Hiya TicTac.
DD was soooo miserable in her first few weeks, and got given the whole "colic/wind" diagnosis. I am now one of these preaching converts to chiropractors for babies! . I had tried infacol, we were mix feeding, so I tried various different milks to help with her wind, but nothing was working, so a friend suggested a chiropractor. They are slightly different to the cranial osteopaths, but similar theory - the body goes through a hell of a lot in labour (especially a fast delivery), and if just one bit is out of alignment, then it can throw off the rest making food hard to digest, trapped wind etc.
It turned out that DD had a slight crick in her neck (she had feeding problems from one side too), and they just very gently rubbed it. It took a couple of sessions a week for about 3 weeks, but the change was noticeable from the very beginning. It was so gentle that she actually slept through half of the treatments (and she was the magical no sleep needed child... was awake the same amount she is now!).
She took her feeds happily after that, slept better, and all signs of "colic" were gone. I'd recommend it to anyone.
With the dummy... Again, my baby wasn't going to have a dummy My baby also wasn't going to cry for hours on end if she wasn't sucking mummy's finger/nipple. She ended up with the dummy after the chiro sessions finished. I just couldn't cope with her needing to suck on me any more, and she would not find her fingers to suck. It took my friend holding her for about an hour, with a dummy held in her mouth to get her to accept the thing, and life suddenly became sooo much easier. Yes, they don't look nice, but it isn't forever - if you watch her, she will probably want it most when she is tired, so limit it to sleepy times, and we found that we didn't have the whole "Oh I have to go in 10 times a night to put it back in" thing by taking it out as soon as she fell asleep - she got used to sleeping without it in then.
Hope things start to get easier.
