Tictac - we used Infacol with both ds and it was fab although yours sounds worse if no response as yet - chiro sounds good.

Maisie is doing really well although feeding like it is going out of fashion. Will start trying to express in a week or so as dh is mad keen to help with the feeds - I got the Avent Isis with the electric pump as my manual one last time was hopeless - has anyone tried it?

Tabs · 11/02/2006 17:10

Hi ladies - just checking in properly. Milk appears to be coming in today so I think that Pippa might start sleeping a bit better/longer, hence maybe allowing me a bit of time to start posting again. Has been a very busy and tiring first few days, but she's so worth it!

Already in awe of JuA coping with 2, let alone with an existing LO too!

JuA · 12/02/2006 07:50

Hi Tabs - glad to hear that Pippa is feeding well & sleeping - that definetely makes everything easier!
Tic Tac - hope Peyia is a bit more settled
Ellen - sounds like Maisie is doing really well.

The last few days have been really rough - basically we have had no sleep - well maybe an hour or 2 a couple of times, the babies just needed constant feeding - even with bottles of formula in between I seemed to be constantly feeding one or other of them and so we have decided to stop breatfeeding - I am quite gutted but already feel better - I think I had been thinking about it for a while and having made a decision I now feel a bit relieved. It is quite frustrating because they latched on so much better than dd ever did and were really easy to feed but there just did not seem to be enough hours in the day to satisfy them!
Yesterday was the first day of all bottles and we have had a really good night - they both fed at 9pm and 1am and then Jess fed at 4.30am and Emily at 6.30am. I was feeding Emily so I slept for about 4 and a half hours and now feel like a human being again. dh has been great very supportive and has been up with me all the time and looked after dd1. Hopefully this will mean that I will remember the first few weeks of their lives and not just a sleep depived blur which was what I was beginning to feel like.

TicTac · 12/02/2006 11:22

Hi all,

Jua - Don't give yourself a hard time about not breastfeeding. you have to do what is right for all of you and at least your babies have had some of the good mum stuff anyway so there is a benefit already! Glad you are getting some sleep now too. I think it is important to have your energy to manage the babies and DD

Tabs - Welcome and congrats to you and Pippa! I'm pleased your milk is in so you might get a bit of sleep.

Well it has taken a couple of weeks but for the last 4 days Peyia has kept a really good routine. We are not giving her anything for wind and still breastfeeding. She is now feeding every 3 hours, taking a proper feed and also sleeping/ settling well after her night feeds

Sorry I have not been on much to post on either thread but we have just been so busy!

Good life this mum stuff though isn't it ladies!

I was amazed at how you were coping breastfeeding twins anyway Jua! As nice as it is in theory, I am a firm believer in taking the easiest method for everything when you have twins!!!

Glad to hear you are all settling down nicely... hoping to join you as soon as I can

JuA · 13/02/2006 09:28

Tic Tac - sounds like Peyia has got you organised!! It is such a blessing when they feed and go straight back to sleep in the night - dd was always good at her night feeds.
Jess is pretty good at night although she can take up to an hour to drink 2.5oz of milk!
Emily takes longer to settle but finishes her feeds much quicker - she has rejected a dummy which I am pleased about but seems to want lots more cuddles than Jess!

TicTac · 13/02/2006 10:46

Jua - it must be great to see just how different your twins are even at this very early age!

Hi Ladies - are any of you suffering with really bad tummy pains from your uterus contracting? The midwife said that the same hormone that sorts out the breastfeeding causing the contracting, and that it's normal, but I was doubled over with pain in the night, and it hasn't really eased much. Am I alone in the severity? Have tried paracetamol and tens machine and hot water bottle, but nothing's touching it. Would feel great today otherwise!

hotmama · 13/02/2006 15:15

I can join you now!

Evie Harriet was born Friday 10th Feb at 10.06 a.m. - done a birth announcement but am crap at doing links.

Dd2 is sleeping so making the most of it - but will be back soon.

Yay the wonderful world of motherhood!

Tabs · 13/02/2006 15:31

Hotmama's birth announcement

ellenrose · 13/02/2006 16:16

Tabs - suffered with the stomach pains too - getting much better but still there. Was taking Codydramol for my pelvis so it helped a bit but it should ease off soon. My midwife just said that it at least means everything is going back where it came from - not much help when you are in pain though
Hotmama - congratulations and welcome to Evie - pleased you managed to avoid the induction after all
Maisie has spent the last two nights being awake for four hours so I was feeling a little rough but have managed to grab some sleep in the morning when she settled and dh looked after both ds so feeling a lot better now.

TicTac · 13/02/2006 19:08

Tabs - I did suffer a bit but not as bad as yours by the sounds of it.

I hope all is going well with you all!!

I still can't express. I bought an electric pump today and had high expectations....turns out it was a waste of £55... after half an hour I got maybe half an ounce this is really going to put a huge strain on the BF.

Any other suggestions?

OP posts:
Jasnem · 13/02/2006 19:17

Tic tac - hope you don't mind me asking, but why do you need to express?
Can't really suggest anything else, but I think things settle down at about six weeks, and you might find it easier then (if you can wait that long).

Frizbetheexpansionset · 13/02/2006 20:10

Tictac, don't worry, that's all you will get at 1st, but it'll build up over a few weeks of doing it, eventually you'll be getting 3oz out in one go just takes time for supply to build that's all, don't forget your little one is drinking most of it 1st!

TicTac · 14/02/2006 10:07

Jas, I don't mind you asking at all. DH would like to do a feed for me in the weekend nights and I would find it much easier whrn we are out and about.

good thought about dd drinking it all!! I had not thought about that. you havr made me feel better!!!

Tabs · 15/02/2006 14:10

Hi ladies - we're all v quiet on here aren't we - there doesn't seem much time free at the mo does there?! Practising my 1 handed typing now!

We did our first trip out of house yesterday. Just to bumps & babes, but still feels like a big step. Todays adventure is trying real nappy for first time.

She also had heel prick test and was weighed today - dropped slightly to 8lb 11oz, but that's only a drop of 3.5% so really pleased with her progress.

Paracetamol finally seems to be taking some effect on me too, which is a big relief.

Hope everyone else is getting on well. TicTac - any more progress with the expressing?

ellenrose · 15/02/2006 15:00

Tabs - pleased you are finally getting some relief from the pain
HV coming tomorrow to do all of the vital statistics again so will be interesting to see if all of this feeding is paying off
Took Maisie out for a walk with her big brothers yesterday - I think I spent more time getting her into the pram/arranging the cosytoes/stopping her hat falling in her eyes than we actually did walking - but the boys seemed to enjoy it.

Morgan · 15/02/2006 16:17

Hi all - my first post on the post natal thread.Lauren is doing great - she is sleeping in her room and basically is in routine (Contented Little Baby) I can't believe it!! She only wakes up once a night at the mo - and last night she slept from 2.30 until 7 !! My DS was so different - waking every two hours during the night. I am waiting for it to fall apart but we'll see.

Flamesparrow · 15/02/2006 22:04

I'm sooo .... I know I still have over a week til I'm "due" but I want to cuddle my baby too!

Oooh, saying that... tightenings seem to be starting up again!

3k · 15/02/2006 23:30

Hello,

I finally made it over!!!

We are doing fine, Ben is feeding every 2.5 - 4 hours at the moment and is quite content. We had about 2 hours of crying on and off earlier today but he has settled now and we even gave him his first bath at home!! He has very dry skin due to being overdue and my midwife recommended olive oil so we have rubbed some in and will see if that makes a difference.

It's great being a mum, very tiring but well worth it.

I'm still in a lot of pain from C-section but MW said it is still early days. I tried to walk to my mums earlier (2 mins down road) and overdid it so now very sore. Dont think I will attempt that for a few days!! Great pushing Ben in his pram though, he loved it and slept for 4.5 hours in total!!!!!!

Glad everyone is doing ok, Jua you did really well with your breast feeding. Ben wouldnt latch on and he got very frustrated with it - I feel disappointed but he is soooo happy on bottles that I dont mind not being able to do it. We have had a tough start with the section and no-go on BF but he is worth it all.

Anyway, off to bed now will speak more soon.
xxx

JuA · 16/02/2006 10:05

Hi all
Glad to hear that babies seem to be sleeping!
My two are not bad - we are trying to get them to feed at te same time - which goes well until one of them decides they only want a 2 hour gap and the other one is sound asleep so we are persevering - otherwise I could end up feeding the bottles continuously! Dh is at work 5 -9 tonight so I will have all 3 on my own for thefirst time! well in at the deep end if I can crack dd1 bedtime a whole day will be no problem!

hotmama · 16/02/2006 13:13

Afternoon girls - dd2 is slepping and dp has nipped out so thought I'd do a little posting.

After 2 nights of sleep nightmare, dd2 was better last night, I only had to feed twice at 1ish and 6ish - so had a reasonable amount of sleep - I was beginning to be a bit of a zombie!

BF going o.kish - needing to use shields as my nips are a bit sore as dd2 had a feeding marathon when my milk came in on Monday. Had a La Leche lady around last night and has helped with positioning etc - will get her back around next week.

Going to try to persevere for longer with the bf this time - but I won't beat myself up if it doesn't work out - and IMHO nobody else should feel guilty if it doesn't work out - it can be bloody hard!

Dd1 has been put into nursery full-time for the moment as I can't lift her etc as I had a c-section, also now have cold sores so can't kiss her - I am feeling very guilty and the little mite seems a little anxious about the new addition - I'm sure it will work out.

Dd2 had her first weigh yesterday and was down to 8.3 from 9lb -the mw was happy with this esp after the delivery I had - she knew I was worried as dd1 went from 8.10 to 7.9 - hence all the problems with feeding etc.

How is everybody coping etc. I still post on the Oct 04 thread re dd1 - I find the post-natal threads invaluable as a source of support - so here is to happy postings.

ellenrose · 16/02/2006 14:43

Another marathon feeding frenzy for dd1 last night but have just had her weighed and she has lept from 8lb 9oz last week to 9lb 9.5oz this week so it is clearly going somewhere .

Hoping she settles down a bit now as I am knackered and was making hushed deals with her in the night to just give me an hours sleep - anyway, she ignored the lot and is sleeping peacefully next to me now none the wiser!

Morgan/3K Wish Maisie was sleeping that long - crossed fingers for tonight

Thankfully jaundice has settled so no need for the second blood test - can't say that either one of us enjoy the heel prick much

JuA - hope the night with the three of them goes well - you are coping so brilliantly

Hotmama - hope the nips are feeling a bit better soon . I've have been using the Lansinoh cream and thankfully mine have been ok but not sure whether it is actually the cream working or whether they have just got used to it . You are right not to worry too much about it though - I think everyone feels the pressure to continue as long as possible and that is just not fair - I am hoping to carry on longer with dd1 but will just have to see how it goes.

Tabs · 16/02/2006 21:11

Oh dear - tough day today. Took her to meet NCT antenatal group at one of their houses, and it was all a bit too much stimulation I think. She missed her sleep (wouldn't settle whilst there) and now hasn't stopped screaming or feeding since we got home. Just fed her almost constantly for 2 hours , but she's started crying again 10mins after putting her down, just as DH and I had said that she would probably sleep til 12 or 1!

Trying to leave her a little to settle herself, but it's so hard. She has 3 more mins to do it by herself or I'll be back up there with her. Just don't have the willpower to leave her to cry on her own any longer when she sounds so troubled .

Tabs · 17/02/2006 09:50

Better this morning . She fed for 3.5hrs over a 4 hr period in the end , then slept for 2 hours, fed again, and slept for another 4. Guess that's what they call a growth spurt!!

Sorry didn't comment on anyone else's progress last night.

Hotmama - glad the la leche lady has been able to help with your feeding, and hope the soreness passes quickly. Am with you on looking forward to this thread being a good source of support for us all.

JuA - how did the first night with all 3 on your own go?

3k - hope you are taking it a bit easier now and resting up properly.

Hello to everyone else - I must try and do another stats update later so that we know where we are all at!
