Just a quickie to let you know that I'm still alive, but only just! Narrowly avoided being hospitalised last night - think there might be a prob with my gall bladder, so am now taking super strength painkillers that aren't really advised whilst breastfeeding. They are making both me and Pippa v sleepy, but easing the pain a little, so worth it!

Congrats to Frizbe. Will have to catch up on rest of messages when we are feeling better.

JuA · 05/03/2006 21:09

Tabs - hope you are feeling better soon

Congratulations to Frizbe

:( hope the colic settles down bit for those that are suffering. I remember some long evenings with dd - fortunatley it didn't last for too long.

Dh has taken Emily to bed and I am waiting for Jess to wake up for a feed so that I can join them! We have had a couple of good nights (touch wood!!) so am hoping for a decent amount of sleep again tonight.

Frizbe · 05/03/2006 21:55

Thanks for the congrats girls, will post more tomorrow in middle of feeding frenzy, and trying to catch up!! Grin

Chloe55 · 06/03/2006 10:50

Hi girls,

Oh no Tabs, sounds like you are having a bad time of it at the mo - hope you start feeling better soon.

I am feeling dreadful too, right boob started hurting yesterday, like I had been punched in it or something. It continued to stay painful and through th night I have been feeling all fluey with sweats/shakes - not feeling much better so have booked a doc appt, I hope it's not mastitis Sad

Frizbe · 06/03/2006 12:46

Hi all, gory details lurking on the birth announcements, hang on let me do a link!
\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1370&threadid=152540&stamp=060306122324\birth} I hope anyway!

Frizbe · 06/03/2006 12:50

Phew that worked!!

Flame, mega thanks for posting for me on Sat Grin

Tabs sorry to hear your having a horrible time of things{{{{Hugs}}}} hope it all gets better soon x

Well girls getting rid of that collustrum was a mare last night, but my milk is finally in and boy do my boobs know it, dd2 fed 7pm-2am, ouch! but eventually they worked properly and she was sated....made up for it by sleeping thru till 10am! so I only had to get up with dd at 7am to help her get dressed, v glad actually that she wanted me to help,as has been daddys girl, getting used to dd2 all weekend....so have crawled back into bed and caught up a bit this am, in for a big shock on Wed, when have two to deal with tho!!

hotmama · 06/03/2006 13:42

Frizbe - welcome to the post-natal thread. Smile

I've been doing 'power-feeding' since lat Wednesday as dd2 hadn't got back to her birth weight and I was seeing the HV this am.

Yay - dd2 is now 9.3 - over her birth weight - HV said we are doing fab so not to worry! Grin Grin Hotmama is now a bit calmer. Wink

Still having some issues with latching coupled with dd2 doesn't want to gape initially, so my La Leche lady is coming out again tonight. Am using breast shells which help to draw out the nipple so I am now longer getting ripped to shreds.

Dd1 is back to 3 days at Nursery so Thursday will be my first day of looking after them both by myself - eek. I forsee a day of watching CBeebies whilst feeding dd2. Blush

Hopefully, the amounts of feeds will be reducing soon - how is everybody doing - these first few weeks are HARD!

Helen38 · 06/03/2006 15:07

Just saying hello on here as I can nowGrin

Alfred William (alfie) born 6-45pm saturday 9lb15oz more details to follow when I get chance (it's a long story, bottom not up to sitting on this chair for long enough to type it yetWink)

But I did manage with my tens Grin

JuA · 06/03/2006 15:18

Hi all
Jessica and Emily are 5 weeks old today - I can't believe how quickly it has flown by and how much they have changed!
I am getting the hang of looking after 2 - very different from just 1!! I haven't had all three on my own very much as dh shift patterns have been very good to me or I have had family over to help! but I am on my own all night tonight so breakfast could be fun in the morning, at least dh doesn't start his shift until after dd1 has gone to bed.
Hot Mama - really pleased dd2 has made it back up to her birth weight. I find when I have all of them together dd1 gets really good quality time with me when the other 2 are sleeping as I am conscious of wanting her to be good when I need to feed both at the same time (which is when cbeebies has become my lifeline). I have sunflower seeds to plant with her tomorrow if I can be bothered! and I try and get out something which she hasn't played with for a while to occupy her. Mostly she has been very good although I have had moments when all 3 are yelling and I am tearing my hair out but we are surviving. Her nursery days are a godsend - she is doing full days Thursday and Friday at the moment but is going back to half days in April!

JuA · 06/03/2006 15:20

Congratulations Helen :)

Flamesparrow · 06/03/2006 15:54

5 weeks old??? How did that happen already???

Anyone else noticing that our boy/girl ratio seems to have evened out in the end?

Frizbe - posting was my pleasure... drove DH nuts waiting for the reply from you to say it was ok Blush.

Long long long night last night... the swaddling didn't work :( He was just miserable for most of the night, you could see it was wind, and could see as a new wave was coming - it reminded me of contractions, and I'm there looking insane telling a 1 week old to keep calm and breathe through it Blush. I'm waking up with one huge leaky breast each morning as I tend to feed him on the easy side over night so that we both get some sort of rest, but after a big morning feed, it seems to settle down again. I'm being vigilant at checking for lumpy patches etc, and hopefully things will start improving after the first proper chiro session on Tuesday.

I'm in for the scary "Oh god I have 2 to look after alone" day on Thursday. DH was meant to be off all week (due to some leave fiddling at work Wink), but head office called for him the day I was in labour, so they found out the exact day he started leave, and are insisting on a proper 2 weeks, rather than giving him the extra two days :( In some ways its probably better - means I only have 2 days alone, then a weekend, rather than straight into a full week alone. Hoping to start DD at nursery next Tuesday now.

Not a lot else to tell... stitches more uncomfortable as the swelling went down and bruising came out, but they are starting to ease again, so I'm guessing that they are on their way out (forgot to ask how long they last). Have had to sit in all day for m/w Angry (is it really that hard to give an am/pm idea of when they'll come???) - we wanted to take DD out for a little bit :(

Lovely foster sister last night "You've still got a little bump haven't you" Angry - Just what you wanna hear!!! She spent the last few weeks telling me how huge I was, and now apparantly its fair game to tell me I'm fat even when there's no baby in there!!!! Telling myself that she is 17 and not too bright Grin

Chloe55 · 06/03/2006 16:06

Well my predictions were right - I have mastitis Sad. Apparantly feeding on the effected side can help speed the healing process but it is just so painful, really peed off - just when things were beginning to look up on the feeding front. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon.

Congratualtions Helen Grin Respect to having a 9lbs 15oz on Tens!!

Flame - my brother told me I still looked pg when I was in the hospital, he said he thought I would be much thinner and it must be due to all the chocolate I ate whilst pg Angry Er...no, maybe it has something more to do with the fact that it is just not physically possible for a tummy to go from the size of a bus to a nice trim size 12 overnight!!

ellenrose · 06/03/2006 18:55

Congratulations to Helen and Frizbe Smile

Had a cbeebies day with ds2 today - must do painting with him tomorrow as feeling bad but trying to clean up and feed dd1 as well as providing him with an interesting day was beyond me today Blush

Maisie really struggling with this cold - thank God for the nose drops.

Chloe - hope you are feeling a little more comfortable soon.
Hotmama - glad to hear about dd2 weight gain - these early weeks are just way too stressful.
Flame - Sad must be horrid when ds is so uncomfy, hope he has a better night tonight
JuA - still amazed at how well you are managing to cope with two, just about able to manage with this one Grin
Jasnem - hope the antibiotics have started to work and the stitches are a little less painful - poor you.

Chloe55 · 07/03/2006 10:26

Mornng girls,

Antibiotics must have kicked in because the cold sweats have subsided, boob is still painful and inflamed but it seems I must have caught it early, still managing to feed from that side through gritted teeth so hopefully within a few days it might have cleared up completely, fingers crossed anyway.

Ellenrose, ds seems to have had a cold for the past 2 weeks, some days he is better than others - isn't it awful to watch them look like they are really struggling to breath/eat and be able to do bugger all about it apart from make them cry by shoving drops up their nose - I hate it. I hope things improve your end.

Flamesparrow · 07/03/2006 10:46

Glad the antibiotics are kicking in Chloe - sounds nasty... I'm in enough pain just from my bruised nipple, let alone mastitis.

We had a calmer night last night - DS seems to want to suck through the pain, so is sucking one of our thumbs for a little bit until he falls asleep. I'm trying to hold off getting a dummy until we're done with the chiropractor - hopefully it will help with the wind, and we won't need to get one.

Into the cloth nappies - I was planning to wait a bit longer, but the disposables kept leaking, so I decided to just go for it.

Those of you who bought slings... have you tried them out yet? I'm having problems getting to grips with the ring one, and the extra fabric is irritating me, so I was considering getting a different one, but thought I'd see how you were doing with yours first!

Chloe55 · 07/03/2006 10:50

im the same flame, i have a ring sling but just can't get te hang of it, the babies look so comfotable in the diagram but my ds looks at me like i am torturing him when i attempt it!

Flamesparrow · 07/03/2006 10:52

Oooh, a bit of bouncy news here... my bottom has shrunk enough for me to fit into a pair of my bigger pre-pregnancy trousers Grin. Ok, I still have the big flabby stomach hanging over the top, but it feels sooo good to be in trousers that don't stretch to bus size!

Flamesparrow · 07/03/2006 11:02

Emrys seems to find it ok in there, but he never seems all that supported, and no matter how I try to adjust it, it never feels tight enough... poor kid probably thinks he's gone deaf too - his little head gets a tad lost in milk inflated boobies Grin

ellenrose · 07/03/2006 12:06

Chloe - glad to hear the antibiotics are working, must be a huge relief. Maisie had a better night last night so I am hoping we are past the worst of the cold - it just sounds dreadful. Hope your ds is a bit better too Smile

Flame - I had a Baby Bjorn sling from ds1 and ds2 which I have used several times with Maisie and she loves it - fell asleep in it yesterday whilst I did the hoovering Grin

Chloe55 · 07/03/2006 13:32

This is a bit silly but does anyone else feel a bit sad that there will be no more Due Feb 06 thread? Not that I miss being pregnant but it's a bit like an end of an era - that thread got me through my really crap days at work, morning sickness, tiredness, backache, cramps and most of us posted a contraction or two at some point.

Jasnem · 07/03/2006 14:30

Yes - I felt that when I checked it first this morning, and realised there wouldn't be any more messages on it.Sad

I'm still not around much, as I'm only managing if I spend all my free time lying down to releave the pressure on my stitches. Antibiotics seem to be starting to work though, so hopefully I should be on top of things soon - would be great if it wasn't for that!

I tried my sling last week ( before I lost the ability to walk) - found it hard getting him in and out, and he looked very cramped, but did go to sleep as soon as I started to move. I'll try again next week, but have no idea if I'm really doing it right or not at the moment. I also have a baby born type carrier, which is much easier to use, but gave me back ache with the DDs as they got bigger, so didn't last long.

The boy was weighed yesterday, and has put on 5 oz since birth! I must be doing something right with the breast feeding!

Tabs · 07/03/2006 18:14

Hello! Quick update whilst Pippa finishes her feed. Pains have now eased so stopped painkillers. Waiting for appointment to come through for gall bladder scan now - no idea how long that might take, but hopefully will be before I get any more attacks. Ironic thing is that it was very much like the horrendous afterpains that I complained about a few weeks ago, so they may not have been afterpains afterall!

Had an attack of SVT (weird occasional racing heart thing) this morning though, so think my body is gradually giving up on me!!

Have reached conclusion that DD hates her basket, and this is contributing to our sleepless nights, so need to pick between separate rooms or co-sleeping for next couple of nights before DH comes home and can move cot into our room somehow.

Chloe - sorry to hear about mastitis - guess I'm not the only one having a hard time at the mo. Am sure that things will start to get easier for us all soon.

No experience with slings here - we have a carrier which she seems to like as it keeps her upright which helps with the colic, but can't feed her in that like you prob can in a sling.

Flame - yay for cloth nappies! They are so much less 'leaky' aren't they? I just have to make sure I use big enough wraps now, as one of the smaller ones allows a small wet bit to contact her clothes still!

Right, that's all I have time for for now, but does anyone have experience of cranial osteopathy - considering it as option to try and help with colic, but don't know anyone in RL who has used it.

cuffyj1 · 07/03/2006 20:05

Hi to everyone, quick post while dh has got lewis.

Tabs - lewis seems to hate his basket too. If he goes to sleep in my arms i can put him down in his rocker chair, on the settee, on our bed and he stays asleep. the second he touches the basket he's awake.

Flame - congrats on getting into pre-preg trousers, i'm sick of wearing the same 2 pairs of maternity trousers i've got.

Chloe and jasnem - hope u get better soon.

Apart from the odd sleepless nights lewis is doing well putting weight on etc.

i've got an infection in my c-section wound so on antibiotics, my own fault, i've been overdoing it a bit.

JuA · 07/03/2006 20:14

Tabs - glad to hear you are feeling better! I would go for the co-sleeping if it means you will get more sleep - looking after yourself is so important and more sleep for you will hopefully help keep you well.
Chloe - glad the antibiotics have started to work.
Have been using cloth nappies during the day - still using disposables at night cos they are a bit easier to change and it saves me a trip to the nappy bucket! They look so cute in their bimbles. The nappies I got free from the council are supposedly birth to potty and I think I could fit both of them in one nappy at the moment -they are huge.
A friend came round this afternoon and I roped him into helping me give them all an early bath - meant that dd1 had had a bath and hair wash before dh got in from work! It is a bit like a production line one in one out! dd1 refuses to get in the bath with Jessica and Emily so I wash them first and put her in when I am dressing them - it works quite well but really needs 2 pairs of hands!

Frizbe · 08/03/2006 08:54

Hi guys, so nice to be finally joining you on here!! Grin

OMG, wonder if dd2 hates her basket? she's sleeping happily in it during day, but just you try putting her in it at night......argh! wasn't a prob with dd1, so was wondering what was going on with no2, you could be right girls!

Helen, Congrats on Alfred Grin and huge respect for that size baby and just Tens Grin hope your not too sore....

Hotmama, yeah on reaching birth weight again Smile

Flame, lol sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I was naughty and text'd from delviery suite! so had to turn tel off again!

Chloe {{{Big Hugs}}}} and ouch, feeling for you

Tabs and Cuffyj, sorry to hear your both poorly too, get better soon guys.....

JuA huge respect for doing this with two, I had forgotten just how much I hate BF and that's only the one! but I shall persevere for now...

Jas, Tic tac and everyone else, how's it going then??

Personally I think I may well go mad shortly, have started keeping a food diary for dd2, as she appears to be feeding all evening/night, quite happily until 2am, then she has an hour trying to settle, which I so far have fixed with swaddling and a screaming session, wind is not the main problem, as belches like her mother (ahem! Blush) so that's 3hrs sleep till dh gets up for work, and if I'm lucky an extra hour before dd gets up.........today is my 1st day without dh, as back to work, and dd not at nursery, so no chance of a kip....sob....and dh is now at work solidly including weekends for the next 24 days Sad so unless it snows again, or weather is really foul, I'm on my own!
