good laugh at that clip really made me feel a hell of a lot better. I could see Iggle PIggle wthout wanting to kill him mysefl, and knew that other mums were giggling madly into their sleeves while their LOs were subjecting them to bloody ITNG!

Now, determined , you are going to have a rest tomorrow, aren't you? Wink Seriously, though, those pictures you put up, of the ceramics Darcie made for you, were lovely, and hopefully will help "smooth things" over for you all, too (as I suggested to seven), without the trauma of rehashing and apologies!!!

Happy Mothering Sunday to all of you, and to the families sharing the day with us! ThanksThanksThanksThanks (And a little Shamrock today for our Irish contingent! Smile)

When is baby YBR going into hospital? I hope that goes well and you can get t over with and not worry anymore! BTW, YBR, you don't post much so maybe you didn't see my comment on this, so just in ase you didn't: that is such a brilliant photo of her n the violin case! That's going to be a lassic family photo.

I'm also impresed by all the music! I was in school/college and chapel choirs through education, but there's not been the same level of music in churches in my area since, so I have to mostly make do with CBeebies hits these days, althugh I am getting back into fun big bamd numbers like Chattanooga Choo Choo and the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy because I can dance with the DC while singing! DH is fairly uninterested in music though (like my father, he drones rather than singing), and languages are a bigger priority for us, as DH is from former Yugoslavia, and I gradated in languages, which I don't really want for my children, as for me, although I loved what I learned and became, in other countries, people get a subject plus a language, rather than being turned out into the world without the extra! What about others? BeeMyBaby, you mentioned Hawwa was after your mother in law; are you bringing her up bilingual? And tyel, you mentioned Chinese - are you fluent enough to thin abot tat? Apologies if I have left out any other languages.

Feed seems finally to be over. I'll check back later, and maybe reply to some "vintage" posts, in the manner of TOTP2!

plutocrap · 17/03/2012 20:51

Damn! I meant to congratulate you on being out of hospital, LMF! Blush Welcome home, sicky as it is...

mopsytop · 17/03/2012 20:52

Is that aimed at me lmf??!!!! haha bet I get a stink hangover tomorrow. Currently necking pints of water. It is very pathetic that I was drunk by 8pm on paddy's day. Irish coffee, then a beer, then a cocktail. CLEARLY too much for me to handle even though it was over seven hours. I forget I'm no longer a young thing! :) fun though all the same (so long as I avoid the hangover ... Fingers crossed!!). Lucky husband clear headed and on baby duty. Not bf has its major plus points once you get over the guilt of not succeeding!

mopsytop · 17/03/2012 21:00

plu, I'm also a languages graduate and speak (and read and write) fluent French and german which I've always found a benefit I have to say. I did spend several years each in both France and Germany though so really got to become properly fluent. I know loads of people who did similar degrees who never really used their languages and gave forgotten a lot of them now (a bit like me and Irish) so I guess it depends. The main thing for me was that I LOVED my subject and so worked hard at my degree. So I'd ideally like minimopsy to choose a subject she loves at uni if she goes. If she wants to go, of course. I think that's the main thing. Having said that, I didn't have to pay nine grand a year in fees. Would I have chosen languages if I'd had those bills? It's very hard to say ...

AnAirOfHope · 17/03/2012 21:04

Mopys try learning Welsh, its intreasting like galic. There is 6 diffrent ways of saying yes depending on the question and who you are talking too!

mopsytop · 17/03/2012 21:09

Irish is similar Air, there is no generic word for 'yes' or 'no', you negate or affirm the relevant verb.

LittleMissFlustered · 17/03/2012 21:28

Not a specific aim in your direction mopsy just lobbing anti-hangover vibes all over the thread:o

Thanks plu:) thankfully we were only in for the day this time, though 'twas a long day!

I'm officially in bed now. So I shall say goodnight, and bed you all not to drop crumbs on the duvet if you eat biscuits later...

Mmmmcheese · 17/03/2012 21:37

plu no offense taken! Its kind of nice not having pooey nappies all the time but the build up to the big one is nerve-wracking! Does no-one else's LO do this?! It is like a litre of mustard yellow paint has exploded in her nappy when it arrives!

MissRee · 17/03/2012 21:41

mmm freya's auntie offered to do nappy change today... she got a shock when Freya hadn't finished pooing and yellow mustard poop came flying out with a ginormous man-fart and covered her Grin luckily auntie has two DDs of her own so saw the funny side!

seven77 · 17/03/2012 22:11

Hi rice, thanks for the book recommendation, I'll check it out. I'm fortunate that he likes pasta so it isn't all crap, though I hate giving it to him all of the time.

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling better already, and will be making an effort tomorrow to celebrate mothers day with my beautiful children. For now I'm cheering myself up with a bottle glass of wine.

I've forgotten almost all of my high-school German, though me and DS do a bit of sign language.

plutocrap · 17/03/2012 22:22

Air, that's an inspired typo of "mopsy" - made her name look quite Welsh, like Powys! Grin

Did you get to have another subject with your languages, mopsy? Or were you purely a for-the-love-of-it philologist?! You made me feel a bit bad about my grumbling. I did love my subject, and thought it one of the most varied humanities degrees (it can include history, literature, economics, etc.), but I am a bit bitter for having graduated in Russian not long before the rouble crisis flushed foreign involvement right out of the country, so not a lot of jobs for years, all the while trying to reassure other potential employers that I would not "get bored" with them (and being politely disbelieved). It was great in personal terms, but not very rewarding in financial terms (and in terms of being able to engage in it apart from at leisure) for a long time. Oh, apart from a magazine job which kept paying late: they couldn't make Russia "pay" either! Hmm Not just me, then! Grin

Rashkakeller · 17/03/2012 23:12

What a clever lot, you are! I can't play a musical instrument or speak a foreign language unfortunately!

Mixed day here because after weeks of no night feeds, ds got me up at 10, 2, 6 and 8 last night/this morning and I think the extra feeds dehydrated me because I've had a monstrous headache all day. The pill popping downgraded it to just horrible at times though! Went to my nephews 1st birthday party today so that was nice and dd had a lovely time playing with her cousin and some other older girls.

Seven hope you have a lovely Mothers Day. I shout at my dd sometimes and hate myself for it but I don't think we will scar our children for life. The being naughty and getting told off is just part of growing up for them and it's a lot harder on us!

Mopsy glad you enjoyed celebrating and hope you avoid the hangover!

Hello Rice :)

My dd has issues with potato products too! And meat. Good job she wasn't brought up in the seventies! She loves pasta and sausage though, and will eat most veg so that's something. Funny enough, they always say at nursery that she has eaten all her dinner but if I cook the same, she won't took it obviously Marie the nursery cook has better skillz than moi...meh

Ds 'treated' me earlier to an early mum's day gift - fairly innocent sounding fart which turned out to be any extra runny, seeping poo! Luckily, his sock soaked most of it up, and yes, he was still wearing it!

Hope everyone enjoys some serious zzzzs tonight and has a special day tomorrow

hawthers · 17/03/2012 23:33

mmm we are on a three day rota of poos. In fact pretty sure we are due one tomorrow - might let DH have the pleasure.

hawthers · 17/03/2012 23:55

Fucking a1 the students who moved into our street a couple of weeks ago are clearly having a party. As I'm a miserable fucker really tired will be getting DH to go out there in an hour or so if they continue. Second thoughts let them face the wrath if a sleep deprived mother, we'll see if they still fancy making some noise when I'm done with them.

plutocrap · 18/03/2012 00:14

Go, hawthers! Take it all out: you know you want to!

Mothering Sunday has arrived!!

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

The party is still going with some bob awful garage music pumping out. Now realise how bloody lovely and quiet our street was. Am going to have to say something when this feed has finished. Some excitable European type is screeching in the street. Oh lord

hawthers · 18/03/2012 02:43

DH has just gone around.... Waiting for the base to stop....

mopsytop · 18/03/2012 02:46

Poor hawthers :( let's hope it's a paddy's day special and not a weekly event.

Oh Bob my head is KILLING me. Ow ow ow. Cocktails are so yum but I am paying a heavy price. Husband offered to do the feed but I'd rather he do the early morning one so I can have a lie in. Could have got him to do both but that would be a not unfair.
